Default CoMC Lesson #3 - Craft a Creature!

The weather is wonderful, almost as wonderful as in Mexico, and Maya might even look a bit happier for it...you could say, not so strict. Maybe.

As you head down towards the lesson area, you notice the bonfire is nowhere to be seen - it being daylight and much warmer and all that - but the logs that make up the benches are ready for you to sit on them. You might also notice that Professor Saylen has not arrived yet...which could make you wonder, was the lesson supposed to start today? Are you early, perhaps? Or maybe you are so very late!

Stick around and find out, or leave, it's your choice. But please don't throw a riot. Just sit down and...'relax'.

OOC: The lesson will start in a couple of hours - around 6pm EST - so feel free to let your characters arrive, settle down and maybe have a little chat with friends and soon to be friends. Just don't spam the place. Ta!

Freya took a very very deep breath before she looked into her card. 'Please..Please..not spiders or other freaky creatures' she prayed. She looked down in her card and relieved was over her face. Thank Merlin the creature didn't sound that bad at all. Okay now for the artwork! She walked towards the boxes to pick up every things that she needs to make the creatures.

Right?
This should be fun.

Fun watching their weird creatures and maybe how far from the real ones they were. Hehehe.

"Okay, each of you can come up and get a card," bending down, she hauled up another box from inside the box. And another smaller box from that one, making a row. "and then find your items that you wish to use." Gesturing at the boxessss.

OOC: So this is how it's going to work.

I'd like for you to have your character think/whisper to her friend/whatever what kind of creature he/she would like to do. For example ''Maya hoped she could do a muggle creature because they were more interesting.'' OR ''Making a muggle animal would be fun because Maya hadn't seen many of those''. If you don't mind what creature it is, have her/him think that.

Then, choosing a creature for you, going by if you want muggle or magical, I will PM you a small list describing the animal, which then you/your character must go by when creating your model.

Let your imagination run loose and find whatever you want to find in those boxes. But, ofcourse, let's all follow the SS Board rules, yes?

Remember, this is for fun - Maya will not remove points if your character doesn't know what kind of creature has those certain qualities. She'd rather see you use your imagination than acting as if they do know when they really don't ; )
But, up to you.

Marie listened to the real professor as she spoke. She wasn't too pleased when she heard what the assignment was either. She hated doing arts and craft sorts of things and that is just what they were going to have to do here today... Something artsy.

She should just o the easy way and hope to get a magical creature on her card since she knew all about those already but she kind of hoped she got a muggle creature. That way when her completed project turned out looking nothing like what it should she could use the excuse that she didn't know what it was really supposed to look like.

Finally making her way to the front she grabbed one of the cards. Hmm, would she get that muggle creature?

Accepting the card he was give, Simon turned it over as he stepped out of line to see what it was he would supposed to be making.

SPOILER!!: Simon's card

"Hmm thats easy," he mused quietly to himself as he placed the card in his robe pocket for safe keeping while he gathered supplies for the project. The clues revealing the rare creature in just the first line at least to him, the rest just confirmed it. The gryffindor walking over to the three boxes to see what kind of items they might hold to help him create his creature. On his first search, he happened upon some pipe cleaners and noticing their stiff but bendable nature realized they had a use in his project.

"These should be perfect for talons and a beak." Simon added sticking a couple of yellow ones in his pockets before renewing his search.

"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."

Using a bit of brown paint Alice began to paint the white cotton balls a light brown color, leaving the bottom of them white to indicate the stomach of her artistic creature.

She ran her wand over it swiftly to dry the paint (a little tip she had picked up while reading some beginner's spell book) and set the little body down on the ground. Now to work on the ears.

Alice took the pieces of a tannish color construction paper, and carefully cute out two shapes that strongly resembled rabbit ears. She loved how they were going to be a good bit bigger than the body, which, if the creature was what she thought it was, would be appropriate. Using a little bit of grey paint, she painted the one side of the ear before running her wand over it again for the paint to dry.

Grabbing a pair of scissors Alice cut the two ears out and laid them next to the body. The last thing she had to do was make the tail and the legs...she figured the legs would be the hardest part.

