Jimbo had no idea what she was talking about so he just went along with it. There was no way he was doing this first. He was going to watch her do it, then he was going to try it. But he might need her help anyway. Urgh.

"You go first." Sitting down, he looked at her and then at the board. Okay, so she needed to know his full name and his birthday to get this done. "Benjamin James Farley, March 22, 2058."

He just wanted to get this over with.

Soo Destiny was c-complimenting him about his hair? He always know that he has a nice hair although some people said it was just tangling with each other and there wasn't something special about it. To him, his hair was precious. He couldn't really imagine himself without a hair, well, tell me, could you imagine a baaald Cedric?

Sometimes, his summer could be completely boring especially on times he wasn't with his friends. And last summer--and quite surprisingly--he totally did nothing but watch comedy romantic movies. Next time, he wouldn't ever forget again not to invite his friends so that they could spend time with him. And he was certain they would really have fun. They could eat whatever they wanted to eat and they could live life to the fullest, drive a car without license, run from muggle polices. Wow, that could be so fun. And then he laughed as Destiny mentioned 'hotel' in a completely different word. "Oh, I didn't know you don't know about muggles that well. Are you pure-blood or half-blood?" He asked curiously and Ced secretly hoped that Destiny wouldn't answer that she was a half-blood Veela. Not that he was afraid of Veelas, it was just that it would be absolutely surreal if ever Destiny was a half-blood Veela.

"And you are quite right about that. But how come the book's interpretation don't seem to connect with you? How come that it says something you are not?" Ced was wondering about that, and he'd try to come up with explanations or answers soon regarding 'bout that matter.

"Hey. Can I just say I love you? You're so, so funny." He pinched her cheeks and he noticed that it started to reddened or.. Destiny just blushed about what he said. And with shear honesty, he was loving Destiny 'cause she was definitely fun to be with and all.

And now she was asking him something that was quite hard to answer. Did she stink? He thought so. Well, just her feet, yep. "I uhh, dunno, really. I'm cold right now," Sneeeeeeeeze.

"Er......" Rae mumbled while flipping through the pages of this textbook until she got to life number patterns which she was under the impression it was the birthday one..
"Er.... So your life pattern number is 9. You will basically learn a lesson of love and interconnectiveness, then you will probably have a job that connects with people like a healer.." Said Rae, putting everything in her own words in kind of a confused tone.... "And since your destiny pattern number is 5 it says your curious and you will evolve.... uhh... Only your free spirit will keep you going, and accept change...." This arithmancy stuff was way too confusing for her, WHY did she take this again?

Alcemee started calculating the numbers. Life Path Number: (March=3) 3+4(22=2+2=4)+6(2058=2+0+5+8=16=1=6)=13=4 (13=1+3=4) Destiny Number: (Pythagorean Number System: Each number represents a letter, up to nine, and with no zeros. When you get to nine, you start again, so A=1, B=2, C=3, etc., until you get to I=9. Then you start again with J=1, K=2, L=3,etc.) B=2, E=5, N=5, J=1, A=1, M=4, I=9, and N=5, so that's 2+5+5+1+1+4+9+5=32=3+2=5. J=1, A=1, M=4, E=5, S=1, so 1+1+4+5+1=12=1+2=3. F=6, A=1, R=9, L=3, E=5, Y=7, so 6+1+9+3+5+7=31=3+1=4. 5+3+4=12=1+2=3.
Alcemee smiled and said, "Your Life Path Number is 4, and your Destiny Number is 3."

"Its okay." Celandine answered. "We do each others I think." Cela looked over Roxxy's numbers.

Humm? She looked up. "I haven't... um... Not a professor I don't think. If I do anything other than be married, it will be experimental charms." Yup. Fun stuff like that. And she still hadn't got her head around the idea of being able to do whatever she wanted in the future. Though.... if Copernicus ended up teaching one day, she could too? As long as they were near each other.

"You know, your numbers kind of mean you could do anything you wanted with people. Born communicator? Compassionate and imaginative? You could be an artist or look after little babies or even be a healer since I bet you'd have a soft touch and a good bedside manner." Cela suggested.

Whoa. She did that all in her head? Just now? No paper, no calculations? Just her head?

"Okay..." So, before they figured out what that means, Jimbo had to do hers. He looked up at the board and took out his textbook to try and figure out how to do all this. He struggled to understand it for a bit but finally got it after an excruciating amount of time. He was just happy he didn't need to ask for help. "So, your full name and your birthday?"

He took out his quill and got ready to write it down and start working with those numbers. Urgh. He HATED numbers. Why was he in this class?

Josephina was wandering around the classroom, observing the students greet others they've never known or maybe met once, and working steadily on the calculations.

