Emmy sat on her carpet, and rubbed and rubbed and rubbed her lamp til she thought her arm would drop off! Either that, or there wouldn't be any lamp left to rub...
Harrumph. Treyen seemed to be doing ok - was that the Grey Lady of Ravenclaw?! Whoa. Fingers crossed for the Fat Friar - or maybe even Nearly Headless Nick, you never know...

Woah... What was with all the ghosts?

Flying really was the coolest class of all.

The Slytherin selected a carpet as instructed by Vindy, unrolled it and sat on it. Skinny insect-like legs crossed like he was about to meditate... but meditation wasn't on Oliver's twitchy mind...

Screwing his face up into complete concentration with his tongue poking out the corner of his mouth, he rubbed at his lamp again. Hard. Like it had a particularly stubborn stain on it which he was trying to remove. “C'mon genie.” He said to himself. “C'mon genie genie genie!” Three wishes would be kinda awesome.

Rub rub rub rub rub...

No one could deny that the kid was determined.

Simon couldn't believe there was so many ghost arounds, well Simon wasn't scared of them.

Simon selected a carpet as instructed by the Professor, unrolled it and sat on it, he didn't really like the idea of a carpet being able to fly but he had heard a story about someone who had got one to fly Aladin or something like that.

Simon looked at the lamp, well surely there was no such thing as Genies, he was sure about that but well he would rub the lamp anyway he didn't want to get into trouble and if a genie did come out then three wishes would be great.

Simon smiled as he started gentley rub the lamp whilest thinking to himself that if a Genie did come that he would probably run for his life before he could ask for his wishes. "Come on Genie!" Simon smiled. "You know you want to come out and play." Simon rubbed kept rubbing his lamp.

The Grey Lady, Myrtle, and Bloody Baron. Why with all that ghosts?

Freya let out a small sighed and grabbed a carpet near by. She unrolled the carpet first before she sat on it. She was soooooooo excited flying with the magic carpet. She can't believe that they'd do something like this today..Yaaaaaayyyyy. She carefully sat on the magic carpet and crossed her legs and made herself comfy. She looked at her lamp curiously. Wonder what will come out from this lamp. She rubbed her lamp gently. "Come out Genie..!!Come out..Come out..!" she said in a sing a song tone.

AlwaysSnapesGirl 11-02-2010 02:20 PM

Whoaaaa, lookit all the ghosts! The Grey Lady, Moaning Myrtle, the Bloody Baron...would the ghosts of Hufflepuff and Gryffindor come out of someone's lamp too? Would one of them be in Vashti's? Or maybe she'd have an actual genie? Rub rub rub rub...

She paused in her rubbing of her lamp only long enough to grab a carpet, roll it out on the ground, and then sit on it as instructed. Nothing was happening yet, but that was okay. She could focus on trying to get a genie out of her lamp. Rub rub rub rub rub rub...

Gasp!

"You Trapped the puppy inside the lamp?!" That Monster! Jacob started rubbing the lamp like crazy. He wanted that puppy! And a taco. The Puppy better have a taco in there, or it could die! Unless its a magical Genie Puppy! Jacob wanted the magical Genie Puppy! Rub... Rub... RUB!!! "Don't Worry Magical Genie Puppy, I'll Get You Out!"

Unroll the carpet? But Jacob wanted his Genie Puppy! He was determined to get his Genie Puppy... and his taco! He started to unroll the carpet with his foot, and sat down while still rubbing his lamp.

He was going to name the puppy, Burnie!

Sitting on his carpet, and seeing everyone still rubbing his lamp, Treyen began to wonder if there was really a genie amongst all the lamps or if Vindictus had been joking all along.

The Bloody Baron! How...ooooh....spooky. Peeves would be a nice addition, and that way Fletcher could understand what he'd been talking all along. Or, well, over the summer, not all along, since he talks a lot about many things.

The Hufflepuff eyed his lamp, he was not rubbing that thing, though he sort of wanted to see inside it. He did fail to notice that while moving his leg he was rubbing the lamp with his robes. He was fully aware of the fact that he didn't want the flying to begin for the first time. He'd always end up feeling too dizzy after the carpets.

MeredithRodneyMckay 11-02-2010 04:12 PM

Sarah had rather carefully placed her hand in the bag to secure herself a lamp. If Vindictus had been right about the spiders, well, she would have been screaming herself silly and running for the hills. As it was all she got was cold metal, and a bright golden lamp in her hands. Thankfully.

