Default Age Line around the GoF

In the middle of the Entrance Hall, you can see the Goblet of Fire sitting on a table. Chalked in a neat line around the Goblet is an Age Line. Stand back and watch as your classmates put their names into the Goblet in hopes of becoming a Hogwarts champion.

OOC Note: This is the thread where you can RP observing the Goblet and putting your name into it. Be aware that if you cross the age line and are not of age, dire things may happen to you.

"That's all a matter of opinion, innit," he said, folding and unfolding his name. "I guess the Goblet gets to decide that in the end?"

She thought he should, though. It wasn't Neptune or Lexi or some other giggly person making eyes at him while egging him on to 'eternal glory'. Nia might have been smiling and excited, but her encouragement felt altogether different, and Raiden nodded.

He stepped over the line, up to the Goblet, and watched as the dancing flames devoured his name. Watching after it for a moment, almost amused, he wondered exactly how it chose. And who it would choose.

Stepping back across the line, he grinned at Nia and leaned toward her conspiritorially.

"If that thing somehow shoots one or both of our names out... let's make it fun, at least." He didn't know the chances of that happening, but if they ended up involved, then at least they should enjoy it, right? "Eternal glory be damned."

Who needed it. He glanced at Sabel again.

"If your name comes out... be careful?"

Gryffindor 'bravery' and all.
Nia shrugged. "I guess," she answered, watching him fiddle with the piece of paper. If he didn't decide quickly, there wouldn't be a piece of paper to put in the Goblet, the amount of times he seemed to fold and unfold it. "I dunno if the goblet can go with the general consensus, but if it did, I reckon you'd be pretty popular."

She nodded, glancing back at it. "Bit scary really, that a goblet decides who the Champions are. I want to know how it knows. If that makes sense." Could it know their skills, their strengths, their weaknesses? And even if it did, why was Nia wondering about it? She would either be Champion, or not be Champion. Simple.

She watched carefully as he added his name to the goblet. The flames danced and flitted about, and were quite mesmorising in their way. No wonder so many of the younger years were here to watch and wonder who might be their Champion.

Nia returned Raiden's grin, glad he'd put his name in too. "You betcha," she replied to his words with a wink. "Done deal." If this had a chance of being her replacement for Quidditch, she wanted it to be fun. Challenging, but enjoyable. And working with the Slythie Prefect? That'd be pretty cool. If her cheeks stayed in check, that was.

"Too right," she added. "Eternal glory be damned indeed." It was over-rated. Loving and living life was far more important. "Here's to the fun of taking part. And the adrenaline too."

Musing over Kellen's words about the Goblet, she almost missed the bit about using the mouse to test out the line's charms. Almost. "Don't use to mouse," She frowned slightly at the boy before her expression softened, settling on the white mouse. Educational or not, it was cruel. "We need to find some willing underaged student to test out line, not a cute little mouse."
"I'm sure he'd be fine, Puck's supercoolbeanz, he lets me do everything to him." (If Puck could understand English, he would probably be holding up a 'DEAR MERLIN PLEASE HELP ME' sign right about now.) Eli shrugged. "Well, I know I'm willing to try if we can get two others. So it's a valid test."

Professor Maximus Vindictus would undoubtedly admire his fantastic academic curiousity and award him 50 points. Maybe 100. He was suave like that.

Purple head was talking to her.

Raising a brow as he spoke, and continued to speak, Evelyn stood up to her full 5 foot 4 inches height (so scary i know), arms still crossed, and stared at the kid. Did he forget who he was talking to? Him being a Ravenclaw an all, this was a pretty stupid move.

"Why don't you yourself just walk up and stick your name in? Use an aging potion or something." Hehe, of course, it would be highly unlikely that it would work. The headmaster wouldn't be stupid enough to overlook a simple aging potion. Besides, she really wanted to know what would happen to someone too young that crossed the line.

