Yup, great strong William Cullack was a nobody. Wait, no he wasn't, he was strong, he was courageous, he was...hyper! His frown remained as he looked down at his wand before hearing a voice. Looking up he linked rapidly, as if not expecting anyone to speak to him since he was lost in his own little world like normal. "Well it's quite fun though; you never know when someone might walk into the spell and boom." he replied, a slight smirk on his face.
The girl appeared to be a bit younger than him, though not by much. This should be an interesting match up he thought, having seen her perform the shield spell beforehand. It wasn't the same color as his; his was more blue than anything and he hoped it was right but he thought it would be fun to have some, well fun. "I'm William, think I've seen you around before." he introduced himself. May as well tell her his name before he cast at her he mused.
Grayson had to concede he had a point, as the boy responded to her observation. Although her mischievous grin didn't falter. No need, and besides, it seemed he might be another person who understood fun. The type of fun she got involved in more often than not, at least. "But you have to hope someone walks into the spell, before it fades away," she pointed out. No spells lasted forever, or at least that was what she'd always been led to believe. Maybe at Hogwarts they learned different. She was hoping to find out. At least she knew she had Raven to channel some of her mischief through, and there was always the possibility of meeting even more people who understood her.
A curious expression crossed her face as he looked at her, almost like he was examining her. Like she had him, but he hadn't really been aware of it. It was weird feeling like you were being judged or something. She didn't really like it. But then he spoke, and she bounced a little as she brushed the discomfort away. "Grayson. And really?," she replied. If he thought he'd seen her around, maybe she wasn't as invisible as she felt half the time.

"Thanks," Elvedina said. "Alright, I'll try again." She smiled. "And this time I wont duck." She held her wand out and prepared for whatever Jack was going to throw at her. You can do this, she told herself. What's the point in learning a spell if you can't use it in actual combat? Now focus. She focused all her concentration on producing a blue shield. She kept one eye on Jack, waiting for his spell and the rest of her concentration was on forcing a shield out of the vine wood wand in her hand. "Whenever you're ready," she told Jack.
Jack pointed his wand at Ella. "Incarcerous!" he cried and watched as ropes came out of his wand and headed towards her.
Jack pointed his wand at Ella. "Incarcerous!" he cried and watched as ropes came out of his wand and headed towards her.
Elvedina's first instinct was to duck, like she had before. Somehow, she swallowed that instinct and, hand shaking a little, she flicked her wrist and cried "Revertoscutum!" with all her focus on creating a blue shield. Instantly, a blue shield appeared in front of her. It wasn't really dark, but it was better than before. The ropes hit the shield and, when they passed, they had become nothing but fibres that fell limply to the ground in front of her. "I did it," she whispered. "It worked! It actually worked!" She waved her wand and the shield disappeared. "Did you see that?" she called to jack. "The spell worked! Just like it did for you!" She couldn't remember ever feeling happier and more proud of her accomplishments. "Do you want a go, now?" she asked after a moment's mental celebration.
Justin took a deep breath. Selena seemed too kind to cast an offensive spell at. "Ok so you cast an offensive spell at me first. I don't wanna hurt you at all" he said getting ready to cast the defensive spell.
Selena arched a brow. Was it because she was a girl? That would just be wrong! She would show him that she was every bit as capable! "Glacius!" Selena said as she aimed it at Justin. Her face showed no emotion as ice flew from her wand and headed towards Justin. He would deflect it right? At least... she hoped so...
'I'll be your partner, Alcemee!' Maddie said, going over
Alcemee smiled at her and said, "Great! Thanks Maddie. Do you know any of the other spells that Professor Truebridge mentioned, other than Revertoscutum?"

A bright teal shield appeared in front of her, strong and unwavering. She ended the spell and the practiced it a few more times, feeling entirely confident in her ability to perform this new kind of shield.
When Professor Truebridge began to address the class again, Cadence turned to look at him, listening closely to what he said. Cadi was definitely ready to have someone work with her. After he set them free to continue working Cadence looked around and yelled said, "Anyone need a partner?"
Whoa. Good way to call attention to yourself. Seemed like something Jimbo would have done. Turning to look at the girl he grinned and decided she might be good to work with. He walked over to her and said, "I am indeed in need of a partner." Haha, rhyme.
Holding his wand at his side he continued, "So...do you want to attack of defend?" Hopefully she picked attack...or defend. Actually he wasn't sure. He kinda wanted to defend to practice the spell more, of course, but he didn't want anything coming at him. So maybe he should attack? He wasn't sure. That's why he was letting her pick.
She looked about his age. He probably would not have approached her if she didn't. Oh. Right. Maybe they should introduce themselves?
Meh. Maybe not. They could stay anonymous and be like...blind DADA partners...if that made sense.

