Located directly next to the castle is a vast expanse of green grass. This is where all Flying Lessons take place unless Professor Vindictus changes the venue.
A portable bin covered with a purple tarp is next to the professor. Don't even dare to peek under the tarp - what's underneath will be revealed during the lesson. (Be thankful it isn't moving!)
If you're here for the lesson, please have a seat on the grass and wait for the professor to begin.
Do not announce that you're late or else points will be taken away.
If you're not here for the lesson and show up with broom from the Broomshed because you want to go for a joy ride on the grounds, then expect to face the wrath of Vindictus.
The speed and weight of the ball, and the heavy protective wear, didn't go together. But he did manage to almost back away a little when the Quaffle got to his hand and the fingers wrapped around it. It was not easy, really.
He was closer to the hoops, and the other girl went over to the first year, so, he'd venture and throw it at the baskets. Maybe the Keeper will allow it in?
He did it, it took all the strength he had, but the Quaffle was flying towards the basket.
Ooooh, and there was the quaffle!
Leaning forward on her broom, Ivory tried to decrease her wind resistance by flattening herself as much as possible. The action sent her zooming forward just as the quaffle was a few feet from the baskets.
Letting go of her broom with one hand, fingers curled to curve around the ball, she reached out hoping she was timing the incoming quaffle and her speeding velocity to hopefully result in success.
And boy did she. The momentum of the ball straight into her palm was strong enough to not only slam her metacarpals but to send her careening into a spin, holding on to her broom for dear balance with her left hand and clutching her fingers into the Quaffle in a death grip with her right.

After more than three 360 spins, she finally was able to fly steady. Willing her sight to stop spinning, she took aim and wound up her arm, ready to pass the quaffle to him, deciding in that split moment that she was on his team and whoever his Ravenclaw friend was.
"Heads up!" Launching the ball forward, she watched it soar in a arch hopefully straight into his hands. (Salander)
i finally caved; i'm bolding my dialogue from now on xD

She was only a first year after all - not to mention grew up knowing nothing of the wizarding world. Ask her about kendo or baking and she could talk for hours...Quidditch was another story. It was hard enough for her to say it correctly let alone play it.
Never played Quidditch before? Aww, poor girl! Vashti knew how she felt though; she hadn't ever heard of or played Quidditch before her first year at Hogwarts. But once she'd figured out how to play and tried it out, she'd loved it ever since. Maybe this girl would be the same way?
Of course, they weren't playing modern day Quidditch right now, but this was still played basically the same way, so it shouldn't be too hard to teach, right?
"Don't worry, it's not too hard to learn," Vashti began, still smiling. "Well, except for these balls we have to use. But we don't use them in Quidditch nowadays, so it's actually a lot easier than this looks." Yeah, suddenly she was very grateful they used Bludgers rather than rocks in Quidditch today. "Would you like to be a Chaser? That's where you have to catch and throw the Quaffle ball..." She looked around for it but again couldn't find it. Merlin, where did that thing go? One second the Hufflepuff boy had it, the next it was gone again. Oi. "Or you can be a Beater, where you just have to hit the rocks around towards the players on the opposite team. If there are teams, of course," she finished with a nod.
Wait, she'd totally just forgotten about Keeper! "Oh yeah, there's also Keeper, where you have to guard the goals, but I think those positions are taken," she explained. And it was way better to have ten million Beaters or Chasers than ten million Keepers. You'd never be able to score that way! "So which do you think you'd like? Chaser or Beater?"

Sophia grabbed a beaters bat, and she flew up in the air. She smacked a bludger in the direction of the opposite keeper. She flew over to Feenella. "Hey Fee. What positions are you playing?" she asked.
Fee heared someone calling her name and looked down from the baskets to the grounds.
"Hii Sophia darling", she smiled,"i am playing Keeper. We could need a chaser? Want to join me and Hugo?"
...Really? They were going to team up and 'have' an old-fashioned Quidditch? Merlin save me. Evan looked around. The only person he knew was Carter, and he announced to be on Oliver's team, a person the Slytherin didn't even know. He looked around -mostly above, since he was like only three metres up- and tried to decide whose team to be in; someone who wouldn't mind if he hovered between five metres and ground or didn't play actively. Someone who could do two people's work, actually, 'cause he obviously couldn't play.
People were pretty enthusiastic about this, though. Wonder if he could sneak to his safe!common room...
Ever looked around carefully, trying to find a team to join. "If anyone needs another player..." She called to no one imparticular. She hadn't played Quidditch in so long...she began to feel afraid that her skills would be rusty. Practice makes perfect, after all.