But her face froze when all the ghosts started to appear. That wasn't fair, they couldn't grant wishes. At least she wasn't scared of them though, miraculously. Giving the Grey Lady a broad smile, Sarah wandered over to get a carpet, wondering if it was worth rubbing her own lamp, as no genie's seemed to be forthcoming. Rolling out the carpet, she sat down on it and stared at her lamp. Dare she?

Yes, she dared.

Rub, rub, rub. "Helllllooo, genie? Anyone?" Sarah closed one eye and peered into the pouring end of the lamp. She couldn't see anything, ghost, genie or otherwise. But the Fat Friar wasn't among them, so maybe he was in someone else's lamp. "I got nothing in mine, professor," she sighed, shaking it gently and tipping it on it's side. And if she did, they might not be happy that she just did that.

Erindipity 11-02-2010 05:57 PM

Lexi frowned as the Bloody Baron came out to visit. If that was what you could call it anyway. She peeeeeered into the end of her lamp and sighed heavily. "Come oooooon!" she whined before dropping it away from her eye and rubbing it some more.

HaRoHeGiNeLu 11-02-2010 06:16 PM

Right. So. Ghosts were coming out of peoples' lamps? Was she seeing that right? Ellie took to rubbing her own lamp. And to avoid a grumpy ghost, she rubbed slowly and gently. Like they had advised. Not that she thought the ghosts could physically harm her much....just..she'd rather stay on their good side.

Rub rub.

HogwartsHokage 11-02-2010 06:26 PM

Okay, Jenny should try rubbing her lamp slowly this time...so she gently rubbed it as much as possible. If it takes patience for someone to come out, then she will be patient! Rub rub rub....

Really? Ellie was into this too?

The boy leaned a bit forward and spoke almost in a whisper, "You don't believe it, do you?" he said, gesturing towards her lamp and just frowning a bit. It's not that Treyen didn't believe it, it was just...well, muggle stories. He's never seen a genie, soooo, no way such a thing existed, it was probably some wizard that pretended to be something like a genie and that's when the stories started.

Yes, that was probably it.

His robes rubbed his lamp when he scooted closer to the girl just seconds ago.

Rubbing distracted by Treyen, Ellie looked over at the boy. Believe what? In genies? "I don't have any reason not to... Don't you believe?" He was rubbing his lamp too, after all.

She'd only heard stories that genies came out of lamps. And...well.. ghosts were coming out of her peers' lamps. So, she'll take that. And she continued to rub while waiting on Treyen's answer.

There! Right there! Her answer! That's why Treyen isn't allowed to ask her anything, she always had an answer he couldn't contradict. Not that he wanted to, but she sounded right most of the times. Or all the times he'd spoken to Ellie, anyway. Except, perhaps, in Divination.

He had to remember not to do so again. His eyes felt on his forgotten lamp next to him, and shook his head, "It's just a story" and yes, he understood that stories must have some true to them, but...they weren't getting genies, were they? They were getting ghosts.

Ellie shrugged. "I don't really know 'the' story anyway. I just know that a genie is supposed to come out." And as for all the ghosts... "Maybe all these genies were set free. The ghosts are just coming out to humor us."

She looked down and continued to rub her lamp. Still. Something would happen. "Why were you rubbing yours, then? Just before." She asked, keeping her eyes on her lamp.

demented_death_eater 11-03-2010 12:27 AM

CLAP, CLAP!

"Time to put the lamps down and move on with the lesson. Did everyone get a carpet?" Vindictus inquired. He was already seated cross-legged on a rug.

"Sit two feet from the front edge of the carpet and make sure you're sitting cross-legged. Grab the front edge of the carpet with both hands and curl it up towards you."

Erindipity 11-03-2010 12:31 AM

Vindi's clapping made her start and she dropped the lamp on her leg. That had smarted a tad... Why was Vindi always so darned loud? Meh. Maybe it came with his old age and all, perhaps his hearing was going and it caused him to be louder.

Watching and listening Lexi scooted back on her carpet and grabbed the front of it as directed. With no effort she crossed her legs over one another and then rolled the edge of the carpet up toward her. YAY! She loved to fly... this was going to be EPIC!

sweetpinkpixie 11-03-2010 12:36 AM

Kurumi attempted to put her lamp down, but now her finger was stuck in it. "Um..." she looked around nervously as she tried to wave it off her finger, but to no avail. Maybe she needed some magic butter?

