There's nothing unusual about the way the Charms classroom has been set up. All the desks are neatly arranged in rows and, save for a few boxes filled with random supplies, nothing unusual decorates the room. Professor Carlton doesn't appear to be in the classroom, but a slightly ajar door in the back of the room gives the impression that she's likely in the supply closet, looking around for some random something-or-another to use in class.
A sign on the board reads:
Quote:
Welcome to Charms class! Please come in and take a seat. As my announcement indicated, you are more than welcome to have come to class wearing cowboy or cowgirl attire. If you don't own these items, they'll be provided for you. The lesson will begin momentarily.
OOC: The lesson will begin in about two hours (5:45 PM EST). You may roleplay your character coming in and joining class, but please try and limit the conversation.
Glancing around the room, Lexi noticed that a few of the students were leaving out some of the steps she'd taught. "Remember, you need to levitate, fixate, then move--three steps. All three can be used separately, but you'll need to know them all together for the activity," she said. She circulated the room, watching as the students worked with a few of the objects she's put in the boxes.
She turned toward the chalkboard and made note of the steps:
1. Levitate using a swish and flick of the wand plus Wingardium Leviosa.
2. Fix your object in place by pointing your wand at it and saying Fixate.
3. Move your object around the room by saying Locomotor ___ (insert object in blanks) and guiding it with your wand.
Louisa took hold of her wand and pointed it to the ball in front of her. "Wingardium Leviosa!" She casted the spell which hit the object perfectly and levitated it slowly in the air.
Louisa was smiling widely... Yeah, Charms was his best class..."Fixate!" She shot another spell which held the ball suspended in midair vibrating a bit. She turned down to see the name of the other spell, lost concentration and the ball bounced on the desk in front of her. Sighing, Louisa took the ball before it fell off the desk and placed it again before her.
"Locomotor ball!" She casted and started to move the ball with her wand to the right... left... upwards... backwards... and in every possible direction. Yay! Now that what she called magic. Grin.
1. Levitate using a swish and flick of the wand plus Wingardium Leviosa.
2. Fix your object in place by pointing your wand at it and saying Fixate.
3. Move your object around the room by saying Locomotor ___ (insert object in blanks) and guiding it with your wand.
Once the picture frame was back on his desk (there was really much he could do with it, anyway), Kellen turned his attention to the marker. This. Could be a lot of fun. Before casting on it, he removed the lid and snapped it into place on the top of the marker. Then, he performed the swish and flick once more, "Wingardium Leviosa."
He didn't let the marker get too high this time; face-height was pretty nice, "Fixate!" Now... to look for a human doodle-pad on which to draw the horrendous art of one Kellen Stern. To avoid suspicion, he cast, "Locomotor marker!" and sent it floating slowly around the class while he picked a targer. Where were all his friends when he was actually looking for them?
Riley listened carefully to each of the steps that Professor Carlton has explained to them and the Gryffindor even wrote them down once she had written them on the board along with the class's ideas for using the Hover Charm. There was alot of writing at this school and Riley wasn't sure how he liked that, he needed to learn the charm to make his quill write by itself! Or....he could buy one at Hogsmeade!!! He quickly scribbled that down in his notes as a reminder.
Then after they were given permission to start Riley stepped forward and decided he would find something light at first. At first Riley was reluctant to stick his hands into a box of unknowns, for fear of touching something less-than-desirable but after a small pep talk to himself, one that included the fact that he could wash his hands later, the boy reached in and retrieved a tennis ball.
Taking the tennis ball to an area that wasn't too crowded with other kids he layed it on a desk and pointed his wand at it. Looking at his notes again he spoke. "Wingardium Leviosa!" and with a swish and a flick the tennis ball hovered over the desk top. What was he supposed to do now? Oh yeah stop it. "Fixate." He pointed his wand at the rising tennis ball and it stopped about a foot and a half off of the desk.
Now the fun part! Riley looked around him and then spoke the last incantation. "Locomotoer tennis ball!" the ball immeadiately zoomed off the table in the direction his wand was pointing and flew up and down around the boy in a circle.
1. Levitate using a swish and flick of the wand plus Wingardium Leviosa.
2. Fix your object in place by pointing your wand at it and saying Fixate.
3. Move your object around the room by saying Locomotor ___ (insert object in blanks) and guiding it with your wand.
Fee took the apple and laid it down on her table.
Taking her wand in the hand she made the swish and flick movement. "Wingardium Liviosa"
As the apple had reached a acceptable hight, she aimed her wand at it. "Fixate"
Fee ponited with her wand at the apple and said "Locomotor apple."
Slowly it was flying towards her other hand.
Glancing around the room, Lexi noticed that a few of the students were leaving out some of the steps she'd taught. "Remember, you need to levitate, fixate, then move--three steps. All three can be used separately, but you'll need to know them all together for the activity," she said. Rex swished and flicked his wand. "Wingardium Leviosa" Rex used these words. Rex pointed his wand at the object and said " Fixate" " Locomotor Gold Pin" and Rex guieded it with his wand across the room.
" Rex swished and flicked the wand again. "Wingardium Leviosa" Rex points his wand at the new object and says " Fixate." " Locomotor'Cowboy Hat" and Rex guided this object acroos the room. The last part is the hardest.
Rex swish and flick of his wand. " Wingardium Leviosa" Rex called out. Rex stands up and looks at his object. He points his wand at the object and says "Fixate" " Locomotor Rex's desk" and guided it carefully around the room.

