A disused room next to the potions classroom has been converted into a potions laboratory. There are several large workstations available, complete with stands and burners for standard size 2 cauldrons and plenty of room to work.

Along the walls at the sides of the room are additional stations holding alembics, distillation trains, calcination equipment, Florence flasks, a large jar of clean glass stirring rods, funnels, empty jars and more -- in short, all the equipment a potioneer would need to do his or her work.

Along the back wall of the class are jars and bottles containing a host of standard potions ingredients. Each container is marked clearly with a parchment label bearing the details of its contents (including the date of expiration), written in Professor Kazimeriz's shaky but legible hand. Several of the larger jars house foul-looking ingredients: there is one jar that appears to be filled with pickled toads, another houses what appear to be large eyeballs from some creature in pale blue syrup, and still others seem to contain the visceral organs of animals - rat spleens, newt tails (which are still wriggling in the jar), and whole flobberworms. One jar of some sort of greenish sap is bubbling lazily, and another opaque bottle keeps trembling, clinking against the others.

There is also a large cabinet that has been triple-locked and charmed. Through the unbreakable glass front of the cabinet, you can see vials, jars, bottles of various size, shape and contents. These are the Professor's private stores. You must receive assistance from the professor to access these ingredients, as all the poisons, rare items like unicorn parts and truly dangerous ingredients in the lab -- including dangerous potions such as veritaserum and amortentia-- are housed in this cabinet.

There is a large chalkboard at the front of the classroom near the Professor's sturdy mahogany desk. On it reads this note:

HAVE A PLAN and WORK AT YOUR OWN LEVEL. Creativity is definitely encouraged in this lab, but please do not just slap ingredients together without knowing the magical theory behind what you are doing. I expect all students to work at their level and if you have questions, please ask the professor. I am always present when this lab is open.
WASTE NOT, WANT NOT. Many of the ingredients in this lab are quite costly. Use them with discretion.
DANGEROUS INGREDIENTS: Many of the more dangerous or expensive ingredients in the lab are in the professor's private stores. On approval, the professor will obtain any of the necessary dangerous ingredients from the storage cabinet for your use.
COMPOUND POTIONS: Only NEWT levels students with prior approval from the professor may work on compound potions in this lab, to ensure that you properly understand the magical theory behind them. If you are unsure if you are attempting a compound potion, please ask. Those who are found to be in violation of this or any rule will be subject to disciplinary action.

ooc notes: Come on in and get creative!

This is an independent lab, NOT potions class... this is the place to let your character practice potions, do labwork, and experiment. For the purposes of the RP please presume that Professor Kazimeriz is in the room at all times unless I specify otherwise. Obviously, I am not really here at all times, but I will be monitoring this thread closely throughout the term and will do my best to respond to posts directed toward Professor Kazimeriz quickly and efficiently.

Please RP responsibly! I'm cool OOC with potions-gone-wrong-RPs (accidentally blowing up cauldrons and such-- stuff happens in a lab!) but just make sure that you are ready to face the consequences IC for any actions you take or mistakes your charrie makes. For instance, if you have a vat of lethal poison explode all over you, it is quite possible your character WILL die, and if you are irresponsible IC, expect Kazimeriz to react accordingly. Please exercise good sense and remember to follow the site rules at all times.

Also, if your character is addressing the professor or needs attention, please put PROFESSOR KAZIMERIZ in your subject line for your post, just so I don't accidentally miss it.

Phyre's eyes widened; Professor Kaz wouldn't fall for that, would he!? She had been all but sleeping! And it wasn't her hands that distinctly smelled of gallbladder, that were wrinkled and stinging from the work. Surely, he wouldn't believe one word that came from Violet's mouth. So, she didn't even speak up, but continued to stare at the Professor. She believed in him...

"Yes, Professor." Kay sadly went to the back of the room and got the dried beetles and a lancet. She walked up to a work station, put the container of dried beetles on it. Her went back to the back of the room to get a glass container to put the eyes in. Picking up the first beetle, she hears Violet fighting with Phyre. Shaking her head to takes out the first set of eyes and put them in the glass container. Looking up she sees Rex and Nocletta getting their beetles and went back to her work. When they were done Kay was going to make sure that the Professor knew it was her fault that this all started.

Nicoletta walked over to the shelf and picked up a glass jar full of beetles. She looked around for a lancet. Lancet, lancet..... wait! what is a lancet? she thought. Isn't it the shiney pokey thing? She looked around befpre finding something that resembled her weak discription. She picked up the glass jar and the pokey thing and took a seat by Kay. She pulled one beetle out of the jar and cringed at it. She took the lancet and carefully cut around the eye, trying not to squirt bug juice on her. The eye popped out and Nicoletta placed it in a bowl. One down, nine hundred ninety nine to go.

Nicoletta carved around the other eyeball and placed it in the bowl. She set the dead bug off to the side. She picked up another beetle and did its eyes as well. 4 done...... 6 done....... 8 done...... 10 done......

