Then go back and add up the final reduced digits to get your final number. The more work you show, the less chance of making a mistake. Plus, I can give partial credit if you show your work, whereas if you don't, then I cannot give you any credit."[/B] She paused letting this all sink in, as she glanced at her watch.
"Time is nearly out for the lesson, please spend the next ten minutes finalizing your calculations. I will hand out the homework at the end. If you have any questions, please ask myself or someone who's figured it out already."[/COLOR]

Hoping he did it right, he looked up at the girl and said, "Both your numbers are nine..." Well, now that they had this information, what were they supposed to do?
He flipped through his textbook to try and find the meaning of the number nine. He found;
What? He kept looking. Surely, he could find something with more detail? Aha! Perfect.
He turned the textbook towards the girl and pointed at the right parts of the pages. "Do those sound right?"
Well, as long as he knew where to look he might as well see what the textbook said about his OWN numbers. She said they were...4 and 3. Right.
Uhm. Okay. Well, the first one sounded completely wrong. The second one was closer to being right. But then again, what would he know about the future? Shaking his head at the textbook, Jimbo again decided that he really didn't like Arithmancy. The numbers made no sense sometimes. And just when he was starting to feel a little proud of himself that he'd figured it all out...
But then, when he looked at the textbook again, he saw something that confused him a little. He raised his hand and made sure he spoke loud enough for the professor to hear. "Professor, what does the textbook mean when it mentions numbers eleven, twenty-two and twenty-three? I thought we were supposed to reduce."
Alcemee replied, "They seem partly incorrect, but they're mostly right. Do your numbers's descriptions seem right?"
Cadence smiled brightly at Simon and patted him on the back. "That's right, Simon! So your Life Path Number is 5!" she said, feeling very proud of him. Now, though, she had to attempt to explain to him how they did this. If she could do that, then she most definitely needed to go into teaching because this was going to be hard to put into words. Taking a deep breath, she opened her textbook to use it for support. "Right, so, what this is is what the book calls the addition method of reducing. So, normally we would read this number as two thousand sixty, right? But in the study of Arithmancy, we look at this number as a combination of each individual digit. So, we have to look at it as 2+0+6+0. Does that make sense?" she asked, hoping she was explaining this okay.
Simon looked at Cadence. "Oh cool." Simon smiled. "I think I get it now." Simon wasn't sure but he thought he got what she was saying. "I think Arithmancy is hard." Simon sighed. "I'll never be able to get this." Simon was scared that Cadence thought he was stupid not being able to do something she thought was so simple.

Cadence smiled at him and gave him a little squeeze. "Simon, you'll get it! I know you will! You've improved loads in just the little bit of time I've been sitting here. Besides, this is your first year, and everyone is good at different things. Arithmancy just may not be the subject for you, but you know what? I'm awful at Care of Magical Creatures," she said this last part quietly, giving him a little smile. "Everyone has their strengths. Tell you what, since class is going to end soon, how about I help you with your Destiny Number in the Common Room later, yeah?" she asked cheerily.

As Tori still needed a partner, she stood in the corner, waiting.
Reed walked up to the nice girl who didn't have a partner. "Hey..I don't have a partner either. My boyfriend was supposed to be my partner, but he was a no-show." It hurt Reed to say the term "boyfriend".."Anyways, do you want to work together?" she asked, putting on her nicest smile.
Cadence smiled at him and gave him a little squeeze. "Simon, you'll get it! I know you will! You've improved loads in just the little bit of time I've been sitting here. "Great, nice job," she said smiling. "You've done it. Wasn't too hard, was it?"
"Erm... I guess not" Rae said untruthfully. She couldn't see herself doing well in this class at all... "So er... If i tell you my whole name you're not to repeat it right?" Rae was already hating this and she didn't even say her first name yet..