Eli's jaw dropped. He had been preoccupied with Puck and hadn't recognized... "She-snake!" he hissed under his breath, eyes narrowed. "You better watch you don't do anything to me or maybe I'll SHOVE you over the age line!"

Amber sat on one of the wooden benches in the hall, watching as people put their names into the goblet. She sighed. She was old enough to cross the line, but wasn't really the overly brave/reckless type. Sure, she loved playing pranks and breaking the rules... but this was different. She sighed, putting her chin in her hand. She was bored as ever and needed someone to talk to. There were plenty of kids her age here, even a few foreign students, but she needed to find the right person. Who could that be?

Leilani stared at the cup with wide eyes. She wasn't old enough. She still had at least another year or two and by then she wouldn't even be able to put her name in the cup because there would be no cup.

*le siiiigh*

However, she did want to run up to that line and see how far back it would throw her. Oh, she would do it. Totally. There's no way she wouldn't. But she needed a witness in case a Professor showed up. She'd hurt herself, no doubt, but it would be FUN.

Psh... WEIRDO.

Speaking of purple head, what did he just say to her? She-snake!? Was he the one that started that dang nickname!!!??

"Shove me over the age line? I don't think you and your little wimpy body can even budge me an inch." she laughed, sizing him up. Bahahaha! Less then an inch even. Half a centimeter?

Well, his expression definitely made her amused. It's like he had a memory charm placed on him over the summer and then he suddenly realized who he was talking to. Well duh, he should've recognized her a mile away! That way she wouldn't have had to stand here and talk to him.

She said to both Treyen and the Ravenclaw girl, still wanting to see someone underage cross the line.

Her eyes flicked from the Ravenclaw girl to Kellen when he told a shortened version of the story. She knew what had really killed Cedric, and his retelling didn't convince her that Sabel should be a Triwizard Champion. "Just because he didn't die from the tournament doesn't mean he couldn't have." She mumbled eyes floating back to the cup.

The girl also knew that if Sabel was chosen he would have to participate, whether he had a change of heart or not. There was no point in her trying to convince him that the tournament was too dangerous.

Besides it wasn't guaranteed that Sabel would be one of the champions picked. Lots of students were entering their name into the cup, so his chances were slim.

Arya looked around them when Sabel gave introductions, but who was he giving them to? The Ravenclaw girl? No, he was speaking to Treyen, and it made her grin a little. "I already know Treyen." He was her soon to be skating buddy. Hehe.

Her eyes drifted over to Raiden, curious as to what had brought him to the cup. Was he here for the reasons Kellen was or Sabel's. Apparently Sabel's as she watched the boy walk the line and enter his name in the cup. That was two of her friends willing to risk their life for eternal glory and a shiny cup. The chances of one of them getting picked were getting higher.

Slipping from in between Sabel and Kellen, she moved over to Raiden to give him hugs. "Both of you should be careful." She wasn't to keen on losing any friends this term.

He turned at Sabel's call and grinned at Raiden. Another of his friends was putting their name in! Suddenly he was conflicted, and he tapped a finger off his chin as he considered his options, "Well now I'm not sure what to do... maybe you two could decide on a common pompom colour." Because he didn't think it would be possible for him to shake four at the same time.

"Just because our train didn't crash on the way here, doesn't mean it couldn't have," Kellen returned cheerfully to Arya. Though really, he was pretty sure the Hogwarts Express had about a billion charms on it to prevent such a thing.

Interesting theory. Kellen considered it before answering, "I don't think so. The Goblet probably has some modified charms on it to ensure that the name on the parchment came from that same person's hand. Even if it did select your name, it might magically bind the mouse into the contract of champions, and not you."

As far as the levitation went, Kellen had a theory about that too, "It might, that's true, but it's also possible that the Age Line will pick up on the levitation charm and backfire the effects of crossing it onto the caster of the spell."

Maybe he was over-analyzing it, maybe not.

They'll never know.

Unless...his eyes went over to a girl who spoke about Harry Potter's times. True, that had happened.

