After Carter drank most of the tea he stirred it three times. He then flipped the cup over and waited for it to drain. He then looked into his cup. Now to identify the shapes. He looked at rim. Was that a heart? Well... that one was obvious he thought fighting the urge to look over to Marie. Next he looked at the middle section. It kind of looked like a beater's bat. He turned the cup. Now it looked like a bird. He wrote both down. And then he looked at the base. It was an animal of some kind. A cat perhaps. He wrote that down too and began looking up the meanings.

Quote:
Base: cat
Middle: something that looks like a beater's bat or possibly a bird of some kind (vulture maybe?)
Rim: heart

He frowned as he looked over the results. That didn't sound pleasant at all.

Mina busied herself with writing everything down in her notes. She would have to add them to her personal journal later. Maybe tea reading would add some more light to what she was trying to find out about things. She needed to figure it all out and she was going to do it if it was the last things she did.

Finishing up her notes, she walked up and retrieved a bag. Mmmm, she did love Earl Grey. The scent of bergamot was one of her favourite scents in the world. Bring it back to her cup, she looked up at the board for some instruction. She needed to clear her head. Now that was going to be easier said then done in her opinion, but she would make an attempt. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath and tried to close everything out and clear her mind of as much as possible. She was rather troubled and the task was a bit harder for her than she had expected. Biting her lip softly, she exhaled and finally managed to clear her head of most the negative, well at least for the time being.

Opening her eyes, she reached for her cup after the tea steeped long enough with her left hand. It was rather odd for her to use that hand, as she was so used to her right, but it had to be done this way and she wasn't in the position to question, was she?

Slowly, she sipped at the tea as she thought about the single thought in her mind at the moment. The scent alone seemed to relax her. Yes, tea reading would be something she would have to keep doing. Her mind was started to slowly wander again, but she pulled herself together as she continued to sip. It was a good batch of Earl Grey. She would have to ask where it came from. Perhaps she would use some of it in her baking.

Pulling the cup from her lips, she looked inside to see it was time to swirl. After giving the cup three good swirls, she poured the remaining liquid onto the saucer and reached for her notes.

Starting with the rim, she looked at the leaves closely. There were everywhere, but she could make out a few things Was that...wait bones and a bush? She seriously had to look into that for sure now. Maybe it wasn't a good read or something? She'd have to try it again soon, she told herself.

Moving on she looked to the middle. She hoped she'd have better luck in finding something more clear there. Narrowing her eyes slightly, she thought she spotted a distinct shape of something. Yes, it was clearly a cat and what looked to be a broken necklace or something. She had a feeling this reading wasn't going like it should. There were too many things she was seeing. She would definitely have to do the reading over again.

Sighing, she finally looked to the base and expected the worst. It didn't take her long to notice a few small shapes. There was definitely a snake there and something that looked like a wolf. But the thing that shocked her was the triangle there. Yes it was definitely triangles. No where anyone could mistake it for anything else. It were triangles.

Abby smiled and nodded, understanding. "Thanks, that helps tons," she said. Glancing back at her teacup, she reached for it with her left hand. Oops, wait. Wrong one. She switched to her right hand and peered inside. The arrow was pointing away from her. That meant, it was pointing up! Phew. That meant 'good direction.' Relieved, she scribbled down her final notes on her reading.

Quote:
RIM: Leaf- the turning over of a new leaf; inevitable changes with the passage of time.
Meaning: Refers to transferring schools

MIDDLE: Candle- there will be light upon an uncertain path; help from friends
Meaning: How smooth the change will be is uncertain

BASE: Arrow (pointing up)- Good direction
Meaning: Most likely, a smooth transition/will end up being a good year. Frankly, that's a relief.

She looked up at him, not even saying a word.

But she did say she was... Wait, no she didn't. Oops. "I'm sorry, Professor Dude." That you didn't think about shatterproofing those crystal balls. This guy was obviously NOT a Ravenclaw in his school years. And she would have said that if she hadn't had points taken from her and if she had more taken, she knew the Slytherins in the classroom would hurt her after class.