EIGHT (8): Your path will lead you to work out the difference between money and the real value of life. You must learn what to do with your natural power and authority, but this is not an easy path. Once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - being in charge. You're a born boss and your natural power and authority cause others to look to you when a decision needs to be made. The reward or you won't necessarily be financial but may come in terms of accomplishment and legacy. Career/vocation options include any field where you can be in charge and where you can utilize your superior skill of good judgment.
THREE (3): Your mission in life is to invigorate and empower. Your purpose is to encourage others through your hopefulness and conviction, using your inspirational creativity to make certain that others experience joy. Learning to express your emotions though your gift with words and being effervescent and clever will bring you closer to your destiny. You're destined for self-expression. Speak up, be positive, and encourage.
Looking back up to Leilani and smiled. "Well it looks like, your life path number is 8 and your Destiny is 3," she said with a nod. She hoped she had done them correctly. Flipping to her text, she started to look up the meanings of the numbers.
SEVEN (7): Your path will lead you to study, test, and analyze everything because you can't be satisfied with anything at face value. You'll seek the meaning of existence and will always be exploring mysteries and the unexplainable to find meaning for your life. Once you've learned this lesson, you'll move on to the next phase - sharing your wisdom of the metaphysical with others. You're a born seeker - philosophical, scientific, etc. - and because of your solitary investigation of the unknown, others will seek you out for your wisdom. Career/vocation options include any job that calls for analysis, deductive reasoning, or scientific knowledge, such as teaching, or any field where you'll be allowed to study or contemplate things bigger than you.
FOUR (4): Your mission in life is to build something of lasting value. Your purpose is to be realistic and hard-working, all while keeping order and decorum so that security is assured. Learning to express traditional values and being loyal and constant will move you toward your destiny. You're destined for managing and methodizing. Create the foundation and build on it.
Leilani finished. "Okay so your life path number is seven and your expression number is four." she told Mina.

Alcemee replied, "They seem partly incorrect, but they're mostly right. Do your numbers's descriptions seem right?"
Jimbo had been distracted, looking at the master numbers in the textbook. Looking up, he realized the girl had been talking to him. Hearing her, he grinned. "Barely." He looked around to see if anyone else had finished as well. Were they supposed to calculate their other numbers now? "Professor," he said again. "Are we done or do we do the next ones?"

She smiled down at her work, lifting her hand she said.
"Professor, is this alright?"
Walking by the young Ravenclaw again, Josephina nodded at her recalculations of the life path, but then shook he head about the Destiny number. "Not quite, Isabella dear. You forgot to actually add the final numbers." She commented, taking the quill she kept behind her ear and squatting down by the girl's desk.
"So you got 46 for her first name and 16 for her last name. You then should reduce each name to a single digit, like so":
(4+6) + (1+6)
(10) + (7)
(1) + (7)
8
"Does this make sense as to why her final Expression number is 8, not 6?" She asked the girl, pointing out her handwriting on the Ravenclaw's parchment.

"Good Jasmina. But one thing, though it looks like you did it correctly in your calculations, when recording the numerical equivalent to the letters, you recorded J as a 2." She pointed out, but then gave a subtle smile. "But you still calculated right, so I'm presuming you just copied it wrong but still knew it was a 1."

"Good, good," Fina nodded at Jasmina's partner, but then shook her head, narrowing her eyebrows just a smidgen. "But wait. I could be wrong about this, but I believe there are two 'T's in Jasmina's surname, not one." She shrugged, looking from girl-to-girl. Again, she had no clue, after all it was only from her roster that she even knew their names to begin with.

"Professor, you said that if you have 11 or 22 or 33 it's special, so what if you havn't finished adding and you have an 11, should you reduce it and add, or keep it and add. Like if I had (8+3)+4, that would be 11+4. So should I break it up to 2+4 or keep it as 11+4? Am I making any sense at all?" Ellie was never too good at explaining things...
Alexandrie decided to help her, "The Teacher wants to people to reduce that number. From what I read 11, 22, and 33's are master Numbers. We'll probably learn more about Master Numbers as the term goes on. and shouldn't you be adding it all together?" Alex asked confused realising the girl still hadn't added a four to the 11..

She sighed, "What I meant to ask the teacher was am I adding the four to eleven or the four to two plus two?" she said this with strained politeness. There was a reason she was asking the teacher, and not some silly, mean first year.

Abby raised her eyebrows in surprise. This girl had seemed so adamant before about not revealing her name. As soon as she asked her if she would repeat it, Abby was a bit taken aback. And immediately a bunch of thoughts ran through her mind. What was it about her name that this girl didn't want anyone to know about?
Well, Abby supposed that if she were to conceal her name, it would be because she absolutely HATED it. It could have been something as simple as that for Rae too. Then again, she could be a covert double agent under strict orders not to give out her name. Ehhhh. Maybe not so much the second option. Heh.
She masked her strange thoughts with a pleasant smile as she nodded in agreement. "I won't tell anyone your name if you don't want me to," she said seriously. After all, it wasn't her name to tell. "You can whisper it in my ear if you want. And I'll cover my paper as I work. And afterwards, I'll burn it or something." Hahaha. Abby wondered if Rae wanted her to actually go that far.

