But, wait...was the ingredients list in order? Because if they were, then the Professor missed to add the shrivelfigs. Well, it's not like he was going to be the one to point it out. Nope. He'll keep quiet, he didn't want to upset anyone right now. He only wanted to Cleeeeeeeeean. He cleaned the knife too, because Lafay liked things cleaned. That's why he took two showers before coming to the class. And now, Treyen took the knotgrass, and the cleaned knife, and...chop, chop, chop. Well, not 'chop, chop, chop', but lay, lay, lay...slide, slide, slide...yes, like demonstrated, because he was a good boy. |
Destiny was trying reallllllllly hard to ignore the talk about the Phoenix and it's tears, she was. And she was doing a good job of ignoring this until Lafay walked to Raiden and whispered. Of course, being the nosy Say whaaaat? Lafay was joking, right? Joking just to get Raiden to be quiet about the Phoenix so the whole class wouldn't burst into tears over the TRAGIC tale, RIGHT!? Wrong. With a quick peek in the direction of Raiden and Lafay, Destiny could see the woman was serious. Would she even be able to take Raiden out of the Tournament? Probably not, but being the gullible girl she was, she thought it possible. If Lafay took Raiden out of the Tournament, it would be a sure loss for Hogwarts Turning back to her station, Destiny started on the next step of this potion. Wiping off her knife, she pulled the knotgrass closer and started to cut it like the demonstration. Pffffft. |

Alice watched Professor Lafay cut the knotgrass and made a note of it in her notebook. Then Alice took out her knife and cut the knotgrass the same way Professor Lafay had, making sure she didn't cut the same spot twice or her fingers. Once she was done (which took a couple of minutes) she waited for Professor Lafay to give the next set of instructions. |
It was twittle bit scary the way Lafay was talking to Raiden. Not just a little bit.. but A LOT. Why was she so evasive, huh? Shifty shifty? The redhead, despite this, followed her instruction and sliced her knotgrass from left to right without slicing in the same place. Like that, right? She didn't want to mess up and have to call her to ask to check. She was scary. And then when the step was done, she placed it beside her and picked up her quill to update her parchment note taking. SPOILER!!: Cameron's notes But she decided to live up to the Gryffindor spirit and be courageous. "Umm.. Professor.. would that be right?" *gulp* |
SPOILER!!: Lafay, Raiden and Fletcher Salander glanced at Grayson, then practically mimicked what she did with the knife scourgifying and the knotgrass slicing. Not that he didnt know what to do, but if a 'Claw does it, it kinda adds extra validity that you're doing the right thing. At least thats how this Slytherin saw it. His eyes flicked at his Head of House and his Prefect. The discussion got real intense to the point that he could barely hear them, but if Salander knew anything about face and body language, this wasnt a happy-pappy discussion. He turned his head slightly when Fletcher started snickering to himself. Now what would get his buddy to find anything amusing about that Slytherin tension-- other than of the fact that Lafay and tension goes like coffee and cream? He took one of the spare shrivelfigs and tossed it at the GlitterPuff, mouthing out What're you laughing at? |
SPOILER!!: fishy fishy... Kurumi gulped as she proceeding with the next part of the instructions of trying to cut the knotgrass. The process was so complicated and Kurumi had a hard time seeing how the professor was doing it exactly from her seat. She dare not ask for the professor to do it again as her face was becoming more dragon like by the minute. Kurumi picked up her knife and watched Professor Lafay's movements as she cut the knotgrass when OUCH! she managed to cut herself with her blade. At least she had finished cutting the grass before doing so? She stuck her finger in her mouth and adjusted her notes. SPOILER!!: Kurumi's parchment With her notes fixed. Kurumi looked up at the professor and, in a meek voice asked, "Do you happen to have a band-aid, Professor?" |