She turned back to her tea cup to see what kind of Symbols she saw.

Was that a bat? Yes, that was a bat at the rim. She was pretty sure that was an apple at the base, but what was that in the middle? Hmm. It looked like a castle, so that's what she was going with. After figuring what the symbols were, she picked her quill up and wrote them down on the sheet of parchment that had the directions of this activity on it:

She was done. Yayy!
Pssh. She was not sorry and he knew it. Still, he bit his tongue, especially at the Professor DUDE part, and continued to walk around the classroom, observing them to make sure they didn't choke on tea leaves or do something silly like drop a teacup.

Ellie nodded.

"Alright. That's more clear." Not really...

"And what are these?" she asked, pointing to three more small leaf clumps at the rim.... "They look like, maybe...a balloon?... mushroom-looking thing... and a... a... is that a.. goat?" Hahaha. A goat?

Tee hee hee heeeee.

Nolan couldn't help but smirk. He'd heard about the catastrophe down in the Potions classroom, and the detention that had resulted afterwards and now, these symbols made PERFECT sense. He'd not had the pleasure of meeting this woman yet and now he was even LESS ecstatic about having to introduce himself to her. Hmmm. Maybe he should do his OWN leaf reading later to find out if meeting her was a good idea.

"Well then, I think those symbols make perfect sense, now," he said with a grin.

"You have quite an elaborate cup here," Nolan said with a small chuckle as he looked at the symbols. "The balloons indicate a strong social life, and the mushroom means rapid growth and success. If that is, indeed, a goat that you're seeing, it means that your persistance in whatever you pursue will pay off. Can you think of anything going on in your life right now that that might apply to?" he asked.

Mina pulled the parchment with common symbols out and looked it over. She seriously wasn't liking what she saw for sure. It made her worry a bit as she read through the meanings.

Meanings
Rim
BONES - situation calling for innerstrength and spiritual fortitude.
BUSH - an obstacle to new opportunities; branches signify choices.
Middle
CAT - deceit; an untrustworthy friend.
NECKLACE - complete = personal relationship stability; broken = instability in a personal relationship.
Base
SNAKE - someone who does not deserve your trust.
WOLF - you will be challenged or betrayed by someone.
TRIANGLE - you are involved in a three way relationship; if wedge shaped = one person is getting in the way of your relationship with the other person.
Blink...blink...blink

She really wasn't seeing what she saw, was she? No it had to be a fluke of some sort. The symbols in the rim didn't seem to bother her, but the ones in the Middle and Base kind of scared her slightly. In the back of her mind, she knew there were probably right. Even the voices in her head, KNEW the reading was spot on. It wasn't a fluke at all. The thought in her head at the time had lead to this and she knew it was true to some extent. The feeling in the pit of her stomach was enough of a confirmation for her. Biting her lip, she shook her head. She had asked for something and there it was in front of her in the reading.

Alex looked at the Professor in wonder, was he smirking? Alex looked at him in curiousity, The Professor was grinning? "So you're saying their warning of of Professor Lefay?" Alex had repeated herself but she was surprised, she was brought up to respect Professors.. Alex frowned in thought was the Bear, Bones, and Snake telling her to be weary of the Potions Mistress?

Rae started putting her things away while thinking if this would actually happen.. Everyone talked about how divination was a joke, but Rae couldn't supress the thoughts of if these predictions came true. It was kind of an eerie feeling.

"Sometimes, the readings you have while performing any type of Divination reveal information or bring up topics that you hadn't even thought about," Nolan explained. He was finding out loads of new stuff about himself all the time! "So it's definitely a possibility that it could apply to that."

Hmmmm. Well, in that case...

