The sun is setting and soon the grounds will be bathing in the half-moonlight. Oh, did Professor Saylen forget to mention that about half of the lesson would be conducted in semi-darkness? Well, too bad. For you.
Maybe you should've re-read the announcement.
The weather is still rather cold at this time of year, so you'd better have some warm clothes on, and a hat plus mittens, perhaps. There's a bonfire in the middle of the area, where the classes are held, which will keep you warm as you sit around it on the log benches. So, come on, take a seat and wait for the class to start - Professor Saylen is pacing around with a bluebell flame in the palm of her hand, waiting for the arrival of...students.
OOC: Sure, sure, chat a little, why don't you? Just don't go overboard. Seriously.
Wooow! I didn't see Michael thought of forbidden forest too :D

Diggy rolled his eyes at the first year Hufflepuff. Always thinking they know everything. And they were going to teach someone something. But he kept his mouth shut. He didn't want to lose points telling off a know-it-all and really knows nothing first year. If need be Professor Saylen would handle him. Diggy just didn't want her coming any closer with that bloody spider.

Carpe Diem: Make today extraordinary! WOOT WOOT! GRYFFINDOR!!
Sophia wanted to scream at the sound of giant spiders. She was a huge arachnophobic. "Maybe, they live in the forest, because it is dark and damp." she said. "A good place for insects to swarm." she said. "And there are lots of food sorces in the forest." she said. Ick. She hated spiders.
Emmaleigh sat in the back of the group, watching everyone freak out about the tarantula. She shook her head, what was wrong with these people. Everyone was freaking out, and Em sat there hoping to hold the creature. Raising her hand slowly, she said, "Aren't they from Southeast Asian Rainforest?"
Dianna didn't know what was the big deal with the spider. But then if that was a snake she wouldn't have fainted (like the other girl did) too.
"Acromantula's are commonly found in the rainforests of Southeast Asia. If I am not mistaken in Borneo." she said as she lowered her hand.

They were going to be dinner? WHAT?!
Demarcus had only heard half of what Professor Saylen had said. He was still freaking out about the creature that the professor was holding. The boy did not like any type of spider, no matter how pretty they looked. Things that had a million eyes, too many legs, and huge fangs were creepy. Whoever said those things made fantastic pets were a bunch of lunatics that needed to be taken to St. Mungo’s immediately.
“Acromantulas originally inhabited Borneo,” he said with a raised hand, his eyes not looking in the direction of the tarantula. “They can be found in dense forests around the world today, though. I’ve heard that there was a colony living in the Forbidden Forest.” How they ended up in there, the boy did not know. But as long as they stayed in there and didn’t eat him, Demarcus wasn’t going to complain … much.
Inhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaale of deep breath. "Sileeeeeeeeeeeeeence!" Oh, poor poor tarantula. It moved a bit in her palm when all the screaming began and it definitely moved when Maya bellowed. "I will not have people shouting in my class!"
Eh, someone fainted? But, why?
The Mexicana's dark eyes fell on the girl, but she ignored her...for now. "You!" Pointing to ALL the screamers. "Treat this creature with respect. Your screams will not help you and it will definitely not put the spider to ease." Oh, and most importantly. "If anyone else screams, I will take points."
"Now. If I may continue." She wasn't asking permission. "This is infact a Tarantula. Some of you mentioned that it resembled an Acromantula. Indeed it does. We shall be learning more about Acromantulas this evening." She squinted at them all. They'd better not whine. "Who can tell me what classification the Ministry has given these magical spiders?" Hmmmmmmmmm?

Freya didn't mean to scream but that spider made her to scream. Maybe if she stay still and shut her mouth the spider won't go near her, right?Yeah that would be a very good idea. Hah?Respect? She would give respect to the spider if that things don't come any closer to her. Please..Please..Don't make that spiders any where near me..!!
Freya gulped when she heard that they will learn about Acromantula today. Freya raised her hand "Umm..they *gulp* come from..umm..the rainforests of Southeast Asia, particularly Borneo. Professor." she said lowering her hand. Thank Merlin they lived far far away from here.

