Default Divination II

Nolan was seated on top of his desk as usual, although he looked much happier than last lesson. He wasn't wearing his glasses today and had instead opted for contacts, but he made up for his lack of style by wearing a stylish checkered cardigan. Yeah. He looked awesome.

Whistling merrily to himself, he drummed his fingertips on the top of his desk as he waited for the students to arrive.

Lila began to write her paragraph. When she had finished she walked up to the desk and handed it in. She quietly slipped out of the classroom so not to disturb any of the other students.

I like the Minchiate deck. It has the four virtues, four elements, and twelve zodiac signs in addition to the major and minor arcana. However instead of the emperor, pope, and empress cards there are the western emperor, eastern emperor, and grand duke. I think the additional cards make the deck more interesting.

Rotten poltergeist messed up class, Simon grumbled to himself, having prefered to have spent the time doing classwork then protecting stuff against Peeves. Oh well what can one do, he mused to himself, listening to Professor Reynolds give them one last assignment before they could leave.

The Gryffindor boy thumbed through his book to find the list again and looked through the various different types before picking up his quill to write his answer down on a new piece of parchment.

SPOILER!!: Choice of Tarot

Simon Bennett
Gryffindor/5th year

If I were to use a deck of tarot cards on a regular basis I would probably be the Runic Tarot. I enjoy working in Ancient Runes class and it would be interesting to mix the two aspects together and see the results.

When he was done, he backed up his stuff and got up. Simon walked up to the professor's desk, handed in the parchment to him and left the classroom with the rest.

Right. Assignment. Viky grabbed a quill and dipped in her chocolate-flavoured ink, thing hard before she wrote anything. Which deck would she use? Jeez, she had no idea. She sucked the end of her quill absently, and then spat it out at the awful taste. Ick. Now... back to the assignment thingy. Which deck?! Ugh. She looked around for some inspiration, and then had a thought.

SPOILER!!: Viky's Deck of Choice

If I had to use Tarot Cards everyday, I'd absolutely use the Gummy Bear Deck. I'm almost constantly carrying around sugar, so it seems appropriate to me. And also, they're gummy bears. Need I say more? They're awesome.

He checked his watch and...EEEP! Peeves had taken up so much time! Sigh. "Alright class, I'm afraid due to our little...visitor, time has run short on us today. The project I had in mind for our practical portion of this lesson will now be your homework, but I'm sure a number of you will still enjoy it," he explained with a smile. They should be happy about that. His original plan for this homework assignment had been an ESSAY.

"Now, before I dismiss you, please write me a small paragraph--actually, a paragraph is stretching it, perhaps just a sentence or two--explaining which deck you'd choose to use on a daily basis and why. For example, my favorite deck is the Celestial deck, because it mixes astrology with tarot card reading to give more unique results, and it's got pretty designs on each of the cards," he added. True story. They were so fun to look at! "You can find a list in your text, and since there's nearly 1000 different decks in there, I'm sure you can all find something, even if you're not a true believer in the tarot cards," he added with a chuckle.

"Homework will be posted later this afternoon on the bulletin boards. So, write your paragraph, hand it in and you're free to leave!" he said with a smile.
A point?! RUBBISH! But it kind of was worth it for the nap. He glanced at Ellie and grinned... Peeves had been good entertainment in a rotten lame class. Divination, pfeh. It wasn't logical, and his Ravenclaw brain was made for pure logic!

He pulled out his parchment and a quill - what nonsense. Ugh. Astrology, tarot, all of it was utter nonsense.

I hope that works for my homework, I can do more answers if you want me to so I can earn back my point. I'm sorry I fell to sleep in your class, it's just very boring not my favorite I was worn out from all the taroting. Can I please earn my point back?

Emmaleigh flipped throught the pages of the book, looking for the perfect deck. Man, there were SO many good ones. She LOVED the 8-bit set, and the Lord of the Rings set, but she kept looking untill she found the perfect one. And there it was, she picked up her pen and wrote

If I had to choose just one deck of cards, it would be the Fantastical Creatures deck. I grew up on a farm, and I love animals. These cards are so pretty, and have so many cool animals i've never even heard of before.

Emmaleight stuffed her things into her bag, and went to the front of the class to turn in her paragraph. "Thanks for the interesting lesson, Professor! Sorry about your crystal ball things." she said with a frown.

Nooo! Not the end! She didn't even get to PRETEND that Divination was interesting yet! That was the best part!

SIGHHHH.

Then she grabbed her textbook to flip through it. She was gonna find a set that DIDN'T have DEATH. Yes.