Using the same brown construction paper she had used for the body, she drew a rough sketch of the legs before cutting them out. They didn't look great, but Alice wasn't really much of an artist, so they would have to do!

Using the long piece of string she had grabbed Alice began to take some fluff off of the extra cotton balls, and sticking it to the string. It needed to be a fluffy tail after all, didn't it? She was always amazed at how efficient muggle glue was and was glad she had it because she didn't know a sticking spell that she could use.

Alice collected all of the pieces and began to assemble them. She bent the ears a little to give them a nice curve before gluing them to the cotton ball body. She glued on the paper legs that actually blended rather nicely with the rest of the body, before gluing the one end of the string to the back of the cotton ball.

She ran her wand over it once or twice to make sure the glue was completely dry and had a nice hold, before holding up the creature to examine it. Not too shabby if she did say so herself!

"Um...Professor Saylen? What would you like us to do with our creatures once we are done with them?" Alice asked.

Seeing that everyone else was standing up and getting a card at the front. Cass decided that she should do so as well. So she stood up and made her way up to the front to get herself a card.

"Please nothing scary, or nothing slimy. Let it be something fluffy and lovable." She muttered under her breath as she drew a card.

Taking her clay she rolled into a ball. She grabbed her scissors and began to cut with the tips of the scissors into the clay making it look like fur. Looking at the new cuttings in her clay to make sure there were none to big and then she sat it down. She would use that as a body.

The Clay was white so she grabbed some cream colored paint ad began to paint the ball with the previous cuts in it. Making sure to highlight the fur to make it look real. After she finished she ran her wand over and dryed the paint. she got that from a student who had did it earlier.

She grabed some flex string that was pink and glued it to the front of the ball of clay and she moved the string so that it can look curly. Moving on to the eyes she grabbed the two small google eyes. Using a perment sticking charm she placed the eyes on the front of the creature.

She waited for the creture to dry it was so purrrty.

The next branch of his search proved a little harder and Simon was digging further and further into the box trying to find somethings to work with for the body. He finally found some multicolor pompom---cotton type balls.

"These might work," he mused, gingerly picking through the various colors to get all the reds he could find to put in his pockets with the pipe cleaners before setting the container they had been in back in the box. It was then that he noticed something else ready in the other box beside him. Upon closer expection, his eyes lit up in surprise and he moved to free them from their confines with the other items in the box.

"Jackpot!" he exclaimed pulling the bunch of feathers out to see if there was enough. For he knew for a bird he's undoubtedly need many to repressent the wings and tail feathers. Simon proceeded to take most of the red and a few oranges as well to give the flame illusion. Satisfied, the Gryffindor boy moved to walk walk to his seat to get to work on making his creature and left the other students to their search.

Why, Maya thought it was. Anywho, she waited for everyone to take their seats and whatnot before finally announcing what the lesson would be all about. Bring the sad noises, "Instead, we are staying here, enjoying the weather and making some..." she kneeled by the box, opened it, and took out a scissor and a handful of cottonballs. "...creatures."

After looking at the card he knew.Walking to the box he get out a pair of chattering teeth, several blocks of modeling clay, some doll eyes and 4 Lincoln Logs.
Taking the Chattering teeth he starts to mold the clay around them, once the teeth are covered with just the wind up key exposed he test it out Chomp chomp chomp. Seeing that it needs more of a snout he add a bit more to the front and then uses some tree bark to add an armor to the top and leaving the bottom smooth.Taking anouther block of clay and puts the Lincoln Logs on the bottom and tree bark on the top, then moulding the clay to cover the logs, putting the 2 together and adding bark to cover the seam, with the third lump of clay he makes a tapered tail, and attaches it to the outher two then placing bark on top "Pingo Green as the bubbles come out to cover the clay and the bark leaving a lighter coulor on the bottom placing the eyes on top of the snout just behind the teeth. He winds the key
Chomp chomp chomp "professor how do he look "

Emmaleigh flipped her card over, and carefully read the description of the creature. She smiled as she realized that she knew what the creature was, thanks to that second flying lesson. Lets see, she needed something small, that she could easly hold in her hand. And it needed to be light and fragile too. IT made her think of a egg shell, but that would be the wrong shape, and well, it would be gross if it broke. So Em dug throught the box looking for something to use. "Perfect" she exclaimed as she pulled out a ping-pong ball. It was the right size, and kinda fragile. And what would she do for a beak? um, maybe a toothpick? yeah, that would work. She took these things to her seat to work on coloring them. She would work on the feathers and wings later.

