This bubble may allow the caster to breathe underwater or protect their head from falling objects." she explained, smiling.
Simon put his hand up. "The charm acts like a mask so you can breath underwater and like a scubber diver has his oxygen tank that only hold so much oxygen, the charm only last so long."
Selena raised her hand before answering. Every so silently Patroclus laughed to himself, the use of the Bubblehead chamr would have been wise the other day at the Lake, when he had almost drowned himself. With that in mind Professor Carlton had very much peaked his interest, this lesson is going to me good, he decided. "Professor, the bubblehead charm, generates a pocket of breathable air that hugs the face of the caster, also acting as a breathing mask of sorts. However I have often wondered, how does the spell convert the Carbon Dioxide we breath out, into Oxygen that we are able to breath in?"
He hoped his question was a sidetracking tangent, but he was highly interested in the logistics, as swim was a major part of his life.
Willow raised her hand once more "It acts like a muggle breathing apparatus. The spell casts a bubble around your nose and mouth allowing you to breath under water."

"What can you tell me about this charm? Most of you are probably familiar with what it is and what it looks like, but...what else can you tell me?"
Noir raised her hand "The bubble-head charm puts a large bubble of air around the head of the user and it used as a magical equivalent of a breathing set.." she said
Hermione raised her hand. "The bubble-head charm is a charm that acts as a breathing helmet. It gives the person who produces the charm a circle of oxygen that allows them to breathe underwater" said Hermione.
"The charm stops water from entering the lungs, therefore prevents drowning while supplying the user with oxygen. The charm can also provide protection against falling objects or thrown objects aimed at the head." Alex recalled while raising his hand. Hopefully he had given the correct answer.
"I do know that it's the most effective spell for breathing underwater. It's like a helmet and not only can it serve for people to breathe underwater but it can also protect the head from falling objects.." Dianna said while raising her hand.
Kate raised her hand to answer "Professor, this charm allows a fittable bubble to enclose around someone's head so that they are able to breathe under water's surface or to prevent breathing of outside forces. But I have the same doubt as Patroclus, what happens if the oxygen goes out? The bubble has a "useful life"? " That was a question that pullulated in her head since the first time Kate heard about this charm...

Well everyone kind of said what the function was of the bubble head charm, Celandine had another answer in mind though so she raised her hand. "It looks kind of funny, its not like, the prettiest charm." Aesthetics were totally important. "Could you like, change the colour of the bubble to make it match your bikini, professor?"
Priorities, see?

"Staying dry would definitely help, as a person is able to move around faster when the weight of the water isn't tying them down," she agreed. "Good answer."

Fallon grinned at Professor Carlton. Charms was by far her favorite class and she loved participating in it.
Fallon thought about it for a moment. That's not very hard at all. She raised her hand once more. "Well, it forms a pocket of air so that you can breathe underwater. It would be really helpful if you had to stay underwater for long periods of time." It was a simple answer, but it was still an answer.
Since most, if not all, the class had already answered, Ellie remained quiet. She'd need to b faster here, it seemed. So she leaned back in her chair, and twirled her deep red hair around her index finger. She'd answer the next question. Yup. That one was SO hers.

Oooh, and another question. What ELSE did she know about the Bubble-Head charm? WTH?! Oh noes, did that mean they were actually going to go underwater in this lesson? Hopefully it wouldn't be all creepily dark and just...Shudder."Well, it's the most effective spell for breathing underwater?" Nancy more guessed that knew as she raised her hand to answer the question.
"Mmhmm, that's a good one to add to the list already on the board," Lexi said. She charmed the chalk to add just one more charm to the long list of the charms they'd already named. "I'm not sure it's the most effective, but it's one of the most. Don't forget that there are transfiguring spells that can give us the gills of a fish or...anything of that sort. Those spells are highly effective, too."

"That's right. It's just as the name suggests---a charm that creates a bubble over our head," she agreed.