Freya heard a Hufflepuff boy suggested that they should visited the forbidden forest to see the creature. "Are you out of your mind?Do you want to make yourself a dinner to that..that..thing?" That boy was insane..!!
Emmy raised her hand, and said, "Acromantula live in Borneo, professor - but isn't there a colony in the Forbidden Forest?" she asked nervously, looking towards the darkening treeline as though expecting them to crawl out and eat the class... She shuddered, and shuffled a little closer to the fire - and Treyen.
He almost fell off his log when she produced a big spider in her hand. He wasn't going to scream. But he shrank behind Oliver all the same. Spiders made his skin crawl. But he wasn't going to scream or faint.
But he did snicker when Sarah fainted. Served her right. Albeit he was still hiding behind his uncle, but he snickered just the same.
His attention was pulled from Professor Saylen and that creepy spider in her hand to Sal. He was dressed like one of the knights in the corridors. And Diggy had a suspicion he knew where Sal got the armor from. If Diggy liked the boy he would have asked if he could have crawled in there with him. It seemed a safe place from that spider in Saylen's hand. And if she got any closer to him he was going to scream like a girl and crawl into Oliver's lap. And he frankly wouldn't care who was watching either.
Oliver was aware of his nephew creeping further and further behind him as the lesson progressed. The older Snake smirked just a leetle bit, amused that the lad was acting like one of the girls... this was like potions all over again.. except the spider was way less scary than Lafay. “Alright there, Digzy, Digz?” He asked turning to look at the smaller boy, smirrrk still in place on his face.

Grayson had gotten oddly excited when it seemed they were going to be talking about Acromantulas. Even though she'd been cut down a little by Professor Saylen's shooting down her original theory, Acromantulas were cooler than salamanders or ashwinders. Although salamanders reminded her of Salander, which was kind of awesome in itself. But back to the topic at hand, and she didn't see why people were freaking out over the tiny tarantula.
"Acromantulas are found in Borneo, but as Finn, Demarcus and some others have said, there's been reported to be a colony living deep in the Forbidden Forest too. Professor Hagrid, before he was Harry Potter's professor and everything, bred the first one and set it loose, in the stories. I don't think anyone's gone in there lately to find out if any of them are still there though," she said, raising her hand and narrowly avoiding babbling. It wasn't her fault she could talk about the old stories for a long time, but the professor probably didn't want to hear it all right now.

Eeeeeep!
That spider was AWESOME and Destiny wanted to hold it! She doubted the Professor would let her hold it, though. She would probably think it was some kind of trick to squash the thing. But that was just gross, considering how big the thing was.
Yuck!
Hearing the question about where those creatures could be found, she listened to everyone answer. Of course they would all give the obvious answers like the Forbidden Forest and Borneo, but Destiny knew of another place they could be found. She raised her hand and waved it around a bit. "My grandmother's basement. She has loads of stuff down there so I'm sure you could find an Acromantula."
Hehe, she couldn't wait for summer break now. Destiny had some 'xplorin to do!

Heeheehee! What a GIRL.
He poked Oliver in the ribs. "Never you mind how I'm doing. Just stay where you are," he whispered fiercely. Oliver was moving around too much and Diggy wanted to make sure Oliver was between him at that spider!
If Oliver didn't stop moving Diggy was going to climb on his back and that would show him. He smirked at the thought of clinging to Oliver's thin frame.

Lori eyed the Professor as Sarah started to come around, and almost immediately as Sarah sat back up, Lori darted behind her and Trixie and peered between their shoulders. Spiders. Were. NOT. Nice. And neither was this Professor. She was SCARY! Talk about the ability to give someone nightmares, and there was only a couple of things that had ever given her nightmares.

"Well, we used to have an acromantula in the Forbidden Forest, but I'm not sure that it's still there." Alice was pretty sure it had died during the war between Harry and Voldemort at Hogwarts. "However most acromantulas are native to the rainforests in Southeast Asia, specifically Borneo."

So the acting like a girl even went as far as Diggy prodding him in the ribs. ALL girls did that to him! And it annoyed THE CRAP out of him! He flinched at the unexpected pokerage. “Ow! Dude.. that's uncool, man.” He whispered, scrunching up his face. Guh.
He turned his attention back to Saylen, a mischievous smirk tugging at the corners his lips. “Professor?” He asked raising his hand. “Can I hold it, please?” He nodded at the tarantula in her palm and smiled innocently. “I'm pretty used to them. I have pet tarantula of my own.” Yep, a common Chilean Rose who would be meeting Diggy Diggy Digster in the VERY near future. Mwahaha!
Roxxy sat on her long next to the bonfire and examined the acromantula in Professor Saylen's plan from a safe distance. Spider's were scary! That was a fact and the young lion wasn't going to get near one if she could prevent it. Oliver's spider had caused her to get chills all over her body so what wouldn't this giant acromantula do? Gulping Roxxy raised her hand to answer the question "The acromantula's are native to Borneo and also inhabit the Forbidden forest here at school like many other's have said before me."
Hearing Oliver ask if he could actually hold the acromantula Roxxy shot him a long look wondering if he was thinking straight. Professor Maya's spider may not be as domesticated as his pet so Oliver was taking a BIG risk.