Except, she wouldn't know what the three things were considering how high the box was hovering. Meh. Sticking her hand in, she rummaged around for a second before wincing and moving her hand slower. Jeez! Some of these things were like, made of rock! Picking up the first thing that she thought would be light enough to take out, one look at it...
CLANK!
OMG...muggle box rectangle mabob!
Staring wide eyed at the rectangle thing that went with the muggle box that she'd seen at Destiny's house, the girl scooted her chair back some, not even wanting to be near it. The professor was out to get her! Everyone knew that muggle boxes ate people and turned them into muggles! And to keep it's little side kick in a classroom!? PFFFT! She was going to show this rectangle who was boss! It's master wasn't here at the moment, so she was totally going to...WIN! Yea. Smirking, she stood up this time and searched through the box, randomly taking out things before sitting back down in her seat and hesitantly sticking the two objects onto the desk. Meh. Stupid rectangle.
Before she knew it though, there was a sock in her face. WHAAA?! Snatching it out of the air, Evelyn glared at Destiny before taking her own wand out. With a flick, the sock was now bright PINK before she did the other spells. "Wingardium Leviosa." Swish and Flick...and theeen a tap. "Fixate."
Hehehehe. "Locomotor sock."
Flick!
To Destiny's face IT FLEW!
Destiny really thought Evelyn was going to sniff the sock that had been levitated to her. The way she snatched it out of the air and all.. But no. There would be no sniffing socks, and she supposed one sniff was enough anyway.
Well, she didn't expect Evelyn to change her once white sock into a HIDEOUS shade of PINK! "Hey!" Destiny scoffed, as the next thing she knew the pink sock came flying in her direction, landing right on her face! Picking it off, making sure to only hold it at the very, very end, as not to catch the pink disease that was spreading, she placed it on the table as far away from herself as possible. Stay away sock! Maybe after class, she'd give it to Professor Carlton. It matched her..hair.
Right.
Sure that she was fine with levitating something light, she decided to try the mug now. Pulling that closer to herself, she pointed her wand and gave a swish and flick, "Wingardium Leviosa." Just like she did with the sock, she waited until the cup was at eye level before tapping her wand against the side. "Fixate."
"Locomotor mug." she said, and sent it slooooooowly flying to Evelyn. "Gimme a drink."
And nothing pink.

