"Errm... okay.." That's weird. You would think that closer objects would be easier. Funny the way magic works.
'Contego. Contego.' she mouthed. Got it. And a zig zag? Ellie zig-zagged her wand upward. Okay.... Her eyes followed the ball.
Deep breath, "Contego!" she said. Her wand went all zig zaggy at the ball. And a little shield appeared on it. It's okay, ball. You're safe, now.
Aww. Such a cuute, mini-shield. Gold decided Ellie could get a lot better, at this shield. But this would do, for a start.
She gave the ball a little nudge with the tip of her shoe. It began to roll away, across the stage. Gold hoped it wouldn't fall off. Because she had just realized that could happen, if it went too far.
Hopefully, it wouldn't.
Go too far, that is.
Conjuring a few much smaller balls, she tossed them at it, one-by-one. One, two, three. Now to see how the shield was going to hold.
Should be fun.
OOC: Leaving whether the shield holds, or for how long, up to you, Niina. <3

Ellie watched as balls were thrown at her itty bitty shield on that BIG ball. And she winced everytime the shield was hit. It was like it was DYINGGG!!
She took advantage of the time in between the second and third ball to renew the shield. The old one disappeared. "Contego ball!" she said. And a bit of a bigger shield went up. Hehe. Her bally was protected from the third ball. Good.
The girl grinned at her self accomplishment. The ball will NOT die. Not under her watch!

"Smart decision," Gold smiled at Ellie. Renewing the shield when she could, that had been the right thing to do.
The ball - the big one - had stopped rolling, right by the edge of the stage. Gold summoned it, and dropped it near her feet. "Let's give this another try, before we wrap this up?" She suggested, summoning the three, smaller balls she had conjured earlier. "Here we go, then."
She nudged the big ball again, harder this time; and, as it rolled further and further away, threw the smaller balls at it.

One. Two. Three.
"Well, thank ya." Ellie said. "I figured it would be...er...safest for my ball buddy." Yup. Her ball buddy. Her new best friend. She smiled at a mental picture of a ball bumping along next to her wearing a wizard hat. Tehe.
Okay. Back into action. "Here we go." She watched as the ball went a-rollin again. "Contego ball!" BAM. Shield. This one was much stronger. Maybe her sudden higher spirits of her ball-friend image had had an effect.
And it had survived alllll three balls thrown at it. "Yay!" Ellie punched the air and gave a clap. Just one. Then held her hands together. She was pretty happy. She nevverrr acted this giddy... Weird. Ah, well.

Aww, Ellie looked so happy. "Job well done," Gold said, as all four balls zoomed smoothly back to her. She vanished the three, smallish ones, and held out the big ball.
"You can keep it," she said, with half a smile. "I don't know how long it will last, though. It will probably disappear, within twenty-four hours. But it's your Ball Buddy, so if you want it until then..." She trailed off, the half-smile still in place. Ball Buddy. What a funny term.
What else?
"Well, we're done," Gold beamed. "Contego was the last spell we covered, in the lesson you missed. Is there anything you would like to ask, or want me to go over again?"

Ellie took the ball with a bigggg smile. "Ball Buddy!" She thought about naming it... But Gold said that it would disappear. And, like a puppy you have to get rid of, you don't name things. You get attatched too much. And, unlike the puppy, she won't have a choice of keeping it or not. It'll just poof...
"Oh." Her face fell. Just a bit. "We're done?" She thought about what Gold asked, and dropped her ball. It rolled a little ways away when she did. As long as it didn't fall off, though, she was good. She had dropped the ball to count on her fingers. "So we learned 'revertoscutum'," one finger, "impiriano, and contego?" two and three fingers. "And histedius in class..." four. Then there was a looong pause. "Oh, and protego." Five. Five spells. All in one lesson. Wowwww.
She walked to her ball buddy to pick it up.