Uhm... Or maybe not. Eh, well. Ellie wrote this instead:

SPOILER!!: A few educated sentences
Quote:
If I absolutely HAD to use tarot cards on a daily basis, I would use a deck that didn't have a death card. Why? Well, I will tell you. Because I don't want to die. NOR do I want things to end. Things are too good to be over. In fact, I will make up my OWN tarot card set and it will NOT have a death card and I will use THAT on a daily basis. Come to me anytime to see your future. You're guaranteed a long life.

BEAM.

"But STILLL. How can death mean life?" I mean, seriously. It still made NO sense. And not that she really cared, she just couldn't leave without bugging Reynolds just a little itsy bit more.

Still, she got up, and lifted her bag onto her shoulder. To LOOK like she was leaving.

Hope is the only thing stronger than fear.

Daisy pulled out a fresh clean pieace of parchment and frowned. Stupid peeve ruined a perfectly good class and destroyed her chance learn a bit more about Tarot Cards. On the upside she knew which one she would use on a daily bases.

SPOILER!!: Daisy's Answer

Daisy Elizabeth Rohdes
Third Year Gryffindor

If I had to chose and Tarot Card Deck to use on a daily bases it woudl be the Aquarian Deck. I would choose this deck because the pictures are more vivid and up close that it can give a more personal feel for the outcome. Some people though, tned to find this deck a little more unusable because they have a hard time making a connection with the cards.

She took the paper up to the front and sighed," Here you go Professor Reynolds. Sorry class didn't go the way you planned it." A new kind of depression settled over her. She really didn't want to go and not know more about the tarot cards.

YAY! And now to write a paragraph about her favourite tarot deck. EASY!
My favourite tarot card deck is the Merlin Tarot card deck. I just think it's really cool how muggle tarot card reading has wound up relating to to magic in the Merlin deck. The designs are really ethereal and pretty. I think I just liked it because it was muggles making tarot cards into what they thought was a legend when really.. it's all true =] I'd use it on a daily basis because it's so subjectively interpretive and in all honesty, I think that's really what Divination is about.
And with that, she took her bag and left. It was time for some lunch.

Kurumi played with the end of her quill for a moment thinking about what deck of cards she would be most interested in using. Flipping through her book, she stopped on a page that showed a deck that she knew was the one for her. Time to write!

SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment

Kurumi Hollingberry
Gryffindor first year
Divination II in class writing assignment

The Tarot Card Deck of My Choice: The Tarot of the Cat People

I think that the deck I am most drawn to in the vast world of tarot cards is the Tarot of the Cat People. It is said that this deck is used by fortune-tellers who read the human mind. This deck enables the reader to see any far off location, pertaining to the inquiry of the client, in the mind’s eye. The deck has at least one cat on every card which is something I am drawn to because I love animals! Each suit (wands, cups, and so on) represents a kingdom and its people in some sort of parallel dimension called the Outer Regions, home to the Cat People, a race of humans that love, honour and even obey cats. There are certain ancient cultures who believed that cats have something mystical in them. The Olmecs (the mysterious culture before the Mayans) believed that there are certain royal breeds among their culture who are half-men and half-leopards. Egyptians regarded cats as sacred. Of course who can ever forget that black cats were regarded during the Inquisition period as partners in crime of the witches. In these modern times, we know that cats are more intelligent than dogs but are more difficult to tame. In summary, I would pick this deck because it links divination to one of natures most mystic animals, the cat, and because I love animals!

Kurumi looked at her parchment. Maybe she had gone a little overboard? But....she couldn't help it! Not when there were animals involved.

She gathered up her things and handed her parchment into the professors. "Thank you for today's lesson," she smiled handing the paper to him. "It's too bad that the inte----I mean, ghost took up so much of class time. I was hoping we were going to get the chance to try and do a tarot card reading with a partner."

I would chose the Faerie deck because the infusion with faerie magic would give unique and interesting results.
She handed her assignment to the professor. "Thank you for the great lesson, Professor Reynolds." Then she gave him a polite smile and left the classroom.

Good. He didn't get counted off for not raising his hand that time. Preston sat back in his seat a bit more relaxed, he was starting to like Divination now. He made a mental note to himself to never fall asleep in class, though he found it far too interesting to do such a thing...though History of Magic was another thing...

Preston wanted to give a little groan at the fact that Professor Reynolds wanted them to hand something in before leaving class. But Preston knew which set of cards he would use on a daily basis. He flipped the page in his notebook and started scribbling with his pencil, so excited he misspelled a few things but took the time and went back to erase them and spell them correctly.

