With a nod at Arya, Truebridge continued, "This spell is a temporary self armouring spell, one which conjures an invisible armour, which the easiest way to think of it is as invisible plate armour worn close to your skin. Truebridge drew his wand as he spoke.
"It is harder to cast it over your entire body and it is not entirely necessary to do so; I will be pleased if you each manage to protect one arm today. Before I go over the incantation and wand movement, does anyone have any questions about the spell or observations about how it might be useful?"
A self armoring spell? Able to block anything... well that was useful! "So it's like a few of the shield spells into one? The Impiriano and Protego ones i mean..." she said curiously, writing down what the shield spell was in her notebook before looking back up. Well, of course it was! Almost. If it was able to block spells and physical things, than it would be like a combination of the impiriano and protego spells right? Kinda like the Hestidius spell being a combination of a stinging hex and flipendo... "Are you able to cast it on other people?"
Alex nodded at the Professor's reply towards her five spells smiling. She loved a challenge after all. As the Professor explained the new spell she decided to write down what he was saying, after all who knew if it would come in handy, she decided as she wasn't sure what to say about it anyway.
The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas.
Things were going a bit to quickly for William's tastes, however he wasn't about to admit defeat just yet. Scribbling hurriedly in his notebook, flipping pages and taking a list from Cela with a friendly smile he looked them over blinking stupidly. He hadn't even heard of half of these spells, how was he to learn any of them? He could do maybe three of them if he was lucky, and William wasn't lucky at all. Well that's why he was here in the Duelling Club after all, to learn.
Sighing he looked the list over again and frowned, "Mimblewimble, Steleus, Finger Removing Jinx, Frigus and... Arania Exumai." he muttered, writing the list down in his notebook. He wasn't even sure what Steleus was, having never heard of it but hey it was a spell that sounded interesting to him at least. He'd have to see if those were good enough for him; he felt confident enough but that little nagging voice kept nagging at him.
Looking up as the professor continued, saying something about a new spell he perked up a bit, frowning deeply. An armor spell would be plenty useful in dueling he thought, his blue eyes sparkling just a little bit. Picking up his quill once more he began writing. Putting his hand up he asked, "Professor could you use this spell on different things other than yourself? Like you possessions or a building?" he tilted his head, a curious expression on his face.

Jacob looked over the list of spell. This was hard, there were so many to pick from. And he just couldn't decided, he wanted a challenge but too hard. Picking his five, Jacob wrote them down and waited for the professor to approve of his. He settled on spells that he had tried but never really mastered.
Jacob listened to the new spell the professor was talking about. It sounded interesting. Though the deffensive spells were starting slightly all sounding about the same. They all did pretty much the same thing, didn't they?

Grayson listened with interest as spells were discussed, momentarily forgetting that Professor Truebridge had asked them to pick up a list and pick out five spells they wanted to work on. But as the discussion shifted to learning a new protection spell, she blinked. Maybe she should get to that list thingy. heading to Celandine, she took a list with a smile and started looking it over as she continued listening to the explanation of the new spell. Hopefully she could multitask, and not get too distracted again.
Five spells I don't already know . . ., she thought. That crossed rictusempra out, since she'd already said it was one of her favorites. And aguamenti, and incendio. But she could come up with some.
And then back to the new spell, as she wondered what the professor would think of her list. She hadn't thought of anything regarding this armor spell thingy that others hadn't already asked, until . . . "Professor, if the spell is useful againt things cutting you and stuff, would that include if, say someone conjured birds and sent them after you with Oppugno?" She thought it might, but it was better to ask.

And, he needed to chose five spells from there. Hmmm. Interesting. There were plenty of those he didn't even know existed, sooooo...those were the ones left out of Treyen's own list.
And, with that written on his journal, the boy listened to what everyone (Professor included) was saying.
He eyed his last choice and raised his hand, "Would this spell protect us from certain creatures too, like snakes?" in case the opponent decided to cast a creature of the sorts.

Vashti had been looking over and looking over the long list of spells, finding it difficult to narrow the list down to just five to learn. She wanted to learn them all although she knew it wasn't possible to do all that in just one term. But still. And suddenly it seemed they were moving on to something else. Eep! She needed to pick now, so she wouldn't be behind and could focus on taking more notes.

