Transfiguration I - Introduction
 

Arya skiped into the classroom still chewing a piece of gum. She was looking forward to transforming objects. A grin on her face she waved at the professor before taking a seat at the front. "Hey professor, how are you?" She could tell by the professor that this was gonna be a great class. She took out her notebook and quill, preparing to take notes. Swinging her feet, she poped a small bubble.

Feeling quite nervous Kailey stepped into her first class "Transfiguration" she slowly made her way to one of the seats and felt quite stupid to be one the first ones to arrive. As Kailey walked up the aisle to the desks she tripped and and knocked a desk and a few chairs down. Rubbing her head stupidly and repeating "Ouch" a few times she straightened up the chairs and lifted the desk back up. "I'm sorry." she said blushing.

Another claaaaaaaaaass!

And this one Miranda was actually looking forwards to. She'd been starting to get interested in Transfiguration at the end of the summer, and hopefully Mrs. Pilliwickle would help answer a few questions.

She walked inside and smiled at the elder woman. "Good day, Mrs. Pilliwickle! How are you today?" With a nod, she went to sit down somewhere she could see clearly.

Elisabeta entered the Transfiguration classroom and took a seat in the middle of the class

Alexa loped into Transfiguration a bit glum after the nutter professor in DADA creeped her out.

"Hello Professor Pilliwickle." she said with a half smile as she took a seat.

Reese headed into the classroom expecting to see Professor Svensson at the desk, but instead she noticed this old lady there. Um... "Hello Professor," she greeted the woman. Might as well introduce herself to the woman. "I'm Prefect Reese Upstead," she added with a smile. Honestly, she did NOT like all this staff changing! Sighing, she headed over to one of the empty desks and took a seat.

Transfiguration!
Destiny liked this class and it might even be her favorite.

She walked into the classroom, and..oh that lady reminded her of her grandmum. Hopefully she wasn't as crazy and Destiny didn't see any cats walking around. 'Hello Professor!'

Did she have to speak loud for her?

Becca walked into Transfiguration happily. "Hello Professor! Having a nice day?" She said and then took a seat in the middle of the classroom.

Her last first lesson for the year in Transfiguration!

"Good day, Professor!" Rachel greeted the rather old respectful and elderly teacher who was smiling like a Cheshire Cat, only not as freakishly. Raising her messenger bag over her head, she sat down at a table relatively close to the middle of the classroom and began arranging her hair - it ALWAYS got messed up because of the awful draft that Hogwarts always seemed to have.

Eh, well. She loved the castle all the same.

Walking into the room, the first thing she noted was...the color of the walls. Really? Couldn't she have made them like, green or something? Grey was boring. Even silver was better. Teehee. Green and silver...

"Good day, Professor...oh." Wow, so this was the new Transfiguration teacher. The old lady she saw at the feast. Resisting the urge to laugh, since well, she didn't want to make up an excuse for it at the moment, she smiled sweetly at the Professor before going to sit next to Destiny. "You thinking what I'm thinking?"

Kellen couldn't help but look up and grin as Livvy did what he couldn't and skipped into the room. Apparently he wasn't the only one who loved Transfiguration. Good. Maybe they could be partners. He'd prefer that, actually, because if he had to be partners with Chaucer he'd spend more time helping than learning.

He couldn't DO magic. WHYYYY was he HERE?!

Looking quite grumpy, Jake shuffled into the classroom, blatantly having just woken up from a very peaceful nap. He rubbed his eyes and entered the classroom, staring around.

Wanna go back to bedddddd...

I have permission to manhandle Garret until his Keeper arrives.
 

Traaansfiguration! It was on her list, it was. Daphne Hopton wasn't sure why it was, but it was just there. She had plans to work for the Ministry and although she was aiming for Obliviator Extraordinaire, Daphne figured it wouldn't hurt to know how to change things.

Yes, things and their properties. Curious.

Also, because she had found him on her way here, Daphne had proceeded to drag/persuade Garret Crocker into coming. Maybe he'd learn a thing or two.

"Garret, you sit here," she said, trying to ignore the sleepy look on his face. Three sickles that his forehead would hit the desk as soon as she turned around. Taking a seat, Daphne sat straight up trying her best to look like a very studious person.