Good Merlin!
Lexi was excited to see that a lot of students were getting the hang of the whole levitate/fixate/move combination, but at the same time, a person near about battle armor to walk about the classroom. There were flying bunnies and raccoons everywhere...and she was almost positive something had crashed into the ceiling a few seconds ago.
She couldn't be sure, because just as she'd looked up, a sock zoomed right past her face, blocking her line of vision. A sock? A sock? Ewww, who'd put that in there? She suspected the Fletcher boy, to be quite honest.
"Good job, class! Keep working on levitating, fixating, and moving three different objects--or more, if you can. Try and do one light, one medium, and one heavy," she said. She gestured toward the board again, where she'd jotted down the instructions. "Instructions are one the board!"
1. Levitate using a swish and flick of the wand plus Wingardium Leviosa.
2. Fix your object in place by pointing your wand at it and saying Fixate.
3. Move your object around the room by saying Locomotor ___ (insert object in blanks) and guiding it with your wand.

Not really wanting to wait for the box to come back, she raised her hand after sitting back down and depositing the two other items on her desk. "Professor? Do we have to use three items from the box, or can we use something of our own?," she asked. Granted, the only "thing" she could think of was the peacefully sleeping ferret in her school bag, but Draco zooming around the room could be kind of funny. And she knew he'd get over it pretty quickly, not to mention she wasn't about to let anything hurt him. While she waited for an answer to her question, she glanced at the two objects she had managed to get. May as well get started with the assignment.
"Oh, sure, that's fine by me, so as long as the object is harmless," she said, giving the girl the go-ahead. Lexi trusted that there were no elephants in that bag of Grayson's. Although, she'd keep the occasional eye on the girl just to make sure that this personal object she was planning on using was appropriate for the classroom.
Patroclus couldn't get over how great Professor Carlton was, not only was she the Charms Professor she was now also the awesome leader of the most awesomist house; Gryffindor!
Quickly jotting down some note, on the differences between the Loco- and Mobil- spells, Patroclus listened as the next section of the lesson was described. Cool, the boy thought as he with drew his wad from its holster.
Reaching his hand into the box, Patroclus withdrew a silk scarf, "I bet blowing on this would leviate it," the boy laughed, before clearing his throat. "Wingardium Leviosa!" he said, in a clear concise voice, whislt his wand swished and flicked. Rising from it's place on the desk, the Scarf looked rather elegant floating in the air, until "Fixate!" With a jab of his wand, it froze in mid-air.
"Locomotor Scarf", as the words left his mouth, the scraf began to react to the slightest movements of his wand. Feeling like an orchestra conductor, brandishing his wand, the Scarf coiled and fluttered through the air. With flicks and slashes of his wrist, the Scarf performed elegant aerobatics.
Uh-huh. Of course, Louisa would love to practice more on other objects. The little girl dwelt into the box before her and got a piece of wood with engravings and beads all over it. "Hello antique! You're about to get levitated...wingardium leviosa." And the piece of wood flew up slowly till it was in Louisa's eyes' level, "Fixate. Aren't you beautiful?" The girl had a habbit of talking to herself, yeah, no need for a hospital wing just now.
"Why don't you go over there? Locomotor ..er..antique." The object moved slowly towards the middle of the class as Louisa instructed it, upper than other objects, then to the right a little... forwards... backwards towards Louisa's seat. That was FUN! ^__^

