Hammer. That sounded evil. Okay, so maybe it WAS starting to get a little more interesting with the names and suc- OOOH! She knew this one! She'd seen and heard about it while...observing... the muggles.

"That's a stewdiner." Right? Or... "No, wait. Screwdiner...driver. It's used for putting screws into...things." she said after raising her hand, a little bummed out about the whole 'Only using the hammer to hit nails with' comment from the Professor. However, she was pleased with herself that she remembered at least one of the muggle things in the room.

Alex Rose her hand again slightly confused on this one, "It's a screwdiver..Screwdinner a screwdrive? Screwdriver.." Alex had difficulty pronoucing the word she saw in the book of muggle tools. She was never picking up that book again she swore to herself.

... Huh?

"Huh?"

With a curious look at Lawson, Jake blinked slightly. Say whuuuuut? "Awwww, I wwwanna sssmash stuff."

Looking up at the board, Jake threw his hand up again. "Rrred and bbblue."

True DAT.

Hmm. She eyed the picture for a minute before raising her hand. "That's a screwdriver, right? Like if you don't wanna use a hammer." Though she had no idea why someone wouldn't wanna usa a hammer, all the banging is awesome. So says Arya.

Simon put his hand up. "Professor those are what you call screwdrives." He smiled. "Muggles use these when they want to screw so screws into an object, say you were making something with a door in, you would screw the hindges into the place by using screws." Simon smiled at the Professor, he hoped she didn't mind him giving a bit more information.

Ivory had been busy looking through her book bag for the special carpentry gloves her father had sent. She wanted the palms of her hands to be protected after all.

But that didn't mean she wasn't listening, she was being a sponge at the moment. Letting the information sink in. Yup sink right in. That was a hammer and that was a screwdriver. Both were used for types of nails. Wait....screws were types of nails right?

Pondering that for a second, Ivory took the time to unfold her plans and sneak a few looks at them. Hopefully, they wouldn't be too difficult to make. Looking around excitedly, she waited for Sir Lawson to continue.

Like Lawson really had to tell the class that the walnut cracker would only be used for hitting nails. If he didn't want them to hit other things, he shouldn't have brought it up..cause now Destiny wanted to hit EVERYTHING with it. "Right!" she said giving a thumbs up, then looking towards Marie. Yes, please let her move away.

Looking back at the board when another picture was placed, she raised her hand, "You can roast marshmallows on them. Or poke people." she mad a little jabbing motion with her hand.

Poke, poke.

One Slytherins answer was truly comical and others I guess coming from wizarding families could not quite remember thename of the item right but gorwing up in the muggle world she certainly knew the name of that item and how to use she raised her and and said, "That item is a screw driver. It's used to screw in screws and take them out again.".

William put his hand up, "That's a screwdriver professor, they come in different...things, like flat head and squares. You use them to tighten or loosen screws...err short windy nail things." he replied, his face scrunching up in an awkward way as he tilted his head. He knew that much from his mother who had told him to hand over the flat head screwdriver enough times when he was a youngster.

Christopher was very much amused by the answers that were being given out. Leaned back in his stool, his long legs stretched out in front of him he had to admit he was enjoying himself.

Not only that but this class by all means was one that appealed to him as the guy he was. Sure he'd never really built anything but now was the time to change that.

Feeling the reassuring presence of the building plans he'd picked out, rolled like blueprints in his back pocket, CJ felt like they couldn't get started fast enough.

"I like the handle thing." Celandine ventured, hand up and clearly having no clue what they were, "Like, it looks comfortable to hold. I wonder if you could shove one of the handle bits on a wand? Oh and I see they have different ends? One's more jabby and one looks more like a chisel, like you could probably use it to prise things up." Or use the hammer thing with it and do some awesome sculptures!

Oh now Marie really wanted to move. She just knew that once Destiny got a screwydiver in her hands she was going to be poking her with it. And Merlin help the girl if she did because she would definatly pick up a screwydiver of her own and poke her back.

Raising her hand she said "Professor, I still want to move." You know, before someone gets hurt. Yeah, Marie wasn't all about answering questions right now she was more about getting away from her crazy friend.

