After quickly scribbling down the three uses of runes as well as what the professor mentioned about the Germanic and Nordic tribes, Vashti pondered for a moment on the question before raising her hand, wanting to take a shot at guessing, "Professor, perhaps they wanted to be able to better pass on their knowledge of the runes and what they did so that their descendants could do the same? And using it as a written language could be a bit more efficient than passing it on only through speech?"

Well, her answer was close enough. Not really, but still. It was history. Not her favorite thing in the world. Unless it was History of Magic class.
"Umm, aett...professor? Or ...aettir for plural I think." she said, raising her hand once more. It was only a guess on the plural. She couldn't remember if she read that in the book correctly or not. Oops.

Okay notes...notes...where was her quill! Searching through her bag, Nikki pulled out quill and some ink. She pulled her parchement towards her and began to scribble down notes quickly so she could catch up with what they were talknig about.
Yes they were badly done. Nikkis handwritting was terrible when she wrote quickly. And it was sumuged in a few places, but oh well! Looking up Nikki listened to Professor Shackleton ask a question. "They're called aettir. And one group is called aett." Nikki said raising her hand in the air.

Alexandrie wrote everything the Professor said slowly not wanting to miss anything. She didn't know the answer to this question anyway so she focused it on making sure her notes were right and until the Professor told them if the two girls were right or not she hoped they were she wanted to make a personal rune set it sounded interesting.

Macadrian gestured her head to the side in a way that showed they were half right. "Well, yes, a grouping of eight runes in general is called an Aett, but I was referring to specific groupings - particularly Freya's Aett, Hagall's Aett, and Tir's Aett."
Shackleton-Clark allowed the students time to make their notes before continuing, "Anyhow, the tribes used this alphabet, with its three groupings of eight, to correspond, to divine future events, and to magically channel their energies into the forces of Nature. I am going to give the class the opportunity to vote on which of these three areas you'd like to focus on this term. So, which do you prefer to study?"