SPOILER!!: Preston's notebook paper

I would probably want to use the Tell Me tarot deck because they're an easy and simplified version. I have difficulties depicting drawings, and this set of cards would be easy for me to recognize the meanings of the cards.

Preston packed his things up and tore the page from his notebook. He got up slowly from his seat and took his time walking up to Professor Reynolds. "H-h-here y-you g-go P-P-Prof-Professor." He told him handing the paper over to him. "I-I-I'll s-see y-you n-n-next l-l-lesson." Preston grinned at him before turning around and leaving the room heading for the Great Hall next for food.

What? Josh would use no cards because he did not believe that one could read the future with a deck of playing cards. Playing cards were only for games so he believed with them one could only have fun by pretending to read the future by their help. Hehehe. Whatever. There was an assigment he needed to do. So grabbing a piece of parchment he started to write.

"Homework will be posted later this afternoon on the bulletin boards. So, write your paragraph, hand it in and you're free to leave!" he said with a smile.
Sidney looks through her textbook. She has to agree with Professor Reynolds there are too many sets of card to choose from. Then one set of cards catch Sidney's eye.

SPOILER!!: My Choice of Cards

Sidney takes out a piece of parchment and starts writing.

Quote:
Sidney Marlowe
Hufflepuff/Third Year

"I choose the Mlle. Lenoramand Catomancy Deck because I love these cards. They have the regular playing cards like normally used in Catomancy plus the beautiful illustrations. This particular set is a reproduction of the set of cards used by Mlle. Lenoramand, the celebrated reader for Napoleon and Josephine of France. I like the idea of doing reading with a piece of history."
Sidney reads over her paragraph. She thinks that's about right. Since class is over with, Sidney gathers up her books and turns in the parchment. "Great class, Professor Reynolds. Bye, Peeves. It was nice to finally meet. you."

GLARE.

Nolan would have probably continued to overlook the boy sleeping, which would have been super lucky for the boy--with his little outburst however, he caught his attention.

"I'm sorry that I'm not able to hold your attention," Nolan told the boy with a sigh. "1 point from Ravenclaw for napping during class. I suggest you rest up tonight so you don't do it in your next classes as well," he explained.

Haughtine's little legs involuntarily fluttered under her desk as the Professor took a point from Ravenclaw. MWAAHhAahaaa! The man was becoming more and more heroic by the minute and she decided there and then that she loved Divination.

With a little reptilian smile she reached into her bag, laid out a sheet of parchment and dipped her quill into her ink to do her assignment beginning it with a sigh.

If I had the choice of which type of card deck to use for Cartomancy reading, I would chose to use the Egyptian Tarot. I like how the art looks exactly like Egyptian art from ancient Egypt. Also, the symbols that are used in the deck also resembles ancient Egyptian symbols, which I think gives the cards even MORE meaning than a standard Waite deck.

Drying the parchment and putting away her ink and quill, Haughtine took her bag and her assignment up to the teacher and handed it in, then quickly got herself out into the corridor where she could laugh as loudly as he wanted to.

What? the calss was over and no tarot reading??

Patroclus was a little dissappointed, he had wanted Neppie to read his spread again.....was she even here actaully?

Listening to the Professor, the boy made note of the final class assignment, and dripping his quill into his ink well, and snatching up a new sheet of Parchment the boy got to work.
The Renaissance Deck.
Being a fond lover of History, my personal choice would often come down to two separate decks, firstly the Ancient Egyptian Deck. This one has often been a favourite due to the history of Tarot, as one can trace back it's origin's to Egypt. However for a daily basis use, I have selected the Renaissance Deck. The initial choice to use this deck is mainly aesthetically based, as the rich images reminding me of the Renaissance art I am so fond of. However on deeper inspection The Renaissance Deck can be seen to link with the re-emergance of Tarot Reading, in the Renaissance period of Europe, when the Roles of the Ancient Greek and Roman gods were displayed on the Minor and Major Arcana Decks, and when the peoples of Europe were inspired by a new cultural Revolution.
Getting up from his seat, the boy packed his bag, then gave the Professor his notes, "Thanks for a great lesson Sir!", he smiled before heading out.

Oh class was over already? Mia was just starting to enjoy it even with the poltergeist in the room. And what was Eli thinking? Taking a nap during the class, she would have a word with him later.

Picking up her quill, Mia began to jot down which of the tarot decks she liked the best.

