| | CoMC Lesson #3 - Craft a Creature!
The weather is wonderful, almost as wonderful as in Mexico, and Maya might even look a bit happier for it...you could say, not so strict. Maybe.
As you head down towards the lesson area, you notice the bonfire is nowhere to be seen - it being daylight and much warmer and all that - but the logs that make up the benches are ready for you to sit on them. You might also notice that Professor Saylen has not arrived yet...which could make you wonder, was the lesson supposed to start today? Are you early, perhaps? Or maybe you are so very late!
Stick around and find out, or leave, it's your choice. But please don't throw a riot. Just sit down and...'relax'. OOC: The lesson will start in a couple of hours - around 6pm EST - so feel free to let your characters arrive, settle down and maybe have a little chat with friends and soon to be friends. Just don't spam the place. Ta! |

| Toothless - Napoleon of Crime - Gryffinclaw - Owl Emissary - Pirate Auror - DoctorDonna As he made his way back to his seat, Simon couldn't help glancing around to look at the various other projects at their varying state of completeness or even identifiability as an animal. He finally took his seat, unloading his pockets of all the materials he had collected and placing it on the desk in front of himself along with his wand. "Now where to begin?" he questioned quietly, looking over the items as if to decide. Grabbing his textbook, Simon thought to look inside for a picture on the phoenix in which to work from example. He finally settled on the pom poms to start with, using a fixing charm to attach together a large oval type object for the body of the bird and a smaller sphere for the head before attaching them together at one of the body's 'ends.'
Satisfied with the basic for of the bird, Simon turned to the pipe cleaners to work on the feet and the beak. Cutting a few of them to the right size that he wanted, he twisted three small pieces together to make one claw, bending the tips to curve into talons. Once he had that one done, he did it again to duplicate for the other foot and then took his wand again with a couple more sticking charms to attach them each to the other end of the makeshift body.
Next he picked up another yellow pipe cleaner and worked on shaping it into a beak. It took him a few trees but eventually it looked vaguely like the beak of a phoenix as shown in the picture. Sticking it to the head section, he pushed the rest of the pipe cleaners aside and moved on to the feathers, the most critical supply.
Glancing at the picture once more for an idea of how to varying the red and orange to get a flame-like look, Simon then gathered two small bunches of feathers, afixing them with more sticking charms to either side of the body, the creature finally taking shape. He then arranged a longer spray of feathers and afixed them together before sticking them to the body to form the tail.
Finally he added two smaller red feathers for a tuft on top of the head. Setting the completed mythical creatureon his desk, smiling at the outcome. Cleaning up his unused supplies, Simon returned them to the boxes before returning to his seat to await the professor's viewing of his project.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Tenacius "Ace" Salander Graduated x12 x12
| Adapting this for RP on what happened in RL >_< Ability is nothing without Opportunity | | Creativity is Intelligence having FUN
Salander read his card, furrowing his brow slightly then grinned when he realized what it was. Ohhh he liked this one, but how is he gonna make this a recognizably magical creature and not some sort of glorified table scraps?
He reached into the supplies box and took out a handful of candles. Hmm yeah this could work... he mused as he walked back to his place. He lay them on the ground and broke them into smaller pieces. "Incendio" he cast as he started to melt the wax pieces, trying to form its reptilian body. But just as he was adding in more wax, the surrounding leaves and twigs caught fire, spreading the flames around his work space. "Aaak!" he panicked, stomping it out with his shoes. He managed to get the fire out alright, but he also completely ruined the wax model with most of the wax and candles in bits or at the bottom of his shoes. Whoopeedoo.
He rubbed his head in frustration. Now what? He walked back to the supplies box and reached in again going through whatever was left. All he managed to rustle up was a blanket, a bunch of scarves and other stuff that looked to be leftovers from th winter holidays. Eh whatever. He needed to get this restarted, nearly half the class were already done with theirs.
He went back to his place cleared out the wax and leaves, wanting to make sure that these fabrics wouldnt burn from the ember of his previous disaster. He lay down the blanket and started to to form the long reptilian body again with the scarves, then took a few more fabric and started to form the head. It was starting to come together for him, or at least he thought so, but then again it also looked like he was messing with stuff from some poor Gryffindor's closet.
He lay the party favor down to set the creature's eyes then stepped back, twisting his head this way and that. Meh, its the best he can do to show a specific specie from the creature card he pulled out. He wanted to add a few more things in, but he ran out of materials. Besides it can be argued that this specie doesnt always have wings 'no?
"Urhm.... Professor I'm done." the Slytherin lad stood back. "I selected a Chinese Fireball Dragon. The uh.... flame from the dragon came earlier." which was true. Sorta.