On the other hand, Treyen eyed the Ravenclaw boy while he spoke of Cedric, "He was still competing in the Tournament" whether if was Voldemort who killed, that was another thing, but he was still competing.

But, ooooh, lookit! It was the dog!boy, and the dog!boy was also thinking of entering his name? Was the Head Boy thinking that Arya was the Goblet of Fire? Because the Goblet was the other way around, and his eyes seemed rather lost in thought. Maybe he got confused, the dog!boy.

Ack! Treyen didn't enjoy being reminded of that class. Pixie!Diggy was mean. And still owed him a butterbeer.

Introductions! The little Huffie boy had his eyes on the Gryffindor one as he introduced them all. Ahhhh, so the dog!boy was named Raiden...oh, well, that explains it, Professor Kingsley had called him by his name in that class, and Treyen thought he only meant the boy was a Raider.

"I already know Arya" he said, almost at the same time as Arya told Sabel that she knew him. Haha. Funny.

And then Raiden placed his name between the blue flames of doom.

Awesomeness!

And he agreed with Arya, "Whether we all know that death could be around somewhere..." he couldn't help to think of Durmstrang, "...the most important thing is that you do what feels right, whether for fun or knowledge..." or eternal glory, and a pretty shiny cup, yes, cups were shiny, "...and try to think of the best possible way to gain life experience from the challenges" he said, with a smile, to both the boys who'd put their names in the Goblet, "And possibly win, because we all want Hogwarts to win" yeah, he wasn't entering, so all he wanted was that, seeing Hogwarts win, no?

Arya was liking Treyen more and more, he knew exactly was she meant. Something bad always happened in the tournament, and something bad was always happening at Hogwarts. The two were just a bad combination.

"The chances of someone getting hurt in the tournament are greater than the chances of the train crashing." She responded cheerfully, though not as cheerfully as he had. There was no changing her opinions about the tournament, and there was no way she was gonna stop worrying about her friends that entered.

"....I do want Hogwarts to win." She added belatedly, looking at Treyen. Just not at the expense of her friends.

Arya hugs 'round his middle. Raiden snuggled the little girl until she pulled away and went off to talk at someone, a slight smile tugging at his lips. She was already worried about everyone? It wasn't like the Goblet was going to choose all of them. It would only spit out a certain number of names; the chance that his name would be one of them was slim. She didn't need to worry so much, but... he could see why she was.

I mean, Sabel had put his name in. Dakest. That he had gotten so close to the Goblet was, in itself, dangerous.

"I... what?" he eyed Kellen Stern. "Pompoms? What would you need pompoms for."

Kellen Stern was definitely no cheerleader. To think of him trying to be one was just... utterly disturbing. Raiden turned his attention to Treyen, giving the boy a quick nod. One of the things he remembered most vividly about the class last term was Treyen's... errrr... fear of the students turned into animals. Raiden had been human at that point again, after all. And poor Treyen had been harassed by creatures left and right.

Everyone seemed so inclined to discuss the option of dying.

"After recent times, I think we're covered on death for quite a while," he said, trying for levity. "I don't think anyone putting their name in is doing so rashly."

Save Dakest. Raiden patted his shoulder. He'd better not die if his name popped out. Really. It would be such a black mark on Raiden's last year in school.

Arya was really worried. Poor little Puff. Raiden frowned and gave her a nudge.

"Don't worry so much. You know the chances of either mine or Sabel's name coming out of there? Not extraordinarily high, considering. There's probably a fair few names in there already."

His attention went back to Nia, and he felt his own face going a bit pink. This was not how it was supposed to work. This was completely backwards. Nia was the one that turned pink.

"Dunno that I'd be able to agree with you on that point, either. Seems like there's plenty of people better known than I am."

No, that was a lie. He was well-known. Mostly for potions accidents and bodily transfigurations. Maybe for being one of the two students hospitalised two terms ago. A bit for the prefect badge he'd carried for three years now. His name was known (and probably mispronounced) by quite a few. But he'd never considered it 'popularity'.

