After quickly writing down the Quintapeds' location and rating, Vashti pulled out her textbook and flipped to the correct page. She nearly squealed in surprise when she saw the picture of a Quintaped. Thankfully, she stopped herself before any loud noise escaped her mouth, but she still stared at the picture with wide eyes. Sweet MERLIN, those things were CREEPY. She wondered if that would count as a characteristic and figured she'd give it a shot.

"They're kinda...creepy-looking," she said after raising her hand.

Cela studied the picture and then put her hand up. "Their joints must be flexible and bend more than one way so they can actually lift their food, their prey, people included, to their mouths. If not they wouldn't have a XXXXX rating because they wouldn't actually be able to eat you unless you got right on top of one. So I'm guessing that the socket... I guess they're hip sockets? allows their limbs to rotate in multiple directions? Maybe the joint socket too."

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooh, QUINTAPED! WHAT IS THAT???????

Quintaped, quintaped, quintaped...
Miranda nodded, grabbed her book and started to flip the pages in a very quick fashion.

Aaackkkk! A QUINTAPED!
It looked creepy and hairy. "M'am." Miranda raised her both hands, one still holding the book. She was holding her book in the air. Heh. "They look like upside-down spiders!" Eeeeeeeeeeeek! "Like, as if their legs have been bent backwards." Oh! "IT looks like it bent its back and is walking all wonky!"

DID THAT MAKE ANY SENSE AT ALLLL?!

Frowning, since she knew what a Quintaped already looked like, Evelyn reluctantly opened her book to the right page and stared down at the picture in slight horror and disgust. Everyone's answers flew in one ear, and right out the other, as the seconds ticked by. "It looks like a spider...." she said, her voice a little more higher then normal. Hmm? Looking around, trying to figure out who said the same thing, the Slytherin looked back down at the picture before closing the book slightly so she didn't have to stare at it.

Creepy things. One of the creatures in the world that she did NOT like. And not because it was dangerous or anything... "And probably moves like one too."

This was not a creature! This was a monster, man!

Whatever ate people was not cool. Except, well, do dragons eat people? If so, then they are an exception.

Mmmm, Treyen raised his hand, "They ought to be fast, right?" he said, because otherwise one could run away from it. Unless this thing apparated itself.

Alex rose her hand after eyeing the picture, "They look like hairy meatballs only with a face and legs." She told the Professor laughing in her head. She had to admit it did to, look like a furry meatball.

Carter raised his hand. "Their face is on top." he said. Not that you could really call that a face.

"They have five limbs like a starfish" replied Willow after raising her hand.

Sophia turned to the page instructed. When she looks at the beast, she felt uhmmm. weird. It didn't look harmful. But maybe she was being deceived. "It looks like it has thick hairs covering its legs"

Herminny quickly turned ti the page specified and raised her hand and answered, "The quintaped is auburn colored".

OH.MY.STARS. The picture that each student was looking at was creepy and icky. She raised her hand then... "It looks as though they have razor sharp teeth." Shivers. Not many things scared Fia but this one was a prime example of what she didn't like. It was hairy, probably hard to see those ickle teeth before they chomped a hand and...yeah. She had to stop thinking. She looked up at Professor Lawson waiting to hear what more of the students saw.

"Right you are," she said, glancing towards Torin, Jake and Willow. "One of the most notable features. Good job."
"Yes, they are hairy. Right again."
"Oh Vashti, I agree." Certainly Iliana wasn't one to shy away from a scary looking creatures but if there was an exception to the rule... "You couldn't pay me a million galleons to walk up and pet a quintaped," she said with a shudder.
"Very well thought out, Celandine. Wonderful answer."
Iliana gave a small chuckle. The fact that she could laugh was indication enough that it was only a picture they were looking at and not the real thing. "They do," she nodded. Upside down spiders indeed."
"If you read the description, it says, "It has five legs, each ending in a clubfoot," she read from the textbook. "I wonder if that slows them down? Makes you wonder, doesn't it" she said, looking between Evelyn and Treyen.
Hearing Alex's answer, Iliana laughed right out loud. "I LIKE that description," she said, giving the girl a wink.
"Right, Carter," she said, shuddering again.

