As you walk into the Charms classroom, the most noticeable difference is that all the desks have been pushed to the walls in a circular formation, leaving a wide, open area in the center of the classroom. In the back of the room, a large, white sheet is draped over--who knows what--, and whatever it is underneath shakes violently every few minutes. It's no wonder the desks have pushed far, far away from this object--whatever it may be.
Go ahead and take a seat. Professor Carlton, although not in the room right now, will be along shortly.
OOC: Class will not begin until I get in tomorrow afternoon (Oct. 4 around 5 PM EST). You may go ahead and roleplay your character coming in, but please, limit the chatter.
Hugo looked up at Cass. "Sure," he smiled and pulled out the chair from under his desk.
"Thanks" Cass answered with a smile as she set her books down on the table and sat down to the seat that he had pulled out

Kurumi, having listened to everyone else's response to the professor's question grew a bit uneasy. "P-p-professor...you don't have a dementor under that cloth do you...?" She had only read about them, but they sure did not seem like something that she ever wanted to meet. Even a boggart sounded scary...she didn't want it turning into her worst fear in the middle of the classroom...She covered her face with her textbook and tried to ignore the white mass that kept thrashing about.

As Professor Carlton had shown up to class, Grayson had turned to greet her, but then she'd seen the furry creatures darting ahead of the professor to curl up in a little pet bed at the front of the classroom. And a bright grin had appeared on her face as she saw the professor still had her ferret. Not to mention that it seemed the little baby ferret got along with the little dog, which she had to admit she hadn't really known Professor Carlton had had. But it was a good thing anyway, and momentarily made her think about Ruby and Draco. Until she finally registered the professor's statement upon arrival, and the grin faded a little. Poor baby ferret still had no name? That was sad.
And her disappointment caused her to miss answering the first question, but at the next her eyes went to the sheet thingy. Hmm. Seemed the new answers the others were giving might be accurate, but she raised her hand anyway. There were other points to be made, even if they had nothing to do with the lesson. Not really, at least. "The Patronus Charm can also be used to repel lethifolds, although not many people are around to verify that. But I think boggarts are more likely to, well, be something we'd have to face." There. She'd agreed with everyone else too. Plus there was that whole thing about lethifolds being, oh, really, really dangerous. And they lived in tropical places, which was definitely not anywhere near Hogwarts.

Dianna thought..
"How about Arania Exumai for erm..." what was that? Oh no.. Think.Think.Think.
"Oh! For Acromantula's." she finished her sentence. She heard one of her classmates ask if it was a dementor. She hoped not although it would be cool if it was a boggart. She would just have to wait.
"Excuse me professor!!!" Alex raised her hand
"A Fidelius charm could be used as a protection from the dark cretures as the place is undetectable" Alex said nervously..

Reason: Double posting in class.
Fee thought about dark creatures. Mhh..
What would she do facing one? Run away and scream? No, ridiculous.
She raised her hand.
"If it was a person i would use expelliamus", she said,"or else maybe stupor?"
Fee hoped she got what the professor wanted.

Tory thought for a while. There was only one she could really think of straight away. "Well the most commonly known one would be Riddikulus against the Boggart, right?" she said slowly.

Luna thought for a while. She was asking about charms to defend ourselves against dark creatures? And there was something mysterious hiding and shaking under a curtain? It must've been a boggart! Luna raised her hand. "We can use Riddikulus to protect ourselves against boggarts, Professor," Luna smiled.

A fire crab? Amy asked, she was sure that's what the book had said, it bad also said something about furlongs but she wasn't sure about them, and Rictursempra is the spell she finished up putting her hand down, she did LOVE charms, so much better than muggle maths

''Well a common wizard's defence against a boggart is to point a wand at the boggart and say "Riddikulus" while thinking of something very funny , then for Dementors we use the Patronus Charm to drive them away, ''Expelliarmus is a defensive spell too so we can use it, "Confundo'' is a spell that causes a person to become highly confused and many more.'' Listening to the frist Question, Patroclus took in the answers of other's before suggesting his own, "Confundus Charm can be used in a defensive manner," the boy smiled, "It would be a rather useful distraction in a duel. Also the Severing Charm, Diffindo, is a cross over spell too."
Dark Creatures? Hmmmmm
All he had was Dementors, but Patroclus had heard someone say that already.
So he just smiled!
Lexi paused as one of the students, Patroclus Hudson, answered her first question just as she was asking the second question. Not wanting to dismiss his reply, Lexi nodded in agreement then paused before moving on. It looked like Patroclus was going to say something in reply to her dark creatures question, but...maybe he'd changed his mind at the last minute. She smiled politely then turned to the next student.

