| | Arithmancy One: Brief History & Numbers 2 and 7 Another year at Hogwarts was underway, which also meant it was time for another lesson of Arithmancy. Having awoke early that morning, Fina headed down to make sure the classroom was set up. Several rows . . . ten in a row. Still perfect.
Cracking open the windows just a bit to create some airflow, Fina then took a seat behind her desk and began flipping through a textbook. Without looking up, she flicked her wand and the door opened allowing students to enter. Flicking it again behind her, words appeared on the board behind her: Quote:
Please take your seats. The lesson will begin shortly.
ooc: You should know my rules by now. If you don't, please familiarize yourself with them before posting.
Class has begun. Late admittance will not be tolerated, so please pretend as though your character has been here the whole time. =) Gnosis and Cabala The Numbers 2 & 7 The Activity |

Mentally giving herself a pat on her back for always putting her wand in the wrist holder she had, the Slytherin looked around as she got up from the floor, taking her wand out just to be on the safe side. Was the professor able to see through these walls or something? Because who knows what some random person would be up to, thinking that Professor Hadley COULDN'T see them and finding it a good opportunity to try out spells.
...and no, it wasn't crossing her mind to jinx others in the maze.
Leaving her little peppermint chocolate on the ground since, well her hand smooshed it and it wasn't appetizing looking anymore, the Slytherin quickly turned a corner and another. Well, this ultimately failed. The walls were rather close together, making the corridor ways narrow. A lot more narrow then the ones in DADA class.
Why couldn't she be partnered with Raiden again? Or Destiny and Marie? She'd actually feel a lot better if that happened. Heck, she didn't even know if any of those people were in this class. Which was just brilliant, because now she was on her own.
Pffft. What were they supposed to do if they came across...numbers was it?

"Thanks for the candy, Prof---" WHAT'S HAPPENING?!!??!?!
Ok, maze. Wait a minute, why do all the professors suddenly think putting their students in mazes is a good idea? I guess it doesn't matter. It's wicked awesome!
"Right-o. A quest for two and seven!"
Taking his wand out, Keefer randomly selected a path and started down it. He made random turns, occasionally passing other students. After a few minutes, he came across a giant number, a two.
He stared at it for a bit. Two is supposed to be about unity and harmony. Well, if it's all about being unified, then maybe I have to divide it? "Reducto." His spell shot at the number and nothing happened. No? Well, maybe Diffindo. But if that doesn't work, I'll have to try something else.
"Diffindo!"
Just like that, the giant 2 split in half. He walked past. Turning around, he saw that the number had rejoined, waiting for the next student to come. He kept going, wondering if he was even heading in the right direction.

"Hi Trixie!" she said with a grin of her own. "You wanna partner up for this? Since, y'know, we're not throwing paint at each other this time." Hehe, that WAS fun though. Right so which way was best? Left or right?
She didn't even wait for Vashti's response, she was already preparing where to go. Either way didn't look particularly appealing. There were no giant numbers obstructing them at the moment. Hmm..... Maybe she should do eeny meeny miney mo because her mind wasn't being made up very quickly and if it was up to her, they'd be stood around here for a long while. "I would love too" she grinned back. Left, right, left again.
He walked for several minutes before coming across another number. Another 2!
Well, two was related to relationships, collaboration or cooperation, and diplomacy. Well, I'm not gonna date this giant number, so it's not the relationship bit. He chuckled to himself. Relationships, collaboration, diplomacy... Collaboration... Ha, just like when people paired up in DADA for the paint game! Pairing up had ultimately done the trick. Pair up.... Diplomacy... Unity...
An idea occurred to Keefer. "What if we have to go through in pairs or teams?"
He looked around, but didn't see another student. Maybe he'd wait til someone came along?

Until she heard a voice behind her, causing her to spin back to face the very place she had come from. "Oliver?" she asked, fully aware that the answer was, YES. *cough* "I never saw you before, but thank god you're here. I'm lost." Yes ladies and gentlemen, she was gonna be a big help in this task. "And you shouldn't eat too much of that sugar," Sarah commented, again scanning the directions they could take, and lazily poking his candy treat with her wand. "I'm not sure I want to be stuck in a maze with you if you're too twitchy." She'd heard from Miranda what he could be like. "Anyway," she clapped her hands together. "Which way? Left or right? I think I spotted a 2 that way," Another point of the wand, "and a 7 that way." She was wishing she had never come already. Thank god he was here? Oliver never EVER thought he would hear Sarah say something like that to him. It was kind of appreciated and he smiled at the Huffie in response. “I've been here the whole time..” Albeit sitting in the corner all bored and willing the lesson to just end. “S' kinda the point of a maze.” He replied amused to her comments about being lost. “If you could just walk out it would be just a road and not a maze.” He pointed out cheerfully.
He looked right and left, studying their options carefully as if his gut could just get them out of here. He had no clue.. but he wasn't going to say that to Sarah. He looked at her blankly but pulled a face when she started on about his sugar intake. Like, serrrrrriouslyyyy, it was ONE chocolate. “You're turning it into forbidden fruit.” He smirked. “One chocolate isn't going to do any harm.”
Twitchy? Did she really say that? Pout. It wasn't HIS fault he got twitchy. “Yes, mum. I wont eat any more after this one.” Pffft.
Urgh.. numbers each way. Oliver's eyes started to glaze over at the mere thought of them. He shook his head, grabbed hold of Sarah's arm and pulled her in the direction of the seven. “I always preferred odd numbers.” He had an affinity towards them because they were odd. Heh.