Underneath the desk, Daphne tugged on her sliiightly short school skirt. Heh.

Oh, she was so EXCITED! Professor Pilliwickle positively BEAMED as the first of the little people arrived. "Hello to you, dear!"


They were all so poilte! And cute! "I'm marvellous thank you, lovie!"

"They were very well, thank you," Mildred smiled sweetly to the next girl.

Oh deary. "Are you okay, poppet?" Milly asked, a little shocked when another girl came in and fell over!

"Perfect!" Mildred sung happily when another of the nice students asked how she was. Such a lovely bunch they were!

"Hello there, sweetie!" AWWWWWW!!!

Oooh, a quiet one! Mildred simply smiled at the older looking girl as she passed.

"Turn that frown upside down!" Professor Pilliwickle said in her sing song voice when a sad looking girl came in. Noooo, she didn't want the students being down! Sad was bad!

"Hello Prefect Upshed," Mildred smiled, her bad hearing already getting the better of her. Oops.

"Very lovely," Mildred giggled happily, nodding at the next girl to arrive.

"Good afternoon, my love!"

Someone was happy! "That's what I like to see! Nice big SMILES!" HEHE!

This one could really do with some smiles! "Just perfect thank you, dear," Mildred smiled softly.

Head Girl? Oooh, she must've been SMART! Yay! "Hogwarts is very charming," she giggled some more, standing and eyeing the class filling up before her. "We'll wait a little longer for latecomers and then we'll start learning some TRANSFIGURATION, shall we!?" She clapped her hands excitedly.

Avery Isabella Grace walked into the class and sat down. "Hello Professor", she said as she passed. Avery looked around. Only four or five students seemed to be in the room. Avery didn;t like the uniforms for Hogwarts very much. The skirts were slightly short when she sat down, but that didn't bother her much. She just thought the grays in it were a little dull. She liked blacks better.

Holding his books at his side, Audio walked into the same transfiguration class he's always walked into his previous years. Ahh, such memories. Bad and good, of course, but always fun for the most part. He smiled to the professor, "Good afternoon." he said with a nod, which was odd for him- usually he would just keep to himself. He took a seat an empty desk, leaving the seat next to him open.

Damon walked in quickly to the classroom. Just like last term this was one of his favorite classes. He quickly found a place to sit and wait for instruction to begin.

Emily walked into Transfiguration. She was just barely on time. "Good morning Professor," she said cheerfully. Oh, another class, she was happy. Emily saw Arya and took a seat next to her friend.

"Professor Pilliwickle, took over for Svennson. He went to HoM." Lexi gave by way of an explanation. She was in a poor mood and her feelings were a bit hurt.

Alexa grimaced a bit when the Professor told her to turn her frown upside down. The little old lady was kinda sweet. Transfiguration was one of her fave subjects... it can't all be a horrbile today, right? Right?!

Jeeeez, the walls were so dull looking. Destiny would have a hard time staying awake with this class. She needed something to keep her awake. And aha! Evelyn was a lifesaver!

Hopefully Evelyn wasn't thinking the same thing as her. 'Are you thinking about my grandmother too?' That would be weird..

Her grandmother? She'd never even seen Destiny's grandmother..."Umm, no. I'm not." she snickered, shaking her head and pulling out a, surprisingly coincidental, gray notebook with the usual silver letters of Transfiguration on the front.

"Never mind though. I want to see what the Professor is like before I do anything..." she mumbled the last part, not wanting to the Professor whatshername to hear. Could she hear from all the way over there?

Alexa raised her hand and said, "Well it's when you change something into something else. Or... when you make an inanimate object animated." She knew that was convoluted, but it was HER definition so... hmph.

Raising his hand, Jake continued using the balled up fist of his other hand to wipe the sleep from his eyes. "Ch-changing tttthhings... vuhh-vanishing an'... cuhhh-conjjjurin'?" he tried, saying it as a question. This woman didn't look like she'd respond to badly to a question!answer.

Carter raised his hand. "Transfiguration is to change, or transfigure, something. You can change the appearance of something, or all together vanish it."

She was just taking out her notebook and muggle pen, when she sensed someone sit next to her. She smiled at the person before knowing who it was and then her smile faltered a little as she saw it was Oliver. Miranda waved at him akwardly, and hoped they were not going to be practicing on eachother. He would turn her into a rodent, fo sho.