Kurumi was very grateful that the Ravenclaw girl was taking the time to explain things to her. Which one of the two was she potentially better at? She was good with a kendo sword and could hit even the smallest of target with it...perhaps she should give being a Beater a try?
"M-m-m-maybe being a Beater is best for me?" she asked rather than said. She was nervous and had just recently become comfortable enough on her broom to not swing around in circles on it every time she moved.
"Oh, I'm Kurumi by the way," she smiled nervously extending her hand and bowing her head.

Vashti nodded. "Then you'll need a Beater's bat," she said, just before urging her broom down to the ground where the box of all the equipment was. She landed for a moment and grabbed a bat, then hopped back on, kicked off, and flew back up to the first year. "Here you go," she said, grinning and offering the bat to her.
"Nice to meet you, Kurumi," she replied, shaking the girl's hand with her free one. "I'm Vashti."

Quidditch was the best sport ever. It didn't matter that it was the ancient version. Melanie was extremely excited to be on a broom again after going months without playing Quidditch and a little nervous, too, since she hadn't practiced in a while. The girl hovered near the middle of the field, clad in the proper protective gear. She watched from afar, at first, not too sure what to do... or who her teammates were.
Then Melanie flew closer to the action, green eyes trained on the Quaffle. She knew it would be harder to handle without the charm on it, but she wondered how much harder it would be. She was playing Chaser.
...She didn't know which team she was playing Chaser for, though. It appeared as if two had formed, but she didn't know which one she belonged to. Hmm.
Vindictus had been watching the lesson solemnly but now he wanted to have a bit of fun.
And watch the students scream.
Yes, he enchanted the large rocks (maybe you could call them mini-boulders) to zoom around and now he pulled out his wand to give them some more oomph.
With precision, he sent a rock towards a group of students standing on the grass talking about what to do.
OOC: No one really needs teams since score isn't being kept. Grab a quaffle and try to score on whoever is blocking the baskets. If you're a beater, then grab a bat. The object of this lesson is for your character to experience 'ancient' Quidditch in an informal setting without me dictating how you should RP (Vindictus is supposed to be an observer of this lesson).
This lesson will close in 24 hours from this post (extending the lesson for everyone because it was supposed to close in 30 minutes).

Evil grin. He noticed another Quaffle. Bwahahaha, he'll get that one!
Almost almost brushing Melanie's broom, Treyen flew towards that Quaffle and took it in his hand, he didn't find holding the ball as much difficult as throwing it, that was the hard part. The throw.
And the heavy gear, because he was a small fellow.
The broom's speed was not helping, but he didn't care, he loved this, Quidditch. It was refreshing to be doing this.
And without further ado, the boy dodged one of the Blooders, and...lost the Quaffle. Fail. He knew he was no Catcher (Chaser). He shouldn't keep on trying that. But he won't give up.

As she looked around so she could figure out where everything was and if the Quaffle was anywhere near...

...there was the Quaffle! ...Falling out of that Hufflepuff boy's hands (whose name she really ought to find out). Was the Quaffle really that hard to hold? Oh dear... And was it just Vashti, or were those rock things now seemingly flying around of their own accord?
"Be right back," she told Kurumi as she flew off after the falling Quaffle, hoping to catch it before it hit the ground. Almost there...
Got it!
Wait, no she didn't.
Merlin's beard, how do you hold this thing?!
Vashti had the Quaffle only a few seconds as she tried to get a good grip on it but instead fumbled it and caused it to fall from her hands.
Lovely.

Kurumi looked at her bat and was about to ask another question when Vashti went flying off in one direction. Kurumi decided to give this whole thing a shot and flew off in the direction of all the enchanted rocks.
Soon, several of them came flying in her general direction and she took out her bat, swung it and...
TWACK!
Oh oh oh oh! She had made contact with not one but TWO rocks that now went shooting off in the direction of...oh boy...a group of students that didn't seem to be paying attention. Kurumi closed her eyes hoping that not too much damage was done...

