A disused room next to the potions classroom has been converted into a potions laboratory. There are several large workstations available, complete with stands and burners for standard size 2 cauldrons and plenty of room to work.

Along the walls at the sides of the room are additional stations holding alembics, distillation trains, calcination equipment, Florence flasks, a large jar of clean glass stirring rods, funnels, empty jars and more -- in short, all the equipment a potioneer would need to do his or her work.

Along the back wall of the class are jars and bottles containing a host of standard potions ingredients. Each container is marked clearly with a parchment label bearing the details of its contents (including the date of expiration), written in Professor Kazimeriz's shaky but legible hand. Several of the larger jars house foul-looking ingredients: there is one jar that appears to be filled with pickled toads, another houses what appear to be large eyeballs from some creature in pale blue syrup, and still others seem to contain the visceral organs of animals - rat spleens, newt tails (which are still wriggling in the jar), and whole flobberworms. One jar of some sort of greenish sap is bubbling lazily, and another opaque bottle keeps trembling, clinking against the others.

There is also a large cabinet that has been triple-locked and charmed. Through the unbreakable glass front of the cabinet, you can see vials, jars, bottles of various size, shape and contents. These are the Professor's private stores. You must receive assistance from the professor to access these ingredients, as all the poisons, rare items like unicorn parts and truly dangerous ingredients in the lab -- including dangerous potions such as veritaserum and amortentia-- are housed in this cabinet.

There is a large chalkboard at the front of the classroom near the Professor's sturdy mahogany desk. On it reads this note:

HAVE A PLAN and WORK AT YOUR OWN LEVEL. Creativity is definitely encouraged in this lab, but please do not just slap ingredients together without knowing the magical theory behind what you are doing. I expect all students to work at their level and if you have questions, please ask the professor. I am always present when this lab is open.
WASTE NOT, WANT NOT. Many of the ingredients in this lab are quite costly. Use them with discretion.
DANGEROUS INGREDIENTS: Many of the more dangerous or expensive ingredients in the lab are in the professor's private stores. On approval, the professor will obtain any of the necessary dangerous ingredients from the storage cabinet for your use.
COMPOUND POTIONS: Only NEWT levels students with prior approval from the professor may work on compound potions in this lab, to ensure that you properly understand the magical theory behind them. If you are unsure if you are attempting a compound potion, please ask. Those who are found to be in violation of this or any rule will be subject to disciplinary action.

ooc notes: Come on in and get creative!

This is an independent lab, NOT potions class... this is the place to let your character practice potions, do labwork, and experiment. For the purposes of the RP please presume that Professor Kazimeriz is in the room at all times unless I specify otherwise. Obviously, I am not really here at all times, but I will be monitoring this thread closely throughout the term and will do my best to respond to posts directed toward Professor Kazimeriz quickly and efficiently.

Please RP responsibly! I'm cool OOC with potions-gone-wrong-RPs (accidentally blowing up cauldrons and such-- stuff happens in a lab!) but just make sure that you are ready to face the consequences IC for any actions you take or mistakes your charrie makes. For instance, if you have a vat of lethal poison explode all over you, it is quite possible your character WILL die, and if you are irresponsible IC, expect Kazimeriz to react accordingly. Please exercise good sense and remember to follow the site rules at all times.

Also, if your character is addressing the professor or needs attention, please put PROFESSOR KAZIMERIZ in your subject line for your post, just so I don't accidentally miss it.

Phyre glanced at Violet as she - was it a grunt....? She didn't know, and didn't very much care. This was karma, she believed. If only she could fulfill her promise of drying her slimy hands on her hair... But her gaze held no anger; not when things were turning around.

Kazimeriz met Violet's glare with a level gaze. "Miss Black and Mr. Trigwell. Since it seems Miss Riddle has a taste for belligerence, I will not cause her dawdling to waste any more of your precious study time. You are both excused." He did not take his eyes off the girl.

He levitated cleaning supplies over to the workstation, and then cast a sticking charm on her feet so she could not run from the room. "You will clean up this workstation... but now, the only time you waste will be your own." He turned away from the mute child.

"How is Mr. Pryce managing, Mr. Upstead?" he asked casually.

Riddle had crossed the wrooooong professor. She would learn.

Sighing Kay was glad not having to walk alone. "Ok, I'm glad your coming." Kay said as they waited for Phyre. She didn't want her walking alone, things were getting to wierd in the castle.

Violet rolled her eyes. She tried to say Im not scared of you, but she still couldn't talk. She picked up a cleaning supply and had no idea what to do. My maids do this work!! thought Violet. She got a piece of parchment and and wrote: "What am I supposed to do? By the way Im not scared of you!!"

Tiberius sat on the floor, staring up at the massive book and wondering how he was supposed to manage. His wand was the length of his entire arm at this point...

