| | Flying Lesson #1
Located directly next to the castle is a vast expanse of green grass. This is where all Flying Lessons take place unless Professor Vindictus changes the venue.
A broom rack sits on a flat patch of ground and next to it is the professor. If you're here for the lesson, please have a seat on the grass and wait for the professor to begin.
Do not announce that you're late or else points will be taken away.
If you're not here for the lesson and take a broom for a joy ride on the grounds, then expect to face the wrath of Vindictus. |

One by one, the students returned to their seats on the grass and Vindictus was ready to resume the lesson. "Now that you have flying on broomsticks out of your system, let's discuss flying in general," he began. "Why do we fly on broomsticks?"

Fletcher had always wanted to know why wizards had to be weirdos and use broomsticks instead of like... their own legs or double-decker buses or something.
Scrunching up his face in thought, Fletcher kind of raised his hand. "Uhh... it's a highly... portable? useful? form of transport? And like, brooms are inconspicuous and stuff? You can use them for a quick getaway from Muggles???" Shrug.

Miles sat back down on the grass feeling much relieved after the bumpy ride. Sighing as he leaned back he watched Vindictus, "Because it's usually a lot simpler on those of us who don't have the stomach for apparating." He said with a wince and a hand to his stomach. Even the thought of apparating made him queasy.

Discussing.
*sigh*
Going from the incredibly fun stuff, to having to discuss stuff. Oh the fun it is!! "Umm, well they are good transportation for people who can't apparate." Obviously, that was one. She herself was never, ever ever going to apparate ever again. True it was side-along apparation but, not ever again. Ever!! "Besides, they're too fun not to fly." she said, putting down her hand and leaning back on the grass.

Amber thought for a moment. Was this a trick question? She raised her hand and said, "Professor, that could have a different answer for different people. For instance, like Fletcher said, it's a form of transport. But for another person, say a Quidditch captain, they'd probably say to practice to beat the other teams." She blew a piece of hair out of her face, smiling. Her know-it-all moments amused her so much!

Listening to the other's examples and thought of one for himself. "Besides for transport, I think we fly because beside being Wizards, we are also Humans, and man's greatest desire is to do what we are physically not designed for. If you look back at history the countless attempts at flying, be they failures or successes just proves that we fly, because we want to feel the wind in our air, to feel the rush of adrenaline, and touch the sky!"
T'was rather an out there answer, but it was why Patroclus liked to fly.

He eyed her. Wasn't she still mad at him? Apparently she got over it. Hmpf, it was quite unnatural for her to just forget something. She must be growing up. Or maybe, she simply forgot it out of shock. After all, an Evan Cartwright on a broomstick wasn't something you could see daily. Actually, this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance she was seeing right now , because he wasn't getting on a brook EVER again. So, in a sense, she was witnessing history. Hehe. Wise thing to put aside her feelings on such an important day. "I wish your eyes were deceiving you..." he muttered mainly to himself, barely audible, although if she--and the Huffie Champion, for that matter--listened carefully, they could still hear it. Forcing himself to smile, he nodded. Honestly, even he didn't think himself on a brookstick, and the next thing he looked today, he was here. His legs had betrayed him. "Life is full of surprises, eh?" he said. This was too much of a surprise though, he didn't like it. Was she crazy? Of course he did not want to race! He wanted to stay alive and healthy, thank you. And he didn't like that evil grin AT ALL! Looking to consider the offer, he glanced over the champion, then his hands which felt sore because of holding the broom for his dear life, he finally looked at her with a shrug too casual. "No, I'm fine here. Later, maybe?" As in eternity? Marie couldn't help but be amused by the look on Evan's face. The boy looked like he was about ready to pass out from fear. "Aw come on, you don't mean that now. Flying is really fun once you get the hang of it," she said. "Who knows, maybe some day you will be flying circles around me." Now that would be something that would really surprise her.
Aww he wasn't going to race with her. "Not later, now." she said. She knew if she didn't get him flying now there may never be another chance at it.
CRUD!
Professor V blew the blasted whistle. "Looks like you lucked out this time," she said. Quote:

Flying back down to the broom rack she dismounted the cleansweep and put it back in the rack. She then went to sit down to wait for the next part of the lesson to begin. Quote:

Why in the world would people use bathtubs? Seriously?! Bahahaha! "Well for one, a broom is way more easier to lug around than a bathtub is." she said, raising her hand once more before leaning back again on the grass. "And you wouldn't get any funny glances either, but it's more the fact that brooms are easier to conceal from the muggles."
It could also do with the fact that brooms were way more wind resistant then a bathtub or...recliner. Besides, that ravenclaw dude was right. Aren't flying carpets illegal? Unless there was some new law she missed, then she totally wanted one!!