Kurumi slowly flipped over her card and took a deep breath before she read it. Her eyes continued to grow bigger and bigger and BIGGER with each word. She had hit the jackpot of all magical creatures. Hadn't she asked Professor Saylen about this super big and potentially fluffy creature before then had gone tromping into the Forbidden Forest? Kurumi read over the description a few more times before putting it into her robe pocket for safe keeping.

OK, now time to get down to making something cute and fluffy. Kurumi made a dash over to the supplies and found...BINGO! Cotton balls! Gabbing a large handful of those, she plopped them back on her work space. Her eyes darted back to the supplies - now she needed something sturdy to make the body out of. Pipe cleaners? Well, at least they were bendable. She could put all the cotton balls around them to build up the body.

Kurumi pulled on the cotton balls to stretch out the material and wrapped them around a few pipe cleaners. Once she had built up the cotton fluff enough, she bent them and tied them around to form the base for the body and four legs. Now, for some color! "Pingo BROWN!" Now her white cotton balls were a toasty brown color. Now...she had the necks...what was she going to do for the heads?

Emmy hung back, hoping that her card wouldn't be too hard - maybe some simple (but scary) magical creature? Yes, that would be good; then, when she'd learnt the correct spells, she could enchant it, and set it to hunt down her enemies!

Picking up her card, the Slytherin hesitated for a moment before taking a step back away from the others and moving back over to her bag. Or well, she was thinking of moving back over to Josh so he could read her card for her since she was scared it might be describing an acromantula but he was getting his own card.

Reluctantly though, she paused in place and flipped her card over, her eyes flying across the words. Oh thank Merlin. It wasn't a spider. Sighing in relief, and blinking, shrugging off the nerves and mentally berating herself for being so silly about it, Evelyn glanced back to the box of supplies, wondering what the heck she was going to use to create this...thing.

Hehe, it...it reminded her of Raiden. *snicker*

Si?
Muggle glue? Hmm, she read about that stuff. Kinda like frosting on a cake or cupcake, keeping sprinkles and whatever on. Or like that time they used frosting in that astronomy class for that solar system they were supposed to make...

O__O! Who would dare 'glue' a professor? And this one to be more specific?!

...Well, she would of course. Not that she would.

Turning away from the professor, so her smile wasn't noticeable, the Slytherin glanced at the boxes before sighing once more. Meh. Why couldn't she just draw a picture of this creature? Wait, actually...that sounded like a good idea. Raising a brow, she tucked the card she had with the description of the creature up her sleeve and grabbed as much clay stuff as she could, before moving over to an area away from everyone else.

Yes, time to get her hands dirty. Bleh.

SPOILER!!: Cass' Card

Cass flipped the card that she had drew out over and smiled. "Ooh. Sounds nice." She said softly as she read the facts on the card. The only problem was...she didn't know what it was. She didn't know any wizarding creatures that were furry and have a love for carrots. So it must be a muggle one...

She sat down for a while and thought hard. A symbol for eater....

Then she stood up with a jolt and headed to the box of supplies that the professor had set down. She had finally figured it out!

She gathered balls of cotton, styro balls, muggle glue, sharp sticks, paint, and markers. She was going to make the cutest creature. EVER.

Nervously, Emmy picked a card, and flipped it over. It was a moment or two before she realised she'd shut her eyes, not wanting to see what had been scribbled on the card.
Steeling herself, she opened her eyes just enough to read through. As she read, however, her eyes grew wider and wider...

She had a fairly good idea what it was, but the 'lays fifty eggs at a time' clue clinched it for her.
At last, she knew what she had to make!

