"Uh, no. I don't think so." Cass said "You see, Levicorpus is a spell that causes the victim to dangle by their ankle. It was created by former Hogwarts headmaster, Severus Snape during his own Hogwarts days. So if you'd rather transport your friend to the hospital wing upside down, suspended by their ankles, then by all means, use that spell. but if not, then...well you shouldn't." |

Carr slapped herself in the forehead for being so careless. "Sorry!" she said quickly. "My brain was thinking about 'Mobilicorpus', but I said 'Levicorpus' by mistake. I can't believe I made such a mistake." She laughed a little. |
Three pages of replies? You guys WIN! ^_^ ...then suddenly, student after student after student spoke up, each suggesting something at least slightly different than the people before them. Lexi opened her mouth to attempt to reply to each person individually, but the students were just too quick for that. So before it was too late and she missed out on something important, she quickly aimed her wand toward the board, levitated a piece of chalk, and started listing the responses. "Make sure you aren't getting the Hover Charm mixed up with the Mobili- or Locomotor spells. The Hover Charm raises an object, while Mobili- and Locomotor move them," she said. However, she was glad those topics had been brought up, since they did relate to what was being taught today in class. "The Hover Charm will move an object when you end the spell and that item drops, though." As she jotted down the responses, she turned to eye a few of the students who mentioned the spell being a cure for laziness. Oh, and then there was that one girl who mentioned using it for a food fight. She'd have to especially keep her eye on that one. *eye eye* Quote:
Text Cut: Canoir Greengrass, Reincarnation Jones, mellamaet Hearing a sort of mini-debate going on, Lexi dropped her wand back to her side, causing the chalk to drop back into place with a dull thud. She watched, sort of like she was at a ping-pong match, as the students discussed the usage of the Hover Charm on a human being. She'd speak up and throw in her two knuts, but the students were debating so nicely that she really hated to interrupt. Besides, it wasn't often this sort of thing happened with someone getting mad and charming a person a rat tail or something equally as disgusting. "Thank you, girls, for politely debating that. I'm tickled pink..." (as if she wasn't pink enough already) "...to see that my students can discuss things like mature people and not...well, utilize charms in bad ways toward one another," she said, sort of mumbling that last part. She didn't want to give anyone any extra ideas. "You can levitate a human being, but you just have to be careful...just as you would if you were using any movement spell, such as...Mobilicorpus," she added. "Especially if that person has been injured. You wouldn't won't to hurt them any more than they've already been hurt." Quote:
"A lot of you were suggesting movement, which wasn't exactly simple hovering or levitation, but it is related to a part of the lesson. The Mobili- spells, such as Mobilicorpus or Mobiliarbus, move objects. Of course -corpus would deal with moving a body, and -arbus would deal with moving a tree," she said. As she talked, a few boxes began levitating off the ground and making their way toward the students and around the room. "Same with the Locomotor spells, like the Locomotor spoon spell we covered last school year. As the boxes make their way around the room, grab a few items---some light, some medium, and some heavy. We're going to work on levitation and movement," she said. "Most of you have already mentioned the incantation and wand movement for the Hover Charm," she said. She paused and pulled a jewelry box out of a nearby box. She laid it on the desk, pointed her wand toward it, and with a swish and flick said, "Wingardium Leviosa!" The box made its way up, up, and...it froze. "Fixate!" she said. "Now those of you from last year will remember the way we got the spoon to move last year..." She pointed her wand toward the jewelry box and said, "Locomotor jewelry box!" With her wand, she guided the box exactly where she wanted it to go. It slightly grazed Duncan Fletcher's head, zoomed by Carr Jones' head, and finally came to a stop on Lori Bristol's desk. "This is the spell I want for you to practice on several different objects--remember, one light, one medium, and one heavy. You'll need to have this movement down pat for the activity at the end of class." OOC: Thanks, everyone, for being so patient while I was away and at school! I appreciate all the replies, and remember--you're getting participation points, even if Lexi doesn't specifically tell your character. Also, feel free to make up the items your charrie takes from the box! Normal items...she has no elephants hiding away in there. :P Steps: Text Cut: Steps |
Simon watched as Professor Carlton defly handled the jewelry box like the charms expert she obviously was since she taught the subject, winching slightly as it grazed Glitte---Fletcher's head. Listening to the words of instruction, the 5th year leaned and moved slightly closer to the box to see what type of items were inside to practice with. Hs hand slipping his wand out of his pocket as he picked out a shiny round object. "Locomotor pocket watch!" Simon cast causing the watch to levitate out of its position amongst the other items and come towards him, guiding it carefully to avoid his fellow students. |
Sammy watched, she loved Charms. SO FUN! She took her wand out of her pocket and headed over to the box to see what was in there ... "OoOoOo" she said sighting a dragonfly broach. It was pretty "Locomotor dragonfly broach" she said pointing her wand at the broach and watching it levitate out of the box, it was pretty. then guiding it over the heads of some students... hehehe |