"Now there is a legend that surrounds the creation of the quintaped. Can anyone tell me what that legend is? In your own words please," she added as an afterthought.

Alexandrie grinned after the Professor laughed at her answer, she did think it was funny after all. She didn't know the answer to what legend it was so she picked up her quill once the Professor told them after everyone answered she would take notes on it.

Ellie thought back to this. She'd hear of a legend... Something about a duel.. But only as if it were a tale... Such as The Fountain of Fair Fortune or something...

"There were two wizards, and their families, living on the Isle of Drear.." she began slowly.. "Can't remember their names.. But they had a duel resulting in one killing the other. So the family of the deceased one, cursed the other and his family to become giant five legged monsters... quintapeds..." She didn't like that story.

Mina quickly raised her hand. SHe kind of remembered hearing some thing about this. "There was a duel between two wizard families on the Isle of Drear. In realiation, one of the families, the McCliverts, turned the other, the MacBoons, into huge five-legged beasts. The McCliverts then realized that they made the MacBoons more deadly and tried to untransfigure them all, but all the McCliverts were killed by the beasts before they could untransfigure them back. Leaving all the MacBoons still huge beasts."

Diggy raised his hand. his dad used to tell them that story as part of the bedtime reading ritual. his mother hated that they were hearing stuff like that before bed but Diggy loved it. "Ok the place where the quintaped live used to have people on it. Two families. The MacBoons and the McCliverts. They never got along with each other. One day two of them got into a huge fight. So anyways one of the McClivert guy dies and so the McCliverts attack the MacBoons. But the silly goosed they are their little plan doesn't go right and they turn the Macboons into these five legged creatures. So the MacBoon creatures kill all the McClivert and the Ministry has been trying to untransfigure them since." he actually loved that story.

"Legend says at one time two families, the McCliverts and the MaBoons, lived on the Isle of Drear. The head of the McCliverts, Dugald, got drunk one night and callenged the head of the MaBoons Clan to a duel. Dugald McClivet was killed. The McClivert Clan then turned all of the MaBoons Clan members into Quintaped. The transfigured MaBoons killed all of the McCliverts Clan members. The MaBoons realized too late that they had killed the only wizards who could transfigure them back into human beings. As a result of this stupid mistake, the MaBoon Clan was cursed to live out the remainder of their lives as Quintapeds. To this day no MaBoons or McCliverts descendant have inhabited the Isle of Drear only Quintapeds."

Arya already had her book out and was looking at the haory creature with wonder. Not because she thought it was beautiful or anything, she found them rather creepy looking, but because she had studied them before class and found their story fascinating. When the professor asked for the legend behind the creature, she didn't hesitate to raise her hand. "They say that really long ago, two wizarding families used to live on the island," She paused to look up from her book and at Lady Lawson. "The MacBoon and the McClivert families hated each other and one day two of the family members got into a duel, killing one of the McCliverts. Well his family was soooo enraged, that they turned the members of the other family into these creepy, hairy five-legged BEASTS." She gave the professor one of those shocked 'can you believe it!?' looks. It was like a muggle horror movie come to life, truely scary. "But the McCliverts made a mistake, cause then the MacBoon family was bigger and more powerful than them. So in retaliation the MacBoon now beasts family KILLED the other family. All of them." She shuddered slightly at the thought. Though a small part of her was so captivated with the legend, true or not, and it showed in her eyes.

Oh, he didn't want to think about the legs of this particular creature. But since he was not in the Isle of Drear, then he could at least talk about them.

Mmmhmm. The story. So, two families were always fighting, one day two of them duel, one turns out dead, there's vengeance on behalf of his family, transfiguration occurs, everyone dies. Simple enough. But everyone had already spoke, "Whether the legend is true or not, I believe it to be the story of the great consequences of killing someone in a duel...and of using Transfiguration very lightly" and of not getting along, Treyen said, after raising his hand.