She walked over to the boxes, grabbed some clay, and began to mould the body.
Two arms... Two legs... A head... Finally she was happy with the shape of the torso.
She went back, and grabbed some glittery pipe-cleaners, some PVA glue, a tube of gold glitter and a pot of blue glitter - it had to be house colours!
Now, what to use for wings...? Of course! Cellophane sweet wrappers, stretched round pipe-cleaners, coated with a thin layer of glue and then spritzed with her beautiful Puff!Glitter! Tadaa!
She worked quickly, sticking her tongue out at awkward moments, but it was worth it - her beautiful house-coloured Puff!Fairy was born! And of course, she would be called Helga...

With her card right beside her, she proceeded to start on her model. She took the different styro balls and piled them on top of each other and kept them together using a stick. Then she took a paint brush and brushed paint over the white surface, then the fun began. She started putting cotton over the sticky surface until everything was just a fluffy patch of cotton.

Kurumi took a step back to admire her fluffy brown cotton ball creation. She was still wondering what she was going to do about it's three heads, but she was too preoccupied at the moment wondering if she had made him fluffy enough. Maybe a few more Pingo-ed cotton balls were in order.

Kurumi dashed back to the supplies and grabbed a few more before casting Pingo BROWN on them as well and adding them to the body. She tore of a few smaller bits and added those to the legs to make sort of rounded paws. Still headless, Kurumi flipped her cotton ball fluff of a beast upside down, grabbed a black pen, and began drawing on the bottom of the paws to make them look more like how an adorable fluffy dog's paws should look. With that now done, she set her model back on the table and looked at the three fluffy necks. She really needed to give them some heads.

Kurumi made another trip over to the supplies and took her fluffyness with her. She needed something round and not too heavy. The first thing she picked up was something that she thought was a crab apple. Nope, that wasn't going to work. She found an empty egg carton...that had possibilities and each individual section had a much better shape for an animal than something round. She also found some Styrofoam balls and brown playdough. Hmm...that had possibilities too. Deciding that the ball and playdough would probably be easier to deal with - and she could add some cotton fluff to the playdough - she set the carton down and returned to her station with the other supplies.

She first covered each of the balls with a thin layer of playdough before squishing some of the cotton ball fluff on top of that. Since the pipe cleaners were sticking out as necks, she pushed the balls on top of those. Good, nice and sturdy and surprisingly not top heavy. Now that her fluffy ball had it's heads and cotton, Kurumi Pingo BROWN-ed those and then looked at their faceless expressions. Nope, that wouldn't do either. Her model needed a super duper cute face. Kurumi looked around at the supplies and found some black, white, and red felt. Perfect. She used the black and white to make some adorable puppy eyes that she then glued to each of the heads so that each was looking in a different direction. She then used the remaining black felt to make oval noses and smiling mouths for each head. Now, for a cute touch! She then added some red hanging tongues. Yep, now her model was adorable looking!

Kurumi checked her card and saw the mention of music. Of course, she instantly thought of Adam and him playing the drums, but, from what she had read about this creature, drums were not exactly the way to go. Grabbing a bunch of tooth picks, Kurumi glued together a harp and then Pingo GOLD-ed it and then attached it to one of its feet. Then, seeing the mention of treasure, Kurumi grabbed a handful of buttons and used some of the felt to make a small bag which she then stuffed the buttons into. There, a quick and easy treasure box! She then set this under the model's belly and took a step back to examine her work.

Kurumi smiled and nodded in approval. Now...he needed a name. Fluffy had already been taken, so she needed something else. Her pet at home's name was Hikari...but she couldn't possible name this the same. "I know!" Kurumi said as a light bulb went on in her brain. "I'll call you Hachi." Yep, perfect. Using some of the red felt, Kurumi made a collar and wrapped it around all three necks. She then took one of the golden buttons and grabbed the black pen again to write her creature's name on it.

Perfect.

Kurumi looked around for the professor and raised her hand. "Professor, I'm done." She smiled and held up her adorable fluffy creation. "What do you think?"

SPOILER!!: Vashti's card

Flipping over and reading her card, Vashti was fairly sure she knew what it was. Now the only problem was...how was she going to make it? She walked to one of the boxes, digging around to see what might be of use for her project. She found some play-doh/clay, which could be useful for the body, and although it wasn't the right color, she could fix that. She also discovered a few packages of white feathers, some pipe cleaners, little fuzzy balls, and a Chinese fan. That could probably help with making the tail. She also grabbed a couple bottles of glue to help with sticking things on. Clutching her materials, she read over her card again to make sure she'd gotten everything she needed.