Sidney looks down at her potion. It appears to be okay. She could ask Professor Lafay if her potion is okay. I can also ask Professor Tate and Headmaster Zitnik to dance with me at the Christmas Ball, but I don't think that's going to happen. Nothing's happened, so the potion is probably fine. I'm just making a mountain out of a mole hill. Cut up your knotgrass and chill out. Sidney finds her knotgrass. She checks her notes. According to them, I have to cut it with my silver knife. First I place the knotgrass on my cutting board tip side to my left. Sidney looks the knotgrass over and places the point side to her left. I need to run the knife through it from top to bottom not re-cutting it. Sounds easy enough. She holds the tip of the knotgrass down with her left hand. Sidney decides to start at that point hoping not to cut her hand. She places the tip of her knife as close to the tip as she dare and starts cutting lengthwise down the knotgrass. Sidney sighs with relief when it's cut. |
This was quite a complicated potion in Serena's mind. She really needed to get a clear head. She let out a long breath and continued on from where she left off. Serena now had her mortar and pestle sitting in front of her. With a quick "Scourgify!" it was nice and clean and ready for use. She picked a piece of Yellow Moonstone and crushed it into a fine powder using her mortar and pestle. Serena added the powdered moonstone to the goat's milk whilst stirring. It was now time to add the two lacewing flies. They were blue in shade and quite pretty in a way the witch thought. After the flies were put into the potion she stirred twice clockwise and five times counter clockwise. Serena nervously grabbed her silver knife (she hated using sharp objects) and carefully cut the Knotgrass according to the Professor's instructions. She awaited the next lot of instructions. SPOILER!!: Serena Morgan's Parchment |
Catching up. :) SPOILER!!: Potion's Class Cass listened to what Professor Lafay had to say, it was a good thing she had already prepared her ingredients before hand. So she took her already crushed moonstone and sprinkled it over her potion as she stirred it. Then she took her lacewing flies and added them to the potion before she stirred it clockwise twice and counter clockwise five times. Then she took her knotgrass and slid it from top to bottom, being extra careful not to slice at the same spot, then she added it to her potion as well. SPOILER!!: Cass' Parchment |
Catching Up :D SPOILER!!: step 3 Freya took her ingredients and put it on her work desk. She took out her mortar and pestle, cleaned them with Scourgify before using it. After she sure that her mortar and pestle were clean enough, she began grinding the yellow moonstone until she got 1 tea spoon of yellow grinding yellow moonstone. She sprinkle the yellow moonstone powder in the cauldron while she stirred it. SPOILER!!: step 4 Flies??The have to put them on to the potion..Ewwwwwww..Gross..!!!Freya gulped when she grabbed two lacewing flies. She added them to her potion. She stirred the potion twice clockwise and five times counter clockwise. SPOILER!!: step 5 Freya grabbed the knotgrass and layed it tip side to her left on a wooden board. She took out her silver knife and run it throught the knotgrass. She slowly cutting the knotgrass and made sure she didn't re-cutting the same spot. After finishing cutting the knotgrass, she wrote a few notes to her parchment. SPOILER!!: Freya's Parchment |
The students seemed even more distracted. Their potions would suffer. She took a breath to try to be less irritated, summoned the shrivelfigs and said. "Lay the knotgrass to the side, so the juices from the cutting come to the surface. We aren't adding them yet. The next ingredient. Shrivelfigs are messy, so dawn your gloves," she said putting her gloves on. "Squish them in your hands and try and get as much into the cauldron and off your gloves as you can." She said as she demonstrated. "After you are done with the figs, take the knotgrass and run it gently over your gloves. This will, one, help get the excess fig off and two, coat the knotgrass so it won't wilt too quickly in the potion." She then took off her gloves and cleaned them. |