Stopping at a young pairing of a Slytherin and a Ravenclaw, she frowned. "I think you've made a minor error in her middle name. If I heard correctly, her middle name is Amelie, not Amelia which would mean the last digit is a 5 not a 1. Other than that, your calculations look good," she nodded, moving on to her partner's parchment.

"My dear, you're so close," Josephina said, shaking her head. "But if my addition is correct..." Which it undoubtedly was. "then nine plus two plus five is 16, which would mean her Expression number is 7, not 9." She smiled at the girl, encouraging her to have another look at those calculations.


Next group.

Oh. So close and to think they were Ravenclaws too. "You're close but I believe you've made an teeny transcribing error, as an R is a 9, not a 7." She said, pointed at Tyler's first name. "Once you recalculate with the correct number, you should be fine."


Oh. Confused student!

"What are you confused about, my dear?" she asked, approaching the girl. Because clearly she couldn't fix the problem unless she knew what the problem was.


Tsk tsk. Students who didn't follow instructions. At least they are working together and the Gryffindor is helping the other one, but still. "You were supposed to calculate each other's numbers," Fina shook her head at the two. "Don't worry about it now though. But I do recommend that, Heminny, while it doesn't appear to make any difference, you reduce your 39 and 44 each to single digits, so 39 to 12 to 3 and then 44 to 8, respectively. This will be sure you don't miss any other important numbers as you further your Arithmancy studies." She gave a small smile to the pair before moving on. "And thank you for helping Simon here, Herminny. Do you understand now, Simon?" Considering she did the work for him.


Not really an error, but just advice. "While your calculations are correct, keep in mind that it is sometimes best to show ALL work. For instance, with his middle name, it adds up to 28, before reducing to 10 and then 1. So just keep in mind that the more work you show, the better off you'll be and less room for errors. Good job though," she commented; especially considering at the start of the lesson, the girl didn't seem like Arithmancy was one of her top subjects.


"My dear!" Josephina hurried over to another pairing, this one of a Gryffindor and a Ravenclaw. "You've made a minor error in your addition. You should reduce all components first to a single digit, which you forgot to simplify her day. So the second number should reduce to a 6, which would bring the sum of your reduced digits to 18, which reduces to 9, as her life path." She nodded at the girl.


"Unless I read wrong, I do believe Adelyn's birthday was on the 6th, not 5th. Please recalculate the life path number with the correct birthday and you should be all set," Josephina nodded at the slytherin girl.

"While it doesn't appear to make any difference, I highly recommend reducing each name to a single digit before adding to the other names. For instance, reducing 45 to a 9, 35 to an 8, 38 to an 11 and then 2, and 11 to a 2. Adding 9 plus 8 plus 2 plus 2 is much easier than those LARGE numbers." Fina nodded at the girl.

"Also, I'm a bit confused by your life path calculation, as the birthyear used is 2078. The current year is 2071, which would mean that the person you're calculating for is to be born in six years. Please as your partner again for their correct birthyear."

"We are calculating a partner's Expression/Destiny numbers and Life path numbers. What are you doing, Miss Malfoy?" Fina asked, narrowing her eyes and wondering about all these Malfoys. She thought the line died out YEARS ago. "What are you confused about?"

"What's wrong, my dear," Fina frowned at the boy who didn't seem proactive at all in finding a partner or working on the calculations. "Which part are you stuck on?"

"Addition, my dear," Fina nodded, noting she partnered with that egotistic Hufflepuff Prefect. Poor dear, but at least he seemed to have a knack for Arithmancy. "Was Prefect Kane able to help you understand better?" It looked like it, but who knows.

"You have to reduce the numbers in each name before you add them together. For instance, the numbers in Edmond reduce to 28 and then 10 to 1, whereas in Malfoy, its 27 to 9. You then would add the two numbers together to equal 10, which reduces to a final destiny number of one." Fina nodded, explaining to the two students about destiny numbers.

Stopping back in front of the Slytherin and the Hufflepuff again, she noted they'd moved on to destiny numbers. "Um Cedric? You've made a small error in your life path calculation for Destiny, as October is the tenth month, not eighth. This should change your final answer." She nodded at him.

Hearing controversy over what name to use, Fina had to interject. "I recommend using your birthname, actually. But for comparison sake, why don't you do both your legal and your birth names?" She would, but that was cause she was curious like that.

Watching the girl fix a minor spelling error in her partner's name, she shook her head.

"You should separate out which numbers are for each name. For if you did that then you would see that the numbers in Katherine reduce to 1, whereas the numbers in Pots reduce to 7, which would mean your final answer is different than what you got. Try it again and you'll see what I mean," Fina nodded at the girl encouragingly.


"Um. You missed the 'h' in her first name," Josephina mentioned to Kenna. "Other than that, your calculations look fine, but be sure to add that 8 in to her first name, as that would make a difference in the final calculation of her destiny number."

Blink.

