Of course, she'd much rather just hold a conversation, but then again, the teacher had deducted house points and she knew she'd caused some of that. What kind of teacher doesn't allow a little talking. She only said hi anyway.
He smiled at Ellie. She seemed rather nice. And he would generally want to talk to her first, but especially after the DADA thing, he didn't want chatter. "Yes, we should. You want to go first?" Because it was polite to ask.

Bleh, work. Can't they talk? She hadn't met too many older students yet. At least not as much as she'd like. Dumb.
"You mean, I do yours or tell you my name and stuff?" Yes, she was procrastinating.
Hmmm... Abby looked over the parchment that Rae pushed over to her. "I think you'll want to recheck your math on most of these," she said, pointing to her figures. "See, here with my first name. A-B-I-G-A-I-L would be this in numbers."
"And guess what?" Abby said, grinning. She pointed to Rae's notes. "You have exactly that written down! Which means you got this far completely right." Yayz!
"However," Abby continued, "you put down 37 as the sum of all these numbers. Actually, the real answer is 41."
Abby underlined the sum of all the numbers. "Okay, so you'll see that our sum has two digits; four and one. We need to reduce this so that it's only one digit," she explained. "We do this by separating the digits and adding them together. Like this."
"There!" Abby said, pointing to the five. "That's the answer we're looking for. Now, you have to follow the same process with my middle name and my last name. Understand?" She pushed the parchment back over to Rae. "You do that and then show me the three numbers when you're done. We've just done the first one, so all you need to do is find the second and third. Let me know when you're finished."
Rae severely tried to understand what Abigail was saying. She stared at the paper as her partner was writing down the numbers. Then she finished.. Wait WHAT? "That was ONLY your first name??" Oh merlin now she was lost.... She scrambled as she looked from what Abigail had written to what Rae had previously written to find that Abigail was right, Rae failed at simple math.... How embarrassing. "Oh right, okay one moment..."And Rae began scribbling

He wrote down the info as she gave it to him. "I think we do. 'cause I think it would be your full name." He didn't like it though since she hated her middle name. But what could they do?
"Do I what?" she asked raising a eyebrow. If he finished that question with the word bathe, Destiny was seriously going to find another partner..and possibly show him that she does in fact bathe. But, that would require her to take shoes off and she did not feel like doing that. Even without shoelaces, they were still a pain to take off and then put back on.
She really did hope this boy was good at Arithmancy. Perhaps the Professor should have said something about partnering up with someone better at the subject than yourself. That way no matter who Destiny partnered up with they could totally do the whole thing for her! Yeah. He looked pretty skilled in this subject, which was good for her, bad for him. "Partners." she repeated, just because she felt like it.
Obviously she didn't know him. If she had known him, they wouldn't be partners right now! "Right. Ced Cedric Nicolas Leone." she said nodding at his question about being prepared to work, and wrote his name down on the parchment in front of her. Wow, that was a long name. At second glance though, she figured Ced was just a nickname, and quickly crossed it off her parchment. Oops. "You should write my name down, too. Destiny Hekate Shepard. That's Hekate with a K, not a C." She had to make that clear, or her reading would all be wrong! "When is your birthday?"

"Nevermind." He told her, grinning. And enough for chatting, they needed to do the equation now. He just hoped that Destiny was good enough at Arithmancy or do know how to add at least.
He watched her in horror as the girl repeated his name. The girl just got it quite wrong. And then he chuckled as she crossed 'Ced' off. He didn't expect that Slytherin could be silly sometimes. Err, well, most of the Slytherins around were silly. Silly like crazy. Crazy as though they had lost their sanity. And he wasn't being prejudiced against the green and silver house, he was just observing how they act.
"Ooh. You're done already. And my birthday is December 24, 2055. And don't forget to read or interpret the interpretation of my life path number, Destiny." He told the girl and then scribbled down Destiny's complete name on his parchment as she told him her real name. And then he started solving... and Destiny should not perturb while he was working. "Hmm.. Nice middle name by the way." He muttered under his breath while casually solving Destiny's destiny number. And Ced later added, "And your birthday please?"
He wrote down the info as she gave it to him. "I think we do. 'cause I think it would be your full name." He didn't like it though since she hated her middle name. But what could they do?
She blushed. This was so embarrassing.
She leaned closely to him, "Gladys" she whispered. Oh, REALLY! Worst name on the face of the planet. Why did her mom insist on naming her after her mom's great grandma. That name was ancient! Ughh.