Whoa.
"Four spells," Gold laughed lightly. "Quite a lot for one day, aren't they?" Of course. "Keep practicing, and you'll see how much better you can get at them." With magic, there's always, always a room for improvement. Or so, at least, Gold firmly believed.
Because she had seen ample proof of that statement, over the years.
She focused her green gaze back on Ellie.
"Have a good day, then, sweetie," she said, as she picked up her bag. She felt like a duel, now. Maybe she ought to ask Xylon. She was well aware that he liked to duel, once in a while, too. Straightening up, Gold gave Ellie a friendly smile. "Take care, mmkay?"
She waved to Professor Truebridge on her way out of the Duelling Arena. She was going to come back, if she could get Xylon to agree to a duel. Or maybe someone else.

Ellie sighed and wingardium leviosa-ed the ball buddy. He floated beside her as she walked out the door. "Thanks, Professor Truebridge." she said. "Gold was great. I learned everything... Aaaand they all passed 'testing' charms... See you later." Yup. She'd done goooood. She skipped her way out with Ball Buddy.

Lexi hadn't even been aware that another professor had come into the room until she heard Nolan's voice. She watched Nymphy and Marie for a second or two longer then turned to face the Divination professor. Hmm. He needed to see her out in the corridor? For some reason, she couldn't help but think something ridiculous had happened, and she was about to get questioned. She tossed all those thoughts aside, though. She wasn't a student anymore. Of course she wouldn't get questioned of anything ridiculous happened.
Oh! What of something had happened at home? What if Ty or Allie...or even her mum or dad...were in trouble? With a slight look of fear on her face, Lexi just nodded a few times. "Oh, erm, sure. I'll be right on out," she said, her voice a little weak.
She turned back to Nymphy and Marie with an apologetic look. "I do apologize, but apparently I'm needed elsewhere. I'm not sure how severe the situation is, so I may or may not return. You two can keep practicing if you'd like, though," she said. "Practice makes perfect, so just keep it up...you're both doing great!" Worried about what sort of news Nolan had to tell her, Lexi wasted no time in turned and heading out the dueling arena.
Will do! he thought....sneaking around. When he was behind her, but not directly he got ready to attack. He knew that niether of them could see anything becasue of the immense fog. He thought very hard...."Stupefy!"
A jet a red light quickly shot out of the end of his wand and through the smoke. It was gone in a second and could not see if he had hit his target.....
Ayra already had her shield up as she watched Ivory get hit with her jinx and fall to the ground hard. This being the first time she used the spell in a duel, she was proud that all of her practicing had paid off and she hadn't missed her target. She was still trying to avoid the small hole on the plateform while keeping her focus on Ivory.
Blocking the first spell, she dropped her shield and took her stance aiming her wand for Ivory. She figured it best to send another spell at the girl while she was atempting to get to her feet. Opening her mouth to cast, she was caught off gaurd by the second spell. Arya teetered in her stance when the spell hit her feet, turning her shoes to stone.
She atempted to pull her legs together, but the stone proved to be to heavy for her. Instead she sent off a spell at Ivory while to girl gathered her footing. "Locomotor Mortis." Turning her attention back to her stone shoes, she ran through her short list of spells trying to find one to rid her of the stone shoes.
"Reducto" Her right stone shoe exploded when she aimed her wand at it and cast. Turning away from said foot, she used her arms to shield herself from the stone before turning her attention back to Ivory. Had to keep her distracted while she removed the shoes. "Locomotor Mortis" Once sending off the spell, she went back to ridding herself of the other stone shoe.
Ivory watched intently as the light from her spell hit Arya's feet and astonishingly turned them to stone. Much to her surprise she barely had time to react when the 'puff shot off a spell right after.
Leaping to the right, she tried to bring up her shield only to have the spell zip right through it and feel her left leg all of a sudden feel weighed down with-'Oh no! It was immobilized!'
Luckily the momentum of her jump was enough that with the added weight she was still able to land on her feet without falling...although her left leg did come crashing down hard enough to jar her teeth.
Against all odds Ivory smiled, finding the hilarity in all of this. Even though she still felt a hint of nervousness and hesitancy, she still found this incredibly entertaining, and surprisingly looked forward to more matches like this.
Moving in quick random footwork (as best she could practically dragging one leg), she raised her wand and cast the first spell that came to her mind from her small arsenal. "Petrificus Totalus." Hoping just maybe she'd be casting while Arya's shield wasn't up yet or at the very least that her shield didn't extend as far as her left hand, which is where she was aiming.
"Protego." Bringing up her wand in a large upward swish with the tiniest flick just like she'd practiced, she brought up her shield and concentrated it with enough time to block the second spell sent her way. Letting it dissolve immediately, she tried to balance as well as she could to cast again and in that moment she thought of Cela and the those duels of her's that she'd witnessed. Smiling, the thought of the inspiring older girl made her concentrate on one of the five spells she'd worked on this term.
"Glisseo." Maybe just maybe the loss of shoes would make it hard to keep keep her footing. But then Ivory had other things to worry about because she had to work on mobilizing her own leg again.
Xylon stepped into the duelling arena, hands tucked in his pockets. He had no idea where Gold was. But he was early (for once in his life) which meant that she might be on her way.
He stood in a corner, pretty much in the shadows, simply watching.
Where was she?