There was one line she felt she hadn't gotten anything for, but upon rereading it, she got an idea on how to work it into her model, and so she began digging through the box again, searching until she found a little package of seeds. This would do nicely.

Vashti sat down in a spot where she had plenty of room to spread her materials out and started with the clay and the play-doh, carefully trying to mold it into a body, neck, and head for her creature. It wasn't working so well as one giant piece, so after several minutes, she decided to split it into three separate pieces, rounding the smallest piece out for the head, rolling the second in-between her hands to make the longish neck, and rounding out the third piece to make its body. She then took the next few minutes connecting the three pieces, head to neck, neck to body. The head and neck connected fine, as did the neck and body, but as she curved the neck upward, it kept looking like it might fall over, so she pulled out her wand and said, "Fixate." The neck stayed in its place.

Now for the color. Pointing her wand at her play-doh bird, she said, "Pingo Blue!" As she said it, deep blue bubbles popped out of her wand and splattered on her model, covering it in the blue paint. She did it a second time to make sure she covered every inch of it in blue.

Next Vashti took a little bit more clay in her hands and molded it into two open triangles for the beak. She then stuck it onto the front of the head and pulled her wand out once more to fixate it then gave it a grayish-brown color. Then, tearing open the packet of seeds, she took out a few and stuck them into the bird's open mouth, as if it was eating them.

Now for the head decoration thing. She took the pipe cleaners, little fuzz balls, and a bottle of glue and begin working on sticking the fuzz balls to one end of each of the pipe cleaners. Once that was done, she began sticking the pipe cleaners to the back of her bird-model's head so that they stuck up to make that head decoration as described on the card. Thankfully, the pipe cleaners were stiff enough to stay up without forcing her to use fixate on them, but flexible enough to let her bend them slightly and adjust them to form a sort of "crown." She once again used the color spell to give the little fuzz balls a dark bluish-black color.

And now - feather time! A.k.a. the potentially very messy part. Vashti grabbed a package of feather and tried to open it as carefully as possible so as to prevent the feathers from spewing all over the place. A few managed to fly out but got caught in her hair before they could float away. Taking a small handful, she placed them carefully over the Chinese fan, making sure they all faced the same way. She worked on one side first, using a combination of glue and fixate to keep the feathers in their place, and stopped that only once the fan could no longer be seen. She then repeated this process with the other side until the entire fan looked nothing like itself any longer - it was just a bunch of long white feather all stuck closely together.

Vashti blew a few strands of hair and feathers out of her face as she pointed her wand at the feather!fan. She gave them a pale green color, adding a large-ish spot of light brown and deep blue. Then, once satisfied with te color, she glued it to the hindquarters of her model, giving it its fanned tail feathers.

Now, letting out a long, deep breath, she took a few steps back to look at her handiwork, checking for anything she might've forgotten. Instantly she realized she hadn't given the poor bird any legs or eyes. She amended this by searching - and fortunately, finding - two black marbles; she stuck these one either side of the head to represent the bird's eyes. Then she picked up to sticks lying on the ground, broke off any parts of it that didn't help it look like legs/feet/toes, and carefully picked up the body of the bird to stick the twig-legs into its underbelly. She fixated it to ensure it wouldn't fall.

There. That kind of looked like a peacock, didn't it?

"I think I'll call you Lucius," she told it before raising her hand. "Professor, I think I'm done.

Default Oh, Professor! *whistles*
Eagle Eye [⅓ Badger Trio] Felon & Kafka ♥ Gilderoy Lockhart <3 [TEAM 947!]

Treyen took the card and resisted the urge to exclaim 'Awesome!' with the full force of his voice because, well, this was Saylen's class anyway, and he didn't want to get any sort of attention. Not when he needed to return a certain creature.

But this was awesome, he got a DINOSAUR! A DINOSAUR! Well, if you took this muggle creature as a dinosaur, that is. At least he was sure it looked like one.

First things first. Treyen got up and only retrieved some paper and paint (there was some glue he picked up) because almost instantly he thought of making his creature not too much like a look-a-like, but like a puzzle kind. So, all he'll be needing was the few things he took. There. All explain.