Doing as the professor instructed, Kurumi scooted crossed-legged towards the front and pulled the carpet towards her with the lamp still stuck to her finger and hanging from it like an overgrown Christmas ornament.

hermygirl 11-03-2010 12:45 AM

Sat on her rather dated-patterned carpet, Nia was absentmindedly fiddling with her lamp. More tickling it than rubbing it. In her mind she was thinking of Quidditch. And how she so wanted to be on the pitch shooting quaffles right now.

The claps brought her back from those thoughts.

She shuffled back on the carpet, placing the lamp to one side. he leant forward to pick up the corners of the carpet, and curled it over. Her legs were crossed neatly, with her elbows resting on the inside of her thighs by her knees. She bounced up and down, impatiently. If she couldn't have a match, could she get up the air yettttt?

Well, he couldn't argue with that, he'd heard the story though, perhaps he'd tell it to Ellie after class.

Humor them? The Bloody Baron? Er, no. Myrtle, yes, Ravenclaw lady, probably, but the Baron? Highly doubtful. Peeves, however, would've been an amazing sight. That poltergeist.

The boy frowned, "I...wasn't" he said, well, not on purpose.

"Sit two feet from the front edge of the carpet and make sure you're sitting cross-legged. Grab the front edge of the carpet with both hands and curl it up towards you."

The clapping brought him back to class, and the flying carpet he was already sitting on.

Awesome. Flying on a carpet, and then dizziness.

Treyen straightened himself on his carpet and sat cross-legged while the grabbed the front of the carpet. Yup, he was doing what was instructed, as usual.

demented_death_eater 11-03-2010 01:28 AM

"In a firm voice, you need command the carpet to rise," explained Vindictus. "Up!"

The carpet gave a small twitch and slowly rose two feet above the ground.

Walrus 11-03-2010 01:46 AM

Jacob was sitting onthe carpet after deciding his lamp was not going to give him a puppy, and looked at Vindictus, was he sitting the wrong way, Was there a wrong way to sit on these things, was there such this as a magical genie puppy, why didn't the genie come out of his lamp, was he on coffee break, did he not like Jacob?

All these questions and more will be answered after this comercial break.
Dang it, Jacob hated when these things went into comercial interuptions right at the good parts. Evil advertising companies.

Jacob took the edge tightly and like his first broom lesson, said "UP!"

Jacob lifted a foot off the ground... Oh my gosh, he did it. But the next second the carpet fliped over, and Jacob went wide eyed before he fell on his head. "Oooow!" he whined, as the carpet fell on top of him. Jacob had to admit though, it might have been funny to watch. Like one of those cartoons where they dont actually fall until they realize that they're not on solid ground. It did feel like he was still sitting on the carpet before he actually fell.

Did some one tape that? Jacob wanted to see it in slow-motion!

Erindipity 11-03-2010 01:49 AM

Lexi smiled as she thought about the first time she had ever flow a broom. This was of course the same command used for a broom so she was sure she had this in the bag. She had been flying for YEARS. Gripping the carpet tighter she cleared her throat, concentrated REALLY hard, and said, "UP!" To her astonishment the carpet rose a little ways off of the ground. She couldn't help but panic a bit and it dropped her back on her bum on the ground below. Stupid carpet... surely it was broken.

Oi, no. This is the part he didn't like. Broomsticks, yes, but carpets, no. They tended to fly awkwardly. The boy breathed in and out, ready for what this carpet had in store for him. He couldn't complain, right? At least they were going to fly. :D

"UP!" he said, eyes closed, haha, and he knew it had worked out without having the need to open his eyes (though, he did so, eventually).

In all fairness, he was liking this...being off the ground thing.

Starbreeze 11-03-2010 01:53 AM

"Up!" Eino said firmly as the Professor had instructed. The thin surface of the carpet seemed to solidify to hold the weight as it rose above the ground, but it still felt as though it rested on the ground. This was way cooler than flying a broom, and definitely a lot more comfortable. Why couldn't they have magic carpet sports? Quidditch on a magic carpet sounded a lot more pleasing. It was a shame this would be a very rare occasion, and the opportunity to fly a carpet again would probably not be a for a long time, so Eino wanted to enjoy this one as much as possible.