WHAT?
The first thing Gold saw was the person in the shadows. Xylon? You had got, got, got to be joking. Xylon Saar was never on time, let alone early - he knew that annoyed her. His lack of punctuality, solely and only apparent in matters related to her.
So, yes.
This was a shock and a miracle.
"You alright?" She asked, as she walked up to him. He looked alright. Certainly not as if he had been hit in the head, you know. "You're early," she added, like that was the most unnatural thing in the world - and, where Xylon was concerned, it was.
"Well." Because he looked alright. Even sane. "Shall we start?"

The duel, that is.
Why was she looking at him like that? Oh yeah. He was early. Xylon had no idea why he was. He should have been late. That would have annoyed her to bits and pieces.
"Fire," he smirked. "How are you?"
Start?
Of course.
He tossed his wand into the air, caught it with one hand --- more to annoy her than anything else --- and inclined his head. Then without giving her any warning whatsoever (all's fair in war and war ---- and that was all they ever had with each other) he flicked his wrist.
Impedimenta.

One year of Xylon!smirks had trained her to give no reaction, save for the occasional eye-roll. Gold gave it, now.
"Water," she tossed back. "... and I'm perfect."
Hint hint.
She was too much of an oldie at this game, not to notice the little flick of his wrist. One of her own, and her wrist-holster was empty as her wand flew right into her hand. Gold drew up a shield, and his spell rebounded. She wasted no time to see whether it hit him or not.

Furnunculus.
Perhaps a combination, next time.
"So you think."
Shoot. Protego. Xylon held up his shield. His own spell came back at him, hit the shield and was deflected. It went off at an odd angle as Gold's curse headed right for him.
He concentrated on the shield, a little irritated that he couldn't cast. Patience, kid.
Serpensortia. Oppugno.
"Have fun."

Gold hadn't let her shield down. She knew enough not to. Xylon's spell, however, did not head back for her. It ricocheted at a rather odd angle, and Gold gave a simple shrug of her shoulders.
There were other things to take up her concentration, here.
Like the snake that had just twisted right out of the air. Lawrd. Gold didn't hate snakes, to be honest, she had even considered keeping one as a pet once, but there it was. The problem. Her problem, staring at her right in the face. She couldn't - simply couldn't - hurt living creatures.
Immobulus. Evanesco.
She had had to react within a matter of seconds, of course, and was almost too late. The snake had been quite near her, before it had frozen. Gold didn't pause at all, after she had vanished it.
Furnunculus. Furnunculus. Furnunculus. Three jets of light shot out of the tip of her wand, one after the other.

"Trust me, I will."
Her tones were quiet.
Did Gold hesitate for a moment before she immbolized the snake he had conjured? Xylon was sure she had. Maybe he had just landed on her weak point. He would have to test out his hypothesis.
"I hate it when you assume that spooky, quiet voice of yours," he said as he drew up his shield. His fault was in the thought that it was a single spell. It wasn't. The moment he had lowered his shield he realized his mistake but by then, his left arm was already covered in big boils. Darn.
Protego.Even as the shield came up the last Furnunculus had hit. Xylon frowned. Serpensortia. Oppugno. To test out if he had found a weakness. The moment the snake had slashed through the air to advance at Gold, he fixed his arm. It was all itchy.