"It's probably some... really ridiculous spell," he murmured, eyes turning back to the goblet. "Your name links to you, and it burns it up and knows something about you, or something. Who knows. Magic works in strange ways sometimes."

If he were picked... he'd definitely want to know why, though. What he had, and what the goblet saw in him, that others didn't.

"Adrenaline used to be a bad thing for me." The comment was punctuated with a laugh. "Merlin, it... it feels good to want it and actually be able to have it. I like being able to even consider the possibility of being involved."

Kellen couldn't say that Eli's plan was foolish, but it certainly wasn't foolproof either, and there was no way Kellen was going to be that of-age student putting someone else's name in the cup. For all he knew, the consequences of that would be worse than a firstie crossing the line.

"Arya's right," Kellen poked her in the side of the head again. "Whoever heard of using a mouse for experiments? What outlandish thinking." Poke poke.

But then things started to be all insults and such, and Kellen felt the need to throw in a cautionary word, "Keep throwing insults like that and you'll get a professor around here right quick. That'll send your experiment right out the window, Eli."

At the loony bin ❣ Ubiquitous ❣ Brain!nvader ❣ !Wake The Dead¡

It was always nice to sit and watch people, random people, in this case students. They were always very special in their own little ways. Well in this case it was fun to watch the anglo-saxons and french wonder around the castle.

Louvain stood far enough from the age line to watch everyone but not be in everyone else's way. So she stood there and nosely watched students who enrolled themselves while enjoying a can of live jelly worms.

Age line. Age line. AGE LINNEEE. Oh why was he here? Legend looked around to make sure that Danika wasn't here watching him. That would bad, but he wasn't going to put his name in anyways. He already had a plan. Walking up as close to the front as he could get (people were so rude they wouldn't let him by!) the Gryffindor noticed a girl about his age quietly standing close by just watching. "Did you put your name in it?"

Marie was walking through the entrance hall past the Goblet of Fire when she seen purple hair... and Evelyn.

WHAT!?

"I'd like to see you try to push her over that line you little freak. You're not brave enough to do something like that." Pfft, the little freak was running from GIRLS last term... the little coward.

"Did you put your name in it?"

Her eyes were fixed forward but it was the first thing in her body that moved sideways to the voice beside then turned her head to find a boy around her age. Shaking her head at his question, "no I haven't I'm only fifteen" she answered that but if age wasn't a problem her weight was. She was sure the Goblet would eliminate her, she can barely chase Billy Bob anymore let alone whatever the challenges were. No, a definite no.

"Are you? I mean, did you put your name down?" she hoped he did. If anyone should win it should be Hogwarts. Not for looks or muscle power.

Ohh! So this girl couldn't get in either. Did he know anyone that could? "Erm-....not exactly." Cupping his neck with his hand Legend looked around to make sure that no one was listening. He moved closer to the girl so she would be able to hear what he was saying. "I'm only 14- but i'm in fifth year! My birthday is in 3 days." He whispered. "But erm- told this girl from Durmstrang that I was entering. So I gotta look like I am ya' know?" And then he would just say that he didn't get picked! Genius! "I'm Legend Chosen by the way, what's your name?"

She quirked a brow then looked at him curiously for a moment, was he serious about his name or was it real? Ehh. Tough one. She should know given she was a Ravenclaw, but most things weren't clear when it came to people. But since she just met the boy it wouldn't be too nice to ask him if his name was real or not, but if he was implying differently she would find out. There! Solved it.

She smiled at him, "now why would you do that?" she asked in full amusement, "not that I'm going to say anything, but wouldn't she find out when she attends the same classes as yours that your not seventeen?" but hey he was a Gryffindor thing. "I'm Louvain Louis" she added her name with a ginger grin as if it completed the name.

Oh! The poor mouse!

It was his time to talk now, "I don't think it'll work with the mouse" he said, shaking his head as some kind of expert, "It'll probably run away scared...and the line might not work with rodents" because, see, rodents were different than humans, weren't they?