Alex thought about it, "I"m not mean or silly. And your supposed to reduce your number completely if 11 and four are apart of finding out whichever your still figuring out then i'll guess you're supposed to take 11 and add the four making it 15 and then adding that making it 6. if you do it the way you think of it then it'll be ..wait how would you be getting two from four? but if you added the 11 together then it'll be 2..hmm..6 still..It doesn't matter." she realised either way you added those numbers you'll get 6. fasicnating she thought.

Woah...
"I never called you silly or mean."out load Ellie thought. Then she started freakin that this girl might read minds. But she knew occlumency. So she was safe.
Then she thought about it.... "Oh, that's true...." Maybe that was why they were magic numbers... or whatever they were called. She then tried to think of the same predicament with 22 and 33 in her head. Blah, math.

They were SO not acting out in her lesson. So not bickering in front of others . . . in front of her after she said explicitly before about chatter. After she already docked loads of points for chatting at the start of the lesson. No. They weren't.
Close eyes. And open.
And they were still going.
"Silence," Josephina said, through gritted teeth at the two first years. See; this was why Arithmancy was originally taught to only those older than third. Deep breath and then . . . "Five points from each of you for nonsensical bickering and detention for you both. Together." And maybe, perhaps, she could teach them a thing or two about getting along civilly.

Now. Onto more important things, like TEACHING the lesson.
"Now Miss Stone, you asked a question about 11, 22, and 33. If you have one of these numbers in one part of your name, then this doesn't count as a master number. It only counts when you add up all the reduced components - whether it be first, middle, and last name or each number from your birthdate - and it totals 11, 22, 33. It is then, that the final total before reducing is one of these numbers that you have a master number." Josephina explained, hoping it made sense. "Does that help any? Good question though."
Turning to face the whole class, she leaned against the edge of her desk, "Now before I wrap things up, I must conclude by reminding you that calculations are tedious, but I also hope you saw today that it doesn't have to be difficult. The more work you show, the better off you'll be. Make sure if you have any questions at all, then don't hesitate to find me and ask. Once you copy down your homework, you are dismissed." With a flick of her wand, the homework appeared on the board behind her:

Sini was relieved that someone else wasn't too sure about this, looking over Noir's work it looked a little crazy to her, but as she continued to follow how the numbers were created and reduced it looked right to her. "I think that's it, I must admit that numbers aren't my strongest ability either." she said this time excited, "I think following how you did that just helped me a lot!"
Starring down at her own paper she saw Noir's full name a birthday and started counting in her head as she jotted down on her parchment. "Okay, let's see if I can get this right..." she said, as if talking to herself this time and started writing intently on her parchment.
"Okay, I think I got it now!" Sini finally said after a lot of muttering to herself, "Life path number is 4 and your Destiny Number is 2, at least I think it is."
"Well..I think we finally done the calculating..." before Noir finished she heard