Shucks. She had given herself away. Gold realized that, the moment another serpent twisted itself right out of midair. Well. She was going to harden herself now. Use the Reductor Curse to get rid of those creatures.
Evanesco.
Who had she been kidding?
She couldn’t hurt creatures. She simply couldn’t. Forget that they would disappear within a couple of hours, to begin with. But if it was creature!war that Xylon wanted, it was creature!war that he was going to get.
"You asked for it, mate."
She raised her wand. Avis! Geminio! Geminio! Oppugno! The birds that appeared in midair multiplied, and then re-multiplied, and then headed straight for Xylon in a flock of mad wrath. Gold stole the moment to add another touch, to the atmosphere. Or rather, the floor.

Glisseo.
Oh shoot. Mad birds. Mad ones! Xylon swatted at them, quite forgetting that he was a wizard.
Your wand you idiot.
"Reducto! Reduc -"
Xylon had no idea what happened or how. He flailed, tried to grab hold of something --- anything! --- and found himself skidding across the floor. Dang. That had to be Glisseo. Finite Incantatem.
Incarcerous. At least he had gotten rid of that huge amount of birds. He almost breathed a sigh of relief.

Xylon wasn't serious.
He, apparently, was. Gold's eyes widened as she watched him swat at the birds. Well. Best take advantage of the moment, no? She sent a quick Jelly-Fingers Curse his way. It could be a hit or miss, given the amount of birds that hid from view, but she would take her chances.
For now.
Reducto.
The ropes exploded, right in midair, in a burst of sparkling flames. Gold vanished them at once, with a flick of her wand, and countered his attack with a non-verbal Expelliarmus. She didn't lower her wand, as a jet of red light shot out of its tip, straight for Xylon's wand arm. Furnunculus.

For a moment, Xylon thought that the Reductor Curse had been aimed for him. Merlin forbid, was she in her right senses? Then he realized it was meant for the ropes. Oh.
His shield was already up this time round and he didn't lower it until he was certain she had relaxed her grip on her wand even if slightly. He watched each light bounce off as it hit his shield and then lowered it long enough to send a knee-reversal hex her way.
Rictusempra. Rictusempra. Rictusempra.
No time to breathe.

One, two, three. Her own spells bounced back at her, oneafter the other. Gold was glad she had already drawn up her shield -- right after she had sent all those spells his way, in fact. That little moment of thought was definitely coming in super handy, now.
Hehehe.
HEHEHEHE.
All those spells, one after the other, had weakened her shield, giving her no time to renew it, and the last Tickling Charm hit her, right in the chest. Darn. She could feel herself about to burst into laughter. "Stupefy," Gold spluttered. Finite. Finite. She could feel the laughter fade, the ticklish tingles wearing off. She didn't wait for the odd, tickle-ish feeling in her stomach to subside completely, before she could act.

Densaugeo.
Her left hand did not relax.
Impiriano.
Bull's eye! Xylon relaxed for a moment as he realized one of his tickling charms had hit her. It was something he shouldn't have done because next moment, she had sent a stunner his way.
He had his advatanges of course. She was half laughing after all. Xylon's shield deflected both the stunner and her next spell. He gave a flick of his wand, allowing their immediate surroundings to fill up with smoke. Thick, dark smoke that blocked out vision.
He pointed his wand at her. Tarantallegra.
Perhaps a stunner for effect? Stupefy.

Smoke? Nice touch. Gold wondered if it was harmful. If it would, say, make her cough out her lungs and allow him to gain an advantage over her, in this duel. Well, she wasn't going to wait to find out.
Viseo Ebullio. Impervius.
Head enclosed in a bubble, she ducked the jet of light that he had shot her way, because she knew she didn't have enough time to conjure a proper shield - split-milisecond decision, there.