She had a fairly good idea what it was, but the 'lays fifty eggs at a time' clue clinched it for her.
At last, she knew what she had to make!
She walked over to the boxes, grabbed some clay, and began to mould the body.
Two arms... Two legs... A head... Finally she was happy with the shape of the torso.
She went back, and grabbed some glittery pipe-cleaners, some PVA glue, a tube of gold glitter and a pot of blue glitter - it had to be house colours!
Now, what to use for wings...? Of course! Cellophane sweet wrappers, stretched round pipe-cleaners, coated with a thin layer of glue and then spritzed with her beautiful Puff!Glitter! Tadaa!
She worked quickly, sticking her tongue out at awkward moments, but it was worth it - her beautiful house-coloured Puff!Fairy was born! And of course, she would be called Helga... Maya walked over to what seemed to be a creature made of clay. And it had wings. HMmmm. "That is a very nice creature, Miss Frost." Still studying the creation, she nodded and could easily ***** that this bunch of kids were quite creative. "Well done." And did she want to make it...fly? Quote:

The Mexicana gingerly picked up the boy's card and read the description, an amused smile spreading her lips as she read.
Looking at the card, and then at the creature. One more look at the card...and back to the crafty creation. "That is..." not what Maya had in mind. "quite exellent, Mister Uronen." Yes, it was. "You have a very creative mind." To say the least. Hehe. Quote:

She gave the girl a small smile, which turned into a flat one when it was handed over. Aaaaand back on the ground it returned. "One, two, three." Flicks and the creature started to squeak. And then hop. Crafty creatures sure liked to hop. "Anyone else?" Maya asked around, knowing it was time to wrap up the lesson. "If not, class is dismissed. I'd like to...thank you" Really? Errr... "for this term. I do hope to see you all again after the summer vacation." Actually, she'd like to have summer vacation always. Somewhere warm. Where no snow appeared, maybe.

She was going to have her own fluffy little three-headed dog to play with! " Please please please please!" she said jumping up and down. Woah, her mother would kill her for this kind of behavior. " Erm...I mean... Professor, would you please perform the charm?" She held out her fluffy creation.

"Ready?" No going back now! With the three flicks towards the creature, the magic made it alive, its frill flexed as it gradually got more and more animated. Whoa, there we go.
Time to step away before it mistook Maya for its owner.
...hold on. Belonged to her? Squiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiint. What had he taken? WHAT? "What...is this thing that you...wish to return?" And pray you wont get detention during the summer holiday. It had decided to come home with him? What...
A creature. He took a creature. What creature? "If you value the points you've earned this term, you would be wise to tell me right now." Tick tock tick tock! Ready? No, but he'll get ready. He had to, right? Because even if he knew the creature from sight, there was no way of knowing how it could react. Though, he knew it wouldn't bite anything off. "Yeah, yeah, go ahead" but why did he get the feeling that she didn't want to be near it when it came to life? Was Saylen's spells containing some sort of homicide intentions? Hmmmm?
Treyen shook his head before he started to notice the fake!creature coming to life. And then he smiled. It was...amazing, really. It would've been even more amazing if the spell was taught. His eyes were only looking at the creature, as it did...not much, actually, perhaps it was frightened for all it did was moving the not-so-tiny head from one side to the other as if looking from some escape.
The escape he was now seeking.
Oh my Gilderoy! He should've freed the Dugbog just like he told Arya. Yeah, he was scared. "Well, you see," he started to say, "we had this lesson," couldn't she guess? Because he couldn't have taken an Acromantula with him, right? "and it wasn't until I opened my bag that I noticed something inside it..." which ate some of his parchment too, or well, he wasn't sure if the Dugbog ate it, but they were ripped apart, "...I brought it back." because it said in the noticeboard to bring back whatever creature got away, no?
Treyen's eyes moved over to the frilled dragon as it started to move, ironically towards his bag, and the boy took the bag in case the little dragon wanted to harm whatever was inside it. He feared losing points over this, especially since he's been working really hard for them this term, but...whatever. "See, it's perfectly fine" he said, opening the bag so Saylen could take a look inside, and in fact the Dugbog seemed okay between some ripped parchments. "But I didn't took it, it decided to follow me after class" perhaps he shouldn't have said the class part, it would've worked out much better if he'd just said he'd found it.

Allrighty. Finally being able to whip her wand out from her wrist holster, she pointed it at the christmas rock thing and flicked it towards it three times. The rocky head moved, then it's body, and then started hopping on the spot.
Right. It was Evelyn's problem now. Snicker. It won't act like a clabbert? "...alright?" Looking from the professor to the Christmas looking rock creation, she watched out of the corner of her eye at what the professor was doing with her wand before...
O___O!!
It looked like Destiny who was hopped up on too much chocolate. Staring at it, become bored already, the Slytherin fixed her hair as she watched the thing jump up and down. Wow. Exciting- MEEP! "Hey!"
The thing...it was hopping away! "Come back!" PFFFFT!! Well, this wasn't what she was expecting it to do. She was expecting it to fight with the others, or at least was hoping it would. Not run away.

