| | Flying Lesson #1
Located directly next to the castle is a vast expanse of green grass. This is where all Flying Lessons take place unless Professor Vindictus changes the venue.
A broom rack sits on a flat patch of ground and next to it is the professor. If you're here for the lesson, please have a seat on the grass and wait for the professor to begin.
Do not announce that you're late or else points will be taken away.
If you're not here for the lesson and take a broom for a joy ride on the grounds, then expect to face the wrath of Vindictus. |

| C.R.E.A.M | Haitian Sensation | Shark Patronus | Your Huckleberry | T's ClayBaby Myrtle??? Haughtines eyebrows raised on her face giving her a surprised sort of look. She incorrectly concluded that she must have been some sort of assistant to the flying professor, but paused her thought when Salander asked about her still being present at the school which made her sound like some type of urban legend to Haughtine.
She frowned, but her frowns quickly became stifled giggle fits as she witnessed Salander and his champion buddy, Fletcher falling upside their brooms. She pressed her long sleeve to the lower half of her face and sucked in large quantities of air in an attempt to silence her laugh.
Well, no time to lose in getting better at flying. She was beginning to think that with the extra weight of the wet mop, it might make for a better attempt at flying than a broom for her. Yes. It would be slower and sturdier and she could use that to her advantage.
Haughtine slung one skinny leg over the side of the mop handle and kicked off. It went veeeeery slowly as predicted. Haughtine's natural reaction was to grip it tighter, but instead of pushing her body into the mop handle, she pulled the mop handle into her body, which caused her to go upright and vertical. In no time she found herself in a slow spin with the top of her mop drawing a large circle in the air. |

Emmy swung her leg over the dripping mop, and tried to kick off the way she normally would. Nothing happened. "Obviously, to overcome the greater inertia caused by the wet rags, I shall have to increase my momentum." In other words, I'll have to kick off a heck of a lot harder!
She bent her knees, and kicked off again, rising about two feet above the ground.

He had to let go of the handle of his hovering mop to clutch at his stomach, still laughing loudly at the Slytherin. Darn giggles. They sure were good for the abs, huh. Fletch continued laughing to himself until he literally slipped sideways off the mop and landed with a soft thud on his bottom.
The mop continued floating in midair for a moment before it seemed to realized he was no longer seated and then it abruptly fell right on top of his head, so it looked like he had a tangle of white spaghetti for hair.
The boy stopped laughing just like that (and closed his mouth too) as a trickle of filthy mop-water seeped down the side of his pouting face. Now who was laughing? Stupid mop.
Yeah he is so blaming the mop. It wasnt like it was his rear end that was causing the drag. Or that it had a handle harder than his head.
He nursed the sore spot with one hand as he grabbed the mop irritably with the other. As he glared at the mop, he could hear... Giggling? he thought as he turned to look at where it was coming from.
And there was the Hufflepuff Champion, having such a good fit of the giggles at his expense. "Bah! Lets see you try something better Fletcher!" he growled back, although he hated to admit that Fletcher has already done something better-- he got off the ground, even if it was just 3 feet high.
Salander started to mount his mop once again, trying to ignore the GlitterPuff who now was in such a fit of laughter he fell on the ground. He turned his head to yell back something snarky when just at the perfect moment, Fletcher's mop landed on his head, soggy strings and all.
Who was laughing now? He was!
Mwahahahaha!!! "Lookin' good Fletcher!" Salander guffawed back and gave a double thumbs up. Then pretending to see people coming up behind the Hufflepuff he mock pointed "Oh look, photographers from the Daily Prophet. Say Cheese Fletch!" he beamed as he mounted his mop quickly and pushed off, half flying, half dragging the mop across the greens.

Having failed to get more than a couple of feet off the ground, Emmy nosed the mop down, and promptly fell face first into the mud.
Gasping, she wiped it off as best she could, then reached for her wand. "Tergeo!" she said, siphoning off the mud.
Once she was thoroughly mud-free, she mounted the mop, and kicked off viciously. Miraculously, she rose ten feet, then sort of trundled forwards - if a mop can trundle, that is...
"Hmm. Well, it's not something you'd race on..." she said, looking disapprovingly down at her steed. Big mistake. She felt the mop start to dive down again, and just managed to shuffle backwards in time to level it out.

