Iris listened to the professor introduce her self and tell the class about herself.
Hmm. How did Magic make everyday life easier?
Listening to the other people who raised their hands, Iris too raised hers, "Well... the magic I know has helped me out in classes, A lot. That's a really important point. We'd all fail school completely if we weren't able to learn the magic we've learnt whilst here." That's the most obvious point, right? Magic helps wizarding kids to LEARN! And learning was important, "And magic helps you keep the house tidy. Or in my case, my room." Also very true. Iris' room seemed to be very difficult to keep clean and tidy without magic. "Hmm.... Also, I've used the spells that I've learned to cheer other people up. Like, my mum was going through some bad stuff, so I used the flower-conjouring spell that I'd learned last term to make some flowers to give to her, to make her feel better." Iris smiled at Professor Carlton to indicate that she'd finished.
Okay, so maybe some people might not have thought that these were 'simple'... but they'd made HER life easier, so it didn't really matter.

Phyre nodded, smiling as the professor introduced herself and began the lesson. Raising her hand slowly, she answered. "Well, Professor, I use magic a lot to get around.... because I'm blind. It's not really simple, since I had to be taught wandless magic to do it, but it's what helps me get by without a guide. It's useful for long-distance travel and cleaning and cooking, also. Anything, really, that's a small task. Or some that are big... I use it a lot in healing, also, since I'm a bit accident prone."

Magic making life easy? Evan had to pause for a moment to think. There were many ways magic was useful? Which one would they list? Raising his hand, he thought one last second, and gave his answer. "It is used for cleansing, very effectively. And to speed things up, like straightening up a room, or packing a luggage. It basically helps us with order and cleaning." Right?

Her gaze finally returned to Professor Carlton when the woman gave her first day speech. Most of the information she already knew and then some from her visit to her office, but she still listened anyway, respect and what not.
Taking a moment to think about the question, she raised her hand. "Using magic to clean makes my life easier." Though her mother didn't approve of it. Something about making her lazy and needing to do hardwork.

Trixie raised her hand to answer the question. "For me my life has been made so much simpler with magic. Having grown up with magic all my life, my parents have used it to complete every day tasks. For example cleaning and cooking. Although this could be completed manually, magic makes it so more efficient and less time consuming, giving you more time to do things more important" like shopping she added in her thoughts. "To be honest, I don't think a lot of modern wizarding families these days would be able to survive without magic. We become reliant on it to help us complete the most simplest of things in the household" she said grinning. Blimey she was creating a debate here. "But yes, chores are much easier and of course commuting is made so much more efficient" she replied.

HA!
The Professor had remembered Destiny. Annnd she remembered those Ravenclaw robes. The ones her grandmother tried to buy for her. Should she tell the Professor that her blue robes were home, like she really had them? Nah. Didn't want to bore her and stuff.
Nodding at Evelyn, she gestured for her to sit down next to her. Marie..well she got a nod and a shrug. Did she really need a reason to sit up in the front? Destiny thinks not, pffft.
Ooo, a question! "How about when someone is bothering you? I know how to shut them up now." she said raising her hand.
That might now be the correct answer the Professor was looking for, but the langlock spell did help Destiny, it did.

| Raspberry Jam | #ChocolateFrogFamous | Ultimate Fangirl Ella smiled at the Professor then stopped to think about the question. Magic helped with.. everything really. She raised her hand. "Magic helps make my life easier everyday. Cleaning my room takes like.. 2 minutes. And any other chores are made a lot easier." Provided she actually does the magic properly. "It's a lot of fun too. It cures my bordom within seconds." She often caused havoc with her magic, but she did like to experiment with it a lot. Learning new things was always fun. "Magic is just.. great." Ella tried to think of something else that magic became useful for, but so far in her life it seemed that making her lazy was the only thing. Not really the purpose for magic but oh well.