Aww. She was embarrassed.
He leaned in when she whispered her name to him. "Okay, I won't tell anyone your middle name," he assured her with a laugh before starting on her numbers:

Did that mean he was going to ask if she bathed or not? Oh Merlin. It seemed every term, Destiny had a problem with hygiene, no matter how many times she bathed, someone had something to say. Like Josh last term. She knew he was hinting that her feet stunk, when they did NOT! Josh was just jealous because she had small girl feet and he had big clown feet. "Okay, nevermind then." She would drop it, since she didn't want to find a new partner and they had to finish this assignment.
"December 24, 2055." she repeated writing down this new information. 2055? How old was he? She stared at him for a moment, trying to figure this out, and deciding she could not do math in her head, she went back to looking at her parchment. Nice middle name? He had to be joking, since that name sounded like a cat..coughing up a hairball. "My birthday is October 24, 2057." she said, deciding not to comment on her middle name. He seemed like he was concentrating too hard anyway to be bothered with stupid talk. She took her time to calculate Cedric's Life Path number, since she did not want to muss up and give the wrong interpretation!
When she finished calculating and writing down the interpretations, she turned the parchment around to better face Cedric. "So, are these right about you? The meanings, I mean. Not the calculations."
'Cause she was SURE she had added them up right.

Iris smiled, "Thanks." She said in reply to the girl. Gold, did she say? "Pretty AND interesting name." She said to Gold. Iris also took out her quill and wrote down Gold's birthday and name at the top of her parchment, in multi-coloured ink.
Looking up at Gold, Iris blinked a couple of times, forgetting that her name wasn't the English spelling, "D - O - R - O - T - H - E, with a grave accent - E." She said with a small nod. And a three? If she remembered properly from last year, that was what she'd figured out herself, too. "Erm... How'dyou spell your surname?" She asked, looking down to her parchment.
While she waited for the spelling of Gold's last name, she figured out Gold's Life Path Number:

I guess we are partners." Nessa said with a smile and motioned to the set next to her.
Nessa glanced back at the board for the instructions, she quickly read it and turned to Grayson, "My name is Jennessa Taylor, not middle name and my birthday is May 7, 2060" she said while making sure that was all the information she was suppose to pass on.
Grayson grinned again as the girl she'd approached seemed to be okay. Both with the professor making them partners and everything else. Plus it felt good to know she hadn't approached the wrong girl. "It's nice to meet you too, Jennessa. D'you have any nicknames?," she asked, curious. She knew she herself didn't have many yet, but for some reason Jennessa's name seemed more likely to make agreeable nicknames out of. Way better than hers. Taking the seat that was offered, she started scribbling a little in her journal as it seemed her partner was checking things out. It seemed straight-forward to her, but she didn't begrudge double-checking.
As Jennessa spoke to her again, she looked up. "Um, okay. No middle name? Really?" There was that curiosity back. At this rate she wasn't getting the assignment done any time soon. Blinking as she tried to focus, she chewed on the end of her pencil for a second before she realized she probably should give her partner her own information. "Oh, well, I guess you already know my name. Grayson Melinda Kelly." She'd said it when she'd walked over at least, but repetition was okay when it was for the assignment. "And my birthday is May 29, 2058." Yay, a fellow May kid. Maybe she should go around finding out people's birthdays more often. "Well, time for calculating, I guess." Before she got distracted again, that was for sure.
Chewing on her pencil again, she glanced at the professor's example. Didn't seem different from what she'd learned at home. Feeling a bit better about it all, she then started writing again in her journal.
Looking up from her scribbling with a giggle, she looked at her partner again. "Did you know your first name is kind of funny when you change the letters for numbers?" It was just an observation, but it was funny.