Er, yeah, he also took a pair of scissors, because he wasn't mastering the Diffindo spell too well and if he was going to end up doing it the Muggle way, then why not start with it and save some time? Yeah, brilliant ideas Treyen had.

Now, let's begin. He didn't want to start cutting the paper without following something that may give form to the frilled dragon...instead, he drew the silhouette of it (well, the tail on one paper, the body on the other, and the head...well, he didn't draw that, because it was going to be made differently) but, yeah, he drew on the paper and once he thought he had it right (puzzle-wise) he took the pair of scissors, the pink pair of scissors, and began to cut, slowly but very accurately.

The tail was sort of done. And the body took a bit more time, especially since he had to make sure that the mirrored side actually looked good. The Huffie boy couldn't fixate any of those pieces, since this was all puzzle-like then it wouldn't work, but the cuts that could put them together were nicely done. He was crafty. That's why he managed to make that skateboard once Zookara gave him instructions. Treyen decided to start on painting the tail and the body all green, that way it'll dry while he made the frilled collar and the head. He still knew the spell to dry stuff faster, but he'll use when absolutely necessary.

Aha. He painted stuff. And now he was focusing and cutting up the frilled collar. This was easy, the tough part was to make the thing with a puzzle piece at the bottom. He sort of managed. Sort of. Perhaps if one treated the fake!creature without delicacy then it might fall off. Either way, the head was made simply by gluing a bunch of paper and just took it in his hand trying to make the ideal shape for it, from what little he remembered.

Once that was done, the boy painted the head green and set it aside while it dried a bit and then started to paint the collar with green, yellow and brown. Yeah, he wasn't giving it rainbow colors either, he was keeping it all serious.

Won't you look at that? He was almost done. It had taken a lot of time, mind you, but all the needed was to dry off whatever was left wet of the painting (and he did so with his wand -which, by the way, got stained with paint-) and then placed the puzzle together.

Smart boy.

"Professor, I believe I'm done" he said, with a nod, giving one final look at the card before placing it in front of the fake!creature (frilled dragon).

"Also, I believe I have something that may belong to you" he said the bit on a whisper, he sort of didn't want her to hear...

When she had finished painting on the nose, paws, eyes and other stuff that this animal should have. She glued on the whiskers and the long, fluffy white ears. Then when she had finished she stood back and admired her work. It was a bit sloppy, but it wasn't bad...Then she raised her hand and said "Professor, I'm done! What do I do now?"

SPOILER!!: Eino's Creature Card

Eino flipped his card and read the description of his creature. It sounded abominablel! Its long neck and strong tongue was to reach smaller creatures AND EAT THEM! Its long legs to step on little creatures AND KILL THEM! And it was HUUUUUUUUGE!!! He walked back to his seat with a my-creature-could-totally-eat-yours attitude and began to prepare his working station. He gathered some materials and other utensils to help him make his creation.

Hmmm, let's see... Eino thought as he examined his selection. To emphasize the monstrousness of his creature he thought he should use dark colors, like black, gray and brown, and some red on its mouth to seem as if it had been eating. Clay seemed like a good choice, and it was brown-ish. He took some and began to mold the creature's torso, then four thinner and longer ones as the creature's legs, and one long and thicker one for the creature's neck. To make them stick together he used wires to connect all the parts. Then, he took some black playdough and made about twenty small dots that he would place all over the creature as its patches. He also used the playdough to make its two little and dangerous horns. For the creatures hair he used cotton, giving it hair from its head to a tail. Next, he used two small buttons as the creature's eyes. Finally, he created its tongue out of red playdough and smeared some red paint on its mouth. Ta-da!

He still wasn't sure what his creature was, whether magical or non-magical, in fact, but he was proud of his creation. He looked around and looked at the other student's creatures, but none of them looked as threatening as his. He thought about giving it a name, but he realized that a name would only make it seem less dangerous.