If you haven't already roleplayed your character coming in, please just roleplay as if he or she has been here all along. Thanks!
Once the door was closed and everyone seemed to be in class...no one would be tardy on her very first lesson, would they?...Lexi returned to the front of the classroom and sat on the edge of her desk as she spoke to the class. "Lots of you seemed to have already been told my name, but for those of you who don't quite know me yet, I'm Professor Lexi Carlton," she began. Hmm...now that had been the little icebreaker, the line Lexi sort of felt she had to say so that the children wouldn't be sitting in class wondering who in Merlin's name was teaching them. "Before I moved back to Great Britain, I lived in America..., and if there's one thing that stood out to me about the area I lived in, it was the fact that...well, not very many witches and wizards live there. Not as many as there are here in Great Britain, at least," she explained. "Things in America were sometimes a little difficult for my sister and I, because we were used to magic, and there weren't very many opportunities to use magic in America. At least, not for us."
She pushed herself off the desktop and walked around the room a little. "I want you to think about the magic you know of and the magic you've been taught. What are some of the ways that magic helps us in our normal, everyday life? Simple things, I mean. How has magic helped you make things in your life easier?" she asked. "Go ahead and raise your hand then share your thoughts with us." Melissa nodded and smiled at Professor Carlton when she sat down.
Melissa listened carefully to her story and then thought for a minute before raising her hand. "Well, it helps a lot as in doing practical stuff like cleaning, getting objects, fixing things, like that in a short amount of time," she nodded, finishing her answer. She didn't experience these things before because she was a muggle born so she didn't grow up with it.

As the students discussed ideas on how magic is helpful with common, everyday tasks, Lexi raised her wand into the air, did a little swishing and flicking, then charmed a piece of chalk to write for her. - Summoning objects (accio)
- Cleaning/household chores/repairs
- Levitating/carrying objects
- Personal hygiene/healing
- Cooking (Lexi placed a little star next to this one)
- Light (lumos)
- Relationships (cheering others)
- Helps the visually impaired
- Long-distance travel (Apparition) and packing luggage
Lexi paused for just a moment when she heard one of the students mention being blind. Wow, she hadn't even realized one of them couldn't see at all. Still surprised, Lexi sort of blinked a few times then slowly smiled at the girl. Lexi continued jotting down notes as all the suggestions kept coming in. One of the suggestions, in particular, caught her attention. It was the one regarding keeping someone quiet when they are bothering you. Lexi sort of gave Destiny a half-glare, half-amused smile, though. Why, just the other day, even Lexi had considered langlock on that Ravenclaw child stuck in the swamp on the fifth floor. Could she really blame young Destiny for thinking along the same lines? Nevertheless, Lexi didn't jot that one down on the chalkboard. It was just one of those...things to keep in mind. "...lots of good ideas. House points to everyone who shared an idea! You'll want to make note of these, because you'll likely need them for your homework assignment," she said. She lowered the chalk and dropped her wand, but she left the list on the board for the students to copy. "If you can think of something else that we don't have listed, go ahead and add it when you copy the list." Lexi pushed herself back up on the edge of the desk and looked out at the class. "Let's focus on cooking for now, though. What are your ideas on how magic can help us when we're cooking...or just in the kitchen?" she asked.

Simon looked at the Professor and raised his hand. "Well we won't have to peel the potato's and things like that, so it will save us time." Simon wasn't sure he was right. "Plus if you have guests you can leave the charm to cook the food and go and entertain you friend..." Simon suddenly stopped and quickly lowered into his chair, he was sure he was wrong and didn't want everyone to laugh at him.

Grayson had been listening to all the ways the other students were saying magic made their lives easier. She hadn't added any mostly because she used magic at home only in her lessons with her uncle and occasionally to annoy her little brother. But at least she could answer this question. Raising her hand, she spoke. "Well, magic can help us with stirring. Mixing, that type of stuff. Sometimes you have to keep things moving, and your arm would hurt really bad if you had to do that without magic."

"Well, you could use charms to wash dishes without having to occupy yourself with then," she said. "And then if you needed to flip or stir something, you could use magic for that, too. And if you need fire, there's always fire-creating spells like Lacarnum Inflamarae. You could stack and put away dishes, or set a table with levitation, also. Magic's especially useful in cooking, I think."