SPOILER!!: Mia's deck of choice
Mia Gibbins
Fourth year Hufflepuff

I like the Motherpeace Tarot deck the most because...well for starters it has the word peace in it and I am all for peace and harmony. Also because this deck with feminist leanings but not so much that males are not accounted for. It was also the first round deck of Tarot cards and I think it looks pretty cool. Something slightly different from your ordinary deck.

Now that was done, Mia packed up her stuff and stood up from her chair. "Great lesson sir. Thanks a bunch." And then in the same way she entered the class, Mia skipped out.

Fee listend carefully to the professor.
Oh no Divination was over?
Fee loved Divination.

Taking out a piece of parchment she began with the assigment.

SPOILER!!: Fee's assigment

If i had to choose i would take the fairy tarot. Because my mum halfway called me after what fairy means in german. I also like the graphics really much and fairy's always symbolize something very feminine.

What?! The class was over?

Oh.

Well.

Treyen took another little piece of parchment and started to write in it the little assignment they had. It didn't take long enough for him to finish, considering it was only a paragraph, a sentence, like the Professor just said.

Once done, he placed everything inside his bag and got up to leave, but he left the piece of parchment on the table before exiting the classroom.

Was he supposed to wait for Fletcher? Well, he could easily catch up, he was taller, much taller.

Huh??The class was over??Arrrrggghhh..She was enjoying this class and now it's over??*pout*

Freya pulled out her parchment and quill from her bag. She has to write her favorite deck, right? Well. That would be easy. She smirked and began to write the assignment.

If I had to choose a particular deck to work with everyday, I'd definitely choose One World Tarot, because it's a fusion of traditional and modern design. The card images remain linked to the wisdom of astrology and tarot of our unwritten past.
After she was done writing the assignment, she hand it to Professor Reynolds. "Thank you for the lesson, Professor. Good day, sir." she said smiling before leaving the classroom.

If I had to choose a deck to use everyday it would be the muggle deck, with the numbers. This is because I had grown up with it, and it is the most familiar to me. I used to use them with my dad, and we would play games.
"Thank you proffessor!" Pam handed her parchment to the proffessor, and left.

The Phoenix Tarot Cards are one of the cards that I would choose if I was tarot xard reader and used them on a daily basis. They were created in the 20th century and they have the most vibrant colors. I love lots of color it draws my attention and makes me intrested.

'Here you go professor, you have a nice day." she said as she handed him the paper. She smiled and walked out of the classroom

That's it, class was over already? Well that suited Marie just fine. Now she could be on her way to see what kind of trouble she could get into.

Right after she decided what cards she would like to have. Pfft, she didn't want any tarot cards. Since it seemed she would have to choose a deck before leaving class though she opened her book and picked the first deck she seen. Now to make up a reason why she would want those.

SPOILER!!: Marie's Card Choice
Marie Salazar
4th Year Slytherin

I think I would like to have the Phoenix Tarot Cards mostly because of the bright colors and cool pictures. Also the fact that they are named Phoenix which to me means healing and happiness, which means there can be no bad readings well there shouldn't be anyway.

Looking over her parchment she smiled to herself. Yep, looks like a good enough reason to her. After putting her things away she took the parchment to the professor. "Here you go, have a great day professor," she said as she walked out of the class.

Now, where could she go to cause trouble?

Class was over? Hehe, they barely did anything thanks to Peeves. It certainly kept her awake however, which was different almost. The sleepy feeling from the beginning of the class was now gone, surprisingly, and she was definitely ready to get out of class and do something fun. Like continuing her glare at cookie girl.

But, first this darn assignment they had to do. Choose a tarot deck and tell why they would use it? Pfft well that was simple enough.

SPOILER!!: Evelyn’s paragraph
Evelyn Flores-Shepard
4th year- Slytherin

I would use the Dragon tarot deck, because dragons are the best thing in the world! Well, one of the best things in the world, but they are definitely my favorite creature. Such strong, powerful creatures that people mistake as monsters…At least someone people in the world can really see their beauty. Not to mention they make lovely pictures to look at on the cards. The particular deck I like has a nice blue tone to it, so it makes the pictures look even more mystical and calming almost. Who wouldn’t want a dragon tarot deck?

Smiling to Josh, Evelyn packed up her things and handed in her parchment. Hehe. Now that that was done, and she totally wasn't tired from the class for the first time EVER, what to do now?

Still, she got up, and lifted her bag onto her shoulder. To LOOK like she was leaving.
Eli gave his bestie a look of agreement. "Right? Crazytown." he whispered to her, smiling and shaking his head. "Are you--" but before he could finish that thought...

He totally forgot that he had been talking to Ellie. At all.