That girl. Had SO just entered her class late. "Two points from Slytherin for lateness. Next time it will be five and detention."

OOC: Yes, even if you don't announce you're late in dialogue, a post like this still qualifies as a late-arrival post.

"Don't think you can fool me. I know you two know each other better than that casual one-time run in with each other. Go with it this time, but next time, please make sure you follow the directions and choose someone you don't know." She shook her head disapprovingly at the Gryffindors.

"You know it would be much easier to separate out each name on a new line for calculating his destiny number. This way you could be sure you don't make any mistakes," she nodded at the Ravenclaw girl, before returning to the front of the room.




"Everyone is doing wonderfully so far, but some general reminders are when calculating someone's name, please make sure you fully reduce each component to a single digit before adding to the other components. For instance, in my name, Hadley, the numbers 8+1+4+3+5+7 added up to 28, which I reduced to a 10 and then 1, before adding it to my the number from my middle and first names." Josephina explained, pointing at the board with her numbers up there.

"A good recommendation when starting out is to write out each name separately and assign a number to it, according to the Pythagorean number system. Total each name and reduce to a single digit.

Then go back and add up the final reduced digits to get your final number. The more work you show, the less chance of making a mistake. Plus, I can give partial credit if you show your work, whereas if you don't, then I cannot give you any credit." She paused letting this all sink in, as she glanced at her watch.

"Time is nearly out for the lesson, please spend the next ten minutes finalizing your calculations. I will hand out the homework at the end. If you have any questions, please ask myself or someone who's figured it out already."

Um everything, I really don't get this destiny thing and the umm whats the other one? Life path numbers Amy asked happy she was getting some help

Everything? Oh Merlin! Was this girl sleeping during the lesson?

"The Destiny number is one of your core numbers that indicates your life's purpose, ultimately. It is calculated by using the full name listed on your birth certificate and assigning the appropriate number from the chart in your textbook. You figure out each name separately and then add the reduced total of each name, with lastly reducing to a single number." Let's get this kid understanding one number before moving onto the lifepath.

"For instance, your last name is Samson..." She wrote it clearly on the girl's parchment:

Simon looked at the Professor. "I have no clue how she did it." Simon didn't understand music. "I don't understand any off this." Simon sighed and with that he burst into tears, knowing that he was going to be in trouble for not doing it right.

Cadence listened as the professor spoke. She and Aiden had already finished and had done just fine, but there seemed to still be a lot of other people struggling that she could probably help. And then she saw that firstie boy crying again, and though she wanted to roll her eyes she didn't. Standing up, she walked over to where he was sitting. Maybe it'd make things better if she helped him? Smiling at him and then looking up at the Professor, she said, "Professor, I understand it. I can help him if you'd like."

Sort of, but I don't understand why M is 4? Amy said confused, apart from that though she got it, she looked over to Simon and looked at him, willing him to stop crying

Alcemee replied, "My full name is Jaenis Alcemee Esilna, and my birthdate is July 13, 2059."

Alex decided to help the teacher out and went over to the confused girl, " We use something called the The Pythagorean Number System we assign the letters A-Z numerical values 1-9. As shown in chapter two of our book." Alex pulled out the book and pointed the Number system out to her.

Leilani smiled at the other girl. Okay, so mabey this wasn't as hard as it sounded? She took a seat next to the other girl. "Um, okay. Well, my name's Leilani." yeah, names were important.

Jimbo wrote her name and birthday down, then tried to figure out the calculations by looking at the board and his textbook.

Uhm. Okay. Well, the first one sounded completely wrong. The second one was closer to being right. But then again, what would he know about the future? Shaking his head at the textbook, Jimbo again decided that he really didn't like Arithmancy. The numbers made no sense sometimes. And just when he was starting to feel a little proud of himself that he'd figured it all out...

But then, when he looked at the textbook again, he saw something that confused him a little. He raised his hand and made sure he spoke loud enough for the professor to hear. "Professor, what does the textbook mean when it mentions numbers eleven, twenty-two and twenty-three? I thought we were supposed to reduce."

The more Destiny looked at Cedric's hair, the more she had to agree with the compliment she had given him. It was nice, and it looked really soft. She wanted to ask if she could touch it, but she figured he was on of those boys that spent a really long time in the mornings to perfect their hair, and with one sweep of a hand, it would be ruined. Destiny really didn't want to listen to him complain that she had ruined his hair, so she would just admire it..when he wasn't looking, since that would be really strange and stuff.

Cedric was laughing at her..again. Not knowing what she did to cause him to laugh, she glared at him with an eyebrow raised. Maybe he was laughing because she had never been to France. She didn't see anything funny in that though. Some people were not lucky enough to be able to travel all over the place anytime they wanted too! As he asked about her blood status, her eyebrow lowered and she was not glaring anymore. Well, she knew he was either a muggle-born or half-blood, since he had said his mother owned muggle businesses. And she had never heard of a hobble before. "I'm a pureblood." she answered. "I know a few things about muggles. Like we have a telliewission at home!" Hopefully Evelyn didn't hear her say that. Her friend would not be pleased. "Are you..half-blood?"

