| | |  Potions class: Introduction to potions
The sharp smell of hot metal cauldrons filled with malodorous contents mingle with the cool, musty smell of dungeon air, marrying to create that peculiar scent that veteran Hogwarts students immediately recognize as Eau de Potions Classroom. Buried deep within the castle's underbelly, the potions classroom is dim and dank, lit only by the flicker of candle-laden chandeliers and the dim blue flames that sit beneath the cauldrons at the front of the class. If you were to touch the bare stone walls, and it is not recommended that you do, your hand would come back to you lightly coated with an unpleasant cold slime-- the accumulation of years of potion vapors, combined with dust and mildew and condensation and things you'd probably rather not think about (much less actually have on your skin).
The room houses several large obsidian workstations, each set with two wooden stools to encourage the students to work in pairs. Each workstation has ample room for the students to set up their cauldrons and other equipment, and the walls are lined with jars and bottles containing all sorts of potions supplies, from friendly-looking dried flowers to jars of bulging eyeballs and entrails. One contains something that vaguely looks like a pickled hand, and it pulses as it floats, as though waving at the students.
Each container is labeled in the Professor's shaky old man's script, and at the back of the room are shelves groaning under the weight of huge potions encyclopedias and texts.
At the front of the classroom there is a lectern and a desk with the professor's chair. Behind it, a large charmed chalkboard stands. On it are written these simple instructions: Quote: INTRO TO POTIONS
Please be seated. The professor will be here momentarily. Be certain that you have all your potions equipment with you; failure to do so may cost your House points. Do not set up your workstation even if you are confident that you are capable of doing so.
This potions class will last two periods. The first period of class is Introduction to Potions. First years, those in need of remedial training, and those who have taken Forgetfulness Potions are encouraged to be here. The second period will provide a more in-depth instruction; All students should join us at this time, but all are welcome to audit the first period if they choose.
You may talk quietly amongst yourselves, but please keep the conversation to a reasonable level out of respect for your classmates. Thank you. --Professor Kazimeriz CLASS SUMMARY:
1- The Professor is uncharacteristically late to class. In his absence, the poltergeist Peeves has snuck into the class, making a grand entrance and proclaiming himself the new potions master. Chaos rules as the students are made to answer riddles while ducking flying objects, potions and a LOT Of water. Post 152- The students manage to banish Peeves with threats of the Bloody Baron... only moments too soon, as Professor Kazimeriz enters the room to find wet students and a huge mess. Loooocy, you got some 'splainin to do! Post 332 The class has begun making a Camraderie Concoction. The instructions are on the chalkboard in THIS post, so feel free to jump in! Post 384 Most of the students are getting along nicely... But oh dear! Miss Marlowe seems to have gone wrong, and her cauldron is about to explode! Everybody DUCK!
ooc: Like the old man has written-- First we will go over Intro to Potions, and then begin the first class for all students. Feel free to RP coming into the class, getting situated, picking someone to sit with, and talking amongst yourselves and even have your own little class related stuff going on with one another (as long as you don't turn this into your personal chat thread, or I will be forced to delete your posts without warning, and man, I HATE doin' that to y'all!)
I will update this first post throughout the class to detail what is going on as we go, so if you come late please feel free to jump into the RP and as long as you pretend you were there the whole time, *I* will pretend you were there. If you announce yourself as entering late, however, points MAY be deducted. Kazimeriz is not nearly as easygoing as I am, so don't tell the old man!  If you have questions please feel free to PM XanaSnape, because y0, that's me. 
The first period of this class will begin tomorrow, 05 Feb 2010, mid-morning EST, so please be in your seats by then if you can (or pretend you were and jump in!)... Class period one shall run about a day or two (depending on participation! PLAY!) and then class period two shall begin and also run a day or two to allow all time zones ample time to play.

The one class that Allison Scott was nervous about was Potions. One of the few classes that hadn't yet started, and from rumors the professor was extremely strict. Not that she was nervous about a mentor being strict, just that strict people reminded Allison of her family. And that was not something she wished to recall.
At the top of her head she began to check off the list the materials that had been listed outside the door...

Standard Potions Kit
Magical Drafts and Potions text, A. Jigger
Introduction to Potions text, H. Slughorn

Standard grimoire or lab workbook
and to read the first chapter by Slughorn. She had it all, after all her satchel didn't weigh so much for nothing. Feeling slightly confident Allison walked into the classroom and took a seat. Not knowing whether or not to feel uncomfortable by not taking out her supplies of feeling relieved that she was following instructions, Allison began to pull on her robes.

Mina slowly walked into the classroom and instantly recongnized the smells of the dungeon mixed with potions. It was still her favourite class, even after all that happened last year. Besides, a few bad experiences shouldn't stop her from enjoying potions. She did need to take the good with the bad.
Glancing around, she found an empty work table and took a seat. Doubling checking that she did in fact have all her equipment, she set her bag beside her and waited patiently. She did need to brush up on her intro to potions though, she really didn't want to be unprepared for anything this year. She still had nightmares about their pop quiz final last year and she didn't want to relive that by any means. She needed to completely understand everything if she was going to do well and she wasn't going to settle for anything less. | |

Ian had dutifully and as usual, followed the crowd to the dungeons and then to the Potions Classroom. Nose slightly wrinkled at the odor of the room, the boy simply frowned a little bit and occupied one of the front seats; this was not something he would have usually done, but Ian had heard things. Things like the Potions master was, just like Duskurk, a no nonsense man. Plus, the man was ANCIENT and McKensie had always had bad luck with old people.
Sitting at the front would, undoubtedly, keep him from getting distracted and consequently landing himself in some horrible detention. He had also, for the first time since arriving to Hogwarts, making sure that his Ravenclaw tie was not crooked, his shirt tucked in, and that his robes were free of dirt. Heck, he'd even showered.
The fifth year clearly, clearly did not want to cause any trouble during THIS particular class.
Quietly taking seat, he unsuccessfully attempted to flatten his wild, brown hair - because THAT was the only thing out of place with his appearance. Ah, well, he could certainly LOOK worse.
He began to tap his fingers anxiously against the wooden desk of the workstation he would have to share with someone else.