Destiny had been lost in the list that was in her hand. Only able to pick five? But she wanted to learn them ALL! She would be the master of duelling spells!
But we all know that would never happen.
Hmm.. she looked over the list a few more times crossing off the ones she didn't want to know. Arania Exumai..never that. She like spiders far too much. As the spells on the list were slowly disappearing, she was left with only a few. Well, at least they were good spells. Or she thought so.
"Those of you who haven't yet chosen your five, you can think about it a bit of you like but your choices need to be approved. Meanwhile we're going to quickly cover a new spell, one that I'd like you to all work on in addition to what is on your list of five." A new spell!
Placing the list of spells in her bag, not realizing that it would just disappear later, she listened as he explained what the new spell was. Soo..they were going to be walking around with an invisible suit of armor on!?
Sweeeet!
Looking around the room, she listened to what everyone had said and asked. Her eyes may have stayed on Ayra a little longer than the rest, but what did the girl expect? That explosion was her own fault. "Would you be able to use the armor as a weapon of some sort? Like, if I hit someone with it on, would it hurt more?"
Not that she would punch someone during a duel or anything.
She eyed Ayra again.

Arya thought about what Truebridge said. Her fifth year was only three terms away, and if she worked hard (which she would), she would have it by then and maybe mastered before she graduated. It would be a ton of work for a spell she wouldn't be able to use for alteast three years, but she was always up for a challenge. "Could I switch it out for another spell," She mused. "but still work on Disillusionment in my free time?"
Arya curiously tilted her head to the side when he nodded at her, twirling her quill as she listened to him speak. A new self armouring spell, she sure could have used that last term. But he didn't know that did he? Hmm. Her eyes flickered over to Destiny as she raised her hand. "It would be useful if someone exploded an object that was near to you. But would it be able to protect us from any exploding objects or just certain types?"
"Yes most certainly." Truebridge answered and then listened to Arya's comments and question about the new spell. "Yes its quite useful against... well I suppose shrapnel. It depends on the strength of your magic, how weakened the protection is from other attacks and indeed on what made the exploding object explode and the effects the explosion has in general. If it simply blasts you backwards, then that won't be stopped, but if it sends little pieces of shrapnel at you, then those will not break your skin."

Kate raised her hand "Profesor, Can you fly with this "armour" on? I mean...with brooms..."
"Yes it really is that hard, particularly when your magic is still forming. You could possibly begin learning non verbals a little earlier than fifth and sixth year but likely your spells would not have developed effectively in the first place so you'd basically be messing everything up non-verbally." Which was the same as failure. Quiet failure was still failure.
"It wouldn't be easy. As I said it has a weighted down feel, it may make movement difficult" Truebridge answered after some consideration, "Besides which it is the type of spell which would be banned in Quidditch games, worth mentioning I think."

Hmmm.
"Professor, can I... I'd like to try Expulso, Bombarda, Everte Statum, Deprimo, and... Histedius. Non-verbally." That would be a lot of blowing things up and tossing people around, wouldn't it... But still. He'd managed to get his spell to bend around Lina, but it had been not easy, especially when compared to the way she'd done it, right after.
New spell? An armour one? This would have been useful before History Of Magic. And this sounded like it would've done wonders for both him and the professor last term. Better late than never. He half-flinched at Evelyn asking about Defodio, but didn't say a word. Just because that had been the spell to hit him... didn't mean it wasn't worth her learning, right?
"Yes, those are fine Raiden. I expect to see you do well with them." Truebridge answered.

"That is fine." Truebridge answered. "Yes in some ways, however situationally it isn't always the best spell to use. It doesn't necessarily stop pain and you might still end up with bruising if the attack is strong enough, but your skin will not break. And no, that is a downfall of the spell unfortunately. It is not one that can be easily cast on other people as it is hard to control precisely where it will cover another person. I suppose I could manage it on someone's arm, but there'd be no guarantee of how long it might last or how strong it would be."

"No it only works on people, and as I mentioned just now, its very difficult and very hard to control the degree of protection on anything other than yourself." Self-armouring charm and all.