Kay looked at Rex and Nicoletta. See that they are doning well she looks at her own. Did she have 12 done? Kay picked up another beetle and looked at it. "Sorry little bug." Kay said softly. She took the Lancet and took out another eye. This was what she thought as fun. She turned to watch Violet and Phyre for a minute and was sorry that Phyre had gotten hurt.

"Im sorry. If I hadn't asked you to come you wouldn't be here right now." Kay said taking out another eye. "Things would have been fine if Violet wouldn't have started fighting." She said watching Violet. "But in the end, It was my fault. I guess everyone to come. I should have stop Phyre and then know one would be here right now." Kay said looking At Rex. "I have never had a dentention."

Violet who still had her eyes on Professor Kazimeriz said out of the corner of her mouth to Rex. "You'll get used to detention soon enough, and psh yeah I doubt we'll have the same story."

Phyre looked down guiltily, taking the moment of silence to wring out another gallbladder. Her hands were hurting. If she hadn't defended herself, then they wouldn't be here... And only Violet would be in trouble... She sighed and put the gallbladder down, taking a second to wring out in pure anger. She was so stupid.... Violet was completely right; at least, about her intelligence levels.

For a second before the Professor continued explaining she should try it on a seedling she had felt a sense of adrenaline thinking she might get to try it on herself but alas it was not to be, she have to age the manual way.

This is where time went by to quickly in her opinion. What she thought had been mere seconds turned out to be a few minutes as she examined each pot for a possible ~~victim~~ candidate.

Nah, too frail looking what if she hurt it. Nope...this one was pretty and looked like it wanted to live in the moments.....eeeeeh this one was too green?

It seemed there was an excuse for every plant until she realized that she was just stalling. But really? Who wouldn't? One of the first potions and whatnot and this was the test-this is what it all came down to.

Spying a small little barely sprouted seedling, she checked to make sure it wasn't a blooming daisy and then placed it front and center. Uncorking her phial, she stared at it for a minute.

It was now or never....tilting the bottle she watched in slow motion as one single drop sky-dived to its destination, and she scrunched her eyes shut as she sang in her head.Grow, baby,grow.

Upon contact with the potion, the plant immediately sprouted, then turned to seed, as though in time-lapse. Kazimeriz smiled. "Excellent work, Miss Erised. It is just as it should be." He nodded at the girl. "In fact, I would ask that you bottle your entire lot of potion and take it to the Herbology professor with our compliments; I happen to know that it is of some use to her." He turned, then turned back. "Oh... and please choose one of the prettier bottles, as it is a gift. There are two points in it for you if you come back and tell me of her response." He tipped her a tiny wink, then moved on.

Removing a small bottle of some of the best quality cauldron cure he'd been able to find from his bag (the bottle was an odd shimmery silver colour, real sparkly, with a basic silhouette of a cauldron on the front), Jake set it aside, ready to use in a second.

For the meanwhile, the boy took his cauldron to the sink, and held it upside down for the excess potion to drip out. Most of it had gone into the phial anyway. Whilst he was there, Jake filled the cauldron with hot water, emptied it, cool water, emptied it, and then repeated the process before using his own cleaning brush from the same cleaning kit the cure had come from to scrub away any leftover stuff. After a quick rinse again, Jake lugged the cauldron back to his workstation, where he inspected the cauldron for any icky mess, or cracks or holes yada yada yada, before using a large dry, clean rag to dry it out.

It was painful to rub the cauldron salve over the inside of his cauldron after he'd taken all those pains to clean it, but it was necessary, and Jake used a new rag (he realised he'd have to wash aaaaaaall of this the muggle way later, and cursed his magical inability) to rub the salve over every square centimetre of the inside of the cauldron, working his way up from the bottom.

He turned the bunsen burner back on and set the cauldron on the stand above it, watching closely.

As he tidied his stuff up, Jake couldn't help but finally hear that Slytherin girl AGAIN, and he had to work hard not to lose his temper with her. MAN, she was making his ears hurt.

"Sir," Jake spoke up, warily this time. "After th-this I can luhh-leave and ggget out of your way, bbbut if I c-can help out in hhhhere, with cccleaning cccauldrons or wwwhatever, I c-c-can. Nnnot for pppoints. I juhh-just wwwant to help. Tttrying to bbbe good and all."

That way, Jake could pass the time and do a good deed whilst he was at it. Since he was becoming good and all.

"I would be most appreciative if you would like to stay, Mr. Upstead. Perhaps you could help our tiny little Mr. Pryce to get his potion sorted. Or at least you could ensure that he is not squashed like a billywig as he retrieves his materials, and perhaps you could help the wee lad onto his stool?" Kazimeriz smirked.

"Evans and Davis, you are free to go." he said shortly. "Miss Black, you may cease this chore, but I ask that you stay for the moment. Riddle and Trigwell, you will finish removing the beetle eyes and clean up this workstation, and then the four of us are going to be taking a small field trip." He glanced at Upstead and Pryce. "I trust no shenanigans will take place in this lab in my absence."