But then Trixie replied, so the Ravenclaw was done being mad at the slightly!evil maze. She nodded in agreement. "Yeah, it was." Regardless of who won, she'd had a great time playing that game.
Oh yes, now to decide which way to go. Hmm... "Eenie meenie..." Vashti began before deciding that would take to long and then pointed to the left path. "That way," she said, drawing her wand and walking on down.

Keefer stood in front of the giant number 2, waiting for another student to arrive. He wanted to test his theory that they had to go through in groups, or at least pairs.
Finally, he got tired of waiting.
"Hello? Will someone help me out here, please?"

With the walls and then the not actually knowing where you were going. She'd probably end up going around in circles and not even realizing it. That was common sense for ya. But still at least she had Vashti now so getting lost might be...Less easy. Then again, what with Spatulaclaw's evilness she might purposely get them lost. Oh goodness!
Especially seeing as the Slytherins gained all of those Green team members. "You know you loved the split second Slytheriness you had" she giggled. Trix had only turned red for a little bit of the game but remained mostly green. Still it was the most fun since... Well whenever the last time she had lots of fun was.
Her head flicked from side to side as she peered down both ways. Still no sign of the numbers though. Where were they hidden? But suddenly Vashti had ran off down to the left so she followed, quickening up her pace. She too drew out her wand just in case the number jumped out of no where.
MEEP!

Dramatic Pause....
Silence. Leilani continued running until she came to a dead end, at which she turned around and ran in the other direction. She stopped to catch her breath and noticed her candy had gone uneaten. Craziness. She tossed it in her mouth. And the second she did a large hooded type thing popped up from under the ground. "DON'T EAT MEEEEEEE!!" Leilani squeeled, waving her wand wildly with one arm and covering her head with the other.
Spell, spell, think of a spell... Aaaaaahhh!! She couldn't think of one. So instead she waved her wand and yelled, "POTATOSPOOF!" Ooooh, myyyyy. *facepalm* Teeny sparks flew out of the end of her wand and the thingy only got closer. "Uuuuh... RIDDIKULUS!!" The dark, hooded thing disappeared-- leaving a carved number seven on the ground where it had popped up.
Holy. Freaking. Cheese.

Ellie turned around. Oh. Table. Well. Heh.
She walked over to it and set the chocolate down. Now, if it was still there when she got out, in the classroom, she'd eat it. Just not now.
Then she turned back and ran after JD. She was not keen on straying too far away from him.

Well this seemed to be the easy route, there was nothing there. Literally it was just a load of walls and floor and a Giant number 7......
Wait! "Ahh" the Blonde jumped a little. She wasn't expecting that to turn around the corner, especially as she was just enjoying a leisurely stroll around the maze. Although that was what they were supposed to be doing and not just enjoying the walk. But that number 7 was intimidating and so, numbery. Why couldn't they have got the 2, at least that one was, well, even and not so intimidating with its sharp pointy edges. "Erm, I'm not quite sure. Something to do with knowing what the numbers mean and using that to fight it off...." Well that was the best explanation she could come up with at that current time. It sounded right, they were going with it. "Okay so what exactly does the Number Seven mean?" she asked her partner.

| y'all are doing fine =) YesJess! | Captain Goggles | Mama Badger | Eva's Soul Sister | An OG™ | It's all in the Numbers Josephina was of course waiting on the outside of the maze with the surprise, but she could still hear everything that was being discussed... And communicate with the students as necessary. If any of them tried to jinx others, she would know. The advantages of magic were awesome like that.
Sighing, she munched on some peppermint-chocolate as she listened for sounds of struggle. "Oh, if you run into a split in the maze... make sure you choose less traveled path." She grinned, speaking outloud to anyone who would listen. Or choose the most traveled path. Whichever. Deciding it was time for some confusion ... she lazily made the number nine float down in the maze.
It would land in front of some unsuspecting person or pair . . .