Adjusting his hat from where the professor had bumped his head, Fletcher reached into the box and pulled out his three items. An old Sneakoscope was the light item, an unopened box of Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans became the medium item, and a.... a....
What was this? Fletcher pulled out the large, pink item and stared hard at it. A purse? Really? He lifted it up by its handles and nearly dropped the thing right back onto the desk. Ughh why was it so heavy??!? What was in there, bricks?
Curious, Fletcher tried to unzip the bag but couldn't. Huh. It seemed to be cursed shut. He even tried the alohomora charm on the purse and it still did not budge. Well whatever. It was heavy enough to be his heavy item and he figured he should start with the bag.
He swished and flicked his wand, nonverbally saying Wingardium Leviosa! in his head. Bada boom bada ping and the purse was now floating up in the air on its own, albeit a lot lower than Fletcher had expected. It must have been all those bricks in the bag. He flicked his wand up a little bit and the bag hovered slightly higher.
"Fixate," the boy murmured, hoping people wouldn't be staring at him and the pink thing too too much. He glanced around the room just to be sure and spied stupid Kellen Stern sitting behind him. Brilliant. He was the target.
"Locomotor PURSE!" Fletcher shouted a bit more enthusiastically than necessary and the purse took off like a possessed rocket, zooming around the room three times before it knocked into the back of Kellen's head and then fell to the desk with a very heavy thump.
Fletcher quickly turned around in his seat and busied himself with examining the beans in his box. Doo doo dee da doo, he didn't do anything.

At the bottom of her bag she found it! The perfect item! She could levitate a box of chocolates to Proffesor Carlton, but no that wouldn't be good for her first class, so she ripped the silver wrapping and took out a chocolate coconut truffle. She put in on her desk and slowly said "Wingardiam Leviosa" then "Fixate" then "Locomoter Chocolate" and guided it in circles then onto the Proffesor's desk. Aha. She watched other people attempt heaver objects before she tried.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" Ty cast the charm on the golden goblet and watched as it rose up, having bought the weird toy down moments earlier. "Fixate!" he said and bit his lip as the object dipped in height suddenly, but stayed airborne. It was probably not supposed to do that. . . Right?
EH. Glancing at the Professor, Ty shrugged his shoulders. It had worked right? The goblet was now hovering obediently above him. "Locomotor goblet!" he pointed his wand at said goblet and grinned with satisfaction as every move of his wand sent the goblet zooming. Zoooooooooo- ACK. Juuust missed someone's head. Never mind.
As he brought the goblet down, Ty realised that maybe choosing it for something of medium weight was not good. It was, after all, really light. Hmm - BUT, this humongous atlas thing was waaaaay heavier than the rest of the things, so he could make up for it with that.
"W- Wingardium Leviosa!" he swished and flicked and the book rose high up. It was strange... that atlas was so HEAVY. "Fixate!" he said an- AAAAHHHH!! Ducking for cover under the table, Ty covered his ears and clamped his eyes shut as he waited for the scary BOOM sound that would happen when the atlas - freefalling from above - collided with his desk. Or char. Or whatever.
... Where was the boom? There was no boom. Confused, the third year peeked out from under the table only to find the atlas hovering about three centimetres off the wooden chair. PHEW. From his positon on the floor, Ty raised his wand and - praying that this spell will work - cast his charm. "LOCOMOTOR ATLAS!" the Ravenclaw's voice was a little louder than absolutely needed, but he was nervous.
IT WOOOOORRRKKKKEEED. BIG grin. Hehe. Clambering back into his chair as the atlas floated above the class, Ty took to swaying it around the room and wondering what would happen if he suddenly lost focus and dropped it.

Turning back in the opposite direction still directing the flating pen with his wand, Simon accidentally bumped into Viky. "Um...sorry," he appologized to his friend taking hold of the pen in his free hand since his concentration had been blown as he looked at the girl. Smiling he took a breath and placed the pen back on the table as he sat back down.
"Better to stay seated to limit the things one has to focus on," he mused quietly before turning to the watch. Granted he had already gotten it to move but he needed to try it out in all three steps. "Winguardium Leviosa!" he cast waiting for a few moments as it floated up before following through with the process. "Fixate...Locomotor watch!" he added dragging it across the desk though 3 inches above the surface.
Really, he should have expected it. He'd just thought, for some strange reason, that a single crack to the eye was all the abuse he would ever take from Duncan Hufflejock Fletcher. Fortunately for Kellen, the back of his head was mostly skull, unlike the front which had sensitive bits like eyes and a nose. Still, he hunched over when the projective hit him, and looked down at it as it landed on the desk.
...a purse? Really? Really Kellen turned and regarded the Hufflepuff -- ?because really, who else would charm a purse of rocks to hit him that quickly -- and felt honestly, truly tempted to charm the marker he was working with to fly into the boy's eye. It would serve him right, being half-blinded for the Tournament. But no. No, he was determined to use words on this idiot.
He picked up the purse and threaded through the desks to where Fletcher was totally failing at looking innocent, and set the offending bag back down, "For someone who hates glitter, you don't strike me as someone who'd use a pink handbag. I suppose it goes to show one can never tell."