Miranda raised her hand. "Miss, Transfiguration is when you turn something into what it is not." Errr? "You sort of...change their properties. Like a chair - you can make it walk, when really...it's designed to stand still..." She made a face at the end, knowing that must've sounded...weird.

Georgiana raised her hand, she wasn't entirely sure but why not give a shot? "Transfiguration is the art of turning one form of matter to another." yep, easy answer. She probably looked pretty stupid right now too. But at least she gave it a shot, right?

Hand straight up. In the air. Slight, slight wiggle of fingers, "Transfiguration is changing things. Whether it's their colour, what they look like, or even what they are. It's a kind of magic that rewards creative thinking, because if you're smart enough and have an active imagination you pretty much have no boundaries with it."

Kailey blushed and nodded "Yeah I'm fine it happens to me all the time!" she said laughing and taking her seat.

Arya raised her hand, "Professor, transfiguration is when you transform and object into anothe object into another object or bring it to life."

Oh, Destiny and Evelyn were not thinking the same thing.

Evelyn was thinking something totally different, and Destiny would find out soon enough she supposed, since now the Professor was talking.

Destiny raised her hand high, and moved it around a little bit to get the Professor's attention. 'Transfiguration changes one object into another object.'

People already said that..

Lexi was clearly in a mood about something, he could tell just by looking at her. He simply nodded. Getting her into trouble now would probably not be a good idea.

Lorcan raised his hand. "Professor, it's about changing things. Making them different." That was a rubbish explanation, but it was the best he had.

Anya walked into the classroom a bit nervous, but overall looking forward to it. Her first class consisted of younger students so this was her first class with a wide range of ages in it. She chose a seat on the far side in the front row. Always best to sit in the "learning T"

He felt the Hufflepuff's eyes on him and turned and smirked at her in greeting. He saw the smile falter and smirked some more. Surely... surely they were mates by now.

Meh.

She confused the hell out of him.

"Transfiguration means to change or cause to change in appearance or to become or cause to become more exalted, Professor" Brant said while sticking up his hand.

Katherine sat down excited. She pulled out her quill, ink and notebook waiting to take notes.

He raised his hand, "I'd say that it's the type of magic that can change things, physically of course. Change almost anything into almost anything you want." he said with a slight nod, not really happy with that answer- but whatever.

Thalia sat in the chair of her desk with parchment out in front of her taking notes. What Transfiguration was...she thought. Her hand went up in the air and she took a shot by saying, "Well it's when you transfigure an animal like a rat or something into an object like a goblet," she said. "Changing one thing to another sort," she added. This was still so new to her.

Becca raised her hand and replied, " Transfiguration is the magical alteration of one object/creature into a different object/creature."

Vashti quickly took out her notebook and quill, ready to take notes. Then she raised her hand high to answer the professor's question. "Transfiguration is when you change the outward appearance of an object."

"Partly right," Milly giggled, "but not only inanimate objects into animate ones!" Which would bring her onto her next question!

Did this little fella have a stutter? Mildred smiled sweetly at the boy, and nodded, "yes! Vanishing and conjuring is part of Transfiguration too. Well done, dear."

"Right you are!" Mildred clapped her hands together.


They were all so smart! "Correct, but there are Charms which have similiar outcomes."

"Turning one form of matter into another," Mildred nodded with a sweet smile, "That's a good definition."

"Oooooh, I like that answer!" Mildred literally SHRIEKED with excitement. And bounced on the balls of her feet too. Which resulted in a rather dangerous wobble. "It DOES reward creative thinking! The possibilities are endless!"


Still beaming, Mildred nodded at the next to answers.. glad to have such a smart bunch to teach.

... and then the door she'd closed opened again. Mildred blinked slightly as a young girl walked in and took herself a seat. She was late! That just wouldn't do. If she had late-comers picking and choosing when to arrive she'd never be able to concentrate on her lesson!

"Please make sure you arrive on time, dear," Milly said with a small sigh, flicking her wand and closing the door yet again, "Two points from Ravenclaw for your tardiness."

"NOW, there are different types of Transfiguration. We already had one example.. inanimate to animate. Do you know the others?" She bet they did!

Arya thought hard but could only think of one thing. "Umm, you can change an animal into an object. And I guess if you can do that then you can change them back as well."