Iris looked at Gold, "Aaand you're Life Path Number is nine... That is, if I've figured it out properly." She grinned a little bit after saying this.
"Thank you," Gold said cheerfully.
She nodded, when Iris corrected her spelling, and wrote it down. She shouldn't have gotten it wrong, to be honest. She was French. But she had not been sure exactly how another person would spell it. To each, their own -- phonetics. Hehehe.
"Laksh," she said. "L-A-K-S-H."
She looked over at the girl's calculations. "Pretty much correct," she offered, with a friendly smile. "Go you!"

He smiled as she said 'okay' and approved to drop the subject. Well, he didn't really want to ask to the girl if she bites people or not now that he thought that she might react negatively to that. And he was thankful that Destiny wasn't that odd, he found her amusing though and he was fascinated by her goggles glasses and her eyes were like werewolf-ish.
Buuut..
It wasn't the right time to stare and study Destiny's phenomenal features. He looked back on his parchment and trying not to get distracted again by Destiny and nope, Destiny wasn't being ultra attractive but over distracting, yep.
He stared at her as she repeated his birthday. Did she scoffed or snickered maybe? she'd better not. And Ced realized that Destiny didn't seem to believe that he just commended her about her middle name. "Hey. I'm joking, right? I know your middle name sounds horrible... And you and the new Potions professor both shares that 'Hekate' name.. Well, sort of."
And now he had been just finished computing Destiny's life path number and he didn't want things to be mixed or muddled up so he checked on in his work again. " And I'm now done with yours." He grinned and nonchalantly peered at Destiny's parchment which contained his core numbers.
"Hmm. Those are quite accurate. As it says, I'm destined for managing and methodizing and that could be so true since we own businesses.. muggle businesses and Mom is the one who is running it all...." He told her and added inwardly just to himself, "Since my father died just too soon." And he wasn't really boasting. For him, running a company wasn't something to be proud of because it was suffocating, it would be like his life would be planned every single day.
"Anyway, about my Life path number. It's quite accurate too I think since I'm interested in designing. Well, designing landscapes and/or gardens like a horticulturist to be specific.

Eh, in order for her to concentrate on the work, she must forget that someone...was in her personal space. *shudder*
Oliver Greenwood? No middle name? She did realize however that this was the quidditch captain she'd heard about. Well, not really heard about, but she knew someone named Oliver Greenwood was the Slytherin captain, and this ought to be him. Exciting...
Woah woah woah...woah. What? HE didn't know her? Really, she was getting tired of introducing herself. "Evelyn Rose Flores." she said simply with a small smile, pushing her notebook that had her full name at the top towards him in case his brain couldn't grasp those words. She didn't expect him to, so no worries there.
"When's your birthday?" she asked, bringing her notebook back closer to herself so she could write his name down, along with his birthday whenever he spoke it. Really. He didn't know her. Pfft.
“Evelyn Rose Flores” Oliver repeated whilst at the same time writing the girl's name in his untidy scrawl in his notebook. “Nice to meet you Evelyn Rose Flores.” He gave the young girl a smile hoping she was smart. Maths had never really been Oliver's thing.
“It's 31st May 2055.” He replied to her question. “What's yours?” He sat poised ready to jot down her date of birth.

Having been watching Destiny and her partner for a moment, who she had recognized as Cedric, Evelyn was suddenly brought back to her own discussion by a nice greeting.
"Nice to meet you too." she muttered, in the process of drawing some random design in her notebook before quickly writing down his birthday. 2055? Then, that would make him a sixth year didn't it? Well, there was her...random piece of new information for that day!
"Mine is...20th August 2058." she said, glancing quickly up at him, returning his smile with a small one of hers before looking back down at his name. "Do you not have a middle name?"

20th August 2058 - Oliver scribbled that down in his notebook. He raised an eyebrow and eyed the girl. Third year then?
He shook his head. “Nope.. no middle name.” Eh.. But that posed a question and Oliver pulled a face and scratched the top of his head - families and shizz could be mighty confusing. “Is this supposed to be the name on your birth certificate?” He mumbled to the girl. Maybe he should ask the professor. Technically Greenwood wasn't the name on his birth certificate, but it had been legally changed by his father to Greenwood.