Taking ahold of said items, the Gryffindor squished them over the cauldron as instructed, doing his best to get as much juice and pulp into the potion. Once done, Simon moved onto the next step, retrieving the knotgrass from the cutting board, rubbing it over his gloved hands. |
SPOILER!!: Renesmee's notes It seemed like all the other students were in ther own world but Nessa was not messing up her potion for anything. She took in every word that the professor said and followed ever instruction. Cutting the Knotgrass and laying it to the side so that teh juices could come to the surface. Grabing her gloves "scourgify, all clean" she said taking the shrivelfigs and crushing them making sure as to get most into the cauldron as she could and then rubbing the knotgrass over her gloves as instructed. Taking off her gloves "scourgify" gloves clean. |
Lila put the knotgrass aside and put on her gloves. She began squishing the shrivelfigs over her cauldron. Next she picked up the knotgrass and gently ran it over her gloves. Then she added the knotgrass to the cauldron. |
SPOILER!!: Fee's parchment Fee did as she was told and waited for the next introductions. She kinda liked potions even though she was still afraid of the professor. |

Alice picked up the knotgrass and set it to the side and away from the possible spray of juice that could come from this next step. Alice took the shrivelfigs, which felt quite unpleasant in her gloved hands, and began squeezing all the juice she could muster into the potion. Once she was sure that she had enough, picked up the knotgrass and ran it throughly through her gloved hands, until all the excess juice was of them, and then continued to hold them. She wasn't supposed to add them yet, was she? |
Well knotgrass. Picking up some of that grass thing Josh examined it carefully. But he knew he could not add it into his potion or, truth be told, to his milk since he had not add anything in the brass cauldron to call it a potion yet. And he had no idea what he should do next since, for some unknown reason, he missed what everyone was doing in this class. Apparently he was too busy with finding a way to make Lafay drink the potion yet what was Lafay going to drink if he prepared no potion? Pffft. Quote:

Amy put aside the knotgrass and pulled on her gloves she then started squishing the shrivelfigs over the cauldron, then she picked up the knotgrass and ran it over her gloves as instructed. then pulled her gloves off "Scourgify!" then she scribbled more notes in her journal SPOILER!!: Amy's notes |

