Jack saw the birds flying towards him and pointed his wand. "Revertoscutum!" he cried, and the blue-green shield appeared in front of him. The flock of birds flew into the shield and they turned into eggs.

" Cool."
He looked at Ella. " Do you want another go at attacking or do you want to defend?" he asked.

It took Elvedina a second to take in what she'd seen. "That was amazing!" she cried. "They just...out of my wand and then...eggs!! Wow!" She took a moment to calm down. "Alright, I'll try defending now." She practiced once to make the shield. "Revertoscutum!" a blue shield formed in front of her. "Alright!" she called, "Whenever you're ready."

Jack pointed his wand at Ella. "Glacius!" he cried and watched as ice came out of his wand and headed towards her.

Elvedina hadn't expected ice...or anything, for that matter. She held out her want, closed her eyes, turned her face away and cried "Revertoscutum!" She didn't know how well the shield worked, but guessed not so well as she was doused in freezing cold water with little chunks of ice left in it. "I don't think I did it right," she said sheepishly. "Um...you wouldn't know a spell for drying wet clothes and hair, would you?" she asked Jack through chattering teeth.

She was so not afraid of anything a young girl like the one attacking her could throw at her untill she saw it. It was a glisseo charm she saw coming and not thinking much of anything would come of it she said, "Revertostutum", concentrating just a bit untill she saw just how huge the ice block of spell came and and concentrated hard last minute changing her small light blur water shield to the strongest water sheild she could manage in a shade of dark green. But since it was a last minute action when the spell hit the girls glisseo she was knocked backwards to the floor though she did manage to stop the spell. She looked toward the young girl stunned she could even do a proper glacius. Once she got over the initial shock she got up and said, "Good job, I really did not expect someone so young to be able to do that. Anyway, it's you're turn. I know all the attack spells so just choose one and brace yourself, though if you're last spell is any indication you'll do great.".

Hermione took out her wand once again. "Revertostutum" she said but once again only a faded shield disappeared rather quickly. "I don't know what I am doing wrong professor. Is it my pronunciation, or am I just not concentrating hard enough?" asked Hermione.

Jack cast a drying charm on Ella and smiled at her. "You almost got it right." he said. "I'll cast another spell which doesn't involve water if you want to try it again".

Alex gasped as the ice spell hit the shield and knocked the gryffindor on the ground. She hadn't thought she had done it so hard or so powerfully. "Alright." She said nodding her head, "Sorry about that you know hadn't meant for it to be so strong. I thought you'd put up a stronger shield you know being older." Alex didn't like being called young so she was being a little rude. Alex then decided on the spell, "Do Glacius, I want to try to block that spell." holding her wand in front of her preparing to block the spell.

Alcemee didn't know the spells that Professor Truebridge had mentioned to use at the shield. She looked around for a partner and said, "Does anyone need a partner?" She hoped that if anyone answered, he/she would know those other spells.

'I'll be your partner, Alcemee!' Maddie said, going over

Ellie lifted her head up as the professor spoke.

When he mentioned partners and more practicing, however, she groaned and put her head back down. She was becoming sick in the stomach now. She just needed class to be over so she could go. lay. down.

Herminny just gave the girl a serious smirk and chucked slightly at her comment like yeah, yeah, whatever. She then back away from the girl again and took out her wand and said, "glacius", conentrating on sending an ice block at the girl at about medium stregnth sonce the girl was just learning and she was certain this girl could handle a little thing a bit too easilly. The medium sized ice block came from her wand and headed right for the young girl.

Alex couldn't believe the girl chuckled at her. huffing angrily as the ice block headed toward her she quickly casted, "Revertoscutum!" the shield was blueish green and thanks to her focusing she put her shield at medium power. The ice block hit the shield harder then she thought but focused more power into it. she found herself losing ground and just as she fell she managed to stop it. She stood up with a grin, "Wicked!" she annouced loudly. "Your turn again." she added

Adelyn looked around the room after the Professor was finished speaking. She had been doing an excellent job practicing on her own, but she really wanted to try it out with a partner. Many people already seemed to have partnered up; she hoped there was someone still without a partner so they could work together.