Fletcher was working on his beans now, but instead of charming the entire box to just hover around the room, the boy had instead picked out a few choice beans that looked delicious. He had charmed them to hover around in a rotating circle, as if they were being juggled, and every so often he would flick his wand and get one to fall into his mouth.
Show off much?

"Lucky me, I seem to match a lot of colours." Kellen stepped out from under the floating beans, not particularly wanting to stay there in case Fletcher decided to drop them. Really, he didn't want to stay anywhere near Fletcher; he just wanted to go back to casting charms. Being scholarly, and all that safe, academic stuff.
The bag back where it belonged, Kellen gave Fletcher a brief, not-particularly-sincere smile and turned back to his desk. More as a precaution than anything else, he cast a non-verbal shield charm on himself as he went.
Vienna wasn't to sure what she was going to use she finally decided to remove her necklace from around her neck. Snickering when the sock hit Destiny's face, though slumping in her seat when it almost hit the Professor's, Evelyn turned her attention back to the things she took out, making sure to keep a wary eye on the muggle box rectangle thing.
So, there sat a fluffy stuffed animal turkey and...a boring brown colored plant pot. Awesome.
Sighing, she flicked her wand towards the pot, letting the color change to a poka dot light green and black. Well, at least it was a bit better now. Hehe. Hopefully the professor wouldn't want it back the way it came. "Wingardium Leviosa." she muttered, with a swish and flick of her wand, letting the pot hover just above her head before tapping it and saying, "Fixate."
Where to move it though? "Locomotor plant pot."
....to the PROFESSOR'S DESK it went! However, on the way there, she flicked her wand towards the pot once more, letting the colors turn to a light and dark pink; pretty much finding that doing her own color changing charm was way easier than using the one the Professor taught them. It only used a large amount of concentration and flick of the wand. And...a little twirl thing at the end now that she watched it. Huh. Who knew!?
Now that the pot was out of the way and she didn't have to stare at it anymore, it was now the turkey animal thing! Which, strangely reminded her of the epic fails in Transfiguration with the chickens.

Marie sat there watching the other students pulling items from the boxes until it was finally her turn. Reaching in the first item she pulled out was a feather. Well that would certainly be considered a light item. The next thing she pulled out was a book. Not just any book either, this was a book about useless animal facts.
One more item to go.
Putting her hand back in the box she felt around for something heavy. Feeling something that felt like stone she grabbed that and pulled it out. Well that was interesting. It was a statue of a dragon.
With her three items on her desk she pulled out her wand and got ready to start moving them... without touching them.
With a swish and a flick of her wand she said, "Wingardium Leviosa" and watched as the feather floated up off the desk. She then pointed her wand at the feather. "Fixate." and the feather stayed there hovering over her desk. Now where to have the feather go.
Looking around she finds the perfect victim location for it. "Locomotor Feather" she says as she guides the feather straight towards Patroclus and his ear.

She walked back to her bag, being careful not to run into anyone, nor the dragonfly broach. She opened up her bag, and pulled out the current book she was reading... she was almost finished now. Percy Jackson and the Battle of the Labyrinth. She pulled it out and started the procedure again "Wingardium Leviosa... Fixate... Locomotor book" oh she felt smart ... levitating a book.