It would mess up his pretty. He turned his head slightly and followed when the quaffle was spotted. Not too close but definitely keeping his eyes peeled. He flexed his arm. It felt kinda good to be hefting a bat.

Woah. Big. Holy.... Jimmy wasn't gonna get the brunt of the sudden onslaught of KILLER BOULDERS but one or two did swerve off in the direction of himself and those who happened to be playing with him. He hefted his bat and gripped his broom and SWUNG. The bat connected with one of the almost-boulders and an almighty crack resounded. The juddering up his arm wasn't entirely fun but it was also kinda.... kinda awesome. RAWR. ADRENALINE.
The next one clipped his broom and hurtled past, heading for the chaser/catchers he was supposed to be defending. Eh. Well. At least he got one.
"Watch it!" Maybe someone else would get it? Jimmy was too busy trying to right himself, broom trying to spin after that hit, and arm still aching a little from contact with that first one.

Lovely.
Aha! It wasn't easy, was it?
Either way, the Quaffle was dropped again and he zoomed, zoomed, zoomed, and got it before it hit the ground. He had no idea how his father and Melanie could play Chaser, it was exhausting. All the zooming.
Awesome, but exhausting.
And he got the Quaffle. The zooming had brought it closer to the other baskets, so he ventured and aimed at the left one...Quaffle gone...direction: the basket.

'Watch it!'. That was all Treyen needed to hear in order to fly away from wherever he was and eyes wide open to know what was he supposed to watch for.
Hugo flew around, not spotting any quaffle. And there it was, falling out of a third year ravie's hand. He zoomed towards it and caught it. Quickly flying to the baskets, he felt the rush of flying. It was so awesome. He loosened his hands from his broom and got ready to throw the quaffle...
A fast rock zoomed up to him, barely not hitting him. Hugo turned upside down, and struggled to get back up. He held the quaffle by his side and threw it to one of the baskets.
The quaffle was going fast towards the basket, Hugo smiled. That was a nice throw!
Melanie shot after the other Lockhart as he zoomed past her, lying flat on her broom. She went into a dive, flying after the Ravenclaw girl and Treyen with intentions to snatch the quaffle out of the air as the girl (Vashti) dropped it. She pulled out of the dive just as soon as she went into it though, carefully dodging one of the blooders as it passed by.
Her eyes widened as she realized some of the rocks serving as blooders were looking a lot bigger. Suddenly she was very grateful for the helmet and bulky padding provided by the Professor.
Melanie flew higher and higher up. Then, when the quaffle started flying toward one of the baskets...
...Well, she reached out and grabbed it by it's strap, intercepting the ball before it could enter the scoring area.
Then Melanie zoomed in the opposite direction, toward the hoops on the other side of the field at top speed. Unfortunately, just as she got about midway, Melanie had to dodge another of those bloody blooders. As she swerved to avoid the mini boulder the quaffle went flying toward the ground once more.
Lulu was afraid to fly she came to class late because she had to talk to Gaellen Tate. "sorry im late." she said callying her broom in with her. she looked at the teacher. :"i was talking to the head master."
"Yep." Was all James offered, especially with the rocks flying everywhere. Eye on the quaffle, Ivory watched it soar, hoping the Slytherin boy had heard her heads up. But if it made it or not, she didn't find out because there was the small issue of speeding rocks just itching to bludgeon her to hopelessness.
Like the one coming quickly on her right, for example. Jerking the handle up on her broom, caused her flight to become diagonal for all of two split seconds. Enough time to escape a rock to the hip it seemed.
Coasting forward, she caught the tail end of the Ravenclaw guy's suggestion. Score against the headboy?...Eh, why not? Mentally shrugging her shoulders, she quickly u-turned to give him a grin, a nod, and a salute. Just to let him know she was all for that plan.
Whoever he was, he seemed to give a aura of casual confidence and that was enough for her to deem him captain of the moment. Just not verbally, the salute was enough. Words usually inflated egos.
An ego that seemed to be there for good reason, if the way he swung at a ferocious incoming killer rock was any indication. If it hadn't been for a second rock beelining towards her like a little boy to cake, she might've even given an appreciative nod. But no, she was busy acting like a deer caught in headlights at the rock speeding her way.
Snapping out of her moment of indecision, she jerked to her right. Or so she thought.... that darn indecision had her hips angling one way and her upper body another so instead of smoothly swerving to avoid the rock, she ended up grasping at the handle of her broom as the opposing movements send her in a haphazard roll that ended with her upside down and crossing her ankles around the broom for dear life. An action that could've even looked cool had that been her intention.
Which it wasn't-which was probably why she taking quick little breaths and digging her gloved fingers into the wood as a life line. The blood rushing to her face more from being upside down then embarrassment, it took a few tries of strenuous scary swinging of her body to right herself again. When she was finally back to sitting down, she couldn't help the smile of exhilaration that was creeping up on her face. Even if she'd almost fallen off, that had still been cool.

