In the middle of the Entrance Hall, you can see the Goblet of Fire sitting on a table. Chalked in a neat line around the Goblet is an Age Line. Stand back and watch as your classmates put their names into the Goblet in hopes of becoming a Hogwarts champion.
OOC Note: This is the thread where you can RP observing the Goblet and putting your name into it. Be aware that if you cross the age line and are not of age, dire things may happen to you.
When Liz entered the room, she stopped and took on a composed and polite expression. Most of the people in the room were older than her, so she didn't want them to think her childish. No, no, not at all.
She looked over the many heads and saw... the Goblet! Oo, there it was! Liz had to really try not to jump up and down.
"Pam! There it is! Let's go!" Her face was contorted with hyper excitement as she walked, with great posture, up to the Goblet, tugging Pam along.
Liz took it all in once the reached it. A white chalk line was drawn around the table that was host to the Goblet itself. It wasn't the shining bejewled gold that she had imagined, in fact, it looked quite old. That was even better! What was fascinating was the gentle fire spitting out of the brim. It was green, blue, and purple, all at the same time. It was hypnotizing, and Liz found herself gazing intently at it.
She voiced her thoughts to Pam, "It's not what I imagined, really. I think it kinda takes on a... wise, majestic look, you know? Isn't that fire cool? I've never seen anything like it!" Her eyes traveled down until they reached the chalk line, "What do you think would happen if we crossed that line?" she asked, pointing to it. Liz wasn't up for trying, no, she was rather cautious, but she wanted to see someone do it. Preferably not from her own house, because that could get points taken away.
Pam walked into the great hall with Liz. Wow. "Yea I know! Let's go-" Before she could even finish her sentence, Pam was pulled through people to the front. Right in front of the age line. Pam giggled a bit, cause Liz looked a little funny trying to look older. She stopped almost imediatly, afraid it affended her friend.
"Well, I wouldn't want to cross it. I mean we could get shot backwards or something. And get points taken away. I mean have you seen? Slytherin is the ONLY house without negitive points. Grrrr." She sighed and looked up at the goblet, In sort of a trance. The fire was a pretty color. Blue-y, green-y and purple-y all in one. She watched as a few more people entered their name in the goblet.
"Why would people want to enter their name? I mean it's dangerous!! I wouldn't want to do it. Nope nope nope." Again she shivered at the thought of her friend Ty entering.

Emma stayed outside the Age Line and waited for David to catch up. He could enter because he was going to be seventeen in two days. She took a seat and waited for him to put his name into the goblet. She pulled out her book, which was in her bag, and started to read some of it.

David, while smiling, walked in with the piece of parchment in his hand. He had written his name on it and strode confidently towards the cup to put his name in. He was ready for this. He was so ready for this. He hoped he got in.
Once putting his name in, he walked over to Emma, still pretty confident. "Hey." he said, with a grin. "What are you reading?" he asked, taking a seat by her. Maybe they'd see some more people.
Mmmm. The adrenaline thing. Raiden nodded and tapped his chest, as if this was all that was needed to explain it. For a handful of people, it would have been, but... well. Not many people knew about it, did they. Especially since it wasn't a real problem anymore...
"My heart. When I was born, there were... a lot of problems with it. For a long time, I couldn't handle a lot of stuff... being surprised, being scared, stuff like that." Half-smiling, he shrugged and wrinkled his nose. "It was like, to the point where I could have died from it. But over the past few years, it's gotten a lot better. They told me it's not even a problem anymore."
He gestured to the Goblet.
"Obviously it's not, I mean I put my name in there didn't I. But my mum was even against me trying out Quidditch, because of it." He was probably oversharing, and there was a belated thought that she was probably going to look at him funny over it, but he hadn't thought about that. "I think I can handle waiting. As long as it's not for too long."
Pause.
He leaned closer to her.
"Don't tell anyone about that?" Not that it would be a bad thing for people to know, and Merlin knew it might be common knowledge for some. But he didn't need the whole 'Raiden could have died without being an idiot' thing going around.
Eli's attention was distracted for a moment by the Snake prefect, who was talking to some girl. The purple-haired eavesdropper overheard only snippets of the conversation in the crowd:
My heart... problems... couldn't handle a lot.... could... die... not... trying out for Quidditch, because of it. I think... not too long. Don't tell anyone."
Oh, innnnteresting. He kept his eyes on the cup, not looking at the tragic Snake Prefect. The little Ravenclaw's eyes were wide. Soooo.. The Slytherin Prefect had heart problems. And he wouldn't be trying out for Quidditch because of it... and he might not be around for too long. But no one was supposed to know?
WOW. Oh, WOW. Eli's mind worked it out quickly, inventing information to fill in what he did not know:
The Slytherin Prefect was DYING of an incurable heart problem. He wasn't supposed to play Quidditch and couldn't handle much at all, and he didn't have much time to live. He should actually be in hospital, probably. And it was a SECRET.
Just wait until he told Ellie this!
Eli wondered if Professor Vindictus knew. The Slytherins would do ANYTHING to win- what if the Prefect tried to play anyway? He could die on the pitch!
Eli had to tell Professor Vindictus, to save the Prefect from his own Slytherin Ambition.
He put Puck the mouse back into his pocket, waiting to talk to Adrienne so he could go see Professor Vindictus. He kept glancing over at the Prefect, though, and staring at him. He couldn't help it. What if the kid keeled over dead right there on the spot?