He hadn't poked him that hard. "Sorry," he muttered. Though he was sure he hadn't really hurt Oliver.
All the color drained from Diggy's face at Oliver's question. He could feel himself working up for a right fit if that spider came any closer to him. If Oliver knew what was best for him and the entire class he would put his hand down and let Professor Saylen get on with the lesson. No one could throw a fit like Diggy. Not even Paris.
Oliver was asking for trouble and if Professor Saylen gave him that spider he was going to get it.

Wait.. Señorita Professoro was just going to LEAVE Sarah like that? An eyebrow raised and he looked from the professor to the fainted girl, catching Trixie's death glare as he did so. He grinned at winked at her knowing fine well it would get on her nerves. And he couldn't help snorting loudly when he heard Lori directing a joke towards the unconscious Sarah. *Snort* The yellow prefect was so much like himself it was scary.
Not that he would be hiding from the spider... butcha know..
He was about to go over.. see if 'Rennervate' worked on unconscious Head Girls, but she started to come around. He watched her closely. She seemed to be alright.. although it was kinda shocking that the professor had continued the class while she lay there out for the count. He nodded at the girl, mouthing a “You Okay?” towards her.
Ehh.. she seemed fine.. albeit a wee bit grumpy.
Could you do someone damage just by staring at them hard enough? Sarah was certainly trying that with Saylen. The look of daggers as her nan would say. Until the woman looked in her direction of course, then she'd be sweetness and light. Meh.
She was now not in a good mood. Cold, achy, and with a slight headache. But she still smiled at Oliver when he caught her eye. Lip reading wasn't always her best skill, but she made out what he said to her, giving him a nod and thumbs up in response. Could hardly shout across at him - Nooo, I'm not. There is a freaking BIG SPIDER in the vicinity! - She'd sound like a cissy, and after fainting it was best to avoid anything that would make her look worse.
Of course the sight of Diggy sat next to him did nothing for her mood, it just made her growl a little more under her breath. Bet he enjoyed the show.

Someone knock her out this time. Please? It would stop her running away. She had to do this for her NEWTS, otherwise there was no chance that Sarah would have continued in this lesson. Much less with this teacher. From the concern she showed about the welfare of the champions in the TriWizard thing, you'd think she would have cared that someone had fainted in her class.
Apparently not.
Nice of you to join us again.
Believe me, lady, I wish I hadn't. Wrinkling her nose, Sarah edged backwards and pulled Trixie and Lori with her. None of them liked the spider, so a safe distance was advisable.
Then again, she had to TRY and do something worthwhile in this lesson. Where did they come from? Gulp."Forests," she mumbled, still not looking. "And you won't find me there," another whisper.

As Lori hid behind her, Sarah stretched out a hand to put around her friends back, contorting her shoulder in the process. It wasn't comfortable, but then she knew how her fellow Huffie felt.
A small snort escaped her when Lori mentioned a bin, which she tried to disguise as a cough. It was a good suggestion. Really it was. Why couldn't that be the answer?

WAS HE OUT OF HIS EVER LOVING MIND?!
Sarah's mouth dropped open as Oliver asked to hold it. He...WANTED to hold an eight legged nightmare? This just confirmed her deep fears about the boy. He was nuts. Official. Rubber stamped. Nuts.
"Welll, I..ummm. Don't come near me with it, if you do." Or I shall be forced to hex you. Yes I will.
There it was! She was going to feed him to an Acromantula! He'd better pay attention in this class, in case she decided to make him tonight's dinner for a very lucky Acromantula.
Yet.
Yes, it was happening tonight! Eek!
He keep his face neutral, though, but kept close to Fletcher just in case. "They're from Borneo, no?" he said, after raising his hand.

And what is this?? "Mister Greenwood and Miss Greengrass." Maya almost glared at the boy. "You will show your fellow students some respect aswell. There is no reason to exclaim their mental state or otherwise - stop it or Slytherin will be loosing a couple of points. You understand?"

And the Professor didn't want any more creepy ideas into her head... she would do that crazy thing just like that! Ah!

What is this? Did the students suddenly become the Professors? "Excuse you. If you are done bickering, it might interest you to pay attention to the class."Sigh.

"Thankyou for elaborating on why they might live where they live." Yes indeed.

Stare. Was her grandmother even alive, then? Hm.

Eeeep!
How would she know where you could find them? She didn't bloody go hunting for them. WHY would she? They were ugly, and she wasn't. Do the math weird Professor lady. DO THE FREAKIN' MATH! *flail*
"In a bin." S'where they should be. With the rotting cabbage and whatnot.
"Excuse you?" A perplexed Maya turned towards the young girl. Had she just heard her say what she thought she heard her say?

