And then he waited.
Just as he'd expected, a thick grin mist began to emit from the object. "The Fourfoil responds to objects that have had magic cast upon them," he explaned through the green fog with a few blinks. With a wave of his wand, manakins appeared on the desks infront of all the students and Sage moved around the room to hand them all a few stalks of the herb. "Give it a go yourself. Furnuculus is actually a curse, and so the mist appears green. Hexes will emit a yellow mist, jinxes are red.. and charms will turn the mist blue."
Hmm. Maybe he hadn't thought this through. The classroom would be a rainbow fog. Oh! Her answer had definitely been one of the most correct ones. Surprise, surprise. Gold took a few, quick notes, before setting her notebook aside to listen to Professor Dodson. Good gosh, if what he was saying was right - which Gold had no doubt about - the greenhouse was going to be full of colourful fog, within another five minutes!
That would actually be quite pretty. Quote: Sage gave his beard a scratch. Histedius? "Histedius is used to cause discomfort for more ... malicious reasons," he said slowly, "therefore I'd class it more as a hex." But that was just him. "Give it a go and see what the Fourfoil classes it as." "Doesn't it depend upon one's intentions though, sir?" Gold asked, raising a hand. "One could use it as a jinx, or one could use it as a hex... and there are lots of other spells that can fall into more than one category, based on how one executes them, sir." Sooo, could the Fourfoil pick up what the caster's state of mind had been?
She paused for a moment, thinking of that, and then added rather thoughtfully, "Does the Fourfoil emit a specific type of mist if a spell doesn't fall into any of those categories, sir?" Professor Dodson hadn't mentioned transfigurational magic, so far. It wasn't charmwork.
It was like the Fluffletuff Bloom and half-truths and all that stuff, all over again. Only, this time time Gold had even more questions. She took a few more notes, before reaching out for mortar-and-pestle, and beginning to grind the Fourfoil. It didn't take too long, of course; and, the moment Gold was done, she set it aside, ready to cast on the mannequin in front of her. What to cast though, was the question.
Lots to consider! |

Nymphy was now over unfairly losing a point. He wanted to get back into the swing of things, and what better way to do so than with a curse!?!?!
"Locamotor Mortis!" he yelled, flicking his wand at the dummy. Instanly its legs sprang together as if glued. Nymphy then took a leaf and held it up to the dummy's legs.

Simon looked at the doll, he had no idea what spell to do first, saying that he didn't want to use a spell, even though it was just a doll you had no idea if it has any feeling. "Professor what spells can we use?" He had no idea what spell to do.

Alex sighed pulling out her wand and moving it as Professor Truebridge told them to, chanting, "Histedius." causing three green rings to appear and strike the manakin in front of her desk. Well Now..wait and see what color it turned into she decided putting her wand away.
Yes, this girls wandwork was slightly worrying. When Sage had been that age he had trouble with a simple levtitation spell. Then again, he'd always been more at home in the Greenhouses rather than Charms or Transfiguration.
He was curious as to what would happen, and blinked a little when the mist emitted. "Orange?" There was no mistaking it.. orange mist. "That's a mix of jinx and hex. Huh." He hadn't researched this herb fully, it seemed. Quote:

Getting some herb she sprinkled them on the hair-less doll, a green mist appeared.
"Blech, It's horrible!" she said as she waved the mist away from her. "It'll slowly clear," Sage assured Dianna, waving his hand in the green mist she'd created. "Good job though. I can tell you performed a curse." Quote:

Scoping up some of his grounded Fourfoil he sprinkled some of the flower on the Mannequin and marveled as blue mist emited from the flower and settled on the floor. "So cool!" "And you must've performed a Charm!" Sage grinned enthusiastically, peering through the flurry of blue fog. "Obviously there are spells that an Auror can which will tell them which spell has been ccaused on an object.. but one can sometimes find themselves without a wand. In which case, Fourfoil might just be the next best thing." Quote:

Lots to consider! "Most spells are split into certain categories even if it's questionable that it fits in said category," Sage tried to explain as best he could. Spell work wasn't his area, you know.. he just knew about the plants. "But as we just saw with Alex's attempts, the Fourfoil chose a fusion of both hex and jinx." And made some rather lovely orange coloured mist. "If a spell doesn't fit into a certain category, I believe it emits a black mist." Not as pretty as the others. Quote:

"You can use whichever spell you like, Simon," Sage smiled, "as long as it's legal of course. Maybe you'd like to go for a simple charm? Or a jinx? We've not had any red mist yet."

Selena looked at the mannequin. Hmm... Selena thought about all the spells she knew before casting one. "Flipendo," Selena said as she did the correct movement like it had said in the book she read and pointed her wand at the mannequin. As a result the mannequin was knocked back. The then performed another jinx. It was fun casting spells on this... though she wished it could fight back. Selena performed the correct movement for the jelly legs jinx. Oooh... wobbly. Then there was red smog all around her. ewh. It was red. She quickly tried waving it away from her. Red bad.

Had she not been listening? GASP. "Well, we're looking at the effects of Fourfoil, a herb that can tell if a spell has been used on an object," Sage said kindly and patiently, "so all you've got to do, is cast a spell on that doll, grind up some Fourfoil and sprinkle it over the doll.. and you'll see Fourfoil doing it's thing!" I'm not so great with a wand myself," he admitted truthfully in the hoped od cheering Simon up a little. He seemed like a nice kid. Was this VERY colorful fog healthy to breathe in?
Coughing a little, since it was fog and Destiny was always one for dramatics, she looked at the little dummy guy in front of her. Well, he was kinda cute..his arms moved and his legs. He was like a BABY without the diaper and the annoying crying. "Professor!" she called out with her hand raised, "Would the fourfoil work if I did something like this?"
She balled her other hand into a fist and punched the baby mannequin in the face.

