The sun is setting and soon the grounds will be bathing in the half-moonlight. Oh, did Professor Saylen forget to mention that about half of the lesson would be conducted in semi-darkness? Well, too bad. For you.
Maybe you should've re-read the announcement.
The weather is still rather cold at this time of year, so you'd better have some warm clothes on, and a hat plus mittens, perhaps. There's a bonfire in the middle of the area, where the classes are held, which will keep you warm as you sit around it on the log benches. So, come on, take a seat and wait for the class to start - Professor Saylen is pacing around with a bluebell flame in the palm of her hand, waiting for the arrival of...students.
OOC: Sure, sure, chat a little, why don't you? Just don't go overboard. Seriously.
Ohhh no. No way. Never in a million years. She was NOT stepping into that forest and looking for giant spiders. Not happening. NO.
Whyyy did she have to come today? Why couldn't she have just sat in the common room by the lovely warm fire, instead of freezing her butt off surrounded by her worst nightmare? Because she liked the subject, that's why. Although that was beginning to wear off very quickly.
Giving Diggy a dirty look as he stared at her, Sarah suddenly turned her head and listened to what Saylen was saying. If she was going to be here, she had to conquer this. HAD to try. However scared she was.
Gingerly she got up from her seat, and walked over to the fake spiders they had to practice on. All the while keeping her front firmly towards the one in the teachers hand. She may not have been looking at it, but she sure as Merlin was not going to be the victim of a surprise attack!
Grabbing the toy quickly, Sarah edged back to where she'd come from and placed it on the ground in front of her feet. Sitting back down, she took out her wand and practised the movement before saying the spell. "Arania Exumai!" She said it with such force, and determination, that the fluffy thing shot backwards and dangerously close to the fire. Fist pumping with happiness, Sarah grinned. Shocking spiders could be fun....If she didn't faint first.

Whaaaaaaaat?!?!?!
They were going into the forest? The forbidden forest?
Was she crazy?! Did she not know why it was forbidden? Arya wasn't goin in there. Nope. She loved spiders, but not that much. SHE was more than satisfied with the one in her hand, the one that couldn't kill her, and would be staying out here when they went into the forest.
It was already decided.
Now to just tell the professor of her plans. Hm. That wasn't gonna be too easy. Surely she would be upset by her decision, probably wouldn't tell Arya her middle name either.
Pushing aside all thoughts of the forest, she skipped over a picked up a practice spider. Cute they were. She placed her cute spider a good distance away from her her bench before taking a seat, wand already twirling in hand.
She practiced drawing an eight on its side repeatedly. It was possible she started to have a bit of fun with it and started over exaggerating the eight. And maybe she pretended that her wand was the handle to rainbow streamers. Maybe.
When she had the wand movement down, she repeated the incantation until she felt comfortable saying it. Now time to practice.
Preforming the wand movement, this time she paired it with the incantation as well. "Arania Exumai." A satisfied smile crossed her face as she watched the silvery mist shot out of her wand and knock the purple spider back. Sweeet.

Kurumi retrieved her plushie spider from the feet of the professor and gave her an awkward smile as she did. Rushing back to her station, she repeated the wand movement and incantation a few times trying to control how much power she put into it. She didn’t want to send the little guy flying off in some crazy direction…or hit someone in the face.
"Arania Exumai!" she said softly as the spider shot back only a few inches. OK, now to try and shoot it a little further back. She looked around for some sort of target…AHA! There was a small basket over in the corner. Kurumi took aim with her wand again and, wish a slightly exaggerated wand movement, yelled "Arania Exumai!" again and the little plush spider went shooting across the classroom, hitting a few people in the head, bouncing on someone’s desk, and toppled right into the basket. Kurumi nearly jumped out of her seat, but ended up hitting her knees on the table. That was probably going to leave a bruise.
She began to waddle over to the basket to retrieve her spider. As she passed by the professor, she turned to her and meekly spoke. “Professor…are we really going into the Forbidden Forest…today?”
The expression on Kurumi’s face was some strange mixture of excitement and fear…not even she was sure which one she was more.

Roxxy sat on her long next to the bonfire and examined the acromantula in Professor Saylen's plan from a safe distance. Spider's were scary! That was a fact and the young lion wasn't going to get near one if she could prevent it. Oliver's spider had caused her to get chills all over her body so what wouldn't this giant acromantula do? Gulping Roxxy raised her hand to answer the question "The acromantula's are native to Borneo and also inhabit the Forbidden forest here at school like many other's have said before me."
Hearing Oliver ask if he could actually hold the acromantula Roxxy shot him a long look wondering if he was thinking straight. Professor Maya's spider may not be as domesticated as his pet so Oliver was taking a BIG risk.