As Carson's eyes briefly left the boy beside her and scanned the hall, she saw a familiar face walk in and eventually start talking to someone she grinned and shouted, "Hey, Sam!" with a wave, not really caring who heard or saw. She was just outgoing and bubbly like that. Deal.

The girl watched Jimbo with her arms crossed as he practically BEGGED the teacher... Kid was actually mental.
Well, at least it was more than 50 words.
And in about 20 seconds.
Jimbo's explaination FOR THE WIN. Hehe.
"Uh..." Okay, what the heck was she meant to say to the fact that Jimbo seemed to be getting SMALLER. Iris watched her friend as he started to grow FEATHERS. What on Earth?!
O______________O ...
...
Watching Jimbo turn into a bird was simply FREAKY. And that beak was incredibly long and pointy.
O_O ... Jimbo, don't you dare come and poke me with your beak, her eyes seemed to warn.
Iris looked from the little green bird on the ground, to the professor and back again.
Iris looked at the Professor as she begun to ask who the bird belonged to. And then her eyes got wiiiiiiide when the lady said something about Birdy!Jimbo being eaten by a cat.
OOOOOH NOOOO! That was bad. Jimbo COULDN'T get eaten by a CAT.
Okay, the teacher was telling someone else off now. Iris looked to Leilani and smirked. Then she crouched down and scooped the bird up. As she stood up, Iris held Birdy!Jimbo at face level
"Y'know Jimbo... I've always wanted a pet bird. Maybe we'll just keep you like this." Hehehe. Iris petted Birdy!Jimbo's head. GRIIIIN. Iris faced Leilani, glancing back down at Jimbo's robes on the floor. "So Leilani, Shall we keep him like this for a while, take him to Lafay or take him to Kingsley?" Because... Lafay was their HoH. Kingsley was the Transfiguration teacher, and would be able to change him back.
O_______o
Leilani gaped. Oh nooooooow he was in for it. Dude! Jimbo was a freaking bird!! It was almost hysterical actually, though it scared her. This teacher was almost worse than Lafay... No, not possible.
She had to stifle a laugh as Iris asked what they were going to do with him. "Lafay." Mabey that would teach him not to mess with age lines. Although so far, being turned into a bird was working out alright.
Suddenly, Lani felt a newfound respect for this teacher. Y'know, even though she had turned Jimbo into a green birdey... That kinda added to the respect factor though.

What?! But Ravenclaw HAD to win! "You mean Slytherin is in the lead so far? Grrrr indeed! How can we get house points?" asked Liz with a look of pure determination on her face, "We should go check out the house points next." Liz turned to Pam, but she seemed hypnotized at the fire. Well, probably not death, but still! Pam seemed to agree with her, too, "I wouldn't either! I'm waaay too cautious for that! I'm more of a spectator. I like to watch and cheer on my team."
Liz watched a few more people put their names into the flaming goblet when a thought occurred to her; what if the victor from Hogwarts was from Ravenclaw? "What if the person for Hogwarts is from our house? I think I would be proud. But super worried. Which house do you think is most likely to win?"

"That would be sooo cool!!! I think we'd win. But ya know, anything can happen." She sighed. She watched as yet another boy put in his name. What were these people doing!? What if they got hurt?? She sighed yet again.
"You said you wanted to go look at the house points? Can we go now? I mean, as much as I'd love us to win and all, this is giving me very bad vibes." Tears started forming in her eyes, she whiped them away hoping they didn't show. She didn't know why, she guessed it was because the thought of dieing scared her. That and hights. She shivered again, Is it really this cold? she thought.
Was he really doing this? Was he really going to put his name in the Goblet of Fire, hoping to be chosen to be Hogwarts' champion? Well, he was almost eighteen years old. And this opportunity was an once-in-a-lifetime thing. So he couldn't pass it up.
Honestly, Kel was more than a little scared as he stepped unceremoniously over the age line. He stood in front of the goblet for a long while, before dropping a piece of parchment into the flames.

Now, he would be the champion, or not. Honestly, he didn't know which one he hoped for more. But, at least he gave it a go.

It was obvious that Pam was really uncomfortable here. In fact, she said it. Liz looked at her friend, worried, just in time for her to see Pam wipe away a tear. Wow, this really was affecting her.
This time it was Pam that was in need of a hug, "It's okay," said Liz, draping an arm around her, "Let's go see the points." She gave Pam a squeeze and began to walk her over to the hourglass. She really needed a distraction. 'If just seeing people put their names in hurts her this much, I can't imagine what it'll be like when the tournament really begins.' Liz pondered.