Truebridge added, "The shield will always appear blueish, though the shade of blue may vary from person to person. Some may be more visible than others, but that isn't an indicator of strength. For now, just practice casting the spell and be careful not to trip over the incantation."
"Ah," Truebridge smiled encouragingly. "Some are to do with strength, some are to do with personality, others are indeed to do with the nature of the spell, and some do not have any visible colour at all. Some spells are a certain colour because that was simply how it manifested itself when the original creator made it, and when intent is focused and the spell passed on, then that is the way it continued to be. In other cases, you couldn't change the colour if you tried. In general the hue might be a little different based on the strength of the cast or the caster's personality, but thats about all the difference you'll find." Confusing? Sure. It was advanced magical studies. The sort of thing those who went on to study at University tended to focus on.
ooc: I'll leave it here for a bit for the ESTers to catch up. Go ahead and RP practicing the incantation, or the spell or just taking notes, up to you.
Emma stood up, after finishing her notes and began practicing Revertoscutum. She cried "Revertoscutum!" and a strong turquoise hue appeared, so this is my colour, thought Emma. She then looked around to see other people practicing with partners, she then asked, "Hey does anyone need a partner?". She hoped someone would reply.
Santi, hands in his pockets, gazed around looking for a partner. He didn't care if he worked on someone old or got a new connection for he was more curious about how his shield would hold up against a spell.
Scribbling down notes on her parchement, she couldn't decide which shield sounded cooler, the 'glass to sand' or the Impiriano shield. Either way, they both sounded like a lot of fun for her to cast.
Pushing the notes aside, she twirled her wand and watched as Truebridge preform the spell. It was a pretty blue-green, reminded her of the ocean which caused her mind to wander briefly.
Now it was thier turn to give it a go. Standing, she stared into the space before her as she repeated to tongue twister of a incantation. "Re-ver-toe-skew-tum...reeveertoeeskewwtuum....revertoscutum..."
Once she felt like she had the pronunciation, she pointed her wand at the empty space her eyes were fixated on and cast the shield.
"Revertoscutum!"
An light turquoise crystalline shield appeared infront of her and she gazed at it with a satisfied expression. Holding for a moment longer, she let it drop before casting again.
Ivory stuck her tongue out of the corner of her mouth in concentration as she practiced the wand motion (Sure it was a simple point but she figured one had to be sure to not make it a jab or a stab in the air or even poke) and the incantation, making small notes on her journal as she adjusted her grip on her wand to make it firm enough to hold it but loose enough to be flexible and as she tried to find the appropriate pronunciation. Re-ver-to-scu-tum, Re-verto-scutum. RevertoScutum. Revertoscutum!
It helped her a bit to try and find her center of gravity so that her feet were nicely planted and she could bring up her wand for the point more smoothly.
Finally when she'd gotten both pat down she concentrated on intent, on connecting the three separate aspects. The incantation, the wand motion, the intent and outcome.
Speaking as confidently as she could, she brought up her wand and focused.
"Revertoscutum!"
From the tip of the blue-purple flame of wand blossomed a bubble like shield around her person. And much like the ever present flame at the tip of her wand, this shield was blue with a deep purple hue that even then managed to retain it clarity and sheen. Peering behind it, she spied her best friend Arya not too far off and waved her hand enthusiastically until she finally felt it down.
Bounding up to her friend, she smiled just as enthusiastically.

'Why don't we just use Orchideous, for today?' Maddie asked, and pulled her wand from it's holster. 'So, the incantation is Orchideous, Or-chid-ee-us. You use your wand like this' she said, and gave a quick demonstration. Flowers came out of the end of her wand 'You want to give it a try?' she asked

Patroclus really wanted to try out this spell, but first of all he would need a partner.
He looked around to find someone who was currently solo like himself.

Cadence smiled as a boy volunteered to be her partner, and he skipped the introduction and went right to asking about who would go first. Well, ooookay, then. Jude would hopefully not have a problem with her working with THIS boy, so she nodded at him, accepting his offer or partnering. "Right, well, I've got the shield down really well, so how about you cast at me first?" she suggested and walked away from him a bit, readying her wand for him to cast.

Mina glanced around. She needed a partner and all her friends were already partnered up. Seeing only a few others still looking for partners, she noticed a Gryffindor from her year. Walking over, she smiled sweetly. "Want to partner up?" she asked.
The REAL Sorting Hat: "Ravenclaw!" This monkey is bananas.