What? Maze? Oh no, Rae won't be able to get out! Not by herself at least. Before the lights went out she grabbed Salander's arm. She was not going to be alone in this. Then the lights went out, when they came back on Rae couldn't even recognize where she was, but she still had ahold of Salander's arm. Looking at him, it now occurred to her that this might be awkward, grabbing his arm and all.. "Er.. Nothing awkward alright? I just, don't think I could really do this." Stupid maze. It made her feel stupid. Once Rae was sure that they wouldn't end up somewhere else with a blink or something, she let go of him. "Yeah.. Er.. Let's go."

They were so smart these students - each of them offering different ideas about what they knew of each number. Jotting down a few ideas that she heard mentioned, she smiled in passing at some who seemed to have got into the discussion. "Yes... The number seven is supposedly one of the most powerful magical numbers out there." Fina began by way of interjecting the discussions going around. "I do believe some of this could be contributed to the analytical and mystical properties in that number. It tends to equate to terms such as solitude and wisdom and spiritual focus, which are terms that add magical strength to person. The more you analyze and research, the more you know. Knowledge goes in hand with research and studying." Duh.
The number two. "The number two; you all must have heard at some point that good things come in threes. But there is nothing more magical and special than the unity of two. Two has meaning of harmony and unity, which creates that magical bond of which nothing can stop.
The combination of a two plus a seven will equal nine, which in other words, completion. Wholeness. Which is one reason I love these two numbers. Because if they weren't special enough by themselves - which they are - then together, they signify complete and total universal oneness."
Now for the fun part of the lesson. "Before we begin the next part of the lesson, I'm going to pass around some peppermint chocolates, because I do believe the sugar can get the blood flowing..." With that, she passed some of the candies to each of the students. "In just a moment, you'll find yourselves surrounded by walls. You'll need to make your way out of the maze . . . BUT the catch is when you encounter a seven or a two blocking your path. When you come across one of these numbers, you will need to use your knowledge of the numbers to do something or wave something at the number to allow it to let you through."
With a flick of her wand, a moment later the lights flickered and then in another instant, the Arithmancy classroom was transformed into a giant maze (like this). OOC Notes:
* You could start from anywhere in the maze.
* RP yourselves making your way through the maze. Minimum of 5 posts for maximum credit
* Be creative with how you get by a two or seven; use the textbook for something related to these numbers to get by
* You have until 7pm EST on September 15th to complete this
* There will be a surprise waiting at the end of the maze (where the red dot is)
* Questions, then ask me.
* You need help? Use your wand to shoot red sparks to get the Professor's attention. Willow stood up and ate her chocolate. Yum. flash immediately the room turned into a maze. She looked left. Her instincts told her to go right. Heading to the right of the fork, she moved forward. boom Willow's first encounter with the number two. "Two people coming together makes doing a task so much easier," she said. bing Willow got to pass. She went forward and looked to her left. Dead end. She went forward. Turn to the left.
Standing there was a seven. Easy. "Seven is the most magical number there is," Willow said. bing She got to pass. Quote: Maze Route

Then she turned back and ran after JD. She was not keen on straying too far away from him. Smiling as his Ellie came running back to him. He nodded slightly, heading back into the maze. Going down the left hand path, he walks forward right before another break in the wall he walks into an invisible wall. "Umph..."
Backing away he wonders what was in front of them, glancing back at Ellie he looks back in front of them. Sticking his hand out he feels a wall of some sort Is it a trick... "Revelio!" he said tapping it with his wand. A number 7 appeared, in front of them.

Deeeeep Breath...
Okay. Leilani took off running again. Find the exit, find the exit, find the exit... Left, right, right, trip. Ugh, okay now there was stuff on her face. Wait, huh?!
But... She couldn't see her own face. Not until now. Basically, everything was double. Like standing in front of a mirror, but no mirror. Oooh snap again. Okay, think. The fifth year paced back and fourth, occasionally catching a glimpse of herself. Oookay. Lani shakily drew her wand and aimed it in front of her. "Reducto!"
There was a loud bang, but nothing moved. *inhale* Okay, just try again. Ermmm... "EVANESCO!" Her second self stayed there. Dang. Alright, third try. Think, two of them soooo....!! "Diffindo!" The invisible mirror smashed in half, crumbling to the ground-- leaving only a 2 in the dirt below her feet.

| Partner, someone? (: ¼ of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pls
Evan could hear people calling out for a partner. Standing there alone, he thought maybe he needed one too. After all, two people were always better than one. He didn't want to shout like the others did, though. Maybe he'd bump into someone...
Listening to what the professor said, he frowned. Why? What good would it make? Shrugging, he continued on his way and took right this time--which was less used, as it looked--and saw a 7 standing alone. And it didn't talk. Thinking for a few seconds, he made a 2 with his wand and sent it to the other number. Surprising, they gave way to him. Grinning to his own cleverness, he continued on his way. Yes, he was liking the maze so far.