"Right... against Mr Headboy" Salander nodded at Jimmy. Thing is the Slytherin lad didnt know who he was, although had a funny feeling he has read the title hanging around somewhere. But he couldnt be bothered about that now, because someone just got his attention...
SPOILER!!: Ivory next

Letting go of her broom with one hand, fingers curled to curve around the ball, she reached out hoping she was timing the incoming quaffle and her speeding velocity to hopefully result in success.
And boy did she. The momentum of the ball straight into her palm was strong enough to not only slam her metacarpals but to send her careening into a spin, holding on to her broom for dear balance with her left hand and clutching her fingers into the Quaffle in a death grip with her right.
After more than three 360 spins, she finally was able to fly steady. Eyes churning at the spinning background that was her sight for the moment, she eyed the double vision of a fellow chaser speeding this way, and concentrated on the image.
(Salander)
.... Dangerously letting go of his broom, the lad stretched out both his arms for the incoming Quaffle Just catch it, this should be the easy part he thought. Of course he didnt expect this....
SPOILER!!: mwahaha Hugo

A fast rock zoomed up to him, barely not hitting him. Hugo turned upside down, and struggled to get back up. He held the quaffle by his side and threw it to one of the baskets.
The quaffle was going fast towards the basket, Hugo smiled. That was a nice throw!
... An intercept! "Wha?!? Oh heeeccck naaawww!" Salander clasped his broom and zoomed after the 'Claw like a madman, narrowly missing other players and giant bludders. He ducked beneath the Claw and angled his broom at the basket. Come on, you gotta let it go sometime he pondered, watching the quaffle like a hawk. And as the Claw went for the shot, the Slyth zoomed in....
....and grabbed the quaffle inches from the basket goalie.
"YEAAAHHH!!!" the lad exclaimed as he zoomed towards the opposite end of the pitch. Salander gripped the Quaffle handstraps hoping to just slam dunk it into the basket. If only he would slow down.
Like thats gonna happen.
Careening towards the Headboy, the Slytherin lad didnt realize this until it was too late The Headboy's a Slyth?"Hey Curly gitouttadawaayyy!!!" he bellowed as he swung the Quaffle for the basket-- and headed straight for the HeadBoy. Impact Imminent.

Yeah. He could roll with a salute. Jimmy rolled his shoulder a bit experimentally, still feeling the hot sensation in his muscles from that last hit. Felt good. Feelin' the buuuuurn. Oh yeah. He grinned back. "Sorry 'bout that." Yep. Only had one bat unfortunately, and couldn't quite manage two of the blooders with it, not one right after the other.
Ohh hehe. Tricks?
"Go you good thing!" He hollered. Hah! He watched Salander go for the goal and kept his eyes peeled for more boulder rocks.
James grinned and then -THWACK!- as soon as he'd recovered his own balance gave her the thumbs up and was soon off again.

Rubiey had been hovering over everyone, but now she was bored. She zoomed around for a little while, then looked around, eyes zeroing on the quaffle. "Hey, over here!" She shouted, arms waving in the air. "Pass the Quaffle!" She shouted.