Georgiana wasn't quite sure but she decided to try again anyways, "From animate to inanimate?" yeah, totally dumb answer. But she was trying here! Better than remaining silent the entire class perioud, right?

Again, up went the hand, "Self-transfiguration?"

Alexa smiled and raised her hand, "Switching and Vanishing are two types, I believe." she said. She wasn't in the greatest mood, but Transfiguration was already cheering her up a bit.

"Can't you also have inanimate to another inanimate? Like... just changing our desk to a chair?" he asked.

Brant Raised his hand and told the Proffessor. "More advanced types of transfiguration are objects into creatures and self-transfiguration. Professor." Brant seemed pleased with himself while lowering his hand.

"Yes, dear," Mildred smiled at the young girl, "and do you know what that is called? When you change things back?"

"Animate to inanimate, yes! Like changing a rat into a goblet as someone said." Someone HAD said that, hadn't they?

She knew the Head Girl would be smart! "Cross-species Transfiguration is a more advanced type, but you're right!"

"And Self-transfiguration, yes! Again, more advanced, but still correct!"

"ANIMAGI!" Mildred bounced again, clearly excited. "Some wizards and witches can transform themselves into animals! Doesn't that sound FUN!?" She thought so!

"No need to be nervous, young man," Mildred giggled like a silly girl in the direction of the handsome boy who answered, "Conjuration is correct!"


"As is switching! Switching-spells are also considered as Transfiguration, indeed!" Cue more hand clapping. SQUEEEE!!

"You're all so smart!" The Professor gushed happily, beady brown eyes taking in all the faces once more. "Transfiguration is used in conjunction with OTHER subjects too! Like Potions! Can anyone tell me a certain potion which causes transfiguration?"

Kay wrote note down as fast as she could. She only knew of some transfigurations and everyone had already said them all. She sat listening to the class.

Georgie knew this one! "Polyjuice Potion!" she called out excitedly!

"The Polyjuice potion?" He answered, looking up to the professor.

Putting her hand up. "That would be Polyjuice Potion, Professor." Kay said happy to know that answer.

Polyjuice Potion", Avery said. She never made it before, but she ewanted to one day.

"Threre's an aging potion, Professor. Technically it's changing a person..." Kellen's enthusiasm went down a notch. They wouldn't be brewing a potion in Transfiguration, would they?

"Ummm....Untransfiguration?"Arya srugged her shoulders with her awnser, smiling sheepishly. "I didn't know they had diffrent names for each form of transfiguration, though it makes sense now that I think about it."

Adrienne raised her hand. "The Polyjuice Potion changes a person's appearance into that of another person. But it's specific to human transfiguration and it is only a way to temporarily transform yourself. It's also extremely hard to concoct."

"Sir would a disillusionment Charm be a type of Transfiguration" Brant asked feebly.

"Polyjuice potion." she mumbled after every else did. Why was she repeating things again? Ugh. It was starting to annoy herself. Another potion her tutors taught her over the summer, so she was quite familiar with it, yet, this was Transfiguration. Not potions. Unless they were going to be brewing potions in this class, why even bring it up?

Sighing, she listened to everyone speaking, especially the professor. She seemed REALLY happy...

Alexa threw her hand into the air and squirmed a bit in her seat. "The Polyjuice Potion, Professor." she said. It seemed the lady's enthusiasm was contagious.

"Gillyweed is an herb not a potion", Avery corrected her.

Melanie liked this teacher and she'd only known her for a few minutes, during the lesson. She was nice, which a few of the teachers at Hogwarts didn't have going for them. And she was VERY enthusiastic. Not to mention her name was fun to pronounce. Professor Pilliwickle. Hehe.

Melanie's hand shot up in the air as she asked about Transfiguration potions. "A Shrinking Solution is a transfiguring potion." Melanie said, confidently. It made sense... right?

"That's the answer I was looking for!" Mildred said with another smile, "but remember to put your hands up before answering!" She giggled with a playful wiggle of one chubby finger.

"Very good, very good!" She carried on with a giggle, "The Polyjuice Potion DOES cause human transfiguration! I've only tried it the once in my time and wouldn't recommend it though. Awfully uncomfortable form of Transfiguring.."