Nolan went to his cupboard and started rummaging around inside, and a few moments later he emerged with a teacup in his hands. "Here, use this. It's a teacup that's gone through a tea leaf reading, but the leaves were then glazed into the cup with a paste," he explained. He turned the cup over, just to prove that the leaves were GLUED to the bottom. It was a lovely teaching device.

"Take this and take a look inside and let me know what symbols you see, and what it might mean for this person who drank this cup," he said with a smile. WHO drank the cup? That was a mystery...

"No, not necessarily," he assured her. He didn't want the poor girl to be frightened of Lafay! Although--the woman had probably taken care of that herself. "It could also be referring to events that have happened recently...such as the previous lesson she held," he explained.

Because pretty much EVERYONE was in agreement that Lafay was...what did the symbols say? A grouchy and difficult person. Yesss.

Vanessa the Snot Girl l Rachels Rule | rock, tumble,&roll ❆ adorable coffee bean

Hmm. So Brody had drank enough tea now, and she placed her nearly empty, bar a few inches of tea, down on the desk, and looked at it carefully. Because they looked nice right? Picking up the spoon again, she carefully put it back into her cup, and gave the liquid that was left in there three swirls. Hmm. That should do it. As she put the spoon back down onto the desk, next to the saucer, she glanced around the classroom. Hmm. Interesting.
Now She had to drain the cup, and knowing her she would probably get it everywhere, because she was a little ditzy. Carefully she turned the cup over, leaving it on top of the saucer, so that the tea could drain out. She took three deep breaths, waiting for the tea leaves to settle, so that she could start her reading. After taking three breaths, she took the cup off of the saucer, and looked down at the tea leaves. Interesting.

She looked carefully at the tea leaves, trying to see what they were. Well that one looked like square thing. But it had handles. She looked a little closer. "Oh a baagg!" okay she'd said that a little loud, and she smiled, before looking down again. The next two things she saw, looked similar, but one had a triangle on the top. Maybe that was meant to be a tower? She wasn't too sure. She wrote it down anyway, just in case. Then she looked at the finaly symbol, it looked like a mountain, but why was there a mountain in there. Ahhh! A Volcano. She grinned, writing that down. Now to interpret them.

Quote:
Rim - Bag, Open
Middle - Tower
Base - Volcano

Bag Open = Escape

Tower = Risk of Disappointment

Volcano - there is an obstruction in your life that must be dealt with before it explodes.

Hmm. Brody looked at what she had written, and sighed, knwoing what they all led to. Her parents, disownment, and just generally annoyment. Meh. She should have known it really. She disregarded that symbol that was in the rim, because in some ways she didn't really want to escape her family, because she loved them. But she knew the symbol in the middle was true, it was already true, because she knew she'd already disappointed her parents. The girl sighing, well, it was only a reading, and it might not be true right? She coul hope.

Oooh, it was time to do their tea reading now. It was a good thing that he didn't mind tea, because otherwise he would be rather grossed out and not want to do the lesson. But that was okay, because it didn't really matter now.

He got up and headed to the desk, picking up a spoon and a packet of Earl Gray before heading back to his desk. He took a seat again and then carefully opened the packet so that he could slowly pour it into his cup of hot water. And he didn't want to get burned because that would be rather unpleasant and he didn't want to get hurt. He carefully stirred the tea so it was blended but didn't spill all over the place.

Now he had to try to clear his head of thought. And he wasn't sure how easy that would be when he had a million thoughts going on in his head. And trying to get rid of them was only making it worse. Soon he would be giving himself a headache if this didn't stop.

He knew that he wanted to do the reading on now. He sipped his tea as he focused on his question.

Finally! The tea was cool enough to drink. She sipped at it, tapping the fingers of her left hand on the desk as she did so. It was awfully weird drinking from the wrong hand. Just wrong really. She swallowed quickly, just in case the taste was still there.

Phew, drinking done. Now to swirl. One, two, three. And turn over to drain. Whilst she was waiting, Nia wrote the instructions down on her parchment, for future reference and easy revision.