TWACK!
Oh oh oh oh! She had made contact with not one but TWO rocks that now went shooting off in the direction of...oh boy...a group of students that didn't seem to be paying attention. Kurumi closed her eyes hoping that not too much damage was done...
Still frowning from the fact that she'd totally failed at catching that stupid Quaffle, Vashti looked up just in time to see Kurumi give a couple of those giant rocks a good thwacking. "Nice one, Kurumi!" she called out, giving the girl a thumbs up and making a mental note not to get on the first year's bad side when there were flying rocks about. Hehe.
Now to find that Quaffle once more and hopefully not drop it again.

Better it than her.
And there it was!
Vashti flew after the older Hufflepuff girl, trying to catch up though the girl certainly had a head start on her. Trying to avoid those giant rock blooder things certainly slowed the Ravenclaw down though, and as she dove down to dodge a particularly nasty one coming straight for her face, she caught a glimpse of the Quaffle leaving the Hufflepuff's hands and falling down to the ground. Vashti continued her dive, pulling up just as she reached the same point in the air as the Quaffle.
She caught it with both hands this time, gripping the broom with her legs to stay on until she was certain she held the ball tightly enough to prevent it from falling again. She then relaxed her legs and grabbed the broom handle with her free hand, directing it back towards the opposite goal basket.
Now all she had to worry about was throwing, which certainly hadn't looked at all easy to do when a few others had done it. But she wouldn't know until she tried, would she?

HEAR ME PLEASE!
Before she was at all near to the goal basket, Vashti heard someone shouting for the Quaffle. She glanced their way and saw it was a girl Trixie had introduced her to at Platform 9 3/4...but whose name she couldn't remember. Curse her memory.
"Here you go!" she called to her before raising her arm and throoowing the Quaffle with all her might towards the girl. Would it reach her? Vashti sure hoped so.

Glad to be upright, Ivory's grin widened at the apology. None were needed of course. If a rock hadn't come speeding her way she'd never in her right mind would've attempted rolling to escape one. Experiences were experiences after all. "It's all good." She called back, even as she heard him call out too. Good thing? Ha. She dipped her flight a bit so that she could swerve closer to an incoming flyer with a quaffle, looking back just in time to see him give her a thumbs up. Approval from the team captain. Acknowledged.
Taking that as a cue to gear back into the game, Ivy weaved between rocks only wincing once when a particularly fierce one hit her shin. Stupid rock. It could've gone for the padded knee, maybe even her helmeted head...but nooooo it had to chose to smack into her shin, the unprotected part of her body. Rubbing it, as her eyes searched around her gaze zeroed in on a girl.

And more importantly on the quaffle free falling to the grass. Putting her annoying shin pain behind her, she leaned forward in a dive, ignoring the awful way the ground was rushing up at her.
Just...a...little....closer......Her hand stretched out as far as it would go, her pinky hooking empty air until....
SUCCESS! Finger precariously wrapping around the strap she tossed it up as she came out of the dive and caught it in the crook of her left arm, before veering higher from the ground.
But wait-someone else got to it first. Aw shucks. Grinning she veered away in search of another quaffle. Watching Vashti's progress, was she close enough to try to score??

The solution presented itself quickly it seemd, as she watched Vashti spotted a Gryffindor girl exactly the right distance away. "Take it all the way!" she encouraged to the firstee. First goal of the game possibly?
Maybe she'd hear her, maybe she'd catch it, maybe she'd score! A lot of maybe's to worry about as it was but not enough time to find out. Dipping low she barely ducked down with enough time, the sound of whooshing rocks filling her eardrums as they whizzed past.

Reason: Lolz Vashti got to it first

Oh! Someone had heard her plea! The girl Trixie had introduced her to waaaaaaay back on the platform threw her the ball. YAY!
The throw was a little short, but Rubiey's superduper fast reflexes made her zooooooom forward on her broom without even thinking about it, and she grabbed the Quaffle with two outstretched arms.
Merrrrrrlin, it was heavy. Rubiey's little arms weren't equipt to hold this kind of thing. She looked up at the girl who had passed it to her. What was her name again? Something beginning with a V, maybe? Gah. "Thank you!" She cried, spinning around and heading to the baskets where the Head Boy bobbed.