"You have to grind the Fourfoil up," Sage explained, pointing to the mortar and pestles, "grind it as much as you can until it's very fine.. and THEN you sprinkle it onto object you cast the spell on!" Easy peasy. Quote:

Sage jumped, a little taken aback. Okay, he was VERY taken aback.
A SCARY Slytherin had full on SUCKER PUNCHED her doll and he just stared, wide eyed and confused. That was.... that was just scary. But he musn't show that fear.. he was sure she could smell it anyway.
"Erm.. no. I'm afraid.. it only detects spells." Shudder.

She balled her other hand into a fist and punched the baby mannequin in the face. Looking at the doll thing in front of her, Evelyn raised a brow and poked it. Meh. They had to jinx or hex it? It would be more fun if the thing was moving. Although, she didn't know how to do that. Wait, no, there WAS that one Transfiguration spell they learned...first year? And, did it work on all inanimate objects? Ugh, she forgot.
However, she jumped slightly when someone punched their doll dummy thing right next to her. Eesh! Seeing that it was only Destiny though, Evelyn chuckled under her breath once she saw the Professor's expression. BAHAHAHA!
Standing up, she took out her wand and tried to think of the best spell to use. It was too bad that incendio would be a bad choice. But, eh. Sighing, she sat back down, staring at the dummy thing on the table in front of her. Not being able to think of a really good one for the thing, Evelyn lazily flicked her wand to the side and down as she usually did for her own spell she made up and watched the dummy suddenly have Slytherin green and silver stripes covering it.
Good enough. Now to grind the Fourfoil...again. She was curious to know what the spell would be considered as. A charm? Or...something different. It didn't just change the color of something after all...

Alex grinned waving away the smoke, ha she knew it! Alex said firmly noticing the ..Girl had just punched her manakin..the Professor was..clearly terrified of Slytherins for some reason. Was it because all Slytherins were good at magic..and punching..Alex thought eyeing the poor poor manakin. She did agree with Zane's question what would it do if Transfiguration was used on it? She was so writting it down right below where she wrote down that Histedius was offically a mixture of a Hex and a Jinx yup orange mist. This class was interesting.

Except Professor Cripse. She had hugged him twice, because he was awesome. She wasn't going to forget him. Ever.
She petted her mannequin, now that she had a few spells, on her mind. "Hey, Logan," she said, gently. "I hope you don't mind me trying out the Fourfoil, on you. I promise I'll be quick." With a swoop of her wand, Gold had executed a cheerful Tergeo, following it up with a quick Jelly-Legs Jinx and a swift Furnunculus Curse. Then, lowering her wand, she cheerfully brought the ground Fourfoil near the mannequin.
Now to see how the Fourfoil would react to this.
Because experimentation is good.

Well, sometimes. |

"There is another plant that can identify whether or not an object has been Transfigured," Sage informed the Slytherin who had asked a good question, "a similiar process is performed but it is able to produce a shadow of what the object was before it was transfigured. Very handy, it is." And almost impossible to find, which was why they sadly couldn't try it out. Quote:

Now emit the smooooke! This Slytherin was scarier than Eveyln, and that was saying something. Evelyn gave him the heebie-jeebies but THIS one? Terrifying. Nodding at her work, he quickly hurried on through the blue smoke that was hovering around. Quote:

"You're a natural." Quote:

Patroclus picked a comical looking Auror running into a destroyed crime scene, and pulling out a mortar and pestle and grinding it up, whilst the villain escaped in a tradition mine style. Another good question!
"Once ground up, Fourfoil can last a good long while actually," Sage said, "so it's not neccessary to carry around the herb and have to grind it up all the time." That would be annoying, wouldn't it? Quote:

Because experimentation is good.
....
Well, sometimes. Gold had NAMED her dummy? Odd.
Anyone who apparently liked high heels as much as she did was odd though. Would he get fired for thinking the students were odd..? EEK. Apparently she was also one for experimentation, and Sage watched as she cast a trio of spells. A charm, followed by a jinx and lastly a curse.
Straight away, the mist started to rise. A poof of green. It rose and swirled before joining the rest of the fog in the room. It was starting to get hard to see in here..
"As you can see, the Fourfoil is only able to identify the LAST spell that's been cast on an object.. nice try on confusing it though, Gold." She'd probably been hoping something more exciting would happen.
"OKAY." Sage called through the fogginess, "if you haven't already tried the Fourfoil, you've got five more minutes." And then he needed to open the greenhouse doors.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Zane Reagan Hayes Third Year | "Professor, what WOULD happen if you casted an Unforgiveable? I mean, I know one could figure out if someone had used a Unforgiveable on another person, but inthe spirit of the lesson, would it still cause green smoke to appear?" he asked, raising his hand.

Alex glanced at Zane surprised by his question..but it was a good question, after all They're curses..but also dark arts..which would the dummy detect? She glanced at her own dummy lying on the ground..she felt sorry for it, Histedius was a spell she would not cast on her friends. Alex raised her own hand to agree him with him, "Yeah, I mean the Unforgivables are curses but also Dark Arts, would the plant be able to even detect it because of it's dark nature?" Alex asked in wonder..she knew the Professor would flip out.

TYPICAL Slytherins.
The Slytherins... they were asking about Unforgivables and Sage's face paled a shade or two. No, that was sterotypical.. and mean. They seemed like nice kids. Just curious?
"The nature of the spell is too dark for the Fourfoil," Sage explained slowly, "the Fourfoil would simply disintergrate when coming into contact with the object."
