| | Potions Class Three:
The sharp smell of hot metal cauldrons filled with malodorous contents mingle with the cool, musty smell of dungeon air, marrying to create that peculiar scent that veteran Hogwarts students immediately recognize as Eau de Potions Classroom. Buried deep within the castle's underbelly, the potions classroom is dim and dank, lit only by the flicker of candle-laden chandeliers and the dim blue flames that sit beneath the cauldrons at the front of the class. If you were to touch the bare stone walls, and it is not recommended that you do, your hand would come back to you lightly coated with an unpleasant cold slime-- the accumulation of years of potion vapors, combined with dust and mildew and condensation and things you'd probably rather not think about (much less actually have on your skin).
The room houses several large obsidian workstations, each set with two wooden stools to encourage the students to work in pairs. Each workstation has ample room for the students to set up their cauldrons and other equipment, and the walls are lined with jars and bottles containing all sorts of potions supplies, from friendly-looking dried flowers to jars of bulging eyeballs and entrails. One contains something that vaguely looks like a pickled hand, and it pulses as it floats, as though waving at the students.
Each container is labeled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom there is a lectern and a desk with the professor's chair. There is also a workstation with a cauldron and several bottles and jars. Behind it, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions: Quote: POTIONS PERIOD THREE: COMBINED CLASS
(Basic, O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. Students)
Please be seated. The professor will be with you momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. Please set up your workstations, inspecting your cauldrons and preparing your equipment. N.E.W.T. level students, please set up your workstation and then assist any lower class students as necessary. I expect all students will be set up and ready to work upon my arrival without exception.
--Professor Kazimeriz
Class Synopsis Post 54: The professor has set a puzzle for the class to solve. Use your analytical skills to determine what ingredient is missing from your potion and PM me the answer! Post 59 Those who are solving the puzzle receive a cauldron embossed with their house crest and name as a reward. Then students are to brew a wit-sharpening potion. Jump on in at any time, solving the puzzle and brewing the potion! ooc: Come on in and get set up! Feel free to talk amongst yourselves as you RP setting up to work (just don't turn this into a 'chat thread', or I will delete your posts without warning). Please feel free to RP helping each other set up as necessary. Remember: Have fun! Be creative! and Feel free to PM me with questions, as always. Xana |

Marie jumped when she heard the door bang. She looked uo to see Kazi looking all mean and crazy. She wasn't sure if she should answer or just sit there and hope he didn't see her.
Deciding to answer she raised her hand and said, "Sir, every great potioneer must not only know their ingredients but must know what they do and what affects them." Yes, it was better to answer, that way he wouldn't think she wasn't paying attention.

Josh was hairy here and there plus he was stinking. However he was still at this class. Why? Maybe he was hoping for a good new impression but on the other hand he doubted he could make in a crowded class of potions. *sigh* There was no turning back.
Aha! Maybe he could run away before the professor should come, with this thought, paying extra attention not to be spotted which was impossible because of the odor he had he stepped towards the door and...
He thought he was going to die as the crazy Kazi man banged inside. WHOA! and Darn! 'Quick! Quick! Back to the working station'. And hopefully he managed it back to his working station as he asked about the qualities of a potioneer. The Gryffindor boy snorted at the question and murmured to himself ''He needs to be a psycho, obviously''

Bella looked down at her couldron and frowned, she had already set it up. Sighing she began to put it away as the Professor spoke. She thought as she finished putting it away. "Professor does a good potioneer, first must truely know what there brewing?" She asked as a guess.
She looked around as she listened to the other students answering.

| Double Agent Stamps! What kind of skills should a good potioner have? Why do teachers always ask these questions. I don't know what skills a good potioner should have. I just thought you needed to know how to brew a potion. We've already covered knowing your ingredients and making sure that they are fresh. I found out the hard way about not mixing ingredients together before adding them to the potion when the directions didn't say to do it. What else is there? Sidney raises her hand anyway. "A potioner should have the skill to brew a potion without causing her cauldron to blow up. I guess I mean you should know and follow the rules of potion brewing and follow the directions to the letter." Bad answer Sidney, really bad. |

She looked around as she listened to the other students answering. "Two points for effort, though that is not necessarily so. To be specific, while you must certainly know your intent when brewing, it is possible to not know what it is that you need precisely. A good example of this would be when brewing an antidote to a potion containing mysterious ingredients. While most times we can discern the ingredients of a potion simply by casting SpeRevelio, there are potions -- usually poisons or potions with nefarious or even dark intentions -- which have been brewed in such a way as to hide an important missing ingredient from this spell. Without knowledge of everything in the cauldron, you cannot properly devise an antidote to such potions. But we will get into that a little later."

"Now then... Today's lesson will be a little bit different, in that you are given a challenge. On the counter in the back of the room, you will notice small cauldrons." He gestured to the rear counter. On it were many cauldrons, set into four distinct groups. Each one was covered with a lid, on which was the crest from each of the school's Houses. "If you could please go to the back of the room and retrieve a cauldron with your House crest on the lid. Please be careful not to spill, as there is a potion in each one. So far the lesson hadn't set any alarms off to her. Maybe this lesson wouldn't end with another trip to the Hospital wing or with her bleeding or worse.
Setting the small cauldron on her workstation, she waited for more instruction and to hear Josh's performance. |

Fred chuckled as he heard how one of his classmates could earn back the points he lost. This was certainly rather silly but pretty harmless so he had no qualms about it and quickly went to the back of the room and carefully picked up a couldron with the Gryffindor crest and returned to his seat wondering what they would be doing today hoping it would not end in disaster like previous classes.