All the color drained from Diggy's face at Oliver's question. He could feel himself working up for a right fit if that spider came any closer to him. If Oliver knew what was best for him and the entire class he would put his hand down and let Professor Saylen get on with the lesson. No one could throw a fit like Diggy. Not even Paris.
Oliver was asking for trouble and if Professor Saylen gave him that spider he was going to get it.

Lip reading wasn't always her best skill, but she made out what he said to her, giving him a nod and thumbs up in response. Could hardly shout across at him - Nooo, I'm not. There is a freaking BIG SPIDER in the vicinity! - She'd sound like a cissy, and after fainting it was best to avoid anything that would make her look worse.
Of course the sight of Diggy sat next to him did nothing for her mood, it just made her growl a little more under her breath. Bet he enjoyed the show.
Someone knock her out this time. Please? It would stop her running away. She had to do this for her NEWTS, otherwise there was no chance that Sarah would have continued in this lesson. Much less with this teacher. From the concern she showed about the welfare of the champions in the TriWizard thing, you'd think she would have cared that someone had fainted in her class.
Apparently not.
Nice of you to join us again.
Believe me, lady, I wish I hadn't. Wrinkling her nose, Sarah edged backwards and pulled Trixie and Lori with her. None of them liked the spider, so a safe distance was advisable.
Then again, she had to TRY and do something worthwhile in this lesson. Where did they come from? Gulp."Forests," she mumbled, still not looking. "And you won't find me there," another whisper.
As Lori hid behind her, Sarah stretched out a hand to put around her friends back, contorting her shoulder in the process. It wasn't comfortable, but then she knew how her fellow Huffie felt.
A small snort escaped her when Lori mentioned a bin, which she tried to disguise as a cough. It was a good suggestion. Really it was. Why couldn't that be the answer?
WAS HE OUT OF HIS EVER LOVING MIND?!
Sarah's mouth dropped open as Oliver asked to hold it. He...WANTED to hold an eight legged nightmare? This just confirmed her deep fears about the boy. He was nuts. Official. Rubber stamped. Nuts.
"Welll, I..ummm. Don't come near me with it, if you do." Or I shall be forced to hex you. Yes I will.
Oliver could just about feel the people around him eyeing him when he asked to hold the spider. He glanced at Roxxy, giving her a smile when he saw her expression; the nerves were just about radiating off little Diggy who was still hiding behind him; and Sarah started to look a little green around the gills again.
Hehehe!
Awesome.
He merely raised a brow at Sarah's request. Meh.. they would see wouldn't they?

He looked back at Saylen, not quite expecting that response. He pouted a little and shook his head. “No.. no.. professor.” As if he would grass on Digzy for prodding him in the ribs.
He raised his eyebrows, confused by her next question. “Um.. that's kinda why I asked you, professor.”Strange hot woman. A simple 'yes' or 'no' would have been the normal reply. Watching the kids get up around him to get a stuffed spider and practice the protection spell, Oliver thought he had better join in too, so he stood, and slinked over to the box of stuffed spiders, selecting one at random and returning to near Diggy. He eyed his spider and aimed his wand, closing one eye. "Arania Exumai!" He said doing the sideways figure of eight the way the professor had demonstrated.
POOF!

And spidey was nothing but a pile of fluff.
Awesome. He let out a dirty cackle and went to get another spider to have another attempt. He didn't want to end up blowing up one of the Acromantula now did he? That would be rather upsetting.

Sometimes being small came in handy.
Like when you needed to hind behind your uncle because a crazy Mexican lady is being brandy with a spider. And you're scared to death of spiders. That is a good time to be small.
That is unless the person you are hiding behind is insane and has a deep love affair with spiders.
Diggy was trying to keep himself from having a right fit, but it was hard. He was totally, honestly really scared of spiders. Maybe not as scared as he was of tomatoes and ketchup. Thinking about that made him glare at Oliver's back as he went to get a toy spider. He inched away as his uncle returned with the toy spider.
Diggy was practicing the spell just not with a toy spider. He was not going to touch one of those things. He fell off the log as Oliver's spider went POOF.
He coughed and waved his hand in front of his face to dispel the spider dust floating about. "I want Oliver in my group." Diggy declared.

" professor do they hunt by thermal or by the movement.I know some spiders have special hairs that help detect movement if they hunt by thermal could we mask our thermal signature?"
"Good question. It is true that some spiders use their hairs... But the Acromantula is not an ordinary species. It was bred for specific needs - such as protecting treasure - many years ago. But why use hair when they can use their eight eyes. It's more efficient, but they do combine their assets. They are spiders after all." Make sense?