This was exactly why she had been nervous about coming to charms, she had always been awful at household chores. She had always trusted that her ability to make a sandwich would keep her from starving... and as for cleaning and such... well she could do with out it. Perhaps though magic could help her to improve these skills, but the questions was... did she want to improve them? She decided to answer the question and raised her hand. "I mean it can make it easier right?" She asked. "It can help you with like stirring or something so you can go do something else while that's going on." She hoped she was right, she knew she would look like and idiot when they started so she didn't want to sound like an idiot as well. |

Trixie quickly wrote down her notes as she copied it down from he board using her pheonix feather quill. She raised her hadn. "Please Miss. Well obviously food cannot just simply be made and summoned with magic. It certainly cannot be made out of nothing You have to have a solid object on you" she replied with a sweet smile. "But magic can be used as a tool to help prepare the food" she told the proffessor. "For example your wand can be used to stir up, lets say a soup" she said using examples. "It's not creating the actual food for you but it is an aid to creating the perfect dish" she smiled. "The wand can also be used to pour out sauces and of course finish with the dirty work of cleaning out the pans afterwards" she giggled.

She nodded, she couldn't think of anything though so she just copied down what was there. She raised her hand. That was an easy question. "Safety, if there was a small fire magic could put it out easily and as muggles use electric appliances, we use magic we have much more space instead of wires everywhere," she had not seen any wires anywhere in Hogwarts or the Wizarding world and she didn't think she will ever do. She never saw them use electric too.

Destiny was right.
Her answer was not the one the Professor was looking for. Writing down the other things people said, she wrote down her own answer and maybe but a few stars next to it. In her opinion, that was the most important. It should have been at the TOP of the list.
Moving on to cooking! Destiny sure did like to cook! Unless it was with Professor Lawsonator in the Muggle Studies club. Then it was not fun. "How about if someone is choking!?" she asked with a raised hand. "We could use magic to help them get the food out of their THROAT!"

| Jimbo will set his turtle loose on you. { The Farley } "That's trademarked, don't use it." Jimbo copied down what was on the chalkboard into his notebook that he used for every class. He got a couple extra things down that he hadn't mentioned when he raised his hand. Things like, "Helps with pranking people." Stuff along those lines. *smirk*
...Hmm. "I suppose it could help you to heat up the food quicker. Or set the table...though that's not really cooking. You could chop up food quickly and do multiple things at once to get the cooking moving faster."
Though he really couldn't say much as he knew next to nothing about cooking. He didn't cook. He ate what others cooked. That was his purpose in life.

Scribbling down everything that was written on the board she took in the scents that filled the room. She knew she should have eaten before coming to class, all the smells were distracting.
They didn't really use magic for cooking in her home, but since she had spent part of her summer at Ivory's house she had seen some magic used with cooking.
Putting her quill down, she raised her hand again. "You can use magic to do tedious things like stirring the food or, chopping and stuff."

| Jack raised his hand and said," You can use magic to stir the food, to chop up the food, to cook and heat the food, and to clean the dishes afterwards". |

Selena copied down the notes then looked up. She raised her hand before replying to the question. "Well, while cooking with magic, it would be easier because you could manage more than one thing at a time as well as clean everything a lot quicker," Selena said she was pretty sure her answer was good, "with the aid of magic, cooking would be more efficient and organized because when you're unable to find something, you can use magic to help as well. Magic is also uselful in the kitchen because it helps you manage things easily and isn't as time consuming if you use the right spells and charms," Selena said as she looked at the professor. She really hoped the answer was good enough. |

| Atypical Ravenclaw Bookworm // Hair Flipper Pro / / the edgy starbuckian // Hot Messie Mina busied herself with taking as many notes as possible. If it was going to be on the homework, she needed to know everything. Raising her hand, she volunteered an answer as well. "You can use magic to allow your hand to be free. you would be able to multi-task and get a lot done in a shorter amount of time. With the use of magic, you could really get a lot more accomplished. Your prep work for cooking wouldn't necessary need to be done way before when you use magic." She was rather repetitive with her answer, she knew it. But the plain and simple of it was it just made things easier for the cook. Prep, cooking, and cleaning could be done pretty much simultaneous with the use of charms and what not. |

Charms, his favorite subject, not to mention his best. He felt as though it was being dwindled down to things of insignificance besides the fact that all these household chores could be done much more easily with charms. But still, out of all the subjects, this one he was itching to learn the most. All he could think about was the new spells he would learn.
Santi listened to all the answers as students put their hands up one by one. Frustrated that all the answers were extremely similar he decided to raise his hand to give a different answer. "Charms allow you to cook a dinner and clean it up without having to get up. You just have to get everything going with a few flicks and let it fly. Of course, check on it every now and then to make sure you don't burn down the house," he ended with a smile.
