| | |  Potions class: Introduction to potions
The sharp smell of hot metal cauldrons filled with malodorous contents mingle with the cool, musty smell of dungeon air, marrying to create that peculiar scent that veteran Hogwarts students immediately recognize as Eau de Potions Classroom. Buried deep within the castle's underbelly, the potions classroom is dim and dank, lit only by the flicker of candle-laden chandeliers and the dim blue flames that sit beneath the cauldrons at the front of the class. If you were to touch the bare stone walls, and it is not recommended that you do, your hand would come back to you lightly coated with an unpleasant cold slime-- the accumulation of years of potion vapors, combined with dust and mildew and condensation and things you'd probably rather not think about (much less actually have on your skin).
The room houses several large obsidian workstations, each set with two wooden stools to encourage the students to work in pairs. Each workstation has ample room for the students to set up their cauldrons and other equipment, and the walls are lined with jars and bottles containing all sorts of potions supplies, from friendly-looking dried flowers to jars of bulging eyeballs and entrails. One contains something that vaguely looks like a pickled hand, and it pulses as it floats, as though waving at the students.
Each container is labeled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom there is a lectern and a desk with the professor's chair. Behind it, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions: Quote: INTRO TO POTIONS
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. Do not set up your workstation even if you are confident that you are capable of doing so.
This potions class will last two periods. The first period of class is Introduction to Potions. First years, those in need of remedial training, and those who have taken Forgetfulness Potions are encouraged to be here. The second period will provide a more in-depth instruction; All students should join us at this time, but all are welcome to audit the first period if they choose.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you. --Professor Kazimeriz CLASS SUMMARY:
1- The Professor is uncharacteristically late to class. In his absence, the poltergeist Peeves has snuck into the class, making a grand entrance and proclaiming himself the new potions master. Chaos rules as the students are made to answer riddles while ducking flying objects, potions and a LOT Of water. Post 152- The students manage to banish Peeves with threats of the Bloody Baron... only moments too soon, as Professor Kazimeriz enters the room to find wet students and a huge mess. Loooocy, you got some 'splainin to do! Post 332 The class has begun making a Camraderie Concoction. The instructions are on the chalkboard in THIS post, so feel free to jump in! Post 384 Most of the students are getting along nicely... But oh dear! Miss Marlowe seems to have gone wrong, and her cauldron is about to explode! Everybody DUCK!
ooc: Like the old man has written-- First we will go over Intro to Potions, and then begin the first class for all students. Feel free to RP coming into the class, getting situated, picking someone to sit with, and talking amongst yourselves and even have your own little class related stuff going on with one another (as long as you don't turn this into your personal chat thread, or I will be forced to delete your posts without warning, and man, I HATE doin' that to y'all!)
I will update this first post throughout the class to detail what is going on as we go, so if you come late please feel free to jump into the RP and as long as you pretend you were there the whole time, *I* will pretend you were there. If you announce yourself as entering late, however, points MAY be deducted. Kazimeriz is not nearly as easygoing as I am, so don't tell the old man!  If you have questions please feel free to PM XanaSnape, because y0, that's me. 
The first period of this class will begin tomorrow, 05 Feb 2010, mid-morning EST, so please be in your seats by then if you can (or pretend you were and jump in!)... Class period one shall run about a day or two (depending on participation! PLAY!) and then class period two shall begin and also run a day or two to allow all time zones ample time to play.

Nicoletta pointed her wand at the desk she had been sitting at which was now covered in water and whatever else peeves had thrown at them. "Evenesco!" she said. Everything that had been covering the desk disappeared and the desk looked better than it had when she first sat down. I'll bet this place'll look like it's brand new once we're done. she thought. After a little while she figured she'd go back to mopping the floor.
Nicoletta picked up a mop and headed to a corner of the room that was nearly soaked.
Back and forth,
And back and forth.
We wash the floor
back and forth.
Wishy washy,
clean the room
cuz Peeves was here
and brought our doom.
Wash the tables, wash the floor
So Kaz won't be mad no more.
In her head, Nicoletta sung this over and over again until a large spot of the room had been cleaned.

Right. Destiny would definitely be sure to tell a professor if the potion made things..grow on her. She nodded at the Prefect and waved to him when he went to help a HufflePuff get dried off.
Grrr.
She turned around to tell Marie which cleaning spells she knew, she would definitely have to write them down since she knew so many, buuuut Marie had disappeared. Where did she--ooooh, she was with Evan. Of course! After giving Marie two thumbs up, because she felt it was the right thing to do, Destiny grabbed her mop and started to mop again.
Why wasn't Evelyn enjoying this!? And why were people using magic to clean!? They had hands for a reason, and that reason was to hold a mop!
Was she the only one having fun?

Meh. That stupid poltergeist. He was not funny. His jokes were stupid and lacked the necessary quality except that wordly one. He might have a little bit of fun though, if he had not been sitting in a dungeons classroom. In this place the Gryffindor boy was NOT cheerful and he only kept looking around with a careless expression as Peeves made a total mess of the place. Not to mention now he had some gross stuff on his robes. No problem. He just took it off and threw it on the empty left side of his work station.
When Kazimeriz arrived, at last, in the class he did not look so happy about it. Naturally...hmmm so they had to clean the place. All right. He knew how to clean up a Potions workstation since last year an older Ravenclaw girl taught him how to manage the spells. ''Fine''. Unholstering his hazel wand, the boy directly pointed it at the sticky substance on his desk. ''Scourcify!'' then ''Evanesco!'' This was a routine.