"Maybe if you turn yourself into a mouse..." no-oh he wasn't giving the boy any ideas, so he stopped talking.

Treyen couldn't help to be slightly terrified at the first year, though, who in their right mind would mess with that tall girl from Slytherin? She was mean, and evil, or so Treyen thought. After all, she and her friends had made Jake cry, no? His eyes went from the Slytherin to the first year boy, and then to Arya, and then to the Slytherin girl, and then to Raiden and Kellen.

Pompons!

"Can you make the pompons do that?" he asked, his face turned to Kellen now, "How?" because the boy was totally interested in this now, never mind the mouse.

Default Tee hee. xD
Jimbo will set his turtle loose on you. { The Farley } "That's trademarked, don't use it."

The professors went on and on about how underage students shouldn't cross the ageline. As Jimbo stood watching students one after another cross the line and put their name in the cup he couldn't help but wonder what exactly would happen if he did.

Because nobody ever mentioned that. And if he got in trouble, so what? The curiousity really was eating him up. Though he only stared now, eventually if he stood here long enough the curiousity would be too much to bear and he'd walk right into the forbidden area.

Then he started thinking about whether he would put his name in if he were actually eligible. Well, he is crazy, isn't he? There was no doubt about it, were he of age he would put his name in there happily. After all, it's a load of fun with lots of risk and a great prize. Win/win situation, no? Well, to Jimbo it is. Sounds like fun.

Okay, he'd stood watching long enough. Looking around to see if there were any teachers - not that it would stop him - he walked right up to the age line and crossed the thing.

"I have no clue really. Just wanted to seem a bit cooler with all the hype of the tournament."Hmm. Wait. That made sense. Legend pondered this for a second. What would he do then?

Gah! He should have never lied in the first place!

"Well..if I sit far away from her then...she'll never have to know.Duh." There. It made sense. This girl should know that she was a Ravenclaw! Louvain? That was a name that he had never heard before. "Do you know if you like, switch your names it could be a boy name?" Just saying.

Now why would he go and say something like that? "But, i thought Gryffindors were always the cool bunch?" she smiled then tilted her head thoughtfully, "I doubt so" she answered thoughtfully, then laughed. "No i haven't thought about that before" she patted him lightly on the shoulder, "Your funny!" she added on then collected herself. "So any predictions on who would enter? Have you met any of those foreigners? other than the girl?"

Amber's eyes widened and her mouth fell into a comical O as she watched an obviously underage boy cross the age line. Had he really just done that? Did he know how much trouble that was going to get him in? Or worse, what the professors themselves would do to him? She waited to see what would happen, watching the boy with interest. He only looked one or two years younger than her, but he definitely wasn't 17. She smiled. He was braver than all those other kids putting their names in. He was brave enough to face the wrath of all the professors combined into one angry mass of rage.

"Arya's right," Kellen poked her in the side of the head again. "Whoever heard of using a mouse for experiments? What outlandish thinking." Poke poke.

"I don't know," She looked at the cute little mouse. "He looks really scared." Terrified really. Peeking over at Treyen, she nodded her head in agreement. "I don't think it will work with rodents either. Cause its a line for humans and all so we won't get to see the effects of the charm." Not to mention it would be cruel to use the poor mouse for their own curiosity.

Kellen's pokes coaxed a grin out of Arya, and she used one hand to fend off his attacking hand. The other she used to poke him repeatedly in the side, since he was too tall for her to poke in the head.

Turn the boy into a mouse.....that would be interesting to watch.

Don't worry so much. That....was gonna be difficult for her to do. Impossible really. She couldn't help but not worry about her two friends. The stories, man. She heard them all.

Swaying slightly from Raiden's nudge, she shrugged her shoulders and leaned against him, crossing her arms. "Its still possible." The puff would enjoy the tournament much more if her friends were in the stands with her.

