A disused room next to the potions classroom has been converted into a potions laboratory. There are several large workstations available, complete with stands and burners for standard size 2 cauldrons and plenty of room to work.

Along the walls at the sides of the room are additional stations holding alembics, distillation trains, calcination equipment, Florence flasks, a large jar of clean glass stirring rods, funnels, empty jars and more -- in short, all the equipment a potioneer would need to do his or her work.

Along the back wall of the class are jars and bottles containing a host of standard potions ingredients. Each container is marked clearly with a parchment label bearing the details of its contents (including the date of expiration), written in Professor Kazimeriz's shaky but legible hand. Several of the larger jars house foul-looking ingredients: there is one jar that appears to be filled with pickled toads, another houses what appear to be large eyeballs from some creature in pale blue syrup, and still others seem to contain the visceral organs of animals - rat spleens, newt tails (which are still wriggling in the jar), and whole flobberworms. One jar of some sort of greenish sap is bubbling lazily, and another opaque bottle keeps trembling, clinking against the others.

There is also a large cabinet that has been triple-locked and charmed. Through the unbreakable glass front of the cabinet, you can see vials, jars, bottles of various size, shape and contents. These are the Professor's private stores. You must receive assistance from the professor to access these ingredients, as all the poisons, rare items like unicorn parts and truly dangerous ingredients in the lab -- including dangerous potions such as veritaserum and amortentia-- are housed in this cabinet.

There is a large chalkboard at the front of the classroom near the Professor's sturdy mahogany desk. On it reads this note:

HAVE A PLAN and WORK AT YOUR OWN LEVEL. Creativity is definitely encouraged in this lab, but please do not just slap ingredients together without knowing the magical theory behind what you are doing. I expect all students to work at their level and if you have questions, please ask the professor. I am always present when this lab is open.
WASTE NOT, WANT NOT. Many of the ingredients in this lab are quite costly. Use them with discretion.
DANGEROUS INGREDIENTS: Many of the more dangerous or expensive ingredients in the lab are in the professor's private stores. On approval, the professor will obtain any of the necessary dangerous ingredients from the storage cabinet for your use.
COMPOUND POTIONS: Only NEWT levels students with prior approval from the professor may work on compound potions in this lab, to ensure that you properly understand the magical theory behind them. If you are unsure if you are attempting a compound potion, please ask. Those who are found to be in violation of this or any rule will be subject to disciplinary action.

ooc notes: Come on in and get creative!

This is an independent lab, NOT potions class... this is the place to let your character practice potions, do labwork, and experiment. For the purposes of the RP please presume that Professor Kazimeriz is in the room at all times unless I specify otherwise. Obviously, I am not really here at all times, but I will be monitoring this thread closely throughout the term and will do my best to respond to posts directed toward Professor Kazimeriz quickly and efficiently.

Please RP responsibly! I'm cool OOC with potions-gone-wrong-RPs (accidentally blowing up cauldrons and such-- stuff happens in a lab!) but just make sure that you are ready to face the consequences IC for any actions you take or mistakes your charrie makes. For instance, if you have a vat of lethal poison explode all over you, it is quite possible your character WILL die, and if you are irresponsible IC, expect Kazimeriz to react accordingly. Please exercise good sense and remember to follow the site rules at all times.

Also, if your character is addressing the professor or needs attention, please put PROFESSOR KAZIMERIZ in your subject line for your post, just so I don't accidentally miss it.

As he was regarding the other kids, Jake got the glare and he blinked in confusion. He was about to wonder what he was supposed to have done, and then he recognised the girl. The one who was oh-so-uppity and too good for Hogwarts and the students attending.

However, Jake showed none of his dislike on his face as he continued staring, until Kazi spoke again.

Jake smiled at the praise from Kazi. And then... his smile widened into a smirk as he heard of the punishment those two were getting.

Bwahahaha.

Serves her right, glaring like that.

Looking down at the fudge in his hand, Jake waited another moment, before realisin he didn't really want Kazi mad at him today. Without another thought he popped it into his hand, chewwwwwed it up, and swallowed.

It was fudge, and Jake expected a sugar rush rather than a fever, but no... there it was. The cold dungeons felt even colder, and Jake shivvered and wrapped his arms around himself. Swallowing a lump in his throat, Jake found himself breathing a little faster than usual and broke out in a sweat; he could feel his blond hair sticking to his forehead.

Hating the feeling, Jake took a clean ladle and poured some of his now cool potion into a phial... and drank it up straight away. The boy wiped the back of his arm across his head and gulped.

And waited...

and waited...

He was pretty sure it wasn't supposed to take this long; certain, in fact, and his face fell, but even as he made to tell Kazi it wasn't working, his head cleared and he could think straight. It was like when Ashford 'gave' him the final pepper-up potion when he had pneumonia, though... you know... different.

Then it STOPPED feeling so cold, except his head, but once he used his sleeve to wipe the sweat away, it was all good. Jake looked down at the rest of the potion that was in the potion, and he grinned.

"It wuhh-worked!" he told the man, a surprised yet relieved look on his face. "It t-t-took a little wwwhile... but it duhh-did!"