While some part of him was beginning to see where she was going with the whole charms-and-cowboy-hats thing, it wasn't enough for him to consciously know it. Kellen distracted himself from wondering what was to come and rooted around in one of the provided boxes, emerging with a marker, a picture frame, and a clunky old alarm clock. Light, medium, and heavy: check. Deciding that he'd rather start with the heaviest item first, Kellen swished and flicked his wand at the alarm clock and intoned, "Wingardium Leviosa!" Once it was a few feet in the air, he added, "Fixate!" He was tempted, oh yes he was, to 'accidentally' locomotor the alarm clock into a certain Hufflejock's head, following the path of the professor's own example, but decided that probably wouldn't end well. Instead, he sent the clock ambling along in the air, completing a lap of the class with it before guiding it back onto his desk. Once the clock was resting beside the other items, Kellen's attention moved to the medium one. He'd have to be careful not to use too much magic, or it would probably shoot straight up in the air and smash on the ceiling. |

Spotting a jewelry box floating by her Alice called out, "Locomotor Jewelry Box!" and was pleased to see she was able to direct it right to her. "Fixate" Alice said once the box was next to her at a good height so she could pick her items out of it. Alice thought she would start with the heaviest object first, since she figured it would be the easiest to control. "Wingardium Leviosa," Alice said, swishing-and-flicking until a rather heavy and antique looking spell book came out of it. She guided it carefully in a little circle around her, being careful to avoid the stuffed bunny was zooming around, before leading it back and putting it on the table. Now to try a medium weight object...perhaps the alarm clock? Alice repeated what she had done with the book, but this time ended up sending the alarm clock smashing into the ceiling of the classroom. "Woops. A bit too much," Alice said, attempting to lower the clock back down. She hoped she didn't cause it too much damage. |
Glancing around the room, Lexi noticed that a few of the students were leaving out some of the steps she'd taught. "Remember, you need to levitate, fixate, then move--three steps. All three can be used separately, but you'll need to know them all together for the activity," she said. She circulated the room, watching as the students worked with a few of the objects she's put in the boxes. She turned toward the chalkboard and made note of the steps: 1. Levitate using a swish and flick of the wand plus Wingardium Leviosa. 2. Fix your object in place by pointing your wand at it and saying Fixate. 3. Move your object around the room by saying Locomotor ___ (insert object in blanks) and guiding it with your wand. |

Sammy looked at the steps on the board, putting her hand out and grabbing the dragonfly broach, whilst reading the steps. "sorry ma'am" she said before looking back at her hand, opened it pointed her wand at the broach ... it was so pretty. "Wingardium Leviosa." she muttered, then removing her hand from below the broach and watching it float, then moving it up a little "Fixate" she said, then the next one. "Locomotor dragonfly broach" she said, then smiling is it worked. |
As Professor Carlton spoke again, SImon realised his mistake and upon retrieving the pocket watch from midair, chose to walk this time to the box to pick out his other two items. Waiting his turn with his fellow students, he came upon a pen and heavy tome figuring with his original choice the three items would cover the professor's request, carrying them normally to his desk and setting them down. Once down, Simon took hold of his wand again and proceeded to work on the steps. "Winguardium Leviosa!" he cast on the pen, careful of the precide swish and flick movements. "Fixate!" he added causing the hovering instrument to stop in mid air. So far so good. "Locomotor Pen!" he finished sending it to his left as he turned once more careful of his surrounding companions. |

