A quick note from the Professor hangs by the classroom door for all to read:

Welcome to Potions class. I hope you are looking forward to a fun, educational and successful year.
I am
Professor Kazimeriz, Potions Master of this school and your instructor in this course.
There are a few simple rules I expect you to know before you set foot in my class:
1.
Play by the Rules.
All Hogwarts School rules apply in my classroom, so please take a minute to read and familiarize yourself with the
School Rules.
2.
Be Prepared.
I expect that all students who attend my class are here for one purpose: to learn. With that in mind, I expect you to be both punctual and prepared when you enter my class. Fail to arrive prepared, and I will presume you are volunteering to clean the cauldrons and potions lab equipment after class... and that you also seek to receive additional punishment up to and including that most shameful of events, a loss of house points... along with a liberal dose of mocking from your peers.
3.
Keep to the topic.
My class is not for the faint of heart or weak of mind. The field of Potions Making is a detailed, difficult area of study, and it demands your focus and concentration at all times. While I encourage open discussion and debate within my class, please keep your discussion on the lesson topic. If the conversation wanders from academic discussion into socialization, the offenders will face my disapproval and will suffer whatever consequences I deem appropriate at the time.
4.
Do not Speak out of Turn.
I expect you to respect my teachings and each other while in this class. (ooc: In other words: Please don't turn the thread into a 'chat thread'. That being said, you are encouraged to interact and speak with each other! If you have any questions about this rule, please PM Xanasnape and we can talk about it. My OOC door is always open.

)
5.
Safety First!
Success in the subtle and intricate art of potions making requires in-depth knowledge of ingredients, their use and their interactions, as well as secondary interactions, magical laws, and complex alchemical concepts. As such, you will be expected to use common sense and adhere to strict safety guidelines in my class. We can't have you throwing ingredients into a cauldron all willy-nilly! You will be expected to
follow instructions, listen attentively, and behave responsibly. You will be called on to clean up after yourselves and to exercise caution in your brewing. Those who fail to comply with safety guidelines in my classroom may face strict disciplinary action.
(ooc: Feel free to make mistakes/blow things up/get creative ...within reason and with the knowledge that IC disruptions will be responded to IC by the stern Professor. But know that you are encouraged to be creative and have fun,
especially if it makes me laugh. Just don't copy other people's responses or answers... it's not fair to them or fun for you.)
6.
A word on experimentation: I understand that some of you will be more advanced than other students and may feel the desire to experiment and deviate from your assigned potion instructions. This may only be done in my class with
my consent and approval, for reasons of safety of the entire class! Remember that you are not yet a potions master, no matter how much mum/dad/great-grandma/Aunt Edna gave you private tutoring before you arrived at Hogwarts. You will be expected to treat my class, class ingredients, and my labs with respect, and may only deviate with my permission. There will be an opportunity to sign up for a monitored open studio Advanced Potions Lab for those who demonstrate skill, experience, and competency.
This will be the only warning you will receive, so heed it well. If you have any questions about these rules or any other general questions I might be able to help you with, please feel free to contact me in my office or owl me (PM XanaSnape). My door is always open for eager students!
Welcome to Potions class!
Professor Kazimeriz, esq.
Order of Merlin, Third Class
Deputy Headmaster, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Potions Master
ooc: Please don't feel overwhelmed by the IC rules of the professor! He's a stern and scary man, but as long as you follow the main
school rules and treat my class and your classmates with creativity and respect, we'll get along just fine OOC.

That being said...
Let's play!