Perhaps nobody had told Joshua about the benefits of this lovely device called deodorant?
She retrieved her cauldron and then went back to her table to await further orders.

A Good Potioneer must know all this stuff, or else be afraid to get blown up into pieces by a potion he/she doesn't know what the flappers it is he/she is making... • Knows Their Ingredients
• Follows Directions
• Takes Safety Precautions
• Pays Attention to Details
• Documents Everything
• Understands Ingredient Interactions
• Is Organized and Precise Hmhm.... Miranda added one more thing to her notes; • Does not take anything for granted. There.
And now onto the Professors instructions. Miranda listened to the man and looked back as he gestured to the cute little cauldrons at the back with... the HUFFLEPUFF CREST! Squeeeeeeeeeeeee! Oh boy oh boy oh boy!
When he had finished explaining, the Captain stood up and hurried over to the table, carefully picked up a cauldron and slowly made her way to her work area so not to spill anything. Errr, what? Someone was going to sing? Bahahahaha! Oh, poor fellow. What did he do to deserve that? Snort. |

Standing up she went to the back of the room and found a cauldron with her house on it. Picking it up she walked back to her table and sat it down. Next she looked at Josh again and then picked up her quill to write in her journal.
After writing everything down Kay sat and watched Josh and waited for him to sing or for the Professor to say something.

Bella smiled whe she learned her answer was at least a good guess, enough to earn points. Putting her hand under her chin she listened, turning only to catch a glimps of the couldron's behind them. She could just see glimpses of the different house creast on the lids.
Sliding from her seat she walked around the other students to the table. Looking down the row of couldron's she saw one with the Ravenclaw creast on it. Slowly and carefully picking it up she made her way to her table.
There was a moment in her journey she had thought she had spilled some of the potion. She had looked down to the ground to see no spilliage. Sighing Bella sat down her couldron.

Sarah wrote down everything that Kazimeriz had majicked onto the board, nodding at each point. It's allll good.Yep, yep.She hadn't actually given an answer herself as she was trying to remain inconspiciously green.Hopefully it was working.
Giving Kay a bright smile, Sarah wandered up to the front and carefully picked up one of the Hufflepuff crested cauldron, inspecting it curiously. "Wonder what's in here, then...." she mumbled, easing her way back to the workstation, where she put it down. She was just about to remove the lid for a peek, when she remembered he hadn't told them to do that.
Hand shooting back down to her side, Sarah looked up at the next words.Josh was going to sing? -gigglesnort- Ohhh this will be good.Crossing her arms, and looking in his direction, Sarah raised an eyebrow as she waited for the routine.

Marie couldn't help but giggle a little when the professor said Josh had to sing to get his points back. Personally she was hoping he wouldn't do it. Slytherin needed all the help they could get and well, if it meant the other houses losing points then so be it.
She walked to the table with all the cauldrons on it and grabbed one with the Slytherin crest on it. Once back at her table she set the cauldron down carefully so she didn't spill any of the potion inside. Hopefully they wouldn't have to drink whatever it was because if Kazi made it who knew what would happen.

Nine, ten.

Bella giggled to herself as she looked up and listened to the boy, she didn't know, sing a song. She had to admit it was a very good song, very catchy!

He climbed on his work station and began to sign his ballad spontaneously;
''Oooo i don't know
Oooo how to sing

Tipi, tipi, tom, ten'' “Kazi poo, doesn’t sound very entoxicating.” Daisy said placing her Gryffindor encrusted cauldron down on the counter next to the smelly Joshua (who people seemed to be giving a wide berth to. Daisy was used to funny smells. She spent her summers shoveling dragon dung at the reservation in Romania where her mother worked and her family lived.
Just then Joshua climbed atop the work station. Daisy snatched up her cauldron before he could spill it and soon the 2nd year burst into song. She winced, she wailed, she wished Kazi hadn’t asked Josh to sing. He was terrible. It was worse then a hippogriff with a toothache. Please be over soon!
All she could do was hope as Josh warbled through the notes of his improvised song. Was he even singing a tune? It certainly wasn’t in any key Daisy knew of.

Herminny was not much of a fan of punishment like this even if was harmless but she was not about to say anything about it or get close to the stinky boy. She just got a couldron marked with the Gryffindor crest and returned to her seat as she heard the boy start his song apology. Man did she want to be anywhere but here about now, thankfully the song did come to an end and she waited to see what else this class would bring hoping it was another catastophe butt with a challenge class that did seem less likely.

I walk over and grab a cauldron with the Slytherin Crest on it. I go back to my seat as a listen to Gryffindork sing.
I grab out my journal and write.
That looked good, I can't wait to find out what we are going to do with the potions.

Hogwarts RPG Name: Armand Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year Hogwarts RPG Name: Damien Beta-Erikson Slytherin First Year | Slytherin by heart Lina, kitty ears and all, as she hadn't figured them out yet, went and got the cauldron with her crest on it. How interesting. And slightly ironic as she was just talking with Raiden about learning to be a good potions master. Maybe ol' Kazi was reading her thoughts? Nah... Oh, that was right. She still needed to experiment with the witchweed. She would have to bring that to the lab after class.

As he was on his way back Josh began singing. It took all of his concentration not to drop the cauldron. He carefully placed it on the table next to Marie's Slytherin one.

Becca smirked as the Gryffindor recited his somewhat comical speil to the class and stood up, turning on heel as she did. Heading to the very back of the tort-..uh dungeon, Becca took a cauldron with the seal of Ravenclaw on it and carefully brought it back to her workstation. Peering into the cauldron with interest, she awaited further instructions.