They're also portable that it can be brought anywhere, and..... they're flexible enough for quick maneuvering during high speed flight." Well that was obvious wasn't it? Wizards liked sitting uncomfortably, more than sitting relaxed in a recliner. Wait were these asked last year and the year before that. "We ride brooms because they are much easier to store and hide from muggles"he then realized something "cause you know, when muggles see recliners and bathtubs they immediately think magic" he said sarcastically.

Well. YAY! Finally, time to get down, at least try to. Annie looked around as people talked about the freedom you could feel when riding a broom. Annie was not so sure about it, but they were right, what if she didn't learn to apparate. That'd be terror for her. Raising her hand for the next answer, she said "Well...as for flying carpets, they are banned...because they can be seen by muggles...not to mention they're a bit uncomfortable to move around." Yeah, like where could you keep a flying carpet if you needed to travel every once in a while? "And I think it goes for bathtubs too. The whole security, the secret way we live in front of the Muggles' eyes." She mentioned, just guessing though.

Vindictus nodded. "Again, one point for your answers. But try to think outside of the box! I don't care about the rules and regulations or what the Ministry thinks or if Muggles can see. Focus on this question - what would it be like to fly, let's say, a bathtub?"

Well, that one dude's answer was pretty...true. Unless you stuck a sticking charm on yourself and placed yourself in the bathtub or chair then you totally could!
...Had that ever been attempted before? "It would be boring." Simple as that. "Not to mention difficult. How can you even steer a bathtub?" Thinking it over though, she tried to imagine what quidditch would be like if they all flew bathtubs. Hehe and what an image THAT was. Of course, she totally was going to draw that later on when she was in the Slytherin common room. Just hopefully that French girl wasn't there invading the room. Meh. "And you'd look rather ridiculous. What with all the bugs that would have hit the bathtub when you fly around, and you being all bent down in the tub to get away from the bugs, and the fact that...it's a bathtub only enhances ones' inability to control their laughter when they see such a funny sight."
Which, she would surely be laughing at whoever decides to try to fly a bathtub. Perhaps even carry around a camera? Hehe.

Fly in a bathtub?! Annie quickly raised her hand, well...maybe like twenty seconds after the question was made. "Well, a bathtub itself is heavy...to make turns...and there is just space for yourself...and maybe a little person. But that'd be totally impossible..." She said, still thinking about her answer. "Not to mention it might be wet...and the metal tubes...those things would keep leaking water...." Yeah, that'd be totally uncomfortable. "Besides...it'd require a lot of magic to make it fly, go up..." Not like a flying carpet...because it could be spread, and maybe three or more people would fit on it.

Flying a bath tub? " that would be awesome, you just got to lay back, maybe take a nice warm bath. Sure it might be kinda heavy. But we could just invent a stronger flying charm, it would be completely awesome." oh yeah, he so wanted to try that. Hmm... He looked over a Patroclus, maybe that could be next years project. " wait! are we flying in a bathtub today?" cause why else would professor V be asking this

Why would anyone want to fly a bathtub? That just sounded absurd. Though he couldn't help but picture it in his mind. The bathtub filled with water and soap suds, with a little rubber ducky and a man with a shower cap. Before he could stop himself he was laughing hard and rolled backwards onto his back as he kept laughing. It was a hilarious sight.
Gathering himself he cleared his throat and shrugged, "It'd be awkward. Couldn't really see much. And the soap suds would go everywhere, people would think it was raining or snowing, suds would look like snow wouldn't they...," he said bursting out in laughter again so hard his sides were hurting now.

Oh thank heavens! Alice was so glad to be back on the firm ground and away from that broom that clearly had a sick sense of humor. She put it into the rack and walked away from it, waiting for instructions from the teacher. Quote:

"I personally feel that flying in a tub might be more safe than a broom. If you're sitting in it you are surrounded by walls, which gives you less of a chance of falling out...unless of course it flips, but if you can control it then you are okay. Plus if you are being attacked you could always duck down and use the sides as shields from spells." Alice contemplated flying around in a tub. Yes, that would be much better.
