I guess you're wondering why you have them on and just what we're going to be doing with them," she said with a laugh. She'd meant to comment on this a little earlier, but all the pretty pink suits of clothes had distracted her. "You'll find out soon enough, though. I promise." Quote:

"Thank you, Mr. Stern, for thinking outside the box on that one. You're right, too," she remarked. "Once you've casted the Hover Charm, you'll need to keep careful watch over it so it'll maintain it's..." Quote:

Viky thought for a moment, and then slowly raised her hand 'Proffessor, the Hover Charm is a simple charm used - as one might expect from the name - to levitate things. It's wand movement is a swish and flick, and the incantation is Wingardium Leviosa' hehe. she wasn't all that smart, but she did know SOME things. Like simple first year charms, for example. But she definitely needed to work on them, she wasn't that great of a spell caster...
Looking up at the Proffessor, she couldn't help but smile at the hair. Pink highlights on a teacher? Not something you'd EVER see at Durmstrang. But it was pretty cool 'And Proffessor? I like your hair' she said, giving her a smile. She wasn't a huge fan of pink, but it did look nice. Not that she'd ever get highlights - they'd look silly. Stupid red hair. Pfft. | "...levitation," she said, turning toward the Johannsen girl as she finished her sentence. "Levitation...swish, flick...Wingardium Leviosa. All are right." Suddenly surprised at the comment on her hair, Lexi paused and gave the girl a small smile. "Oh, well, thank you. I do---..." She trailed off, though. She had been about to go off on some spill about fashion but stopped herself before she could get completely distracted. Charms, Alexia. Charms. Quote:

OKAY. Hover charm. Hmm.
Raising his hand, Ty attempted to answer. "It makes objects fly, Professor. And, erm, the incantation is Wingardium Leviosa," he said, grinning as he noticed that Professor Carlton's hair was, in fact, streaked with PINK.
Apparently Lo knew what was "in" these days. Hehe. | "It levitates objects...specifically," she said, turning toward Ty. "...but, yes. We'll get into moving them about once they're up there sometime later on in the lesson." Good thing most of the students already seemed to know the incantation. That was one less thing she'd have to heavily focus on, which meant they could get to the practical part of the lesson a little sooner. Quote:

Wow. Evan had to admit the professor's pink in the yellow looked really nice on her, and even made her look younger. These professors knew how to dress and look beautiful. Ahem. Back to the lesson. Raising his hand, he answered the question "It's used for floating objects in air," he said the obvious, which could easily be interpreted from the name. Oh well. He preferred Levitation Charm anyway. | "Right," she said, her attention now on Evan. "To hover them, as the name suggests." She paused for just a moment to move back toward her desk. She'd paced enough and was now ready to just sit and face the students as they discussed and learned. She took a seat on the edge of the desk and glanced back out at the class. Quote:

You could hover it anywhere, though, so as long as you properly used your wand to guide it." Quote:

After taking a moment to straighten her cowgirl hat on her head, Vashti raised her hand to answer the professor's question. "The Hover Charm is one of the earliest recorded spells, and it originated in here in England maaaany years ago." Like, way-back-in-ancient-times kind of many. Yeah, it was one old spell. | "Mmhmm, mmhmm," she said, gesturing toward Vashti, who'd just mentioned that the spell originated in England. England was just awesome like that, now wasn't it? Quote:

Grayson had grinned a little as the Head Girl had done the same as she had, and called out a greeting at the slightly open door in the classroom. At least now she didn't have to feel weird all by herself. But she'd jumped as the door had slammed shut. Without anyone exiting. Oops. Glancing around, she saw Professor Carlton by the other door. Okay, so she hadn't been in there. Oh well. She smiled at the professor, momentarily thinking she should have left the green in her hair after the DADA class, with the professor's pink streaks in her hair. Solidarity or something, although she figured the pink streaks weren't from magical paintball wars.
As the first question was posed to the class, she raised her hand along with the others. "Hover charms are used to make things hover in midair. Which might be the same as Wingardium Leviosa, but that more accurately makes things levitate," she said, before continuing. It was a subtle difference, in her opinion. "And Hover charms are used by house elves sometimes. Harry Potter got in trouble with the Ministry that one time because Dobby had cast a Hover charm in his aunt and uncle's house." Okay, now she was stopping. Til the next question. | "Right, the Hover Charm causes objects to levitate and hover, so it and Wingardium Leviosa are one in the same," she said, turning to Grayson. She motioned toward a few students who'd already answered and, as an afterthought, added, "The incantation is Wingardium Leviosa, which doesn't sound to be unfamiliar to lots of you."
House elves...that mention reminded Lexi of cookies. Mmm... Quote:

Alright, Charms! This was possibly Keefer's favorite subject at Hogwarts. It was the light-hearted, whimsical subject that so suited his personality. And then there was Professor Carlton with her pink highlights that just made him smile.
Keefer raised both of his hands into the air, almost as if levitated by the very Hover Charm they were discussing. "The Hover Charm's incantation is Wingardium Leviosa, Professor. And from personal experience, I can say that it is best to be looking at the object you wish to levitate. Otherwise, you may lose concentration or get distracted so that you actually make something else go flying up in the air."
His mother had been most unhappy to find her best china suddenly in peril. The distant crashes of falling china echoed through the years as Keefer reminisced. | "Very good point about always watching the object to make sure you don't lose your connection," she said. Hmm...especially when levitation rather large objects, like people. She didn't suppose anyone would enjoy being dropped to the ground after being levitated. She laughed lightheartedly as she pictured objects...or people...randomly flying away all thanks to someone losing their concentration. Quote:

Oh. Hah. Theeere she was. Wasn't much of an entrance....
Ellie shrugged it off. Maybe she'd suggest an entrance for the next lesson. Just the idea, though. Because she'd want to be surprised.
Okay, lesson now. Hover charm? Wingardium leviosa, perhaps? She put her hand up. It was worth a try. "It's used to levitate things." See, that's what she knew it as. But she supposed hovering and levitating were almost the same thing. Almost. "You give your wand a swish and a flick and you say 'Wingardium leviosa'. Pronounciation's important." It was. "And you need to keep your concentration of the object and spell. Otherwise it will fall and make a mess of everything." Yup. | "Pronunciation, yes...," she said, nodding once in agreement. "This charm has been known to cause objects to, err... explode...if the pronunciation isn't just so." She gave some of the more shifty students a warning glance before continuing. "Wingardium Leviosa...lots of different sounds in there, so you'll need to make sure you know them all perfectly before doing all your swishing and flicking."
Cue warning glance again. Surely no one would cause a minor explosion in he room...hmm? Quote:

She was happy to know she could be sure that most, if not all, of the students knew how to cast the spell and what the spell could do. Quote:

And yes she was back with the pink highlights which were an expected look even thought they had been starting to fade towards the end of term.
Listening to the question and the answers before, he tried to think of something different to say. "The swish and flick movement must be precise and concentration is key lest the spell discipate and you drop whatever was hovering," he added to the rest. | "Concentration...precise pronunciation...swish and flick--yes, it seems most of you know the gist of the Hover Charm," she remarked. She gave Simon a brief nod before addressing the class as a whole. "So we realize that the spell levitates an object in the air and causes it to hover for some amount of time. That's the basic use of the spell, but what else can we do with this spell?" she asked. "Share with us some unique ways we can use the charm to...well, do an assortment of different things." |