Truebridge checked Destiny's list. "Good choices, a nice challenge for you."
He listened to her question.
"Yes because as I said, it is weighted. It may effect your speed a little to begin with however."
He looked around.
"Any more questions or observations feel free to keep them coming. It is important to analyse new spells and have an idea of how they may apply to different situations. The wand movement for this spell is fairly simple though it takes a bit of practice to get it right. You need to twist your wand in your fingertips like so," Truebridge demonstrated, rolling his wand noticeably in his fingertips, "And as you do that you flick your wrist." He demonstrated it again with the wrist flick.
"Try that now, and don't worry if you drop your wand, just keep practicing until it doesn't feel so new. When I first learned it I dropped my wand several times and when I didn't the grip on my wand after I'd completed the movement was shaky and awkward. It took practice to make it smooth and controlled."
ooc: Go ahead and RP the movement, you can RP your character dropping the wand, having trouble with recovering their grip on their wand after rolling it and flicking the wrist, whatever you like. You can still have your character make observations and ask questions too. We'll get to the incantation soon.
Alexa took a deep breath and entered the Duelling Club meeting with the hood of her sweater still pulled up... yeah she was a bit freaked about being around so many people. Finally taking down the hood she stood as close to the exit as possible and trembled...
Catching the last thing that Truebs said she shakily unholstered her wand as she watched the Porfessor demonstrate the wand movement. Wowza... that looked tricky.
Still out of sight of most people... she hoped... she attempted the twirly flicky thing he had just done... She nearly immediately dropped her wand and sent sparks toward the wall.
Scrambling to retrieve it she raised a shaky hand and asked, "Professor... what exactly is this spell? I apologize. I only just got here." Eghad... she hoped she didn't incur the wrath of Truebridge for that.
OOC: I have permission to be late... Alexa has only just returned after all.
Yes! It'd protect them from SNAKES! Would the spell also protect them from Slytherins?
Never mind. He had his FIVE chosen spells approved. And, ironically, he'd chosen one that made snakes appear out of thin air. Well, not out of thin air, but, yeah, that was the thought.
Mmmhmmm. No further questions at the moment. Treyen listened and watched as the Professor explained the movement.
Blink. Blink.
Blink. Blink. Blink. Blink.
What was the movement?! No wonder he'd dropped his wand several times! But, practice makes perfect. And Treyen certainly needed to practice. A LOT! Clearing his throat a bit, the little boy confronted his wand, and relaxed.
Okay. Twisting the wand in the fingertips. Er, that was going to be tough, but Treyen practiced that first. And...he was focusing rather hard, the movement was improving. Until...the flicking part! Twisting and flicking at the same time had a disastrous outcome, well, disastrous to Treyen, for the wand left his fingers in an upward motion almost touching the ceiling and hitting the boy in the head.
Yeah. Awesome. The Professor told them about losing grip of the wand, not about getting hit in the head by it.
The little Lockhart sighed, and took his wand from the floor. He'll try again. And again. And again.
Alex followed the Professor's wand motion with her own wand..and unsurprisingly her wand slipped out of her hand, she sighed picking it back up trying again, and again..again, and again each time the wand slipping out of her hand. Alex finally got to the flick ..which sent her wand flying..next to Selena..well at least she hadn't hit her friend with it. Alex quickly strolled to Selena's side and picked up her wand muttering, "Sorry Selena..over did the flick." before going back over to her spot and tried again..she repeated the motion again..dropping the wand by her feet again. She sighed and picked it up...This was challenging at least Alex thought.

Reason: Let's say her wand slipping out her wand sounded just werid.

Professor Truebridge showed absolutely no surprise at seeing Alexa, even though the last time he recalled seeing her was... before he'd been arrested. A while ago indeed.
"It is a self-armouring spell, and the reason we are learning the wand movement first is because it is one that takes a bit of practice to catch the knack of." He demonstrated the rolling and flicking movement again.
"I'm quite sure you can manage it, Alexa." He told the young Gryffindor quietly.

"Keep trying. Good work." And one benefit was that such things helped with the intent when the spell was eventually cast, too.

"Gently now." Truebridge encouraged, glancing around and spotting Alex making a credible attempt. He continued demonstrating.