Kay looked up at the Professor. She didn't understand why she could leave. "Sir?" She started then looked at Violet who couldn't talk for the first time all day. "I don't understand. I'm not done with what you want done and It was my fault we were all there. If I hadn't asked them all to come none of this would not have happened." She said looking at the Professor to see what to do. Leaving just didn't sound right. Knowing that she would have to do what the Professor said. She looked at Rex and couldn't even smile, knowning that He would be mad that the Professor didn't listen to him.

"Will dddo, sir," Jake nodded, as the steam rising from his potion stopped. That meant it was nice and cured, and Jake packed almost all of his stuff away, save the potion and his wand, and let the cauldron cool down. It would be fine for a while, he was still in the room and stuff.

He went over to where Tibi was, observing the... well... shortness of him. He'd help the kid, sure, but he wouldn't do anything for him. This was Kazi's lesson to Tibi... and Jake was really REALLY starting to respect the man.

"Need a hhhand?" he asked the boy, a friendly smile on his face.

Sigh... He did still wish it was him who'd done what Tibi had done, so then Jake's best friend wouldn't have to suffer.

Hearing Kazi say he was going to leave, Jake looked up, surprised. Again?

"Yuhh-you can tttrust me, sssir," the boy reassured the old man. This responsibility thing was IMMENSE.

Ivory hid behind her small fingers and resisted the urge to peak until she heard the Professor's voice.

Excellent? Her?

Finally opening her eyes, she saw that the plant had sprouted and then turned to seed. Grinning from ear to ear, Ivory couldn't resist the tiniest of little jigs before turning back to the Professor and nodding her head enthusiastically. Two points! She was totally on that.

"Sure Professor, I'll get right on it."

Heading towards the back, she searched the Potion stores for the prettiest bottle. She'd met the Bunz already and knew she was quite fond of the color pink.

Pink, pink, pink, pink.

Aha! Bingo!

Holding the pink bottle up triumphantly, she took it back to her work station and commenced carefully pouring all her potion phials full of aging potion into the bottle.

Holding it up the light now that it was nice full and corked, she placed it aside and began to clean up her workstation and made sure to clean out the phials that weren't needed anymore.

Leaving her workstation as clean as when she first arrived, she made her way to the door first stopping in front of the Professor one last time.

"Thanks Professor Kazimeriz, I really appreciate your help!" Smiling shyly, she continued. "Now I can do more than just stir!"

Walking out the door, she gave him a little wave and skipped her way out, promising she'd be right back.

Or at least you could ensure that he is not squashed like a billywig as he retrieves his materials, and perhaps you could help the wee lad onto his stool?" Kazimeriz smirked.

Kazimeriz returned to the workstation with the Troublemakers. "Mr. Trigwell, I do not look to my students for recommendations on discipline." he glared at the boy. "Watch your tongue."

He turned to the Riddle. "Besides, Miss Riddle is nothing like the infamous Thomas Marvolo Riddle who shares her surname. Thomas was the epitome of a Slytherin, intelligent and very, very shrewd. He would never think to do something as foolish as to cast on another student with witnesses around; he would never get caught, and he certainly would not mistake old age for stupidity or deafness. No, Miss Riddle, you are nothing like the man who shares your surname. You simply do not measure up." He smirked back at the girl, meeting her eyes as he wandlessly cast langlock on her.

"Evans and Davis, you are free to go." he said shortly. "Miss Black, you may cease this chore, but I ask that you stay for the moment. Riddle and Trigwell, you will finish removing the beetle eyes and clean up this workstation, and then the four of us are going to be taking a small field trip." He glanced at Upstead and Pryce. "I trust no shenanigans will take place in this lab in my absence."

" Ok,. I am ready to go" Rex told the professor.

Violet tried to talkback but couldn't talk. She jumped up and down trying to talk. She walked back over to the table with the beetle eyes and looked at Rex to do the job. Im not going to do this crap! she thought. She glared at Professor Kazmeriz.

Nicoletta gathered her bag and nodded her head. "Thank you sir," she washed off the lancet using the sink in the back and put it away on it's proper shelf. Then, taking off to somewhere else in the castle.

Violet gave Rex a look that said good boy. She looked down at her nails which were currently painted black and she didn't want them to get chipped. She went back to one of her favorite things: Glaring at Kazimeriz. She glared and gave him the evil eye.

Sapphyre nodded, staring up at the Professor still and wondering what could possibly be going through his old mind. It had to be just as sharp as his personality, though, and she was grateful for that; if he was the type to fall for Violet's blatant lies, she would probably have been expelled by now. "Yes, sir," she replied, and respect for him as Violet found herself unable to speak.

Win. Her eye was blackened, her hands covered in gallbladder slime, her pride greatly damaged, and her record tarnished, but it was a win, no matter how she looked at it. Definitely.