Gold raised a hand. "The legend is that life on the Isle of Drear sprung from two families, professor. The MacBoon family, and the McClivert family. Both rivals." She paused. "The family heads had a duel, and the McClivert head died. This led the McClivert clan to attack their rivals, and turn them into five-legged beasts. They didn't mean for those beasts to be a danger to their own clan, but that's how things turned out, since the creatures they "created" turned out to be too monstrous. The Quintapeds wiped out the McClivert clan, before the latter could unstransfigure them. I think that's why a Quintaped is also known as a Hairy MacBoon."

She lowered her hand, and then raised it again, "I don't think the story can be true though, professor. Professor Kingsley told us that transfiguration, even a very powerful bit of it, only lasts for a certain period of time; but the Quintapeds are still there. If it were magic, the spell would have worn off, wouldn't it?" Not to mention, turning a clan of humans into five-legged beasts, all the same, was an amazingly powerful bit of human transfiguration; and the legend ran that the McClivert clan was known to be inept, at magic. Could hatred cause such power, in magic?

Too many kinks in that story!

Ellie heard another girl's answer that got her attention. She decided to offer up her own opinion, even if it ended up biting her in the butt later.

"I think it's a myth, too. That happened a real, long time ago. All the original members would be dead by now. And they wouldn't be able to reproduce in quintaped form, would they? Or even so, their children wouldn't be quintapeds, would they? And the spell would have to wear off eventually, right? It doesn't make sense." None at all. And good thing too. Cuz she didn't like that story. Not one bit. Nope.

Listening to all the answers about, well whatever they were talking about, Evelyn had no clue since she was watching a leaf being blown by the wind slowly on the ground...one answer did catch her attention.

Looking over to that Hufflepuff girl, Sarah...Sandy...someone... Evelyn pondered over what she said about only Quintapeds have inhabited the island. "So like, if you you're turned into an animal, or in this case...a creepy little creature... and you have, kids... they would turn out like the animal that you were turned into?" Could people even have kids when they were transfigured into an animal!? "But, the Quintapeds were still the MacBoom family right? Inside themselves or...something..." Whatever they had discusses in Transfiguration class, was now gone from her mind. ugh. "Would the others be like, people deep down inside too? Or, ugh. I can't explain it..."

Why was transfiguration stuff so difficult?! Pssssh!

Dianna's head was looking to all the things she read about Quintapeds.
"Let's see.. This happened in the Isle of Drear which was inhabited with two wizard families who were rivals. The head of the two families got drunk and engaged in a duel.. One of them died.. and the death triggered the family of the deceased to attack the other family turning them all into monstrous five-legged beasts.. But then they realized that they just made them more deadly than ever and so tried to untransfigure them.. But failed and the beasts killed them all.."
That was the best she could recall as she placed down her hand.

Un plottable!!! That was it.

Mentally giving herself a pat on the head for remembering the word…even if it had been because someone else had said, Ivory zoned back into the lecture.

Oh oh oh. She knew this, she really did.

Smiling, Ivory raised her hand a little more confidently this time. This story was one that she actually found interesting. Although the names were a little hard on coming.
”Supposedly a clan feud of sorts resulted in one clan transfiguring the other into these hairy carnivorous 5-legged beasts,” she answered excitedly.”Who then in revenge killed all of the first clan and left themselves without a means to transfigure back…but its was just a legend…” Right?

Even as she said it, she realized that the joint class was in fact with transfiguration. Did that mean the legend was real??? Just at the thought of it, Ivory’s eyes became large and wide as she craned her neck to see their surroundings better.

Blake glanced from the doodles and silently listened to what the other students had to say about the Quintaped's history. "Whoa, that sounds like something my family would do." Yeeeeah but he wasn't supposed to say it. Scratching his head with the back of his quill, he made a face and opened the textbook as there was no point in answering because half of the class just did that.