Something Treyen and Kellen said caught her attention and she tilted her head to the side. "Your making talking Pompoms?" She wanted one. A shiny one.

OHmygosh. That kid just CROSSED THE LINE! Eli's fight with the snakes was forgotten entirely for the moment as he watched, fascinated, to see what would happen.

This girl. WAS SMARTTT!!

"We are the cool bunch. But it couldn't hurt to be a little cooler." Legend said with a wink. Lion pride!! He loved being a Gryffindor really. If he was in any other house....

Wait..being a Slytherin might be cool.

"I'm funny? Well...thanks?" It was just something he noticed about her name! Buutt he could never reject a compliment. "Not really no. I don't know many seventh years or sixth years...so...I could really only guess. And the foreigners? There's this brah from Beauxbatons in our common room, I never really spoke to him yet because he seems really stuck up. Have you met any?" Legend said allowing the Hawaiian lingo he learned recently to escape. "Hey...wouldn't it be awesome if like...you just tried to enter?"

~ Rise and Rise Again, Until Lambs become Lions ~

He had zoned out, or something. He wasn't entirely sure where his mind had gone to as he vaguely listened to and watched the motions of his friends. There was a lot of talk about death, pompoms and mice, a rather strange conversation, but given the group of students, perhaps not that strange. All in all, everyone seemed pretty normal around the goblet; Raiden was being his responisble self, Arya was worrying, Kellen was throwing wit left right and center, and Treyen seemed to be well...interested in everything.

Shaking his head a little, he brought his thoughts back around and gave Raiden a small smile. There was something about being careful and not dying. "You're starting to sound a lot like Headmaster Tate." Which wasn't a bad thing at all. He gave the Slytherin a return pat on the shoulder. "You be careful too." Because despite Raiden being level-headed and thoughtful, he had a spark of Gryffindor-stupidity in him as well, though for him it would be better described as unquenchable courage.

For the others, he simply gave them a small smile, Arya a weaker stretched one. He knew she was worried, but he didn't really see the point. There was no telling what names would come out of the Goblet, and worrying about something that was founded on chance was simply pointless. "Creator of the Goblet of Fire and matching sets of pompoms. Sounds like you have a business ready to go." He mused to Kellen instead, giving the other boy a weak smile.

So, Danika was on her way up the stairs until she noticed someone standing pretty close to the Goblet.

He'd been telling the truth all along? Not likely.

For a moment there she was going to keep on going and ask him later, but wasn't it better to ask him now? She chose to ask him right away, which is why she changed her path and stood beside Legend for a couple seconds before speaking her mind, or her question..."Have you tried to enter your name yet, Legend? After all, you are seventeen, are you not?" she used the boy's words and simply kept on eying him before giving another glance at the Goblet.

Not to mention it would be cruel to use the poor mouse for their own curiosity.

The mouse? The mouse? Which mouse? Oooooh, Treyen didn't notice the mouse, he just thought they were talking about getting a mouse and then make the thing go through the age line.

But the poor little thing looked beyond scared...it was terrified. And probably dying of terror.

Apparently, the mouse was going to die before any of the Champions had the opportunity for it.

Treyen's eyes widened. It was a great idea, of course, turning one self into a mouse...as long as you had someone to change you back...otherwise...mental shudder. He didn't want to think of that. The point was that Treyen had great ideas, perhaps awesome ones, too.

He nodded at Arya, and shook his head at the first year boy. He was crazy...screaming to Slytherins like that. Tsk. Tsk. He was asking for it.

Treyen turned to Arya. "If he is making those...then I want one" he'd be cheering from the Stands, "And they'd be awesome if you wanted to close your eyes and couldn't...you know, just place them in front of your face and that's it" he waved his arms as if demonstrating the pompoms maneuver.

And they kept talking about being careful. "Yeah, whoever gets chosen...whenever they get chosen...should be careful...until then, we just wait" hopefully they didn't understand that they were meant to wait right here, the waiting was only mentally.