Lexi nodded her head. "The charm proved itself to be highly useful in the Triward Tournament. ...as did other spells, such as Mr. Krum's partial transfiguration, she said.

Buuut, thinking over what the Professor said about using caution with the drought charm, Evelyn decided that she was probably right. Harm animals. Professor Morgan...Lawson... would probably hunt her down if she hurt and animal. Don't want that!
"My point exactly," she agreed. "The charm does much more than just help us breath. It helps us to block out harmful objects or smells, as Mr. Smith told us, and, yes, it can definitely protect us from falling objects."

So, if Marilyn could produce the bubblehead charm strong enough on herself, that nasty poisonous/toxic odor could be released in the dorm and she wouldn't personally be effected...
With a certain look in her eye, Lexi nodded her head. "It's definitely a gas mask, and as a matter of fact, this is the charm I used in the corridors just the other week when...one of you," she said, her eyes scanning the room for the girl she'd given a detention to, "released a series of dungbombs on the third floor."

"The charm acts like...a scuba mask, but it covers more of your head and allows you to breath underwater or wherever there is a lack of fresh air. So if you were in a smoke filled room it would work just as well as if you were unfer water." Hmm. That gave her ideas.
"Scuba mask, yes. That's another good way to refer to the Bubble-head Charm," Lexi agreed. "...and another good idea on how the charm can be used outside the water."

Lexi paused in her tracks as she heard a rather interesting question from one of her Gryffindor students. "Actually, I believe that's one of the main reasons the charm was designed to wear away after a while. It's true that it does help us breath, but in the end, it's not the same as the way we naturally breathe," she answered. "The charm replaces our natural way of breathing, and then when it can no longer do that, it wears off. Good question."

Referring back to the answer she'd give Patroclus, Lexi said, "Remember that the charm is only temporary, which means that magic, rather than our normal way of breathing, is at work when the charm is in place. When the charm can no longer help us breathe the way we were meant to, it ends, and we have to resume a natural means of breathing at that point." She thought a little longer then added, "You can always cast it again, but I'd wait for at least a minute, if you have it to spare."

Lexi smiled and laughed a little as Celandine suggested coordinating colors. It reminded the professor of something she would have thought it back in her seventh year. Or, come to think of it, she'd likely come up with something similar now-a-days, too.
"No, it's not the prettiest charm, but sometimes effectiveness comes at a cost," she replied. "...and if you have time and aren't in danger, then yes, color coordinating would be nice."

Lexi glanced over at Ellie. It seemed like she had something to say, but...in the end, the girl never did speak up. The professor glanced around the class, waiting to see if someone else had anything to say. When it didn't look like they did, Lexi moved on.
"We're going to start by practicing the incantation and wand movement for the charm," she told the class. To demonstrate, Lexi raised her wand and pointed it toward her face. "Viseo Ebullio," she said. As she spoke the incantation, her wand traveled in a counter-clockwise motion around the area she wanted the bubble to form in. Pretty soon, she was standing in front of the class with a fully formed bubble around her face.
She pointed her wand toward her face once again and said, "Finite." The bubble burst, and Lexi's face was once again back to its normal appearance.
"Now as you just saw, the charm can be ended by pointing your wand toward your face and using Finite. That's if, of course, you want to end the charm before it wears off," she said. "It's hard to say just how long this charm will stay in place on its own. It depends on the person casting it and their ability to use magic. If you're older and have been studying magic for a while, the charm will stay in place longer. If you haven't been studying magic long at all, your charm will likely disappear a lot sooner."
"You'll know when the charm is starting to wear off when you feel the bubble growing smaller and smaller. At that point, you need to get to safety---whether it be the surface of water or some area that's not polluted with...horrible smells," she continued. "Go ahead and take some time to practice the charm now. Practice it a few times and try ending it yourself and letting it wear off on its own."
OOC: You may go ahead and roleplay your character practicing the charm and trying to get it down pat. I'll leave this open for a while to allow as many people as possible a chance to play. I'm also not entirely sure if a person can talk while the charm is in place, but so we won't have to have a silent lesson with no talking (lol), I'll just teach the lesson as if talking is still an option.
Please remember that this is a more advanced charm, so it's likely it'll take a few tries (if not more) to get it right. During the Triwizard Tournament, Harry himself knew so little about the charm that he had to rely on Dobby (in the book) and Neville (in the film) to help him come up with a way to stay underwater long enough to complete the task.