With the creature card in her right hand and the ingredients that she needed in her work desk. Freya was torn between using Clay or flannel? She was in deep thought trying to picture the creature in her mind with that two ingredients. After a few minutes thinking, she decided to use the blue flannel instead the Clay. First thing first, she drew a fish pattern in the blue flannel with her quill. Then she cut the pattern with a scissors carefully so she wouldn't made a mistake. After she was finished cutting the pattern, she sewed the fish flannel the muggle. She sewed it here and there until she was finished with her creature. For the finishing part she glued eyes into the creature and she was done.

SPOILER!!: Foaila

Baht-ley - The Sweetest - TEAM 947!

SPOILER!!: Melanie's Card

So… first came the head! Melanie set her supplies on the ground as she sat down, but immediately picked up the tan clay. She began rolling it around in her hands and squishing it through her fingers. The first actual shape she formed was the shape of the head, but with no lips, eyes or nose yet. That would come later.

After she molded her head Melanie started to work on the body. She made the body of a lion, big and strong. The legs looked a little pathetic, but… whatever. Melanie was no sculptor. She did hope it was at least recognizable as a lion's body, though. Like the head, the body was a rather bland tan color, but ideas were already running through her head on how to fix that. With little difficulty Melanie stuck the head and the body of her creature together with a sticking charm.

Then she moved onto the tail. From what she gathered from the card, it was the tail of a scorpion. The one she made for her creature was a little small because if she made it any bigger it would tip her disproportionate creature over, but Melanie did her best to get the general look right.

She stuck the tail on the back of the lion body and took a second to admire her work. It didn't look quite right, though. In her eyes, the tan clay she'd created her creature from looked much too bland. It needed some color!

Melanie chose a bright golden shade of yellow and a big paint brush from the craft supplies she'd carried over to her log. Humming absentmindedly to herself, she began to coat the clay in paint, giving it two even coats of the sunny paint. By the time she finished the entire model was covered in it. She dried the paint quickly with a heating spell. Melanie liked the way it looked better, but it still didn't bear resemblance to any sort of animal yet. She needed to add some finishing touches to her creature.

She would start with mane to go with the lion body. Melanie set aside the paint and the brush she'd been using in exchange for a (disappointingly empty) baking cup and a pair of scissors. Working quickly, she cut a hole out of the middle and trimmed the sides a bit, until it remotely resembled a lion's mane. She picked up her brush once more and painted until it was the same yellow color of the rest of her creature before sticking it to the head of her creature.

...Her faceless creature. A face. Hm. That could be important.

Melanie referred to her card again, scanning over the last line over a few times. A very distinguished face, not unknown to man... So... that meant it had a man's face, right? Maybe?

It was worth a try.

She set the scissors, the bigger paintbrush and the paint down and snatched up some white and black paint and a smaller paintbrush. Carefully, Melanie painted on a slightly malicious looking human-like face, complete with eyebrows, eyes, a tiny nose and a mouth.... with fangs!

When she finished the face, Melanie sat back and looked at her creation. She realized she was missing something... Well, a few things actually.

Sigh. What were a lions paws without claws? And what was a scorpion's tail with no stinger? Doing a mental face palm, Melanie set her creature on the ground and began to gather up all her supplies. She marched back over to the box and dumped them back in unceremoniously. Then, after a little rooting around, she pulled some toothpicks from the craft box.

When she returned to her seat Melanie didn't waste and time breaking them apart and sticking some into the clay that made up the claws and one into the tip of the scorpion tail. Once she finished she eyed her creature up and down, a look of realization forming her face as she recognized it.

"It's a manticore..."
she mumbled to herself, smiling slightly. Melanie thought it looked much too cute to be a ferocious bloodthirty manticore. That was just her opinion, though. Hopefully Saylen would think differently.

Letting out a tiny sigh, Melanie wiped the back of her hand against her forehead, successfully smearing a good amount of paint across her face. Absolutely oblivious, she sat there holding her manticore and staring off into space as she waited on further instruction.

SPOILER!!: RAWWWWWR!

Super Slytherin Buddy | | ⅓ She-Snake Trio | | a normal girl with normal knees

As she got to an area that was away from the others, the Slytherin pulledo ut her wand and pointed it towards the clay before saying "Aguamenti." She didn't need all that much water, just enough to get the clay working. Mwaha!