Was she rambling?

Oooooh. She liked creative answers. And THAT was a nice creative answer! With a giggle and another swish of her wand, a small piece of parchment floated in the direction of the boy.

"Yes, it is temporary.. the effects only lasting for an hour," Mildred informed with a smile and a nod.


SIR?

"Last time I checked, I was a Miss!" Mildred said, giggling nevertheless and completely missing his answer.

ANOTHER nice creative answer! "It would indeed!" Mildred agreed, wiggling excitedly. "The effects of Gillyweed - which is a magical plant, yes - could certainly be considered Transfiguration! Good work, poppet!"

"It seems like you all know a fair bit about Transfiguration!" The last Professor must've been a good one! "I think we're ready to try some out! I hope you all remembered to bring your wands!"

Avery smiled at the proffessor and the girl she corrected, hoping the girl wasn't upset with her for correcting her. Avery placed her wand on her desk, knowing she would need it.

Brant felt horrible "Im sorry miss, Im just so nervous, I didn't want to sound stupid for the Question I asked., I know I offened you, But Im still so courious, Would a disillusionment Charm be a form of Transfiguration.?" He looked down, in shame.

Georgiana blushed, she couldn't believe she forgot to raise her hand. She was just so excited she knew an answer! She quickly dove for her bag and pulled out her wand. NOW she was excited.

This was like, torture. Sweetie? And her attitude...it was worse than the crazy pink cookie healer lady from last term! But, finally, they were going to be doing something with wands. Hurray...

Taking out her wand that was NOT in her sleeve this time, but the side pocket of her bag, she placed it on the desk and covered it slightly with her hands so there was no temptation for anyone to steal it. Since all the Professor's wands had disappeared from last term, she wasn't taking any chances this term...

Kate deflated a bit at this comment. "Potions and I don't really get along...Neither do Herbology and I for that matter." Kate looked sheepishly at the professor. "Sorry for the mix-up."

Allison was sitting near Arya was more ready than ever. She had been looking forward for Transfiguration. Who was she kidding, she had been looking forward to all her classes. Taking out her wand she listened intently to her next instructions.

After all Transfiguration helped turned people and objects into different things, that was extremely cool.

Alexa was nearly bouncing in her seat as she unholstered her wand, a smile spreading across her face. Svensson had taught her a lot last term, but she was hoping that Pilliwickle would teach her even more.

"Thank you, ma'am." Kellen grinned and folded the chocolate frog coupon, tucking it in his back pocket. His owl had a job to do after class. He took out his wand, enthusiasm back up. No potions, only transfiguration. Yes!

Celandine had, after finding the rules posted outside the classroom door, done some serious spellwork in order to be sure that her skirt was.... *Shudder*... past her knee.

She sat listening to the others, keeping her expression politely interested.

So far? She was bored out of her mind AND she had to wear a longer skirt.

Pout.

Of course Destiny remembered her wand. Who would forget something like that? Maybe the Professor..

Ehh, Destiny took out her wand and placed it on the desk.

She was ready!

"Sorry" he responded to the professor with a charming smile, apologizing for not raising his hand. He pulled out his wand and set it on the desk. What an interesting lady. Yes, a little too hyped up for his taste, but she would definitely keep him awake this term.

Kay smiled and was happy the professor liked her answer. She pulled her wand and waited to see what they were going to get to work on.

"There's no reason to be nervous, my love!" Mildred said sweetly, sending a toothy smile in the direction of the boy. Her grin was so big she was slightly worried her false teeth were about to make an escape and had to double check they were in place properly. EEK.

"And although it's a disillusionment CHARM, you are quite correct in thinking it could also be considered Transfiguration. It changes appearance after all." There was always a slight grey area when it came to Transfiguration and Charms, and quite frankly it confused her sometimes.

"Not to worry, dear. It happens to the best of us." Indeed! Mildred herself had once mistaken a tea cosy for a wooly hat! Mistakes were easy to make!

But.. moving on.

"I thought we'd start with a some simple conjuring spells. To get you all warmed up!" Well, she'd just decided that right now. "Are you familiar with any of those?" Another chance to show off their smartness!

"Those are the one's that you conjure something out of thin air," scratching her chin she smiled, "Like if I were hot I'd conjure a fan to fan myself with it."