Alexa smiled sadly at Professor Truebridge, remembering that one of the last things she recalled about the terrible incidents of last term was hearing Truebs help take down Grumps... He was indeed a hero and if anyone could help her get her nerve back... it would be him.
Watching him intently she nodded her head and bit her lower lip then attempted the eand movement again... and failed, again sending her wand flying from her hand and bouncing off of the wall.
Hearing his words of encouragment she mouthed the words Thank you, sir and went to retrieve her wand once more. She threw a quick glance around to see if her "brother" had made it yet... no sign of him. Time to concentrate... She would learn this, she would, she would.

Hearing his words of encouragment she mouthed the words Thank you, sir and went to retrieve her wand once more. She threw a quick glance around to see if her "brother" had made it yet... no sign of him. Time to concentrate... She would learn this, she would, she would.
"Think of it as if you are turning a key in a lock." Truebridge offered. "Once it reaches a certain point, you have to put more force into it, that part is the flick. Do it slowly until your fingers have the knack for it then speed it up and add the flick of your wrist." He spoke loud enough for all the students to hear of course, but it was in answer to Alexa and her obvious determination to getting it right that he spoke.

Mina watched closely before she looked down at her own wand. The movement looked a bit awkward to her and she had a feeling actually attempting it would be just as awkward.
Taking her wand, she tried to twist it just like she had seen it demonstrated. It sounded simple, but she could hardly get a few twists out before she lost her grip and the wand fell to the ground. If she was having issues with just the twisting, she was bound to have a harder time with the addition of the flick.
Picking up her wand, she attempted it again. This time, she slowed her actions and attempted to twist it slowly and then flick it. The wand shot up and over her head, landing behind her. She probably wasn't really ready to attempt a flick just yet, she reasoned. Picking up her wand again, she tried the twisting again and again.
She needed to get one part down before she could even think about trying the next part. One step at a time, she told herself.
Alex sighed trying again actually managing to get the flick without dropping it..now if only she could do that first try, She did it again..and dropped her wand..after the seventh time dropping her wand this time she got it again, the hard part was actually attempting this spell Alex realised looking around. She kept practicing this strange odd movement every sixth time she got it now. Hopefully she would be use to it soon enough.

Listening to Truebridge's further explanation, Alexa nodded her head and put on her game face. She kind of cleared her mind of everything else but the task in front of her and twisted her wand in her fingertips... This time she did it slowly and deliberately, concentrating on every movement. The twisting part was a success, at least at that speed.
Beaming at the Professor she tried it once more, this time speeding up a tad. Well... that worked out okay as well. She would practice the twist a bit more before trying to move onto the flick.
After listening to Gold, Truebridge spoke, "Keep in mind that this is for duelling purposes. Salvio Hexia and Cave Inimicum are warding spells, used to protect a stationary area and therefore not suitable for this task. However I'd happily help you work on these in my own time if you like. Meteolojinx Recanto is certainly fine if you can tell me how they might be useful in a duelling situation. The Conjunctivitus curse and Cistem Aperio are certainly approved."
"I'll work on them on my own, sir," Gold said, cheerfully. "Could you please tell me what to work on? I already know all the spells on Cela's list verbally. Not half of them non-verbally, though." She gave him a tiny smile. She didn't know what she wanted to practice, if not what she had picked. Scratching Salvio Hexia, Cave Inimicum and Meteolojinx Recanto off her list, Gold looked up expectantly at Professor Truebridge.

"Try that now, and don't worry if you drop your wand, just keep practicing until it doesn't feel so new. Oh. Gold had a bunch of ideas, about how she could creatively use this spell. Maybe she could find someone to discuss them with, later on. For now, though, she was going to practice the wand movement. She sat back, watching Professor Truebridge's demonstration, before trying out the wand-movement, herself.
She twisted her wand, right "in" her fingertips, and gave her wrist a swift flick. The tricky part, she found, was flicking the wrist, right as you rolled your wand into your fingertips. Because that meant one had two focus on two, separate actions at the same time. Two or three tries later, however, Gold had the hang of it. She hadn't managed to perfect it, but she knew she would. She had faith, in her own abilities.
Which was actually a very good thing, because not many other people had. Faith in her, that is.