The lad started to chuckle as the sound echoed within the suit of armor. And nothings gonna get through this sucker. he thought gleefully as he gave a few light raps on his helmet "BRING IT!"
Salander watched the Professor perform the spell on the Spiderdoll. "Cool, wonder if it just works for spiders?" he murmured. With great effort he stood up, and clanked his way down to the front to get himself the small practice dummy, then clanked his way back to his place. As he started to practice the wand movement, something occurred to him about the Professor's last question "Professor Saylen, could it be possible that the figure 8 stroke could be because the Acromantula has 8 eyes? And this spell either blinds it or knocks it back?"
What...was...that noise??
With one eyebrow raised, Maya turned towards the clanking. Armoured-boy. Oh, and he had a question? "Actually, yes, that could be it." Hehe.

"Professor! Is the wand motion a figure eight because you only have eight seconds to run away before it rights itself up?"
Guessing games. Destiny FAILED at them.

He...blew up his toy. Yeah, good reason not to let him hold the tarantula.

Everyone seemed to be doing quite well with the spell. Fast learners they were. "Very good, all of you. I'm sure we will have no trouble fending off the Acromantulas if needed be."
"Now, please take a moment to leave everything that might shine, clank," at this she looked at Armour-boy, "or make any noise that could attract the Acromantulas to us." This is quite obvious, right? "Put only on what you can be flexible in," incase they need to run and not waddle out of danger, "and do NOT - I repeat... do not illuminate your wands once we are inside." "It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."
Alice took her eyes off of her toy spider at the sound of Professor Saylen addressing the class. Ooh...they were getting to go into the Forbidden Forest soon! Alice wondered if they would actually end up running into the acromantulas...from pictures that she had seen, they were huge. Not to mention while Alice felt that she could pack a punch magically (or physically) if she needed to, she was still under five feet tall. Hmmm...
Alice let out a little chuckle as she basically told Salander that he was going to have to remove all of his protective armor. Poor Salander...although all that clanking in the dead quiet Forbidden Forest was not going to be hard to miss...

She was going to take them into the spiders den. THEY COULD GET EATEN! Did this woman not care? There was a reason they weren't allowed in that forest - THEY COULD GET EATEN! Weird teacher. Very weird.
Sarah tightened her scarf some more around her neck. Maybe she was hoping to cut off the blood supply so she would faint again, and wouldn't have to go. But she just didn't want it to fall off. Then there was the checking of all the other things she was wearing. No jewellery. No shiny stuff. Nothing that would restrict her running. She had a feeling she'd be doing alot of that.
Taking one last glance down at the fluffy spider she'd not long ago hexed, Sarah fixed a stern expression on her face. She could do this. She wouldn't faint. And she wouldn't be EATEN.

Panicking. PANICKING! Fending off the acromantulas? They were....they were going to be FENDING them OFF!? Professor was insane. Crazy. She should be in St. Mungos!
The Slytherin was feeling sick. Clammy and sick. Normally Evelyn didn't mind dark forests and such, but that's because she knew there were no acromantulas in them. THIS one though!? She didn't know that! She wouldn't have ventured so far inside it in her first year then. Or that one lesson they had on thestrals! She could have DIED!

And . . . people were panicking again. Grayson just looked around at the others as Professor Saylen spoke again about the class finally heading into the Forest, shrugging a little. She wasn't about to leave her cold weather stuff behind. Her parka, knit hat, etc. And besides, she could run in it just as easily as she coudl when not in it all. Not to mention, her boots probably weren't quite as obvious as her Converse would have been, with the white parts. She kinda wanted to stuff her fuzzy spider toy in her pocket, though. The only thing preventing her was not knowing if the professor would allow them to keep the toys, and she didn't want to interrupt and ask.
Salander was obviously going to have some issues, though. She hadn't missed the fact he'd been sort of singled out during the little instructions. Armor was definitely going to attract attention. She was tempted to go over and say she'd help protect him, since she thought she was pretty good at the spell they'd learned. Or help get the armor off, except that seemed even weirder.

No trouble fending them off?! OK, this woman and Dragon Lady had to be in cahoots. It was one thing to use a spell on an adorable plush spider...but when the real thing came along...Kurumi had a feeling she was going to freeze up.
Kurumi checked her school robes and decided it would be best to leave her long black robe behind. That would most definitely get caught on something. She threw her black sweater on and dusted off her dark grey pants. Holding her wand, but trembling, she waited for further instructions.