Amber couldn't believe the Professor was being serious. He had to be joking! Amber stayed on the grass while everyone else grabbed the broomstick, but after a while got up and joined everyone else. As she took the handle she cringed. The handle seemed to be covered in the same Myrtle stuff that was on the mop. But she mounted it anyway, kicking off into the air. Slowly but surely it rose a couple inches, then zoomed backwards and smashed into one of the invisible barriers. She rubbed her backside and glared at the barrier... wherever it was. She saw Salander fall off his mop and giggled softly, blowing the hair out of her face. Then Fletcher fell off his and the mop fell on his head. She started giggling louder, holding her stomach with one hand and the handle with the other. The mop tipped violently to he side, but Amber kept giggling.

| Ty post #1 PHILOMATH ❅ not one atom, but two ♪ ♪ made of starstuff ❅ def main(): Ty had been so bummed about no more flying that he had pouted for the whole duration of the theory part of the lesson, only perking up one to give Professor V a weird look as the class discussed flying bathtubs. Although, now, it seemed like the bathtub idea was a normal one compared to this.
MOPS?! Really?!!!!?! Taking one carefully from the rack, Ty mounted it and kicked off, alarmed by just how heavy and sluggish it was compared to a broom. Gripping the wood tightly, he slowly slowly inched higher until he could say he was at a respectable distance from the ground - not too low but yet not too high either, because this was a MOP. It was WEIRD.
Ty leaned towards his left and tried to slowly pick up speed, being ever so careful to avoid people. He just wanted to make it to the edge of the pitch, where not many people were flying. That way he could experiment with this bizarre new form of flying.
Meh. He preferred brooms.

Rowan mounted her wet mop, chuckling a little. This professor was VERY creative. She loved it! She tried to push off the ground but discovered that the wet mop was heavier than the broom and she didn't gain an inch. She tried again, this time pushing off a little harder, and succeeded in leaving the ground. She sat on the mop for a moment trying to get a feel for the way it handled. Getting the hang of it she set off, making small circles around the field and making sure that she stayed close to the grass.

Flying... on a mop. Not just any mop though it had to be one dripping wet.
Getting up and grabbing one of the wet mops in her left had she hesitantly mounted it when Professor V instructed them to. Now for the kick off.
Right
Kicking off wasn't as easy as it was on a broom. She felt like she was going at Destiny speed here... SLOOOOOW. Leaning forward she urges the mop to go faster. "Come on mop, you can do it, you can go faster than snail." she said hoping the mop could hear what she was saying.
Seeing all the other students flying around it suddenly hit her that she could get splashed with water, or whatever it was that the mops were wet with. Not wanting that to happen she pointed her mop up and went high enough to be above everyone.
Phew, no wet hair yet.
Now to see how fast she could get this thing to really go.

Ever mounted her soggy mop disgustedly, but didn't gain an inch. What was the professor on about, flying on a mop? She pushed off, but raised no more than a centimeter off the ground, and crumpled immediately in a heap.
She pulled herself off the groud and began pouting. "Myyyyy haaaaaair!" Bits of grass were caught in her wavy blonde locks.

Light glistened on their bottoms as they came to a halt and hovered in mid-air.
DRIP.
DRIP.
Beneath each mop, droplets fell to the grass. These weren't just rag mops, they were WET RAG MOPS. "Everyone - grab a mop and get in line! Make sure you're holding the mop in your left hand!" Vindictus ordered and he clapped his hands gleefully. Alice watched as Professor Vindictus flicked his wand. Once he was done Alice turned and looked at the broom rack and saw that the brooms they had just been riding had been replaced with mops. Wet mops. Alice's eyebrows went up. That was odd. Alice went over and grabbed one of the mops with her left hand and stepped aside so she wasn't in other people's ways of getting their mops. Wet mops that is. Quote:

However, they're not going to fly like an ordinary broomstick." "The weight of the water is going to cause a drag when you're airborne. If the rags weren't wet, all of you would be ricocheting off the invisible boundaries and be unable to control the mop." He stopped and allowed this fact to sink in. "This is why I said they won't fly like ordinary broomsticks. But like a broomstick, everything else is almost the same . . . except when you try to dive . . . the weighted end will flip you off the mop and onto the grass . . . so avoid diving, if you can."
Goofy grin. "Since you get to fly again, please try to practice your control of the mop and be careful not to smack someone in the face with the wet rags . . . the impact could cause you to become unseated and dangling precariously from the mop handle . . . and that would cause the mop to become inverted and you'd plummet to the grass. So, um, try not to hurt yourselves, okay? Now have some fun flying your mops!" OOC: Points are given for participation (at least 5 creative role playing posts). Please don't intentionally injure your character -try to have fun in an injury-free sort of way. Around 11pm EST tomorrow, I'll post again. Making sure that no one was around her Alice mounted the mop, not looking forward to being back in the air again. She looked and saw that the back of the mop was really sagging. This was going to be difficult. "Alright listen mop," Alice whispered to it gently. "We are just going to go for a casual stroll...err...fly around the area, so no funny business, okay?"
After a couple of moments Alice kicked off and was in the air. She was gripping the mop fairly tight and was trying to make sure that none of the water dripping from the end of her mop was hitting anyone in the face.
Nice and slow. Alice encouraged the mop to go forward, but found it kept wanting to go the left. She gently tugged it and was pleased to find it was going straight. No, she was not going to be dangling feet above the air clinging to the mop handle this time around.