Fallon smiled. She knew what everyone of these tools were. Her dad was a man that liked to work with his hands so he had trained her since she was a little kid. She had missed the question about hammers. But before she could worry, Lawson put another picture on the board. She raised her hand. "Professor, those are screwdrivers. They are used to put screws into a piece of wood or to take them out. It depends on what you are trying to do."

Nymphy raised his. Finally one he knew......"They are most certainly screwdrivers. They turn and push those weird nails into walls and such." he said, in a proud tone.

Miranda blinked, looking around the class- er, woodshop room thing.
She had like...dozed off for a moment there?

Allright, what were they doing? Ah, yes, those stick things...that you twisted to get a screw to fasten on something. Rightooo. Yeah, her dad had those...things. Yep.

Hmhmhmhm.

Brant Raised his hand. He has deffently seen his unlce use that one a couple of times, while fixing things around his house. [b]"Oh Professor, thats a screwdriver, its used to screw in nail types of things in to wood or metal. They would use a screwdriver instead of that mallod because instead of smashing the item in the selected area, they would screw it in. My uncle John said that it makes it stick in more. or in his words "More of a tight fit". he said with his fingers doing the quotations.

Nymphy saw Miranda startle and looked down. He had gotten the impression that she didn't like him or was mad at him casue he had denied him a place on the team even though he had an outstanding tryout. He had been wracking his brains to try to remember something he had done to offend her, but couldn't. Well, he was going to have to bring up converaton eventually, even if it was informing her that next year of his wish to tryout again.....

Patroclus raised his hand, and answered the question, "Sir that is a screwdriver, it .....driver screws into things...." he could see that answer but his mouth was not connecting with his brain. He shook his head and tried again, "It's a screwdrive, it use human effort to insert screws into other materials, it has a variety of heads, to match the corresponding screws."
He looked quizicaly down at his bench, his excitement was leaving him tonguetied, which we did'not enjoy.

Lawson had a little chuckle at some of the answers but was pleased that most of the students had got the answer right. "Very good. Yes these are what muggles call screwdrivers and they come in two different blade types. A flat head blade and a cross or phillips head blade." He picked up two different type of screws and held them up for the class to see. "This one is a Cross or Phillips Head Screw and this one is a Flat Slotted Head Screw. You can see they are both different and that's why there are different screwdrivers to fit them. Because nails have a straight flat body they are able to go through wood by being hit. But as you can see screws have a sort of ridging on the body which means they need to be wound into either wood, metal or plastic."

Lawson placed the screws back onto the table and then went back to the board again. "Now who can tell me what this TOOL is?"

Selena raised her hand. Out of the three shown so far, she knew the name of this one. "It's a saw, it can be used to cut through wood," she said. And it was used to cut down trees. Everyone should hug a tree. There weren't enough of them.

Alex rose her hand again, she hated herself for reading so many books. "It's what a muggle would call a saw, it's used for cutting down wood or shortening wood to pieces of the right size." Alex said thinking she got it right, this was actually the second easiest tool to remember from her books..at least she also knew it's uses.

Fallon listened as Lawson explained the two types of screwdrivers. Then he put another picture up on the board. Fallon raised her hand once again. "That would be a hand-saw. You use it to cut through wood, but it is rather slow compared to a lot of electric ones that are around." Her dad would never touch a hand saw unless he had to.

"That Sir is a handsaw, it is used to cut through small to medium piece of wood, once again using human effort, however it can come with two handles at each end, when need to cut down a tree, or one powered by electricity."
Patroclus was pleased with his answer, he had seen muggle use this tool before, whilst on location at a dig site.

Ellie raised her hand.

"Those are screwdrivers, Professor. The one that's flat, I think is called a flathead or something while the one that's a diamondish shape is called a phillips..." She was pretty sure. She thought she heard her Gramps talking about them like that.


"And that is a handsaw. Not to be confused with an electric saw or jigsaw or other saws..." There were quite a few saws out there.

Noir raised her hand "Umm That is a head saw, sir but some muggle called it panel saws..muggle used it to cut pieces of wood into different shapes" she said.."I'm glad I have a muggleborn uncle" she thought
