The Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom had a slightly stale odor to it after having been shut up for most of the summer, in spite of the half-hearted cleaning attempts Tate attempted. He wasn't a cleaner, and he didn't have time to learn to be one.
He threw open the windows as he entered the classroom, opting instead to spend the first few minutes in the room tracing chalk outlines on the floor. The lines created a sort of flat maze, covering the room from the door to his desk at the front. Tate cleaned his hands on his robes before taking a seat behind the desk.

What had just happened.
Raiden had tuned out for a moment and suddenly, all stupid had broken loose. Surely he'd caught a silent Confundus spell in the back or something because there was no way he was seeing what he thought he'd just seen.
In his staring at the door after the crazy person... he may have missed the draw. A little.
With that, the prefect stayed quiet, listening to others as they added their say and waiting for the class discussion to move forward so he could, you know, know what was going on again.
"Protego," he murmured absently, in response to Tate. It wouldn't help against everything though, as Raiden found himself thinking that a knockback jinx from the Headmaster might have saved the poor man from the crazy Gryffindor. Heh. | |

The Shield Charm! Vashti of course knew that spell - she'd used it to stop JD and Jacob's stupid fight. How convenient that she'd used it outside of the classroom as well as inside. Hehe. She wasn't going to volunteer though. What if it didn't work this time? She wasn't going to risk that happening in front of an entire class. Especially since it was supposed to be a demonstration and that would defeat the whole purpose.

Hermione was quite familiar with the Defense Spell Protego and was surprised the Professor was reviewing it. It seems like a spell from The Standard Books Of Spells Grade One. However, seeing how many volunteers there were Hermione wrote down the notes and waited to see what happened.