Now...for the results. She squinted into the cup. They didn't seem to be the most distinct shapes. Perhaps though that was all that could be expected from tea leaves. In the top part, the present bit, was...well, what Nia thought was a bird. She looked closer - it didn't seem to be any particular type of bird. A flying one, wings spread out. In the middle were some blobs shapes that could be interpreted as...she scanned the list....clouds? And in the bottom was an oval with sixe smaller ovals around it. She tilted her head to get a better look at it, before checking the list. Ah yes, that was probably a turtle. She nodded in agreement to herself.

She wrote down her symbols, and the meanings beside them.

Quote:
Flying bird - good news
Clouds - Optimism
Turtle - lasting success through slow, determined and patient effort
So at the present time she had good news? And then she was going to be optimistic - but in the future would only get lasting success by working hard. Well, that could certainly be a game plan. Winners work hard to overcome problems and get success. She didn't need tea leaves to tell her that, but at the same time, it was reassuring.

Simon smiled at Professor Reynolds. "Thanks Professor." Simon wanted to know who's it was and he hoped that the Professor might tell him later if he went to see him after the class.

Simon sat down at his desk looking at the cup, he hoped that he'd be able to see something good.

Simon looked at the first sybol, it looked like a boat so he looked to see what that ment.

Quote:
Sybol one: Boat - worthwhile journey; your ship is coming in.
He looked at the next one that looked like a dice, though he wasn't sure.

Quote:
Sybol two: Dice: destiny and change, go with the flow
He looked at the last one and sighed, he wasn't sure about this one but it looked like the sun.

Quote:
Sybol three: Sun: a new beginning.
"Professor is this right?" Simon asked suddenly, he had a feeling he knew who's cup it was, he had a feeling it was the Professors but he wasn't sure.

Alexandrie nodded slowly, she had a feeling the tea reading was meaning something that would happen soon. She eyed the cup wearily poking it writting down her tea reading slowly:

Quote:
Alexandrie Adrasteia Malfoy-Lupin's Tea Reading
Subject of Reading: Potions Class/Professor Lefay
Top: Bear, Exclaimation Mark
Middle: Bones
Bottom: Snake, Wheel

Interpretation: A Grouchy adult will do something, I shouldn't get angry and watch what I might say. A situation requires me to reach inside myself to draw upon strength to not get angry? Someone will untrustworthy and I shouldn't trust them. While this is happening something might change the direction of my life that I have no way of preventing.
Alex glanced at her cup again she didn't trust it, the thing was telling her not to trust the Potions Professor. She sighed picking it up with her weak hand looking inside again. Sure enough those were the symbols..wait was there a second in the middle? She peeked at it finally realising it was a cub She sighed changing her reading again.

Bottom: Snake, Wheel

Someone will be untrustworthy and I shouldn't trust them. While this is happening something might change the direction of my life that I have no way of preventing.
Alex smiled, that made more sense then her first one. Still didn't change a thing..she didn't trust her cup. at all.

Nolan walked over to Simon's desk and looked at his notes. "Well, like I said before, all the symbols look different to each person, although indeed I do think there is something in there that looks like a boat, dice, and a sun," he said with a chuckle. "So, if your translations of these symbols in correct--which they are--then I think whoever used this cup is going to go on a great journey somewhere," he told him.

Professional Twirler Mourned and Missed

Patroclus added the tea leaves to his tea cup; he allowed it to sit for a moment. The steamed produced by the hot water was wonderful to watch as it twisted and curled. Breathing in he could already taste the earl gray. He allowed his head to lull back as he closed his eyes pushed all the thoughts from his head. A small thought kept creeping back in, he would banish it alone for it to return.

Getting a little annoyed he decided to drink. The first sip was a little bit of a shock due to the temperate, but the rest slid down easy. He gave the tea 3 good stirs and tipped out the last of the cup’s contents.