Really, was Maya doing the right thing in letting these students tremble themselves near the Acromantulas? She was starting to get worried for the creatures. One unfamiliar sound and all the spiders will get stunned by the scared kids. Sigh. And yeah, she totally hid her tarantula in his home incase someone got too twitchy.

Joking? Again?
The Mexicana stepped closer to the questioning fellow, staring him straight in the eyes. "I never joke about these things, Mister Simpson." Or, maybe she was. Could you tell if she was?
But, enough of this - they had work to do. They were almost in complete darkness now. "Allright everyone, it is time to move out." Like a platoon. "Everyone ready, I assume." Not a question. "Follow me and keep close." Producing her wand again, she swished it over the palm of her hand and another bluebell flame appeared. This would be enough to light their way.
And off she marched towards the edge of the Forbidden Forest...assuming they would all follow.

Evelyn was frozen stiff in place, unmoving. She wasn't going in there. She wasn't. Nu uh.
There was nooooooo way she was going to go acromantula hunting with the crazy professor. She probably ordered all of them to attack on sight! She wanted to see them fight and struggle to the death! This was so not helping her panic attack!
MEEP! Professor was gettting awaaaaaay! COME BACK!

"Put only on what you can be flexible in," incase they need to run and not waddle out of danger, "and do NOT - I repeat... do not illuminate your wands once we are inside." At this Maya basically glared at everyone.

Salander grinned. The lad felt like he was floating up in the clouds when Professor hottie Saylen said he got it right.....
Which of course was short-lived, because her next statement got his tummy dropping to the bottom of his tin-man shoes.
Is she telling him to get rid of his armor? But they were going into the Forbidden Forest! He was Dugbog teether last time, now he was gonna put himself out for Acromantula dinner? He started to quiver inside his metal suit, the confidence he had earlier had gone with the setting sun. And to think he made such an effort of stealing borrowing armour to keep himself bite free for this class.
Maybe he could just hide amongst the bushes and pretend to have gone into the Forest when the class returns... That is if any of them returns at all. But as the lad took a look at the darkness that was slowly settling in he realized that somewhere out there the Groundskeeper could be making his rounds.
And with that, the Slytherin lad scrambled out of his metal suit and went after the class.

Sigh. Then why was he so talk-happy? These students confused Maya to no end. The boy spoke again but the Mexicana simply looked at him with concentration and a slight furrowed eyebrow. "That's quite interesting, Mister Greenwood, but it doesn't convince me to let you hold him." Boo-hoo.
He...blew up his toy. Yeah, good reason not to let him hold the tarantula.
Group? "Who said anything about a group? The best way you will learn is to explore these creatures all by yourselves." Ofcourse, Maya wasn't going to let them go alone. She was strict, but not the devil. Hehe.

Oliver was aware of his sentence getting gradually quieter and more hesitant and slow as Professor Saylen frowned and looked at him like he was asking something completely mental. His mouth curled downwards into a small pout when she said in so many words that, no, he could not hold the tarantula.
Pfft.. Like, whateverrr.
But he soon cheered again when it came to zapping toy spiders. This was well fun.. and after two or three more attempts resulting in nowt but spider fluff, he eventually managed to make the fluffy creature shoot backwards like it was supposed to and not explode into dust.
Hearing Diggy, he grinned, chuffed that the lad saw him as an asset with his rather erratic magic. As they began to make their way towards the Forbidden Forest he caught up with the lad who was clearly terrified by the prospect of meeting the Acromantula. “Hey.. there's nothing to worry about you know? Professor Saylen might be a little weird but she's not gonna let any of us become spider food.” He twirled his wand in his fingers and smiled. “But I'll stick with you, man, if you want me to.” He patted the smaller boy on the shoulder reasuringly. Yeah, cos family stuck together, right?

Whaaaaat?!
She was heading in......already?
That was all the warning she got!?!?!?!
Wand in hand and bag beside the bench she had occupied, Arya hurried to wrap her scarf tight around her and pulled her beanie down before sprinting behind the professor. She would keep her safe, right?

Dianna already prepared by not having to bring anything inside her pockets.
Off she followed the Professor and her other classmates wishing that she could light up her wand.
Looking around he finds Em and the rest of his friends the one he knows he can help cover if the spiders get spooked.he turns is winter cloak on side out os the black lining is the only thing that can be seen and reties his Hi-Tec Boots tucking tucking his pant legs in to his boot so nothing could scurry up his leg and putting his wand in his wrist holster "ready when you are professor"