He turned his attention back to Saylen, a mischievous smirk tugging at the corners his lips. “Professor?” He asked raising his hand. “Can I hold it, please?” He nodded at the tarantula in her palm and smiled innocently. “I'm pretty used to them. I have pet tarantula of my own.” Yep, a common Chilean Rose who would be meeting Diggy Diggy Digster in the VERY near future. Mwahaha!
"Is there a reason you are interrupting my class, Mister Greenwood?" TWO Greenwoods? Oh, Merlin. And he wanted to hold the creature. "What makes you think I will let you?" Pffft, as IF.
She WAS going to let them all pet it, if they wanted to. But seeing the sunlight getting dimmer and dimmer, Maya decided it was time to move on. "As I said before, we will be looking closer at the Acromantulas..." How close? "...and we will be doing it soon - in the Forbidden Forest. I know you are not allowed in there, but today you'll be entering the dark woods in search for this fantastic creature."
"However, before we enter, you will need to learn a precautionary spell, incase we find ourselves in...a much more closer distance to them than usual.
The spell is called Arania Exumai. The wand movement consists of drawing an eight, on it's side, in the air – and then you simply say the incantation – Arania Exumai! Loud and clear, or you will find yourself defenseless." Geddit?
"Please take out your wands, and come pick up a practice spider, and begin. Does anyone know why the wand movement involves an eight (8)? "
OOC: The wand movement is made up, so the reason behind the 8 is totally up to you. Be creative when answering the question ; )

"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you are not."

They were going to be entering the Dark Forest? How exciting!!
Upon Professor Saylen demonstrating the precautionary spell and telling them they were going to practice it themselves, Alice took out her own wand. She quickly got up and took one of the practice spiders, which she found rather amusing, and headed back to her original seat on the log.
"Um...I'm not sure if this is a horribly obvious answer, but don't spiders have eight legs? So since the spell movement is in the shape of an eight, wouldn't that account for all eight of their legs?" Alice had a feeling this was a stunning spell, so she assumed that by having the motion be in the form of an eight, it would be stunning all eight of their legs.

He was...joking. Right? Maya didn't find it particularily funny. "You'd be amazed how creatures can be. Never underestimate them by how they look." Or you might get killed. Boo-hoo.
"Please take out your wands, and come pick up a practice spider, and begin. Does anyone know why the wand movement involves an eight (8)? "
Simon looked at the Professor he wasn't joking. "Well I'm still sure that no other spider can be as bad as a tarantula." Simon said he was sure. "Spider are so small."
Simon looked at the Professor. "Why can't we use a real spider?" He didn't like using things like this. Simon smiled at the Professor. "So what do we do now?" He had never send the spell she was using before.
And was she going to feed him to an Acromantula while in the Forest?! Oh my Gilderoy! He was soooo young to die, and he hasn't even written a letter to Miranda! Sigh.
Er, right. Calming down.
Wand out. And...what was that thing? It sure was no Acromantula. Ha. Treyen shrugged before raising his hand, "Because they have eight legs" how come they were people that had trouble walking with only two legs? They had eight, and walked just fiiiine.
Arania Exumai, no? The boy got up to pick up the practice spider.

"Thats a good idea. But not quite." Maya nodded at the girl. She liked when they got thinking.

Silly boy.
And why not a real spider?? Seriously. "Because there is no need to use it on a real spider. Arania Exumai could hurt the creatures and will only be used if extremely necessary." Like being close to becoming Acromantula dinner.
Wait, did he not know what to do?? Wasn't it obvious that they should point their wands at the toys??
The Mexicana was just about to answer, but someone else caught her attention.

Same answer there. "No, it is not because of their eight legs, Mister Lockhart. But good thinking." Yes yes.
And now back to the spell. Sigh.
Picking up a toy spider and putting it on the ground, she produced her wand from her wrist holster, and pointed it at the toy. "This is how it will work."
She made an eight in the air, "Arania Exumai!", jabbed it towards the fake creature and a silvery mist shot at the pink spider, making it shoot back at rapid speed. It now lay a few feet away on its back. "Understood? Please, begin." Yes.

Simon decided that he'd better not argue, though he was sure that he was right and nothing could be as bad as a tarantula and he was sure they should use real spiders for the experience though he wasn't going to say anything to this Professor.
Simon pick up at toy and put it on the Ground like the Professor had and then he said the spell. "Arania Exumai!" he jabbed it towards the fake creature but nothing happened. "Professor nothing happened."