How was Destiny supposed to know why the book's interpretation was wrong about her? It's not like she wrote the thing. "Perhaps the book is outdated or something. It's too old to know my life numbers and stuff." Obviously it was right for Cedric, since his interpretations were all right about him, and he was older than herself. "Or the book is stupid." Ha! Who would have though a book could be stupid!?

BLINK.

Cedric loved her? Because she was funny!? Eww. Eww. Ewwwww! She raised her eyebrow as he said that, and started to lean back in her chair. Usually when someone says they love you, they end that statement with a kiss. There was no way she was going to let him put his lips anywhere near her face! She was relived as he didn't kiss her, but instead pinch her cheek. Not that she wanted her cheek to be pinched, but it was much better than a lip-lock, that's for sure. "Oww!" she exclaimed as he let go. She could feel her cheek turn red, but that was only because he pinched her SO HARD!

She sat there, wide eyed and rubbed the spot he pinched. Pfft, and now he couldn't answer if she stunk or not. "Maybe you need to see the Healer if you are cold. You're getting sick." That's because he had cooties.

Still rubbing her cheek, she nodded as the Professor addressed her. Show all work. That she should have known, since KaziMan had taught them potions. The more you show, the better. "Okay," she nodded, and wrote that little bit of information down on her parchment. She would have to remember that for next lesson.

Once again Destiny glared at Cedric. He had mussed up her reading! Not that she cared or anything since now there was a huge possibility that she was not going to be doomed working at a bookstore when she was older.

Good thing. The smell of new books gave her a headache.

Cassie looked around. She didnt have a partner but she thought that she may as well participate.

cassie frowned in frustration and put her quill down. Embarassed by her failure, she raised her hand, hoping the professor could help her.

Mina smiled and opened her notebook. "Nice to meet you Leilani." she replied. "I'm Jasmina, but everyone calls me Mina." Introductions were done and now it was time to move on.

Becca looked around for another partnerless person when she saw a younger girl-then again, most people here were younger than she-on her own. Deciding to go over, Becca walked over to her. "Hi, my name's Becca Latrowski. Do you still need a partner?"

"I had figured it out, but thank you." Ellie said nicely to the not so nice professor.

Okeydokie then. Leilani flipped open her notebook and took out a pen. So names and birthdays first. She wrote at the top of a blank page:

Okay, so she'd start. "Well, my full name's Leilani Anjelica Rhode and I was born on August 3rd 2057." that was her birthday wasn't it?!? .... ????

"Hi Becca. um, it seems that I do. Would you like to be my partner?" Cassie asked hopefully, blushing a little at the obvious mess her parchment was in.

Mina quickly jotted down Leilani's full name and birthday.

Looking up from her writing, she nodded. "Well, my full name is Jasmina Simone Bennett and my birthday is 4 June 2058." she replied.

Oh no! Crying! Tears! Didn't this boy know that there was no crying in baseball Arithmancy!? Seriously.

"It's not worth tears over, Mr Simpson," she shook her head, speaking softly now, as she conjured a handkerchief for him. She was sooo not good with tears, unless they were her own and it was because she failed everything, but that was another story . . .

She was about to sit and explain it to him, as she did with Amy, when . . .

"That would be lovely. Thank you Cadence," Fina nodded at the girl, encouraging him to sit with her housemate and explain it more slowly.

Turning back to Amy to see if her slower paced explanation helped, she was about to respond to her question about M being 4 when some Slytherin decided to interrupt and offer an explanation. At least Cadence asked before helping / offering advice. Slytherins . . . always think they know everything and can do whatever they please.

"Yes, as Alexandrie said, the reason why M is 4 is because we use the Pythagorean Number system which gives each letter of the alphabet a numerical value from one to nine." She reiterated, her hand on her hip. No point in showing her the text, since Ms Alexandrie Malfoy-Lupin took it upon herself to show her that too. Sigh.


"Ah, good question there, Mr Farley," Josephina smiled, surprised that no one else had asked about that. "I'm presuming you meant to say thirty-three, but yes the numbers 11, 22, and 33, are reduced single digits yet they are also special. Because if one of these numbers appear before you reduce your number to a single digit, then it means something special. These are master numbers, which have special energies in themselves as you can read about in chapter five of your textbook."

"Yes?" She asked, approaching the Slytherin girl who had her hand raised. Overlooking her work, she had to frown for a moment. "Before you ask your question, I have to comment that you check your work on your Expression Number, as if you reduce each name before adding them together, I believe you should reach a more accurate number."