Renée was is the DADA room still. Partnering up was hard for Renée at home, but at Hogwarts it would be easier! "Hallo Adelyn!Do you wanna be partners?" said Renée. Renée had met Adelyn at the griffidor common room and she was determind to make friends.

Grayson had cast the spell a few more times, mostly to see if it still had the weird purplish cast to it instead of the blue-green of the professor's. But it did. Wondering if it had anything to do with her earlier thoughts about how she wished it could be raspberry, she let her wand hand drop to her side as the professor had spoken again. At least he didn't seem to think her shield was wrong, since he didn't say anything to her. Maybe the purple-y-ness was okay. And then he was saying they could partner up and practice with other charms as well, to see how the shield worked. Smile creeping on her face at the idea, she started looking around. People were pairing up around her, and that was interesting, but not enough to make her wish she could just watch. She wanted to cast.

In her turning, she saw a boy just sending ice out into nowhere. Not at anyone else, just away from him, and her interest was piqued. Walking over, she stopped by him to see him frowning. "Casting spells at nobody isn't that much fun. Not when the spell is supposed to be for testing other spells," she observed with a mischievous grin. He looked older than her, not by much but older. That wasn't going to stop her though. it never did, not when she was on a mission to do something fun. And she wanted to see something revert because of her weird purpley-blue shield.

Justin finished writing everything down that he had just heard and saw a girl on her own. She looked about his age so he went over to her. "Hey. Wnna work together?" he asked. He had no one to work with and niehter did she so there shouldn't have been a problem.

Selena looked up and saw a boy. He didn't look much older than her. Perhaps... a few months? A year? Selena offered him a smile. "Yeah, I'd like that," Selena said. "I'm Selena, first year," Selena said as she held out a hand for him to shake. He was a Slytherin as well, so it appeared. That's what it said on his robes.

William was quite perplexed; even though he knew he could just walk up to some random person and ask, he didn't not when he saw everyone pairing up around them. It was then he knew he was a loner. Yup, great strong William Cullack was a nobody. Wait, no he wasn't, he was strong, he was courageous, he was...hyper! His frown remained as he looked down at his wand before hearing a voice. Looking up he linked rapidly, as if not expecting anyone to speak to him since he was lost in his own little world like normal. "Well it's quite fun though; you never know when someone might walk into the spell and boom." he replied, a slight smirk on his face.

The girl appeared to be a bit younger than him, though not by much. This should be an interesting match up he thought, having seen her perform the shield spell beforehand. It wasn't the same color as his; his was more blue than anything and he hoped it was right but he thought it would be fun to have some, well fun. "I'm William, think I've seen you around before." he introduced himself. May as well tell her his name before he cast at her he mused.

Justin returned the smile. "Nice to meet you Selena. I'm Justin" he replied. She seemed sweet, too young for him to date though. What a total downer! He shook Selena's hand still smiling at her. This year was going to be interesting. A lot of the pretty girl's were in his house. "One question, what's the spell we're actually supposed to be learning, I lost track, there were too many spells being shouted out for me to keep up" he asked.

Selena thought about it. "Well, we're working on the revertoscutum," Selena said. At least she hoped so. "We're going to practice with someone actually casting a spell at us, but the only spells we're allowed to use it Orchideous, Incarcerous, Papilio, Glacius or Avis," Selena said. At least that was what she had written. He didn't seem mean or anything. Not like most of the other Slytherins. They were a bit snobby... well... just some.

Justin took a deep breath. Selena seemed too kind to cast an offensive spell at. "Ok so you cast an offensive spell at me first. I don't wanna hurt you at all" he said getting ready to cast the defensive spell.

"Thanks," Elvedina said. "Alright, I'll try again." She smiled. "And this time I wont duck." She held her wand out and prepared for whatever Jack was going to throw at her. You can do this, she told herself. What's the point in learning a spell if you can't use it in actual combat? Now focus. She focused all her concentration on producing a blue shield. She kept one eye on Jack, waiting for his spell and the rest of her concentration was on forcing a shield out of the vine wood wand in her hand. "Whenever you're ready," she told Jack.