Okay, happy day, happy...words. "That is quite exellent, Miss Lockhart. I do think it's one of the best I've seen." In this class, that is. Pffft. "You are quite talented." And if she wanted to, that little manticore could be running after her for a day. Melanie held up her manticore when she realized the professor was looking at it, a feeble smile forming on her face. Her grin only grew wider as Professor Saylen spoke, until she was practically beaming at the woman. "Really?" she asked, a note of disbelief in her voice. Excellent? Talented? For reals? Or was her professor just playing mind games? "You know, I thought it looked too cute to be a manticore." Melanie told her, gazing thoughtfully at her creature once more. "I guess most people that see manticores get devoured by them though... so we don't really know how cute they are. They could be adorable... ferocious, creppy and all, but still downright cute."
Enough rambling.
She had to admit it would be pretty awesome to have a little creature of her own creation come to life, but she had her doubts. And with her doubts came questions. "Professor, if you brought it to life wouldn't it try to... well..." How did one put it? "...kill us all?" Melanie finished, raising her hand. Her manticore might be small, but she did paint pretty sharp teeth on it and it had a little stinger and claws.

It sort of made Maya loose focus for a second. "Yes, allright." And a swish flick flick flick at the creation, and come alive creature of...cottonballs.
First one of its head moved, then the second head bobbed while the third one made a sqeaky noise. Hm. Time to go. Yes. Maya gave Kurumi an akward smile and fled the scene. Quote:

Maya's eyes had gone smaller, squinting at the boy before her, hands on her hips and working that ' oh no you didn't' look. She listened, allright, and wondered just how much of what he said was true. She didn't even care about the crafty creature trying to set fire to, or whatever it wanted to do, his bag.
It followed him after class? Raising an eyebrow, she craned her neck and peeked inside the bag. Hm. It did look harmless. Buuut she wouldn't be sure until she examined it!
Put her hand in his bag or ask him to take it out- er, no. "With permission..." she grimaced-smiled and put a hand into the back, grimaced again as it bit her, and then took her hand out again with the dugbog in a tight hold.
She should just... She really should... Like, "I should take away all of your points if what you're telling me is not true." She couldn't do much there. Thinking of the dungbomb incident. "But thankyou for bringing it back, Mister Lockhart."

Maya stared at the young girl for a moment, specially having a good look at the smudged paint on her face, before remembering to blink. Remember, happy day and comments. M, yes. So she just didn't reply to that comment. "Kill us all? Yes, it might." Anything was possible. "But seeing as it is made out of paint and paper, it wont actually act like a real manticore." Did that calm her enough? "But it would be prudent to be catious." Ofcourse. And before she scared the girl even more, Maya raised her wand and swished flickerrred to get the craft-creature going. And it did, by making a hissing noise as if it was deflating. Hmmm. And then it sort of leaned back and tapped its front paws on the surface it was standing on. There we go.
Wait, had she said 'yes' or 'no' to the spell? Well too late now. Hehe.

Hehe. Stop the squinting! Treyen gets even more nervous by the second with all the squinting! Creepy squinting! Stop!
Oh, he was dead.
What? Permission? Absolutely! Go ahead! The boy stood motionless as she retrieved the Dugbog, and he couldn't help but think of Arya when she mentioned he should name it. Good thing he didn't, though.
His face fell. Entirely. His eyes widened. No, no points taken! Like, Hufflepuffs will kill him for returning the creature. If Saylen didn't get to him first, that is. But he WAS telling the truth. And since he was already nervous, the boy started to ramble about this incident, "I am telling the truth, why else would I take a creature along? I didn't want it to be growing somewhere without its family." could he just....stop talking?!
He did, because the frilled dragon tail sort of poked him on the leg, and the reason for the poking was the thing walking away from them, "Oi! Stop it, don't walk away!" he said, and the fake!creature began moving faster, but stop not too far away.

Well, it was just going to learn the hard way! Picking her wand back up from the pile of extra clay and muddy ground, the Slytherin pointed it towards the fleeing rock before lowering her arm in defeat and disbelief.
WHAT!? NO FIRE!? "But whyyyyyyyyy?" Queue the whining voice. Ugh. Frowning, she looked back towards the monkey frog Christmas rock, giving it a look of slight disgust and amusement as it hopped from bench to bench. Walking over towards it, she tried to pick it up before it's hopping was...well it just made the task that much more difficult.
Pffft. However, Salander's dragon definitely didn't go unnoticed by her and she had at least half her attention to where he was standing. Lookatit! Dragons...were so much better than clabberts. Especially Christmas clabberts.