Alice pointed her wand at the antique book. "Wingardium Leviosa," Alice said with confidence, rising the book out of the jewelry box. Once she had gotten it at a good height she said "Fixate", then sure she had it right, Alice spoke out, "Locomotor antique book." She smiled as to book moved in sync with the way her wand moved. Ah...now she was doing it right. She moved it around in circles for a while, up and down, back and forth, (making sure she didn't hit anyone or anything) before setting it back down into the jewelry box. Now to try that tricky alarm clock again... |
Ty dipped his quill in ink and scribbled furiously as he tried to get everything down. Uncle James said that Charms was one of the most important subjects just because of how many times you need it in comparison to other subjects. Because, in all honesty, WHEN would he EVER feel the need to brew up a potion? Or tend a crazy, magical animal? That's right - not very many times. So Ty was going to try EXTRA hard in Charms this year; he had promised his uncle. As one of the boxes passed by him, he quickly rummaged around in it for three suitable objects. After much heaving with the last, VERY HEAVY, object he placed them in order on his table; a small fluffy toy of some sort, a goblet like those ones from dinner (TUT TUT Professor Carlton) and one of those MASSIVE atlases that have really detailed drawings and explanations of the different parts of the world. It was bigger than his chest and weighed just about the weight of his trunk in the common room. Mmk. Now. "Wingardium Leviosa!" he swished and flicked at the toy and it rose into the air. "Fixate!" he cast, and the toy halted to a stop, quivering slightly but staying airborn. Oooh, he was GOOD - now for the moving. "Locomor... weird toy thing!" Ty pointed his wand at said toy and to his utter delight, it began moving at his will. SO COOOOL! |
no elephants!? FAIL!! :P Watching as a box stopped in front of her, Destiny immediately stuck her hand inside, first picking out something light. Was that a..eww! What was a sock doing in this box? Hopefully it was at least clean. She doubted Professor Carlton would make them practice this hovering charm on a dirty sock, but you never know. Just to make sure, though, she picked the sock up, and as inconspicuously as she could be, held the sock to her nose and sniffed. Thank Merlin it was clean! Sticking her hand in the box again, she pulled out something medium; a mug. A very blue mug. Hehehe. Putting the mug off to the side, stuck her hand in the box once again and pulled out the very heavy object; an elephant..statue. What a bunch of weird objects. Destiny wondered where the Professor found all this stuff, but decided it best not to ask. Who knows what the woman would say! Pushing the statue thing off to the side next to the mug, she pulled the sock closer to herself and with a flick of her wrist, had her wand in her hand. She pointed at the sock and gave a swish and flick, "Wingardium Leviosa." she said, watching as the sock slowly but surely started to rise. When said sock was at eye level, she tapped her wand against it, "Fixate!" "Locomoter sock." she mumbled, directing the sock in the direction of Evelyn. "Hey Evelyn! See if this is clean!" Destiny knew the sock was, but Evelyn didn't. |

Leaning back in her seat, Evelyn waited for the box to move by her desk before picking out three things. Except, she wouldn't know what the three things were considering how high the box was hovering. Meh. Sticking her hand in, she rummaged around for a second before wincing and moving her hand slower. Jeez! Some of these things were like, made of rock! Picking up the first thing that she thought would be light enough to take out, one look at it... CLANK! OMG...muggle box rectangle mabob! Staring wide eyed at the rectangle thing that went with the muggle box that she'd seen at Destiny's house, the girl scooted her chair back some, not even wanting to be near it. The professor was out to get her! Everyone knew that muggle boxes ate people and turned them into muggles! And to keep it's little side kick in a classroom!? PFFFT! She was going to show this rectangle who was boss! It's master wasn't here at the moment, so she was totally going to...WIN! Yea. Smirking, she stood up this time and searched through the box, randomly taking out things before sitting back down in her seat and hesitantly sticking the two objects onto the desk. Meh. Stupid rectangle. Before she knew it though, there was a sock in her face. WHAAA?! Snatching it out of the air, Evelyn glared at Destiny before taking her own wand out. With a flick, the sock was now bright PINK before she did the other spells. "Wingardium Leviosa." Swish and Flick...and theeen a tap. "Fixate." Hehehehe. "Locomotor sock." Flick! To Destiny's face IT FLEW! |
Dianna looked inside a box. Wonder what she'll be getting? "Wingardium Leviosa." with a swish and flick a mirror came out. "Fixate." Oh, now she can see herself. "Is my hair really that messy?" she whispered to herself as she got ready for the next spell. "Locomotor mirror." and the mirror went zooming around the classroom. Hihihi! |
Question for the lovely Pink!Professor in here. ;) As the lesson continued, Grayson had sent a brief glance at the little Slytherin who had repeated what she'd said before, about Dobby. Are people even listening?, she thought, only a bit irritated. At least Professor Carlton didn't seem to have a problem with her own answer to teh question. Granted, that library option kind of more fit what was being discussed now, the whole Locomotor charm thing, but she hadn't really gotten shot down. So she felt she'd answered good. Which meant some more points for Ravenclaw, and more of a cushion if she ever actually got in trouble. There was always a first time. But they were being told to actually practice the spells now, and as the box moved past her she stood up to reach inside. Three items, different weights. By the time the box moved on, she'd pulled out a hippogriff feather and a fairly good-sized spell book. But that was only two things. Not really wanting to wait for the box to come back, she raised her hand after sitting back down and depositing the two other items on her desk. "Professor? Do we have to use three items from the box, or can we use something of our own?," she asked. Granted, the only "thing" she could think of was the peacefully sleeping ferret in her school bag, but Draco zooming around the room could be kind of funny. And she knew he'd get over it pretty quickly, not to mention she wasn't about to let anything hurt him. While she waited for an answer to her question, she glanced at the two objects she had managed to get. May as well get started with the assignment. Aiming at the feather, she gave her wand a swish and flick. "Wingardium Leviosa" Watching the feather float upward, she let it get several feet above her head, then pointed her wand at it again. "Fixate" Then she bit back a giggle, as the feather frozen in midair looked rather funny. but giggling would probably break her concentration, so she took a breath and moved on. "Locomotor feather!" Hehe funny hippogriff feather zooming around the room, along with all the other objects people had chosen. As it zoomed over he desk again, she said "Finite" and watched the feather drop toward her desk again. That was fun. |