Rolling up her sleeves, Evelyn stared at the wet clay for a moment before sighing. Yes, this was...well, she wouldn't be doing this again anytime soon if ever. Before she could back out and go for a safer and...cleaner...project, Evelyn dug her hands in the clay and tried to soften it a bit more, mixing the water into it as well. The squishy noises, it was so gross!!

Grimacing, she split the mound of clay in half and split one half into two more pieces so she had three altogether, two considerably smaller than the third. Right! Taking one of the smaller pieces, she rolled it into a ball before shaping it as the stomach and neck part of her creature. Which, definitely proved a bit more tough than what she was expecting this to turn out to be. She had no clay skills. The clay did not want to sit properly!

Scowling at the noticeable fingerprints all over the slightly made clay creature, the Slytherin set the thing on the ground when it was at least decent enough that it looked like the stomach and neck. Picking up the second smallish piece, which wasn't all that small to begin with, the Slytherin tried to mold it into the head of the creature, meaning the eyes, shape of the face, mouth, nose, and anything else of importance, but…well it looked, nothing like it should be. It was the thought that counts right? Or maybe that saying only worked with gifts…

Subconsciously shrugging at her own opinions, she SLAPPED the head onto the clay neck/body and slowly took her hands off of it. It, it stayed! GOOD! She didn’t need the head rolling off randomly. Then it’d be a headless creature and have to join the annoying headless hunt thingy if it ever came back as a ghost. Well, that was an interesting thought. She didn't remember seeing any animal ghosts in Hogwarts. Was that even possible to happen?

Picking up the larger pile of clay, her hands starting to ache from molding these things into the creature's limbs, she broke another piece off and stretched, rolled, poked the piece into what looked like a long…stick thing. It was supposed to be the arm! Meh. At least have to make the hand, foot thing, look webby. MWa! Smooshing the end piece to the side of the body, so it'd stay, Evelyn stared at it for a moment before deciding that it was actually going to be good and WILL stay. Breaking another piece off of the giant clay beast thing next to her, she rolled and stretched that into another arm before slapping it on the other side of her semi-made model. She didn't care that it was considerably smaller than the other arm! She wasn't going to try and fiddle with it when it obviously didn’t want to be perfect. Pffft.

Glancing around at all the others, molding another piece of clay into the leg of her creature, her eyes trailed over to Josh for a moment before moving back to what she was doing. Distractions weren’t what she needed. With the two legs attacked, making sure the feet were webbed enough, she started working on the small horns before sticking those on its head as well. Hehe, deformed monkey thing. Hmm, maybe she should add teeth? Digging in her sleeve for the card that she had picked up, the Slytherin growled in frustration when she remembered that her hands were completely dirty; which meant, she smeared stuff all over her card so it was unreadable, except, for a few words which was nice. Hmm yes, she was supposed to add teeth. Breaking off a piece of one it’s horns, she tore those into smaller and smaller pieces before making them into 'sharp little teeth' and adding it to the things demented smile.

Standing up, the fourth year moved over to the boxes and dug through them, having remembered that there were shiny things in one of them. HA! Here we are. Little plastic things that looked like gems. Taking the ruby looking one, she went back over and…meh. Her creation looked horrible. However, she didn’t want to stick this thing on the model's head for fear that it'll make the head fall off. "Duro." She said, creating a small jabbing motion to the clay creature with her wand. Going to have to take a few hours to clean that, now won’t she. As the model creature turned to stone, she placed a sticking charm on the back of the FAKE ruby gem and stuck that in the middle of the things forehead.

Aaand, for the final touches....with one more flick of her wand, the rock creature turned a dark, ugly, green. Except for the ruby thing on it's forehead. That was still red. It...it was supposed to be a Clabbert. "PROFEESSSOOOR!" she yelled out, smirking and cringing at the annoying sound she made her voice do. Hehe, well, it was the end of the year! "My Christmas creature rock is done." Red and green...

...Christmas-y! Could she tell what it was? Without the ruby gem that was supposed to be the pustule on it's forehead, heck, even Evelyn didn't know what it was! And she was the one that made it! However, it did have a lovely name. Raiden. Teehee. No one would understand though. They had to be there in potions class to get it. *shifty*