Vashti didn't think so, but of course, it wasn't exactly a normal peacock, was it?
She nodded at the professor's intrsuction and said, "Thanks, Professor," before returned her attention to her rolling clay peacock. It was getting its feathers all dirty, man! She'd worked hard on those feathers! "Hey! Don't do that!" she scolded it, and every time she reached down to prevent it from rolling any further, it tumbled away and out of her reach. Stupid bird... At least she hadn't given it wings, so it couldn't fly away. That was the only bright side to this situation at the moment.

Buuuuuut he had done it now. Sigh. She took a deep breath, hearing him out and his...wise words of creature life. And when Maya spoke, she sort of started waving the creature around. "Allright. That is quite well, Mister Lockhart. Thankyou for returning him. I hope this will not happen again, for your sake and the creatures. IF it happens you better bring it back as soon as you find it. I don't care if you're in a lesson or about to..." no, that's it. "Just don't let it happen again." Hm.
She watched him trying to catch the creature he made. It was a bit amusing actually. "I think you'll need a leash aswell." Yep. Quote:

WHAT!?
Oh, whiny voice Make it stooooooooooooop.
But Miss Flores seemed to get all distracted by her creature. Interesting creature indeed. "I better not see a rock on fire hopping around the school, Miss Shepard!" Point at fleeing rock.
Hehe, it looked funny too. Quote:

She nodded at the professor's intrsuction and said, "Thanks, Professor," before returned her attention to her rolling clay peacock. It was getting its feathers all dirty, man! She'd worked hard on those feathers! "Hey! Don't do that!" she scolded it, and every time she reached down to prevent it from rolling any further, it tumbled away and out of her reach. Stupid bird... At least she hadn't given it wings, so it couldn't fly away. That was the only bright side to this situation at the moment. Maya looked away and could hear the bird thing rolling around. Err. "That rolling might go away...it's figuring out what it is." And all that. And then this ruffling sound was heard. Was it testing its feathers? How cute. "Look at it go. You might need a leash too."
Yeah, all the craft-creatures needed a leash it seemed. "You probably know not to get it near fire either." Heh.

Hehe, it looked funny too. Becoming distracted once more because of her runaway clabbert, the Slytherin turned away from the dragon creature and hopped up on one of the benches as well, following the little stone creature from bench to bench. Nuuu! Not towards her bag!
As a tiny squeak of fear escaped her, the clabbert's short arm stuffing itself in her CLEAN bag, which wasn't so clean anymore, the Slytherin hopped off the bench and next to the clabbert. MWA! "WHY NOT!?" she asked, struggling with the thing. Why did she make it so heavy again? And why could she set it on fire? It would be EPIC!
Ending up dropping the crafted creature for fear that it would slap her with it's rock webbed hand, she watched it hop off towards the direction of the lake. Eh. Grabbing her bag with her muddy and dirty hands, for a moment, Evelyn paused and looked back towards the professor. No, she really didn't need that question answered. Whatever was going to happen to the clabbert, the girl would find out. Teehee. "Byyyyyeee Professooooooor!"
Follow the green dented road! Eesh, that thing was heavy enough to make some serious footprints in the ground.

She watched him trying to catch the creature he made. It was a bit amusing actually. "I think you'll need a leash aswell." Yep. Right. Saylen was right. Totally right. But did she realize that Treyen pretty much hated her at first. 'Hated'. Hmmmm. Could he...not be hating her that much anymore? "No, no, Professor, it won't happen again" because he didn't want an Acromantula in his bag, and trust him to look into everything he owns before leaving one of her classes, in case another creature decided to join him in the Common Room, or the Great Hall, or wherever.
But...eek! The little frilled dragon sort of acted like a lizard sometimes, and the thing was fast when it wanted to be. Yeah, Treyen wasn't sure he was going to keep the charm working all day, perhaps by lunch time he'd have to cast 'finite' on it. Sigh. The fake!creature was just the most hyper thing he's ever seen, and trust him, his sister's owl was beyond hyper.
He looked up at Saylen. "A leash?" oh, right, of course! Just...where was he going to find that? He knew how to conjure up ropes, but...yeah, those weren't the same. Oh, lookit! He caught him! Treyen was a happy boy and a very smart one...can you imagine if he'd done the creature real-sized? Yeah, he'd never caught it.
So, they could leave, no?

Emmy hurried forward, hoping she wasn't too late.
"P-professor? Professor Saylen? I wonder, could you animate my fairy please?"
It would be so cool to see her fluttering round the dorm!
Shame it only lasted for a day... But maybe she could ask Saylen to reanimate her next term!