No...middle name. Well, that was alright she guessed. As long as he had a first and last name.
Looking back up to Oliver, Evelyn stared for a moment as his question ran through her mind. Did he not listen to her speak about how to find the Destiny number? She had made it clear...unless..."Is Oliver Greenwood not the name on your birth certificate?" she asked, not really sure what to do if that was the case.
"Perhaps...you should ask the professor." she said, looking down in her notebook. Well, at least she was able to find the life path number. Unless that wasn't his birthday either.
Arya almost giggled at Nacy's comment, but instead just settled for a grin. "Your not that old." She looked at Nancy's birthday again and did the math. Hmm, she wasn't that old yet. Compared to the professor she was still young though. She relaxed a bit, so Nancy was apparently good at Arithmancy. Boy the jam she would have been in if they both had been bad in the subject. Grow to love Arithmancy? Obviously she didn't know that Arya planned to use her notes for roasting marshmellows when finals were over. Mmm boy, those were gonna be some tasty smores.
Listening as the Prefect spoke, she tried to work out the math as the older girl worked but she was moving faaast. Maybe she should have just watched first? Arya scribbled down her calculations while listening to Nancy, her head whipping between both of their parchements. When she had finished atempting to find Life Path Number, she frowned down at her parchement, scratching her head with her quill. "I don't think it's right." She showed Nancy her sloopy work.

Nancy rolled her eyes at Arya in amusement upon hearing her reply to her being-old-comment. Yeah, in comparison to all the teachers around she wasn't but looking at all the other students..."But it's sad really." She gave the other girl a genuine smile before moving on to her calculations. This was fuuuuuun. And the Hufflepuff would soon agree with her. Yes, definitely.
...or you know not. Err. Nancy took a quick look at Arya's parchment and slowly shook her head before glancing back up at the girl. "Nope...sorry, not correct. My Life Path Number isn't 7." Because she totally knew her Life Path Number cause she was just awesome like that. Hehe."Wait...you first need to reduce the 12 to 1+2 which is 3. Oh, and I wasn't born in 2054." She pointed the girl's errors out for her with a patient smile on her lips. "If you now add them together correctly you should geeeeet...?" Nancy grinned at her expectantly, waiting for Arya to fill the gap.
It should be right, might have confused myself with all the crossing out XD

Arya had no idea what Nancy's comment meant, seeing how she was young and all. So instead she reluctantly went back to her calculations. If only she was working alone, then she could just doodle.
Arya looked at her work with a vacant expression, she knew it wasn't correct. Why where they even doing this? What was the point? Siiigh. This time Arya decided to listen to the prefect before writing anything down, taking note of the mistakes she made. Atleast Nancy was being all nice and patient about it. Fixing her mistakes, she stared at the parchement before telling Nancy what she got. Not that she could see her work.

Oblivious to the accusing way in which the girl was staring at him, Oliver shrugged. “No.” He replied and crinkled his nose. “It was Oliver Broadmoor when I was born.” (Yeah... as in the muggle loony bin) That was the name on his birth certificate. “But it's been changed by law since then so I don't know.” He gave the girl a apologetic look – he really didn't want to confuse things. Sigh. “Just go with Greenwood.” He said decisively pointing at her parchment.. cos that was his name now and had been for a number of years... and he had to admit he liked it better - Oliver Greenwood had a much nicer right to it. Yup yup.

Fletcher looked up, surprised someone had actually taken up his offer of partners. They weren't too far behind the rest of the class to start calculating, now were they?
Not that he was in any rush to do math or anything....
"Sure, sure, have a seat," he smiled and pulled out the chair at the desk beside him. "Name's Fletcher."

"Go you!"

She read through all of the working outs that Gold had done, and didn't point out that she'd figured out her Destiny Number wrong in First year. Gold didn't need to know that. hehe. "Nope... You've done them all right." She said, with a smile. "And now my turn." Iris added, with a smile. Iris looked up at Gold as she finished writing. "So, presuming that my working out is correct, me and you seem to have the same Destiny." Iris said to Gold with a grin.