Almost there…
Wait what?
Looking up, frozen in place, the Professor’s question repeated in her mind. Dark creatures, charm to defend ourselves…blah blah blah. "How about the silencing charm? They could be used on banshees right?" Could they? She couldn’t remember. Too busy trying to get the piece of paper.
"That's right," Lexi said, turning to Evelyn, who'd asked about silencing the scream of a banshee.

Now she knew how to get attention.
With a nod of her head, she stuck her hand in her pocket to make sure the parchment was still there, and it was hanging out! She stuffed it deeper inside, after giving Evelyn a look. She was probably trying to STEAL IT! Well..even if her friend did get it, Destiny had pleeeenty of copies in her bag. When was this practical part starting!?!?!
After the questions, she supposed.
"Red Caps can be stopped with Charms." she said, raising her hand.
Which Charms? Destiny had no idea.
Was Shepard passing notes? Really? Passing notes in her class? Lexi had seen Evelyn make a grab for that parchment, but Destiny had protected it at the very last minute. "Miss Shepard, I'm guessing that parchment is full of...class notes?" she questioned.
She said nothing about the red cap, although, the answer was correct. The creatures could be repelled with the use of charms.

No worries. Fletcher could think of another answer. He raised his hand.
"Dragons hafta to be controlled, professor, with like, stunners if you're trying to ride one or something." Not that he had ever considered that idea, nooooo. "And there's dugbogs, of course, like Salander said, which you have to FREEZE OFF YOUR HAND if they bite you." He was, again, not at all speaking from personal experience there. "Oh yeah, and I think we shouldn't underestimate little dark critters like the grindylow. You have to use relashio on those buggers if they get a hold of your limbs."
Again, he was most certainly NOT speaking from personal experience. Nooooo not at all.
Fletcher.
Fletcher. That boy always seemed up to something, yet--right now, Lexi couldn't out her finger on just what that might be. Just when Lexi thought that absolutely no one was going to mention the one dark creature that she'd hoped would at least be brought up once, a whole chorus of students chimed in, all supplying thought and questions about...
"Boggarts! Yes!" she said, almost too excitedly. On that note, she strolled over the shaking object beneath the sheet and pulled the sheet off, casting it the side a second later. "I've encountered a boggart in an old desk and rather than simply taking care of it myself, I decided to incorporate it into a class--about defense charms, of course."
As if on cue, the desk shook just a bit harder.
"Now, what exactly is a boggart, and why is it best to always have someone with you when you're encountering one?" she asked.
OOC: Hey, guys! *waves* Please answer just the question Lexi's asked, as she has other questions all lined up, and I'd like to prevent all of them being answered in one post. Thanks so much!
Lexi 2 raised her hand and said, "If more than one person is around it confuses the boggart as to which form it should take." She was PRETTY sure that was correct. Heh. She smiled at Lexi1 and pushed some loose hair from her face.

Well...at least it wasn't a demontor under the cloth. A boggart would probably be pretty scary too though..."A boggart is a shape-shifter that likes to hide in dark, enclosed places and takes on the form of its intended victim's worst fear..." Kurumi shuddered a little. This was going to be fun...but frightening. She hoped that everyone was afraid of fluffy white rabbits...."If you are with someone else, it will confuse the boggart and not know whose fear to shape-shift into...making it easier to defeat it."

"Well a boggart is a dark creature that can transform into ones greatest fears," Daisy said raising her hand. "It's always best to have someone around so that you can fight them off together instead of alone and tends to confuse the boggart."

A boggart has no real form, well not that anyone knows, because a bogart changes the form of something you are frightened of, like....a huge...SNAKE! She finished, she hated snakes and had just found out what form it would take oh and they hide in dark places she added before putting her hand down and why be with more than one person...so your not scared...oooh she knew this one also, becase a boggart can only take one form, the more people there the more confused it gets? She was sure that was right but she could be wrong. She hoped she wasn't though, she took a nervous glance at the cupboard and hopes she wouldn't have to do the practical, she HATED snakes, with a passion

Boggarts...
That would certainly make the sounds and rattling coming from the back of the room make sense. Simon had never encountered one himself but members of his family had...nasty creatures if you werent careful, taken by surprise and or all alone. Listening to the professor, he heard her question that seemed to match what he had been thinking himself causing the boy to raise his hand and answer again.
"Boggarts are creatures that take the form of your greatest fear," he supplied as he tried to think of the wording for the next part. "Having someone else there makes sure that if you freeze up at the sight theres still someone not effected to help banish the creature."