JD relieved that he wouldn't have to clean anything, mounts the mop after listening to the professors instructions and warnings. How hard can this be? he wonders to himself. If it was almost identical to a normal broomstick, with a little drag, it wouldn't be that bad, he didn't think. He'd dealt with the school broomstick for 3 years, hadn't he?
Kicking off from the ground, as hard as he normally did, he ends up only like 3 feet off the ground. Looking down he leans forward desperate to get higher, pulling the mop upward just a tad. Little by little climbing to about 5 feet. "Come on!" he urges the mop desperately.
Trying to get it to move faster, he pulls harder on the handle, but as he does so the mop turns flipping him over upside down, swinging side to side. "No!!!" he cries, trying to pull himself back up on the mop, it not being easy considering the handle was a bit wet.

Carr was considering her mop quite skeptically. She'd been finally getting along with her Cleansweep, which had kindly allowed her to hover only a couple feet of the ground in order to get used to flying. She doubted this mop would do the same unless she specifically directed it to, which wasn't something she was adept in. Still, she mounted the mop and kicked off from the ground, noticing that the mop--unlike the broom--had at least waited for her to kick off before it rose into the air. The mop rose three feet into the air, very slowly as though the water made it difficult for the mop to move very quickly.
The first thing Carr noticed was that the mop seemed to be quite off-balanced. Except that... well, it didn't really feel off-balanced exactly just... just a different balance. It was actually sort of comfortable. The mop, which was the basset hound to her Cleansweep's chihuahua, was not as jerkily responsive to Carr's bumbling steering. It was quite easy for her to turn and move forward on the mop. She was still squeamish about the heights, but she felt more secure on the slow-moving mop than she ever had on the exciteable broom.

Standing up and dusting off his pants, Patroclus couldn't help but laugh at his mop. It was currently hovering just in front of his face, still pointed skywards but going nowhere.
Gripping it with his hand, Patroclus had an idea.
The mop seemed to lack speed due to it's weighted tail, so there was only one thing for it, he needed momentum in his take off. Grabbing the mop with both hands but having it at his side, Patroclus began to run, run as fast as his legs could carry him.
With all his speed behind him, Patroclus jumped onto the mop, and with a last kicked, shoot into the air, "Woo Whoo!" he cried as the mop maintained his momentum........but his joy was short lived.
The mop slowly began to...well slow.
Patroclus was just going to have to be content with a leisurely flight on this particular flying instrument!

Desperately trying to get back on the mop, he realizes he's getting lower and lower in the air. Trying to keep hold of the mop with his hands he drops down off it, having only dropped a couple feet, into the grass, he lies there dazed, shaking his head. He had the mop in his hand but it was now laying across him.
Pushing it off, he gets up and mounts it again. All right now...I'm gonna get this thing to go if it's the last thing I do. he thinks to himself silently, narrowing his eyes at the mop.
Kicking off as hard as he can, he manages to get the mop in the air at a reasonable height of six feet. Feeling the mop dragging a bit he urges it to go faster, going down the pitch, little by little he starts getting to the edge and tries turning it, it would let him turn! Yanking the handle to the right over and over again it keeps him on a steady path toward the lake. "No!!!" Not again! he thought beginning to laugh. It really wasn't all that funny, especially if he ended up in the lake this time, if it turned him upside down again.

Huh, he would smile at the thought of them flipping over in a dive wouldn't he.
Looking at the mop that she was holding, the girl couldn't help but grimace. Eh, she'd rather just not fly at all. A mop? Like, really? What gave him the idea for them to fly mops?
Mounting it though, since she STILL wanted to at least fly, the girl sighed in defeat and kicked off, only having to slide off the end and jump off before she could even get close to the wet end. Well, Professor V wasn't kidding when he said the tail end dragged a bit. You couldn't even hover in the air properly! UGH!
Picking the mop back up, GLARING at it as hard as she could so it KNEW that she was less then pleased at the moment, the Slytherin mounted the broom once more and kicked off the ground, at least flying forward this time....
...
This was not fun. She'd rather not be able to control the mop and shoot off into the barriers then go Destiny speed. "Go go go go..." she said, trying to at least will the broom to go any faster so she wouldn't slip off the end again. NOT WORKING!