Iris quickly wrote down the homework, and then gathered all of her things together, "Thanks for the lesson, Professor!" She said quickly, with a smile before leaving the classroom.
[/B]"]Iris looked at Gold and nodded. Interpreting. Right.
She watched the Prefect as she began to tell her what she thought Iris' life path number meant. So.. She should try something that was creative. Or expressive. "Well... I used to do ballet... and I've just started to learn how to sew. Do they count as something that's creative and illustrative?" Iris frowned slightly as she thought about it. She saw how sewing was creative, but not so much the other two.
As she listened to Gold tell her about her Destiny Number, Iris found herself confused a bit. Lifting soul and spirit? Iris hoped that meant metaphorically, like ... making people happier. Not... actually raising spirits and souls. Either way, she nodded and smiled. Most of it sounded like a pretty good destiny.
"Yeah... It does." Hehe. Iris looked at her book, which truthfully, she didn't know very well, "Okay... You're numbers..."
She flicked to the page with the life path numbers and ran her finger down the page til she got to Golds number, "Well, your Life Path number is Nine..." Iris looked to the book and frowned. She wasn't sure how to 'interpret' it, without just reading the book. "Soooo.... You're someone who, er... Seems to understand everything... or at least, how everything works together." She looked up at Gold with a look that said 'What, exactly, does interconnectedness mean?' before carrying on, "And that you are like, good at healing stuff... But not always medically. Hmm... It says that you're a type of person that heals by really connecting with other people through creative stuff. Like painting." Iris didn't really understand how that was meant to heal someone. Anyways... "So... You would probably do well in a career that was like ... something to do with healing or education. You probably already know that... Like.. maybe subconsiously if you didn't, because I saw you at the Healers booth at that job fair. Hehe." Iris grinned a little as she decided that her interpretation was enough for the Life Path Number.
Then she turned the page to the Destiny Numbers. Eleven. So... Iris' interpretation was going to be very much like Gold's.
LE SIGH.
Interpreting was hard work. But thats why she liked it.
"Well... You, too, have an awesome Destiny Number. And you've got to pretty much do all the stuff I have to, in order to fulfil your destiny path. hehe." She knew that wouldn't be enough for an interpretation, so she looked at the book, and skimmed through the section. "So... You're meant to go into a job that's got leadership in it... Because it says that Number 11's are good leaders. And your a prefect, so your already half way there, in your school career, that is." She smiled at Gold, to show her that Iris thought that being a Prefect was pretty damn cool before carrying on, "and... The book says that " Your job is to rehabilitate, augment, and transform others' lives. Learning to express your teaching ability, rising to the challenge, and stepping into the spotlight will provide opportunity to embrace your destiny. You're destined for inspired leadership. Live up to the demands of devotional living and you shall be the leader your were born to be. " So... I think that means that you're meant to, like... run some kind of business or become REALLY influencial. But if you include the stuff from your Life Path number, then... I reckon it will be something good, like in education or the West End; Y'know... Something that everyone will benefit positively from. I don't see you going into leadership in the Ministry... Because there's no creativity there. It's just... Telling Wizarding Britain what to do. And even if you got there, you wouldn't be fulfilling all of your destiny number, because it isn't, in my eyes, a creative career, and not all Ministers lead for the better, either."
Iris basically thought that Gold would end up becoming a Head Teacher and completely improving a school into something amazing, or taking over the West End, or the Wizarding equivalent, so as to 'heal people' with the Arts. hehe.
That was a lot of talking for Iris. 'Specially seeing as though she doesn't know Gold very well.
Gold nodded. "Definitely," she agreed. "Dance is definitely an art. It speaks of emotions, and can convey what we can't in words, which also makes it illustrative. Sewing is a creative activity, too. I know it takes quite an effort, to master it and perfect one's skills."
She grinned, when Iris began to interpret her Life Path Number. "I wouldn't say I understand everything," she laughed. "But I believe there is a connection between all matter, a universality in the universe, so to speak." Ooh, healing! "I interned with a well-known healer, this summer," Gold said, cheerfully. "I want to be a healer, it's my passion."
Then Iris said that she had seen her, Gold, at the Healers' booth, and Gold nodded. "Right you are!" Hehe.
"Oh, I don't think our numbers are meant to be taken separately," she said, shaking her head. "In my opinion, no interpretation stands true on its own. Not even five or ten. We have a whole set of numbers, and Professor Shackleton told me last year that even the core of all of them, doesn't always have to be true. I mean, some of the stuff they say only appears at certain instances in time. It's all interconnected, I think. But we can't apply all of it, at one certain point in life."
She nodded, then. "No Ministry for me," she laughed. "Maybe I can be head curse-breaker at Gringotts, or something?" She knew she wanted to be a curse-breaker. "Or some sort of head healer? I know that would be pleasant." Gold would love that, in fact.
AND then they had to pack up. Gold frowned - she had been enjoying this discussion - and then, dipping her quill in her signature, PINK! ink, jotted the homework down. That done, she beamed up at Iris. "It was lovely, talking to you!" she said cheerfully. "Have a fun day."
Then she collected her belongings, rose to her feet, and beamed at Professor Hadley. "Thanks for the wonderful lesson, ma'am."

"Ahem," she cleared her throat lightly, as she approached them and looked at them both. "You both better be talking about the meanings of your numbers, as if you make me stop here again, then it will be twenty points from each of you and detention." For chatting and flirting during class. Shame on them.
Content with herself, she walked away and towards a group just starting on their calculations.