SPOILER!!: Freya's Parchment |
There was something about putting on gloves that Patroclus really liked. It may have been the feeling, or the idea that something intelligent was going to happen, either way he just loved gloves. Moving his knotgrass and knife to the side, Patroclus took up his shrivelfig and began to squeeze the juice. His culinary skills came in handy, as the boy had always been taught that to get the most juice possible, it was best to maasge the fruit first, before squeezing it! Rolling it in his hand, Patroclus felt the fig swell with juice and was pleased to see it all spill into the cauldron once he crushed it. Next he took up the sliced knotgrass and began rubbing it over his gloves, the same way Lafay had done so, then he placed them back down on the table top, Lafay had not added them yet, and niether would he. SPOILER!!: Patroclus’ Parchment |
Oh! It was a great that he didn't add the knotgrass just yet. Awesome! Gloves! Yeah! He cleaned those too, you know. Treyen didn't mind how messy it could get, everything will be cleaned after he was done with the shrivelfigs. Squish, squish, squish...into the cauldron it went. He, then, proceeded to watch was the Professor was doing with the knotgrass and the poor gloves. Yes, he could see what she'd meant with messy, and after he was done he'll write that down with his notes. Taking the knotgrass in his gloves-covered hands, Treyen did as told, and then added the mixture of knotgrass and whatever was left of the shrivelfigs into the mix in the cauldron. His gloves were no longer in his hands, and were being cleaned as he waited for further instructions. |
Oh dear major catch up Having arranged all her ingredients on her tray and carried them back to their workstation, Ivory made sure to start the entire process of documenting her progress in her journal as she began the first step. Slowly pouring the gallon of goat's milk into the recesses of her cauldron, she waited patiently for the next instructions. Well waiting patiently and tilting her head this was and that as if she was a spectator in a muggle tennis game. Back and forth, back and forth her gaze traveled between the Professor and Raiden. She most certainly saw his point, couldn't help nodding along in agreement even as she wrote down the next step. Quote:
Biting her lip as it seemed Professor's good mood would not be lasting too much longer, she balanced the mortar in left hands and gently swayed it over her cauldron watching as the contents were sprinkled evenly into the goat's milk as she stirred with her right. Thank goodness for multitasking and that she wasn't one of those girls who couldn't even walk and chew gum at the same time. Quote:
Journal aside while she handled the flies, she palmed the two small lacewings and carefully dropped simultaneously into her brewing potion. Time to do what she did best. Stir. Once...then twice clockwise and then count 'em one, two, three, four, five stirs counter clockwise. Quote:
Shaking her head almost to herself, she laid the grass down laterally on her board. Arranging it so the tip side was on her left as instructed. Palming her knife and holding it steady over the knotgrass she mimicked the Professor's cuts. Sliding her blade from top to bottom, and never in the same place Luckily, she it was right at that moment that she paused for a second to update her journal and was therefore able to catch the next step that required the grass to be set aside. Thank Merlin, she hadn't added the grass to her cauldron just yet though heavens knew she'd been just about to do that. Quote:
For a brief moment she racked her memory of Potion making ground rules but for the life of her she couldn't remember exactly how true this was...maybe it was only when it applied to messy ingredients. Nevertheless, she gave them a tug as if she needed to confirm to herself and anyone watching that she had them on. Wrinkling her nose in preparation, she brought the container where she'd counted out ten shivelfigs directly in front of her and began the time consuming task of squeezing them for all they were worth. Oh gosh. It was like squishing eyeballs...well if she'd ever squeezed eyeballs which she hadn't. But she imagined it wouldn't be much different. Agh...it was everywhere...even between her gloved fingers. Wiggling them over her cauldron and she went as far as giving them a little forceful shake. Hopefully no fig "droppings" ended up on any of her partners. Finally ten "officially-shriveled-of-their-innards-figs" later, she was more than happy to run the cleansing knotgrass through her hands. The better to rid herself of more cleaning work. Coating the knotgrass as best as she could with the fig juice on her gloves, she strained her ears carefully for the next step seeing as it seemed they weren't adding the knotgrass to their cauldrons yet. So far so good. |

SPOILER!!: Amy's notebook |
Quote:
"Because you can't get 'em unless you have a phoenix or like, you get them on the black market or something, and even then probably you can't get them unless you're a --" DARK WITCH? Ohhhh! A teacher like LaFlame probably did deal in black market junk. She was probably a dark witch like from when Voldemort's days, she was probably even old enough that she was one of Voldy's moldy oldies, and just kept herself young with this. very. potion! Probably she even had a phoenix she tortured on the side for its tears! Maybe she sold them and that was why they were so easy for her to get, and why she was being so weird and cagey and scary about them and her story didn't really make any much sense! She was probably going to kill the poor Slytherin Prefect after class for asking about her source, exposing dark dealings and getting their suspicion up. The Notorious DeathEater LaFlame should be in Azkaban for sure! The purple haired kid gulped, realizing that he had stopped mid-sentence all awkward-like. "Anyway-- my tutor? this summer? says that sometimes if you can't get one thing, sometimes another will do. Like we made a boil-cure potion and we had no nettles, but my tutor let me use bog-burrs and that worked just almost as good. Not all the way, but close." He shrugged. "If we didn't have access to--" your evil dark witch potions cupboard full of evil witchery he thought-- "to phoenix tears, like you do, is there anything we could substitute or will it blow up in our faces or make us grow an extra arm or something?" An extra arm would be useful, now that he thought about it. especially when carrying all your stupid supplies to the she-snakes' desks. |

"It's Professor." She hissed. Quote:
Now she addressed the WHOLE CLASS "Here's the deal. You can either concentrate on the lesson I am teaching, or the class can end without you having learned anything but the correct way of chopping knotgrass. No homework and without points for participation given. Well then? Shall I continue?" |