Seriously? That was the wand movement? Either the professor was making it look like a cinch, or it really was as easy as it looked.
Taking out her wand, she quickly wrote down the wand movement in her notebook before looking at the wand for a moment as she usually did. Yup, polished and pretty as always. Now, to try this out!
It did not go unnoticed by her that people were struggling with the movement, so, best to just take it slowly right? Right! Holding the wand up, she tried the first step which was rolling the wand in her fingertips. Which, was definitely proving to already be awkward and difficult to do. Why did these spells need such complicated movements?! Why not just point the wand, and say the spell. Actually, that would have been a good question to ask the Professor if she had not already been absorbed in concentrating on doing the wand motion right.
Thinking that she almost got the hang of the first part, Evelyn decided to add the flick at the end the next time she tried it. So, rolling through the fingertips and flick!
Oops.
Scrambling for her wand that flew out of her hand, she caught it before it hit the ground, thank Merlin, and went to sit back down on the bench. Okay, so gripping it more would be a good idea.
"Professor, if you are talking about the players and if I´m not wrong, you can´t cast ANY spell during a quidditch game. It is allowed to bring your wand to the game but not to use it on or against any players, any player's broomstick, the referee, any of the four balls, or the spectators...But if you mean the spells casted by spectators, I don´t know which ones are banned, but I suppose you can´t cast something that would interfere with the Match" She said, thinking a bit about it. Then, she added "But my question was pointed at the case where you are duelling someone and somehow you have to fly with the casted armour on..."

Kate saw Professor Truebridge´s demostration carefully.
This is like playing with a stick, like muggle cheerleaders and soldiers haha Damn it! I´ve never managed to do it right... Damn wand movements!
She tried to do the movements but every time (like 5/6 times) she dropped the wand to the floor.
She picked up the wand for the 7th time from the floor and stood there, watching the others, learning, muttering something about talent and unfair...
Dylan skidded to a halt in the doorway of the meeting. He had no idea how much he had missed. Probably loads. He took a deep breath and attempted to integrate like he had been there all the time. He had his wand out and was nodding. "Yep. Yep. Totally." He had no idea what they were learning, but he would catch up soon.
"Keep trying. Good work." And one benefit was that such things helped with the intent when the spell was eventually cast, too.
Treyen nodded, he WAS going to keep trying, but he wasn't sure about the 'Good work' part. Did Professor Truebridge meant 'Good work' because his wand didn't hit him in the eye? Probably.
Now, let's keep it up.
The boy continued to twist, and then the flick...while the twisting part was getting better and didn't feel new to his fingers, the flicking part proved to be a nightmare, ironically.
But, he was getting better. Slowly, but improving. Grin.

A challenge? Crud. Destiny thought they would be the easiest ones to learn, but nooo. She must have picked the hardest spells!
No worries though, she was pretty sure she would manage them..even if it took her a while. Practice does make perfect! She nodded to Truebridge, glad that she didn't have to change her choices. It was hard enough picking those five and she didn't want to pick anymore.
Heehee. So..when she had this armor shield on, she would have like SUPER punches!? Perhaps she would just have to try it out..probably on Marie, since the girl was annoying. She made sure to write down the words Super Punches on her parchment before she shoved that in her bag as well.
After making sure Marie was a wake by giving the rope a little tug, she pulled out her wand to practice the new wand movement. Fairly simple? Was Truebridge crazy!? That looked like the hardest movement she ever seen! She was glad that the invisible rope was not around her wand hand, since it would surely mess her up..although, if it was on her wand hand, that could have been her excuse for FAILING at this.
Twist you wand in your fingertips and flick your wrist. Twist you wand in your fingertips and flick your wrist.
She stood from the bench so she had more room to practice, and to annoy the crap out of Marie, and first started practicing twisting the wand in her fingertips. Yeah, this was anything but simple and she hadn't even moved to the second part of the movement. If she couldn't do the twisting part, there was no way she could do the flicking. Defeated. Defeated by a wand movement.
It took her a few minutes to get the twirling to look even a tad bit normal. Now to flick the wrist.
She suddenly wondered if anyone had flicked their wrist so hard, that their hand fell off. Heh. A trip to the library was in order, she supposed.
Moving on to the next part, Destiny took a few deep breaths, mostly for dramatic effect. She gave the semi-normal looking twirl in her fingertips and then added the flick of the wrist. Well..that didn't work out so well. Picking up her dropped wand, she tried the movement again. Twirllllllll flick!
Yeah, perhaps she would do better sitting down.