He gazed into the cup and there plastered to the sides was the tea leaves, gazing at each level of the tea cup he scribbled down what he saw.

Quote:
Rim: DEER
Middle: WINGS
Base: DRUMS

Meanings
Deer – a shy, timid person; you should be more assertive to overcome shyness.
Wings – do not box yourself in or limit yourself unnecessarily.
Drum – a change; a call to action.
There in his cup was a feeling that had been plaguing Patroclus for a while: loneliness.

"And, as a few more students pointed out, if you were one of those individuals who happen to use BOTH hands equally, you determine the correct hand by first reaching for the cup, stopping, and using the OTHER hand to drink instead," he explained.

"Now, before we get to the fun part and start doing our own tea leaf readings, there is one more concept you need to understand," he said. He stopped the twirling of his wand and catched the cup before it fell from midair to the ground, and placed it back on his desk. "The symbols formed by the tea leaves will fall in different areas of the cup, and there are three regions that you mentally break the teacup into--base, middle, and rim. Tea leaf symbols that fall in the rim section correspond with the present time. The middle shows insight into the near future, and the base repesents the ultimate outcome or conclusion that you should draw from your tea leaves." he explained. That was a lot of info--he hoped they were taking notes!

"Before we begin, does anyone know how we determine where the base, middle, and rim sections fall on the inside of the teacup?" he asked. This would be the last question, then he'd get started with the reading part. WOOOT!

The base starts at...well, the base of the cup, and goes to the level where the tea was RIGHT before you dumped it into your saucer. The area in between those is the middle."

"Now, time to do some readings," he told the class with a grin. His favorite part! He waved his wand and the stack of teacups he had sitting on his desk rose into the air and floated around the room, with each cup landing in front of a student. Once that was done, he flicked his wand once more, and a tea kettle rose off of the desk and began to pour hot water into the cups of the students in the front row.

"Up on my desk is a tray with individual bags of Earl Grey tea leaves. Come up to the front, grab a bag of tea leaves, and head back to your desks and add the leaves to your hot water. Keep in mind that IS hot, and please DON'T SPILL!" he told them sternly. He pulled some spoons out and set them next to the bags of tea leaves, so they'd have something to stir their tea with if they didn't feel like using their wands.

"Before you begin drinking, take a minute and try to clear your head of all thoughts. If there is a certain thought or problem that continues to pop up while you're attempting this, that will be the subject of your reading," he explained. "If you simply cannot think of ANYTHING, you will do a general reading, and the results you get will give you advice on life in general BUT I would prefer you have some sort of question or situation to focus on while doing your reading."

"As you sip, focus on that thought, and try not to drink any of the leaves," he added with a chuckle, although he knew it was sometimes hard to avoid. "Leave a small amount of tea in the bottom of your cup, and once you're finished, give it THREE good swirls to get the leaves spread out amongst the cup. Then turn it over in your saucer to drain the remaining tea, and wait at least three breaths before turning it back over. Then you may begin your reading."

He knew he was throwing a lot of information at them at once, so he flicked his wand, and a few notes copied themselves on the blackboard behind his head:

"And, finally, I'll pass out a copy of common symbols and their meanings to each of you...keep this parchment handy, cause you never know when you may need it again," he told them all with a smirk. Wink wink. Nudge nudge.

"Alright--have at it," Nolan said with a grin, stepping off to the sides to allow the students to come grab their tea leaves.

OOC: Okey dokey guys, go ahead and RP yourselves doing a reading! I'll leave the thread open for another day or two, so don't worry about rushing through your RP, you have plenty of time to spread it out! If you have ANY questions please ask Nolan, I know there's a lot of info so if you are confused PLEASE ask :] A little chatter is fine, but no in depth discussions of your love lives, please, you're supposed to be FOCUSING your minds (and remember Nolan IS still in the room and can hear everything you're saying!)