Although, she'd keep the occasional eye on the girl just to make sure that this personal object she was planning on using was appropriate for the classroom.
Having finished dealing with her feather, Grayson turned innocent eyes to Professor Carlton as her question was answered. Hand half-reached out toward the spellbook she'd retrieved from the box, she decided maybe it would be better to actually run her thoughts by the professor before she actually did anything. "Well, it's just I didn't get a third object from the box," she explained, keeping her green eyes wide and innocent. At least as innocent as possible given the amount of random objects zooming around the room that she didn't want hitting her in the head. "I was wondering if I could use my ferret. He's pretty harmless, I mean he's never bitten anyone. But I guess I can try and figure something else out if you'd rather." Well, Draco hadn't bitten anyone except for her little brother that one time, but that had been extentuating circumstances. He trusted her not to do anything extraordinarily stupid with him. She'd climbed trees with him in her pocket, for Merlin's sake. At least she'd have more control now of where he could go. But she wanted to make sure she wasn't about to risk trouble.
So first she'd continue and try the spells out on her second object. Picking the book up, she hefted it for a moment before setting it on her desk again. Definitely weighed more than the feather, but she still thought she could manage the spells. "Wingardium Leviosa," she said, pointing her wand at the unsuspecting book with another swish and flick. It started levitating, slower than the feather, but she got it fairly high before pointing her wand at it again. "Fixate." Book frozen in midair. Glancing around to make sure nobody looked like they'd get accidentally hit, she finally spoke again, returning her gaze to the book. "Locomotor spellbook" Guiding it around the room, she made sure to try and avoid any heads, although that was difficult given she also had to avoid the other objects flying around. Not impossible, though, and she felt rather accomplished.

She just steped inside and was pleased to see some familier faces like that of Hugo's..

"Welllllll, professaaah," the Irish lad attempted an American Western accent, "yeh could use the charm fer a variety o' things. Like haulin water ter yer campsite, or puttin up a tent, or gettin yer horse across th' river."
Oh yeah. He liked theme classes.
Had Salander not been making such effort to stay in cognito from the Charms Professor, he would've laughed out loud like a hyena. Instead he coughed and cleared his throat, trying to hide the guttural laughter still managing to escape. There was just something about an American hearing an Irish lad fake the cowboy drawl. It was slightly flattering, a good deal embarrassing and just totally amusing.
Which taught Salander one thing: Should not attempt faking accents from these parts, unless I wanna be lampooned by half of Hogwarts.
See he is learning.

.....aaaandd that just brought Salander's attention back front and center.
The Charms Professor asked him to clarify. She is looking at him!
"D-uhhh....."he mumbled as he shifted uncomfortably in his seat. Still not making eye contact he replied "Arithmancy class. There was a maze. And a chasm in the floor. And gigantic puzzle stones that fit the hole. 'Had to lift them using Wingardium Leviosa to solve the puzzle, form the rest of the floor and run outta the maze."

"This is the spell I want for you to practice on several different objects--remember, one light, one medium, and one heavy. You'll need to have this movement down pat for the activity at the end of class."
OOC: Thanks, everyone, for being so patient while I was away and at school! I appreciate all the replies, and remember--you're getting participation points, even if Lexi doesn't specifically tell your character. Also, feel free to make up the items your charrie takes from the box! Normal items...she has no elephants hiding away in there.

He took his items aside, and focused on the Chieftain's headdress. "Wingardium Leviosa" he swished and flicked as the headdress floated up. "Fixate!" he uttered as he steadied the headdress at the height he wanted it to hover. "Locomotor headdress" he commanded with a forceful flick of his wand. The headdress flew.....
..... straight onto Fletcher's head, knocking off his hat.
Bullseye! Quickly he took aim at the fallen black hat "Wingardium Leviosa!" It floated high in the air as Salander commanded "Locomotor hat " pulling it towards himself. He flicked his wrist one more time as the hat fell onto his head, then gave it a good tap, securing it. He glanced at the HufflePuff Champion Chieftain and grinned. Well at least that headdress is in his house colors. Not to mention it goes well with his PINK shoes