Even as he spoke, the quill he had wrote what Jake was saying.

It WORKED.

Jake positively BEAMED. He had done a potion okay, and he was getting more and more praise from Kazi.

He could soooooo get used to this.

Not replying just yet, Jake began to quickly but efficiently ladle the rest of the cauldron's contents into a bigger phial, being sure not to spill any and that the phial was totally empty.

He had a roll of muggle sticky labels, and he clumsily wrote his name and year and the name of the potion on one of them (well, in the end it was two... his handwriting was so large and clumsy) and stuck them on the phial, corked it, and went to put it up on the shelf, making sure the outside of it was clean, too.

Returning to his cauldron, Jake stared at it for a moment, massaging his left hand, his wand hand, which was aching. He bit his lip and looked at Kazi. "Is thuhh-there a wwway I can ccclean the potion ssssafely without mmmagic? Like, bbbecause the ssssink isn't very suhh-safe for cccleaning in pppotions, usually..."

Because he was tired, and he had homework to do, and didn't have time to perfect another spell.

Kay stood in the door way of the lab. She looked around to see who was in there. See saw Jake and looked down to the floor. She did want her team to know she was in hot water with a Professor. Maybe she should just tell the Professor want was going on and tell him it was her fault. When everyone else could go. She didn't want enough one to do this because of her. "Professor, Do you want all of us to help them? Or is there something else you need done." Kay asked almost not loud enough for him to hear. Kay like the Professor, well she like all of her Professor. She didn't want them mad at her. She should have stopped the fight but couldn't remember really seen it. She only knew that it was her fault that it had all started. She want to get information about want was going on in the school. But the more she found out the more she seemed to be forget or spacing out. She had to talk to the Professor alone.

"Yes, Professor," Sapphyre said, bowing her head respectfully. At least he agreed that Violet was the most un-cunning person to be sorted into Slytherin.

Sapphyre raised an eyebrow, but nonetheless waved Violet off. "A person who doesn't want to end up in heaps more trouble than it's worth eww-ing and squealing over? And besides, this is Potions, which I, for one, enjoy. You can't tell me that you enjoy handling rat tails or newt eyes, either. Just get the bottles. I'm not even going to argue with you about this; if you're stooping to such low insults, you are far less knowledgeable than I am."

Violet said nothing and grabbed the bottles. "When I had detention at Muggle schools are punsishment never involved this crap." she said.

"Muggle school?" Sapphyre asked, her eyebrow still raised. She slid the container, now open, over to Violet. Kay smiled when she heard what the two were talking about. She was very proud of Phyre and her not yelling at Violet. Kay didn't smile thou. Kay should have stood up for Phyre in the kitchens. Kay didn't know how it all got so out of hand.

Without yelling Kay talk to Violet. "Will you just stop. We are here because we did something wrong. Just get over it and do as Professor asked. Is that so hard?" "I had to live with a muggle family one year. For personal reasons. They sent me to a muggle school because I was bad at their house so when I was there I got detention every week or everyday." she responded. "When the personal problems were over I went back home and also had a tutor." She then grabbed a chair and put her feet on the table.

"Shut up Sapphyre ask anyone I ever knew and they got tricked by me at least five times." said Violet. Then she picked one up to hand to Sapphyre and quickly dropped it and jumped back. "Its so disgusting!!" she yelled.

"Shut up Sapphyre ask anyone I ever knew and they got tricked by me at least five times." said Violet. Then she picked one up to hand to Sapphyre and quickly dropped it and jumped back. "Its so disgusting!!" she yelled.

She rolled her eyes again and wiped her nose. Eww... Her hands smelled nasty. Oh well. Soap and water would change that later. "Oh, Merlin, that's clever of you," she said sardonically, watching as the gallbladder flop to the floor before it reached her hand. "It's an organ, luv," she drawled. "What did you expect? Pick it up; we can't waste anything." She grabbed one from the container and squeezed it out, placiing it in the small pile of gallbladders she had already squeezed. She bottom of the bottle was only barely covered with the liquid. This would be a long day.

Violet groaned. "Oh come on why do I have to do this? I so wish one of my maids could come to Hogwarts." she said picking one up while flinching and handing it to Sapphyre.

"You have to do this because you decided to jinx me," Phyre replied without looking up, taking the organ and squeezing it out. Immediately, she held it out for another. She wanted to get his over with. "No maid would be able to do your detention work for you, whether or not you were allowed to bring one along. That's rather unnecessary, anyway, seeing as Hogwarts has the house elves operating it."

Kay stood and listened to the two girls. She knew that Phyre was right about Violet but didn't want to get in the middle of it here in the Lab. Though she was smiling at what they were saying. She finely looked up to see what the Professor was doing. He seemed to be talking to Jake. So she waited.

Nicoletta entered the lab as quietly as possible. She stood still and kept her mouth shut. Usually that works if you're in trouble. Don't talk unless you're spoken to. In this case, it happened to mean 'shut it and ignore violet so kaz doesn't kill you'. Yup, lovely situation.