She felt comferted when Liz gave her a hug. "Yes, lets."
Brittany walked towards the goblet of fire, but careful enough not to get close to the stupid age line, for her daily look at the goblet. She saw lots of other students there as well. She looked to see if there were people she knew but no such luck
Treyen widened his smile. Now he wanted those pompoms!
"That's...amazing...I want one of those" perhaps he'd said that again, but little did he care about repeating the awesomeness.

"I can help," She offered, ceasing her attack on Kellen. "I'm good at charms." Much better than she was at transfigurations. If she really thought about it, she wasn't too bad in that subject either. Working with Professor Carlton would be fun though.
"Excellent." Kellen grinned at both of them. Really, it didn't matter if Raiden wasn't paying attention any more, because Raiden wanted to be a champion, didn't he? This was for the people who weren't going to be champions, and therefore they were allowed to be more enthusiastic about it. "We should probably wait until the first-of-the-term mob has cleared out, and then go talk to Professor Carlton."
Really, Kellen wasn't much for going to see professors right at the beginning of the school term, before classes had even started. That was when the new students and the keeners went, and from where he was standing if he were a professor there could only be so many times he could outline the curriculum before he started getting annoyed. Hence leaving a letter for a certain professor, instead of asking outright.

Kellen gave Arya another nudge. Was it house-dependent? Would she turn into a canary? These were all questions that needed an answer!

Skye decided to come down and watch the foreign students and the of-age Hogwartians put their names in. Maybe this way she'd get a better idea of who was and was not from Hogwarts. And plus, she wanted a chance to speak French, so she might as well try and talk to someone from Beauxbatons. For some reason, she didn't feel as shy around the foreign visitors.
She sat down on the floor, but out of the way of the hopeful people entering their names, and well away from the Age Line. She had no desire whatsoever to enter. Oh sure, it'd be cool to get chosen, and cooler still to win, but she wasn't old enough yet and anyway, she'd rather stay safe her first year here.
He couldn't stop staring at the Slytherin Prefect. He knew it was rude but he just couldn't stop. He didn't want to miss it if the boy keeled over or something. Stare stare staaaaaare.
It was therefore rather ironic that his preoccupation with the Prefect, coupled with a poor vantage point, meant he missed the boy transforming into a bird altogether. Pity.
Hugo looked at the Goblet. He was so lucky to be able to see this tournament. For a couple of minutes, he just stared at the Goblet as people (tried to) put their names in it.
He took a journal out his bag and started to draw the goblet.

Lina was walking away when she got sight of a guy staring at Raiden. And as she watched, brow raised... he just kept staring. What in the world was he doing?! It wasn't that strange that Raiden was over here. Determined, brow lowering into a more serious gaze, she made her way over, stood on her toes, and THWAPED the boy upside the head. "Just what are you staring at?"

Emma saw an older boy enter his name. She turned to David. "Be back in a minute." she said and smiled at him. She walked over to this guy.
"Hey! Just wanted to say good luck." she said, giving him a friendly smile. "I don't think we've met before. I'm Emma." She gave him a smile.
Emma looked up and saw David taking a seat next to her. "Hey. Uhh.. Just a regular book. You know.." she explained. She flipped the front cover to show him. He'd probably tease her about this for the next few days.. maybe even for the rest of the year.
David laughed. "Quidditch through the Ages?? Isn't that like the millionth time you've read it??" he asked. Emma had read that book a ton of times. He grinned at her, while he teased her. Oh Emma... he sighed.
Then she was up and went over to another guy. Fratenizing with the enemy, are we?, he thought good naturedly. He laughed to himself and watched her talk to him.

She usually was very shy but when it came to drawing she wasnt. "What's that your drawing there?" she said hoping it didnt sound rude.

Kel turned, surprised, when he heard his nickname. He hadn't before registered who was here. "Thanks!" he said, his smile getting bigger when he recognized a friend. YAY he had support! Not that it would do much unless he actually got chosen, but still, it was nice.

When the Bird!Jimbo was picked up, it seemed very startled. Was he going to get hurt?
As Giant!Monty and Giant!Leilani conversed, Bird!Jimbo hopped around on the hands holding him up, looking between the both of them.
O_o
Nuuu! They were plotting against him! He had to escape, he had to leave!
Spreading out his wings, the green bird tried to take off. Flap, flap, flap. But it wasn't entirely working. Panicking now, it started chirping loudly, demanding to be put down so he could at least run away. And in case that didn't work, he started pecking at the hands he stood on. Not hard, but enough to sting.
But he couldn't wait for the hands to drop him. Jumping off of them and onto the ground, the cute little bird ran away down the hallway, holding it's wings out beside him, taking off into the air after gaining enough speed.