Reaching down, Jake lifted Tibi with surprising strength for his slight build, and boosted him carefully up. "D-d-do you nnneed help... sssorting the pppotion?"

Even as he held Tibi up, Jake's eye was caught by that girl who was... irksome. Jake had, naturally, been eavesdropping on what had been going on, and he stared intently at the parchment she wrote on. Of course, the whole reading thing was hard for him.

Tibi squinted his eyes shut tight and held his breath as Jake lifted him. Grimacing as he reached forward for the book, Tiberius pulling it forward and, unable to properly grasp it, felt it slip through his hands and fall too the ground.

"Uh, I do think I'm going to need more help," Tibi squeaked, looking down at the ground.

"Like, actually reaching my cauldron."

Keeley sighed, walking back into the murky potions lab. She had left her sketchpad on her workstation. Typical airheadedness. Pushing back a strand of bright blue hair, she walked to the table she had been using, where she found some Hufflepuff she didn't know and- a reeeeeeally shruken boy in her house and year who she had never really talked to. Grabbing her prized possesion, she approached the two, hesitently asking, "Um, do you guys need any help?"

Jake watched as the book fell, and he had to hold himself back from reaching out to catch it, since that would mean he might let go of Tibi. He was strong, but not quite there yet.

Hearing what his best friend said, Jake nodded and dragged a stool towards him with his foot, positioning it in front of the boy's cauldron.

"Hhhere," he said, setting Tibi down so he was standing up on it. "B-be careful."

Keeley pushed a lock of curly, dirty blonde hair out of her fae, wishing that it wasn't quite so curly. Just barely hearing little, action figure sized Tibi, she noddd, giving up. But hey, people couldn't say that she didn't try to be nice. "Well, if you're sure..." To the door! And with a flip of her frizzy mess of hair, she was gone.

Alessia walked into the potions lab and looked around. "Students... Professor Kazimeriz... he's..." Unresponsive?... unconscious?... "He won't be returning to the potions lab... I..." She choked up and covered her mouth. When she was able to speak again she said "I am here to close up the lab... let me know if you need to restore... anything and please file out." She said and waited by the door.

Jake froze as he looked up at Lupa, and then down at Tibi. No way was he leaving until Tibi was better. He had nowhere else to go either, now he was totally feared by some students and hated by his favourite professors. Probably including Lupa.

Lawson was so right. This was HIS fault.

Tiberius had found it. The potion he needed to brew to fix himself! Running his finger down the page, he made note of all the materials he'd need, jumped down off the stool again (it was high up!) and toddled over to the cabinet, thankful to find most things on low shelves. He would... handle the dropped bottle of newt tails later...

Returning, ingredients stuffed in pockets and the crooks of his arms, he looked over at Jake. Tibi was going to do this by himself if at all possible. Scaling the stool like a small mountain, Tibi tried to keep all the ingredients on his person. Wheezing when he got back on the stool, he set them out before him and looked over the potion.

Instructions

1. Bring 200mL water to a rolling boil.

4. Mince fluxweed and separate into 1 dram piles.
5. Add fluxweed to the potion, one dram at a time, stirring counterclockwise between each addition.
6. Allow to simmer while the next ingredient is prepared.
7. Crush four large butterfly wings with mortar and pestal.
8. Add crushed wings, and stir 10x alternating between counterclockwise and clockwise, beginning with counterclockwise.
9. Return to boil. Potion should turn a vibrant emerald color.
10. Once color turns, add one spoonful flobberworm mucus and stir briskly for 2 minutes.
11. Reduce heat and let simmer 30 minutes.
12. Potion should thicken and darken in color.
13. Let cool.

Tiberius was relieved to see that the bucket of water from before was still on the work station. Kneeling on the stool, he leaned over and reached into the bucket. But couldn't reach. Grunting, Tiberius got to his feet on the stool, and leaned into the bucket, scooping out the water needed and depositing it in the bucket.

Lowering himself shakily back to his knees, Tiberius shook his now wet sleeve up past his elbow. Flame heating the water, Tiberius double checked the measurement of pomegranate juice and measured out the fluxweed that he would need to cut.

As he heard the cauldron bubble, Tiberius grabbed his stirring rod and leaned precariously over the cauldron. It was awkward to hold the vial in his tiny hand on its own, so he placed the rod back down, and used both hands to tilt the vial over the cauldron, pouring in the juice. Grabbing the rod quickly, he let the vial clatter to the tabletop. He stirred clockwise quickly, hoping that stirring after instead of during wasn't terrible.

Reducing the heat, he set to mincing the fluxweed, the knife that once felt far too small now too large for his hand. His cuts were more precise than before, but still, his control was lacking.

And then someone came in.

The boy looked at her, terrified of being small and squeaky forever, swimming in his clothes. "Please?"