Alexandrie wrote down how to cast the spell and the wand movement for it. She took out her wand from behind her ear to try and practice it, wand movement first then the incantation and then trying the spell together. She moved her wand into a counter clockwise motion so she would get use to the way it was moving. After a few moments of this she practiced saying the incantation, "Viseo Ebullio." repeatedly, "Viseo Ebullio, Viseo Ebullio, Viseo Ebullio." Until she could say it without getting tongue tied.
Alex consulted her notes to make sure she didn't mess it up, she wouldn't want to accidentally do something that injured herself or others after all.

Alexandrie Malfoy-Lupin's Charms Notes
Charms Class Lesson Two: Bubble-Head Charm
Incantation: Viseo Ebullio
Wand Motion: Counter Clockwise around the place you're protecting.
What it does: Gives the caster clean air, doesn't matter if in land or air. It will cause a bubble shape to appear over the caster's head or nose and mouth. It will shrink after sometime when wearing off, this depends on how old the caster is and how well the caster is with magic.
Alex decided to try it out now, "Viseo Ebullio." She chanted moving her wand around her head in a counter clockwise motion unsurpsingly it didn't work, she would try again.
Aidella | King of Confusion | Brittana | Forever ACROMANTULA
Aiden watched attentively as Professor Carlton performed the incantation with ease and then proceeded to pop the bubble around her head just seconds after it had appeared. When she urged the students to try it themselves, he pulled his wand out from his pocket and pointed the tip of it at his face before moving it in a counter-clockwise rotation. "Viseo Ebullio," he said, but a small bubble just seemed to sprout from the wand and pop right away. Ehh, okay. He'd keep practicing.

Carter pointed his wand at his face and said "Viseo Ebullio" while making a counter-clockwise circle. ....And he successfully created a spit bubble. Before he even had a chance to cancel the charm the bubble popped. And the popping bubble tickled his face!
After taking a few seconds to calm himself he tried again. "Viseo Ebullio" he said a little more confidently. He drew another counter-clockwise circle with his wand pointed at his face. Now it looked like a little blowing bubble. Well, that was a bit of an improvement. "Finite!" he said pointing his wand back at his face. Yes, he popped the bubble before it had a chance to pop all by itself.