Muaha. When the professor came up to greet him Jimbo only looked at him with a crazy face. Sugar rules. Very very good, sugar is. Okay, okay, soooo, NOTES.
Jimbo set up his notebook in front of him and listened as the professor spoke. He wrote down anything that he thought he should remember and a couple other things considering he was so hyped on sugar he could barely pay attention, he figured he should write it all down. Once they were told to get their tea leaves Jimbo got up and skipped over to grab some. On his way back, he managed to trip on his own two feet. On the ground, he stared at the floor and started giggling laughing. Then he got up and headed towards his seat again. He looked at the steaming cup of water in front of him and the tea leaves in his hand. Putting down the tea leaves, he picked up his quill and copied down the instructions on the board.

4. Leave small amount of tea in cup, give liquid three good swirls, then drain remaining tea into saucer
5. Identify symbols in the three areas of your cup (rim, middle and base) and take notes on the meanings of these symbols and what they might mean in regards to the subject of your reading.
That done, he stared at the first step for a bit. Once he finally got that through his mind, he picked up his tea leaves and put them in the water, watching as they floated down. Okay, okay, so so clear mind!

Jimbo stared straight ahead and tried to think of nothing but all he could think of was cupcakes, and wanting more of them. Well, the professor said if a problem kept coming up that he could focus the reading on that problem. Lack of cupcakes is a problem. Yush.

Sooooo, thinking of cupcakes, Jimbo picked up his cup, then switched hands and started drinking, wishing the tea tasted like cupcakes. Once there was a bit of tea left he swished it in his cup THREE times and then poured the tea into the saucer.

Looking back at his cup, he tried to see if he could find any shapes. Ooh, was that a cupcake? Perking up (which sounds dangerous at the moment) Jimbo picked up his quill and wrote down what he saw and what it could mean.

Okay, okay, okay. So, since the RIM was like the present, then that means...
It means Jimbo is hyped up on sugar. That was very true. Hey, maybe this divination stuff really did work. Okay, okay, so the cake he saw. Right. That means...HE GETS HIS CUPCAKE! That's something to look forward to. Yay!
And, the castle. That one confused him a little. Surely, it didn't mean stop eating cupcakes? Cupcakes were good! Why would he stop eating them? Expand horizons...
Hm...well, maybe it wouldn't hurt to eat something different once in a while. It didn't mean stop eating cupcakes, but more like, stop eating JUST cupcakes. He could start eating...gummies. Or, chocolate. Yeah, chocolate is good.
He liked this Divination stuff. It was helping him with his candy problems. Happy with his reading, Jimbo sat back and grinned, waiting.

"I think it looks like a broom--but what I think isn't important. What do YOU see?" he asked with a grin.
Hmmm. Totally interesting. Because he sees BOTH! But...yes...the first thing that came into his mind was a broom, later on he managed to relate it to a wand. Which is totally okay, considering both are made from wood.

Oh! He was liking this Divination stuff. And he was going with BROOM...because, well, that's what he thought first, that's why he'd asked..."broom or wand?"...not "wand or broom?".
Quote:
BROOM - new home; new era in your life.
Oh. Well. That was obvious. Perhaps.

Let's summarize! Which meant...let's write this stuff down.

At the rim (present) he saw a grasshopper. In the middle (future) was a beetle. And at the base (the outcome)...an amazing broom (which could've been a wand, but first come, first served...and he saw the broom first).

Treyen stood eying the parchment quite a bit. This was easy, right? Because 'summer' is practically right around the corner...so it meant he was having an awesome summer, perhaps hunting down for trees and make wands...or meeting a wandmaker in the woods! OH! He couldn't wait! AWESOMENESS.

The future seemed quite far away, and a bit trickier, but he thought it was probably what needed to happen in order to achieve....the grand finale! That means...the new era, not the end.

The new era. The era in which he was going to become like Gilderoy! Seriously, life couldn't be better! He was, in the end, to be another Gilderoy Lockhart in the history of magic! Yeah, he loved Divination.