Fun had been his middle name during his first two years at Hogwarts, then he had learned that there had been a time and place for fun. Though this year he didn't really care much. He wanted to have fun, even if it meant doing things he normally wouldn't. The one downfall of having the kind of fun he liked was having hardly any friends. He knew there were others who thought like him and it appeared he'd found one.
Nodding a bit he twirled his wand in his left hand, his blue eyes sparkling. He was getting eager to test out his shield and the other spells. Good old practice he thought as he grinned, "Nice to meet you Grayson. And yes, I've seen you in the halls and other places. If you're anything like me you like to be alone, or you have no friends which wouldn't be good." he examined, eying her carefully. He sure hoped it wasn't the last one, that would be too weird. Deciding to change the subject he tilted his head again, blinking a few times. "So you want to try out your shield first?" he asked, an air of mystery in his voice now.

A voice to his side, made Patroclus turn, it was Third Year Raven. "That would be great, I would love to," He smiled back, "Patroclus by the way."
He gestured to the girl for them to move into the dueling arena.
With his wand by his side, being the gentleman he was he asked "As always ladies first, would you like to attack or repel?"
Willow closed her eyes and cleared her mind. She pictured pieces of sharp glass coming at her. She held out her wand and said "Revertoscutum!" She re-opened her eyes and a pale blue colored shield that looked like a wall shot out of her wand. She gave a small smile, stood up and looked around to see if anyone would want to partner up with her. This spell didn't look like much fun to try and complete by yourself.

Pulling her wand out from its holster, she bowed her head slightly. "I'm Mina and thank you Patroclus," she said. "I think I will repel."
Yay! Maddie had a partner! 'I'm Madeline!' she said happily 'But you can call me Amelie or Maddie. Most people do' she shrugged 'It's nice to meet you, Noir. That's a pretty name, by the way. Are you French?'
"Thank you..well..my mother is French" she smiled to Maddie.."Are you french too?"
Mina smiled and made her way over to the dueling arena. She was looking forward to trying out the spell.
Pulling her wand out from its holster, she bowed her head slightly. "I'm Mina and thank you Patroclus," she said. "I think I will repel."
"As you wish", Patroclus replied with a small grin. He then positioned himself and with a flick of his wand casted in Mina's direction. "Incarcerous!" from the tip of his wand shot a snake of rope, intent on winding itself around Mina.
What would happen, had Patroclus quite excited.

Mina smiled and she raised her wand. Pointing it, she cast before her. "Revertoscutum!"
The faint aqua blush-green shield formed before her as she noticed the rope coming toward her. A part of her was a bit nervous of what was about to happen, but keeping her worry a bay, she waited. The rope quickly moved toward her as she held her breathe. Just as the rope collided with the shield, it change into fibers of cotton. Tilting her head slightly, she looked at the cotton. She know the spell was supposed to do that, but it still amazed her to see it happen.

Grayson's expression turned slightly pleased as it seemed her assumption that William appreciated mischief was verified, as well as the fact he agreed with her observation. "Thank you," she said with a grin. "It pays to know that type of stuff, you know. That way you can plan things better." She may have allied herself with Raven for this term, but she'd been getting into and out of trouble long before this term. It was amusing, really, especially since she had the advantage of people not expecting her to do things. And the more people she found that agreed with her, on the fun aspect, the better. Like a little posse.
Her green eyes followed his hand as he twirled his wand, interested. She wanted to learn stuff like that. "It's nice to meet you too," she said, still a little distracted. "How'd you do that?," she blurted out, before realizing he'd answered her earlier question. And had apparently actually understood it, which was better than when she'd talked to Diggy in Diagon Alley and he'd misinterpreted her question about his name. She shrugged. "Not so much either one, really. It's more like people don't notice me unless I'm getting into things." Like the incident with the stairwell. Being tiny was also a disadvantage, since she kind of liked attention. And she couldn't tell what William thought her answer would have been, but at least she was honest. A giggle escped her as he brought a mysterious quality to his voice as he continued, though. "Sure. I think it's okay, at least, so bring it on." She didn't back down anyway, so even if she thought her shield would fail, she'd take the challenge. And besides, she was curious if he was going to do the ice spell again.

Arya was playing with her shield, casting and letting it drop repeatedly. The shield was easy enough, and she was enjoying the nice color it was producing. She could have really used this spell last term.
When Truebridge started to speak, she looked away from the bleachers and to her professor while he spoke about the shield. So it was only good from transforming things back to there previous state. No matter, she was still good at Protego.
Juuust when she was about to begin her search for a partner, she heard that oh so familiar voice. Turning with a smile she faced her best friend. "Of course, Ivy. You cast first, then I'll cast on you." She twirled her wand. "Sound good?"