Well, Destiny looked good and the only problem in her whole physical appearance was the goggle glasses itself. And he could just imagine that Destiny would look even more stunning without the glasses on.
Tellewission? Ced sure hadn't heard anything 'bout that thing yet. But it really sounded familiar... "Ahh.." He had figured it out in just a matter of a few seconds. "T-they help you see?" He spluttered, a bit surprised that a pair of odd glasses could actually help her see. And so without the glasses, Destiny would lose her sight? Oh man, that would be awful. He would pity her for that. He felt guilty, now he wouldn't try to ask her to wear it off anymore... and that was promise from a loyal, honest badger like he.
Cedric would like to laugh so hard but he cares about himself deeply and wouldn't want to humiliate himself so... he didn't laugh nor chuckle at all at Destiny's purely hilarious remarks. And he'd known to himself that what he said was a joke. But he was confused now, could cold really attack people? Well, he thought they do.. but yeah, not in the way Destiny had thought. "I uhh, definitely can see it." And he was fooling her again, Hehe. "Look! It's about to attack you. Parry it real quick!" And then he burst out laughing.
He then became suddenly serious because he had been just asked with a very, very serious question that should be answered with picked and proper words and precise explanation! Soo what's so stinky? "Stinky. Very well then, I'll tell you what's SO stinky." He whispered and moved a bit closer to the Slytherin girl. "Don't tell about this to anyone..." or I'll crush you!"When the new professor passed by, I thought I smelled something really, really foul. I thought I smelled a vinegar or a puke maybe. I wonder if the new professor has an athlete's foot." There. Done. Enough for explanation.
Destiny had got to be kidding him! How come that the book's interpretations didn't still match to her personality or life? That was odd.. or Destiny was just pretending that the book didn't match HER own interpretation of her life. And he would try to debate and instil in her mind that the book's interpretation could never be that wrong. "Oh, see? You can act. That's creativeness. And hmm, I wonder if you could dance too. Why not dance in front of the class and show how good you really are?" Maybe she could do the banana dance! YAY!
Well, of course her glasses helped her see! Duh! If she had perfect vision she wouldn't need them, now would see? She nodded at his question. There was no need to elaborate on that topic. Pffft.
How was it that Cedric could see the cold and she couldn't? If she was a jealous person, which she is NOT, she would be fuming with jealousy right now. The cold might be like thestrals. One must see death to see the invisible horses, so one must see..
Her train of thought was RUINED as Cedric said the cold was going to attack. Attack HER! She almost jumped out of her seat, and if it weren't for Cedric laughing, she would have ran out of the room as well. "Ha ha. Very funny." Not. Being attacked by the cold wouldn't be so fun.
She leaned in closer as he started to whisper who was stinky. She thought he was going to say she was the stinky one, but as she heard him say the Professor, her eyes widened. Didn't Professor's bathe? The only stinky Professor she knew of was male Lawson, and well, he stunk for other reasons. She shook her head telling him she would not tell anyone of this, and then Destiny saw her. The Professor was coming right over to them! She had to refrain from holding her nose, since she did not want to smell vinegar. Holding her breath, she nodded at the woman standing there. She did not want detention OR points taken off from talking. "Sorry." she squeaked..squeaked from lack of oxygen. She turned away from the Professor, and looked at Cedric. Surely...the Professor didn't think they were flirting did she? Cause..that was GROSS and everyone knew boys had COOTIES!
And now back to their number meanings. Destiny let out a long breath as the Professor walked away, and thankfully the woman's smell didn't linger. Cedric wanted her to..dance? No way. That was not going to happen. "Nope. I don't dance." Not when anyone was looking anyway.
Pffft. Arithmancy. Destiny didn't like it at all! It told LIES! She was glad when the Professor dismissed the class. Finally! Copying down her homework, she packed up her things and stood. She nodded at Cedric and gave him a little wave, since if she talked to him, the Professor might think they were flirting..AGAIN. Pffft.
"Goodbye, Professor Sti--Hadley!" she said, before running out of the class.

Cadence jotted down the homework and flipped quickly through her text book, marking the pages she would need to use for the calculations. Turning to Simon, she smiled at him. "I'll see you in the Common Room later, yeah Simon?" she said kindly. After putting her books away, she put her bag over her shoulder and began on her way out of the classroom. "Thank you, Professor! See you soon!" she said with a bright smile before turning away from the woman and heading out the door.