Well that was a tongue twister if she ever heard one.
Writing down what she thought was important about the charm, (which was pretty much everything that had been said) Ivory looked down in scrutiny at the incantation and practiced saying it sloooowly.
"Vi-se-o E-bu-llio? Vi-SE-o E-Bul-LIO? Vi-se-O Eb-U-LLio?" Blowing the bangs out of her eyes with one quick exhale, she tried again. " Vi-sE-O E-bU-llio."
It took her quite a while until she found the proper way to enunciate the words without sounding like an idiot and even longer for them to finally flow them together so that they sound incantation-y. Eventually it was time to practice the wand movement.
Digging into her robes for her wand she knew exactly when she'd come in contact with it not just because well she felt the wood in her hand but because of the familiar warmth that spread through her arm in a light wave. A warmth that pinpointed in her hand and then gave way to an ever present blue flame at the tip of her wand. A blue flame that never failed to comfort her and calm her nerves.
Breathing deeply, she tried it out. Counterclock wise turn around head. Voila. And once more, and one more time.
Hmm. Well there wasn't really a trick to the turn.
Deciding it was time to bring it all together, she tried the spell for the first time. "Viseo Ebullio" At first her eyes widened as a tiny stream of something circled her head, but sadly it was a victory shortlived because as soon as she moved her wand away from her face so was the outline removed.
A giant sigh escaped her lips. She'd known she wouldn't get it on her first try but it still hurt. Shaking her head and popping a few fingers in preparation, she tried again...and again...and again...
"That's right, but at the same, remember what I said. It's a temporary charm, so just be sure to pace yourself and know when it'll come to an end," she replied.
"Go ahead and take some time to practice the charm now. Practice it a few times and try ending it yourself and letting it wear off on its own."
Fallon nodded her head as she scrawled down notes from the replys Professor Carlton was giving to answers. Then she started to explain the charm and Fallon made sure that her notes covered everything that they Professor had said.
Finally, it was time to try and perform the charm. This was always Fallon's favorite part of Charms class. She first thought that she should try getting the incantation right. She looked at what she had written down and started to say it the Professor Carlton had. "Vi-seo Ebu-llio." She said it a few more times for good measure.
Once she thought that she had the pronunciation right, she pulled out her wand to actually practice it. Fallon decided to get right down to business and pointed the wand at herself. "Viseo Ebullio," she said as she imitated the wand movement the Professor Carlton had used. Her wand made a little spark, but nothing else.
She had heard this spell was complicated, so she didn't put herself down for not getting it the first time. Fallon decided to try again. This time a little bubble formed that disappeared almost immediately. She looked around the room to see if anyone else was getting it. Everyone so far seemed to be having the same problems, which made Fallon feel a little better about herself. Now she was determined to do this.
Fallon kept trying again and again. After what seemed about the hundreth time, a bubble formed on Fallon's face and it lasted for about 2 minutes. She grinned at her accomplishment and decided she was going to keep trying until it lasted longer.
[COLOR="Black"]"We're going to start by practicing the incantation and wand movement for the charm," she told the class. To demonstrate, Lexi raised her wand and pointed it toward her face. Arya scribbled down all important information as the conversation between the professor and students went on, glancing up and sparing the woman a smile when her answer was acknowledged. She quickly jotted down the information about the spell and exchanged her quill for her wand as she watchd the professor preform the charm.
Pointing her wand at her face she repeatedly practiced the wand movements. "We are soo gonna use this..." She repeated the motions again as she mumbled absently to Ivory. "...next time we go swiming." This was one of the charms she had been dying to learn, there were things she wanted to see in the bottom of that lake.
She practiced the wand movements again before working on the incantation. "Viseo Ebullio.....viiiiseo ebulliiiio.......viseooooo ebullioooo..." She went on and on with this until she had gotten all tounge tied. Twirling her wand and staring at her spider (yes, it was hers now) she pointed the wand at her face.
Moving her wand counter-clockwise around her face, she said. "Viseo Ebullio." Her face tingled, but nothing appeared. Unphased by the fact that nothing had happened, she continued to practice.

And so on and so forth. Christopher James repeated the incantation like a litany for a good amount of time. The time sufficient enough for him to stop stumbling over the words. To stop Vise-io rather than Viseo. The Ebullio wasn't that hard-it reminded him of bouillon and no stew was good without a strong bouillon cube.
The wand motion wasn't all that difficult either. It was a counter clockwise turn around his general face.
What was hard though was doing it all right.
"Viseo Ebullio." Tiiiiny little miniature bubble.
"Viseo Ebullio." Slightly bigger bubble.
"Viseo Ebullio." Finally a bubble that covered his face...only to disappointedly burst right after.
After more tries than he was willing to admit, eventually the bubble would stay up for more than a few minutes and eventually quite a while. Satisfied he popped each one triumphantly.
Jackie listens as Professor Carlton explains the charm. She twirls her wand around her face in a counterclockwise direction and says "Viseo Ebullio" Nothing happens she grunts in frustration. She twirls her wand again and says "Viseo Ebullio" A small bubble appears and disappears. Argh" she says.