Ha!
What on earth was a boggart? Josh had no idea but eyeing the desk in the middle the boy was sure that he was going to meet whatever it was soon. And if it was a dark creature, Josh was going to be happy with destroying it. Dark creatures should not live!
The boy got more interested in the class as his classmates explained what a boggart was. Creatures that take the form of one's greatest fear. This sounded shivering but Josh was scared of nothing so if the boggart should face him, he had nothing to take a form of. Hehehehe.

Hugo looked up at Cass. "Sure," he smiled and pulled out the chair from under his desk.
"Hey, Alex! Long time no see."
"Hi Vienna, I am indeed," Hugo smiled wondering if he was famous or something. "I don't know," he said. "I hope something awesome," he answered to both girls.
Vienna smiled back at Hugo she thought he was as cute as she had heard but she was not interested in boyfriends she felt that at age 11 she was to young.
Seeing the professor enter the room she quickly replied "I hope so to i think this lesson is going to fun"
vienna raised her hand this she did know having encountered one in her mums wardrobe.
Boggarts are creatures that turn into what we fear the most. No one has ever seen their true form. It is best to have someone with you to perform the Riddikulus charm if you are overcome by your fear and are unable to do so

Patroclus' eyes grew wide as the desk beneath the sheet began to shake, and hard too, it seemed the Boggart really wanted to be free.
The boy had never really had to deal with his greatest fear, so he had no idea what it was, it was going to be an interesting lesson, "A boggart is a creature that is able to take the shape of one's most darkest fear, it is fear's embodiment. It is alwys best to tackle them with backup, as some people can sometimes be taken off guard by their fear and become paralyze, so the other is able to get the job done for them."
He could not help but wonder what it was he was going to be seeing......

What? Boggarts?
Boggarts...
She didn't know whether to be thankful it wasn't some tiny form of an acromantula, or afraid that it was indeed a boggart. Staring at the desk behind the others across from herself, her eyes flickered over to the Professor for a moment, disbelief evident on her face. They weren't going to like, face it one by one were they? Facing ones fear was one thing, but overcoming it in just a matter of seconds in front of a whole class!? That was another story all together...

Meh? What was THAT look for?! Pfft, she wasn't doing anything wrong.
...ish.
After the Professor said something about passing notes however, Evelyn sat up straight before leaning to the side slightly, slouching onto the desk top and holding her head up with the palm of her hand. Hmph. Why do Professors always ruin the fun? Wasn't class supposed to be not only a learning environment, but a fun one at that too? Everyone knew students learned much more when having fun.
However, the Slytherin couldn't but peak over at Destiny. No, she couldn't get the paper now but...well there was plenty of paper sticking out from her bag.
It looked like the same ones too. She had COPIES!? What were they!?

Even thought Emmaleigh had correctly guessed that the thing was a bogart, she frowned. She was really hoping that she would not have to deal with it. As the thing started to move around in the desk again, She scooted her chair over a little bit to be closer to the door. "two more inches between me and that thing," she thought. As she sat there in her thought, she heard Professor Carlton ask a question that she knew the answer to. She raised her hand, "Um, its a creature that takes on the appearance of your worst fear. And it's best to have at least one other person with with you because it confuses the boggart. On occasion, it will try to turn into both people's fear, and not be very scary at all."
vienna raised her hand this she did know having encountered one in her mums wardrobe.

It also confuses the Boggart if there are two of you

Vashti wasn't entirely focused during all the questions and answers thus far in class. She sort of knew what was going on but so far hadn't bothered to take down actual notes. She copied down a word or two but mostly she was staring down at her desktop, her right hand holding the quill and moving it in a constant motion up-and-down, up-and-down, as if she actually were writing, though the tip of the quill didn't touch the parchment.
But then a single word caught her attention and she glanced up, listening. Boggarts? They were dealing with boggarts today? Oh dear...
Vashti decided to answer a question, now that she was listening, though she felt a bit apprehensive about this lesson now. "A boggart is a creature that can change its appearance into what its opponent fears the most," she said after raising her hand. "And it's best to have at least one other person with you when you face one because not only does it tend to confuse the boggart when it doesn't know whose fear it should become, your partner can cast Riddikulus if you are unable to. It also helps to have more people around to laugh, since that also helps defeat a boggart."