Sidney gets a couple of mops, a broom, some of that cleaning stuff Professor Kazimeriz mentioned and several rags. She then makes her way back to the cleaning station. Sidney smiles as she watches the weird boy (Jake Upstead) arguing with his lab partner. The guy is a real moron. Of course all of their tugging with the mop is causing a tidal wave of water. Sidney looks down and sees her shoes and half her socks are now wet too. "Trying to mop this water up is going to be a loosing battle. There's just too much on the floor." Sidney thinks about what spells you could use, then she remembers Professor Kazimeriz warning about using magic you weren't familar with. Well, that eliminates about all the magic spells. I don't know many of them. How would a muggle get this water up? Sidney takes her bucket and starts scooping the water up into it. She then goes and empties it in the sink. Sidney continues the process. | |

He waved his wand idly; the water on the floor evaporated and the last of the mess in the room tidied itself.

Where did all the water go? Destiny still wanted to mop, but heard KaziMan tell them to take out their supplies. She moped over to the supply cabinet and put away the mop.
It would surely be missed.
She then moped back over to her work station and took out all her supplies.
She couldn't wait to clean the cauldrons!

His station was looking somewhat cleaner. Jake put away his mop and went over to set up his station. After a few seconds of unpacking and organizing his things it finally started to look more like a classroom and less of a warzone. Finishing up jake sat and waited for the next instruction.

Evelyn hadn't even touched the mop that sat next to her. She more of glared at it while sitting down and glancing at everyone else cleaning every now and then...Why wouldn't this mop clean!? She'd seen the ones at her house cleaning on their own, so why wouldn't this one do exactly that? Maybe it was stupid...great, she got a retarded mop.
But it didn't matter since the Professor said they could start to fix their workstation and such. Breathing out a long breathe, she set up her station while looking at the mop out of the corner of her eye. It was still sitting there...staring at her. Well she wasn't going to touch it! So it can just go and put itself away!

Ivory looked up as the Professor evaproated the rest of the water.
Shooting him a grateful smile, she resisted the urge to do a little jig and instead put the mop and bucket away.
Heading back to her now sparkling clean workstation, she began to unpack all of her equipment. Fist she removed her glass phials from their special case, her potion making kit from its small wooden chest along with the included stirrers and of course her Standard Size 2 Cauldron safely packaged from its dragon hide satchel. Then she removed her mortar and pestle in their small protective pouch and arranged her dagger and knife still in their proper sheaths (no use taking them out now before they were needed). Carefully she took out the brass scales from their flat case and placed them on the table followed by her elbow length Graphorn and Manticore hide gloves that had been a gift from her grandmother who thought safety was the number one concern in potions, hence all the safety precautions on all her equipment.
Smiling, she looked down at all her carefully placed materials and placed all the casings on the side since they would just be in the way if she left them there.
Happy that nothing had a speck of boogies or gum or anything, she arranged her books in a neat pile but propped up her lab manual in case that was what they used first.

With an air of finality and an almighty tug (and a shave with his foot so Melanie moved back a little) Jake tok the mop from Melanie.
Standing back up, and thankful that the floor was dry, Jake reached up and mopppped Melanie's head for her, so she was niiiiiice and clean, and as drenched as Jake. "All done!" he exclaimed, throwing the mop back to the girl and turning back to the work station, beginning the process of taking all the equipment he needed out of his bag.

Allison spread out all of her supplies and awaited for what their Professor had to add. As it was putting away the wet mop had been a horrible experience. First she had tripped, then she had managed to get her feet soaked with what was dripping from the mop, finally she had grabbed the mop from the bottom and now her hands smelled. Then thinking she was being efficient she wiped her hands on her robes, and she looked like a mess. Cursing under her breath she had taken a seat next to Arya once more and when told to take out her materials she had slapped herself on the face.
Her materials were still humid even after she had dried them. As it was the satchel Anastasia had given Allison was now completely ruined, one could imagine the sight of her supplies. Only time would tell if the humidity would leave the girl alone once and for all.

Melanie spluttered, her face turning a light shade of pink as she slowly stood to her feet, just as wet as Jake. She didn't even have time to retaliate, or ponder long on this, because just as it happened the professor began to speak.
When the potions master announced they would be starting the potion making part of the lesson Melanie hurriedly returned the mop and bucket to the supply closet. She couldn't help but feel the slightest bit dejected. Melanie had a feeling she'd probably done a better job cleaning up than she would actually making whatever potion they were creating today. And she'd been wrestling over a mop half the time.
As she got back to the table she gave Jake a small, proud smile, an attempt to prove his victory had no effect on her whatsoever. Then she siphoned the water from her robes (She wasn't going to leave them like that!), did her best to wring her hair out, and began to set out her potions supplies, as the professor had instructed.