This. This was definitely the class least looked forward to. Raiden could feel his stomach tightening into an anxious knot as he drew closer and closer to the door.
It did not escape him, the fact that he was the only one left here from that group last year. Two had graduated, and LouAnn was simply nowhere to be found; a little digging had revealed that she had not returned. This... meant that if Professor Kazimeriz was displeased about their actions... he was the only one that stood to find out.
Oh yay.
Quietly, quickly, he entered the classroom, eyes sweeping over every visible area before he moved to an empty table near the back and sank onto a stool. The board was... well. Apparently he didn't have to participate in the first half of class? Did that mean he didn't have to be here, or... well that was confusing. Had the notice on the board said anything about that? He couldn't recall, but... well then again, he hadn't properly read it, had he.
He wasn't about to leave, though. Surely he wouldn't be able to force himself to come back a second time in the same day. Besides, he was also a prefect, and would probably be expected to be there. And it couldn't hurt to listen in on things he already knew. Refresher course, so to speak. So Raiden remained at the back of the room, idly flicking through his potions book, his gaze catching ingredients lists for potions he knew all too well.
Maybe he should've brought Roscoe... Professor Kazimeriz liked him, right? | |

Nunually entered the common room with caution. She wasn't sure what was going to occur in this classroom. She had read fairytales in which potions were a horrible thing. She knew this school was so far good, and nice, so there was nothing to worried about right? She gulped and entered the room. She couldn't really see anyone around since her glasses were lost. She squinted and decided she should sit in the front of the classroom.

"It's a funny story..."Nunually gave a nervous giggle and she put her hand behind her head and smiled. "Well you see, um.." she then put her hand down and put her finger on her chin. "There was this bird who um, thought it was shiny..." she began to turn red, "And he decided my glasses should be his, I only have a lens and I have tried Accio glasses no work I think they are gone now.." she said looking like a tomatoe

Surely Destiny didn't need to be in the introductions to Potions class. She could after all, brew up a mean boil removing potion. She did have to make it about three times last term, so she was now a pro. The real reason she was here was to clean the cauldrons. Yes, she might have enjoyed cleaning more than the class itself. She could totally open up her own cauldron cleaning business and she would enjoy every minute of it. Maybe not every minute, especially when the cauldrons got the really thick layer of grime around the rim.
She was not surprised when she walked into the classroom and didn't see Kaz The KaziMan. Taking a seat at an empty table, Destiny made sure she had all her supplies before she actually got comfortable. If she didn't she would have to run to her dorm to grab it, but of course, she had everything. Sighing in relief, she sat down on the stool and placed her bag on the table. Pooootions.

Okay, so maybe she didn't want to be here. And maybe she didn't need help in potions, and maaybee she just came because Destiny was going, and she had nothing better to do. Well, it would be nice to have a little reminder of potions class before the real stuff happens.
Sighing, standing outside the door to the classroom, Evelyn took a deep breathe before coughing a little. It always smelled strange around the potions room, and she had yet to get used to it. But eventually! Eventually she would... Standing up straight, she walked in and took a seat next to Destiny before suddenly dropping her bag to the floor with a loud 'THUD' and laying her head down on the table. The coldness of it felt good on her forehead. Maybe she could sleep for the first half of the class? Nah...Kazi wasn't that nice.

Marie really was not looking forward to potions class now that she knew Kazi was going to be teaching it again. Why she was even coming to this part of the class she did not know. Okay, she did know, she was hoping to see Evan, she hadn't seen him in a couple of days and she was really starting to miss him. Last term was not the greatest for her and potions. First Kazi poisoned them, made them clean cauldrons, took points away just because she didn't want to clean the older students cauldrons, made them fall in love with someone they didn't even know. Okay, so maybe that one worked out pretty good, after all her and Evan were very close friends now. Then there was that dreaded 'Pop Quiz'. Yeah she was just lucky enough to have three of those nasty balloons pop on her. Boils, bruises and colored hair, what an experience that was.
Wiping all thoughts of last term from her mind, except the class where she fell in love with met Evan she walked into the classroom hoping to find Evan there. She didn't see him but she did see Evelyn and Destiny. She went over and sat across from them plopping her bag on the table hoping she didn't forget anything. Looking through her bag quickly she is relieved when she fihds that she has two pair of gloves in there. Better to be safe than sorry in this class, you never know what you will be touching. Satisfired she had everything she closed her bag back up. "Hey Evelyn, Destiny, so what kind of surprises do you think are in store for us this term?" she asked as she was looking around the room to make sure Evan wasn't there. She wanted him to come sit with her, not some other girl who might try to steal him away from her.

Unless it was Destiny, but she wasn't sitting where the noise was coming from. Irritably, she lifted her head off the table and glared at whoever it was-oh. It was just Marie. Well, she was another exception. Sighing again, holding back a yawn, Evelyn stretch her back and slumped a little, feeling really crappy.
What kind of surprises? "Hopefully none." She didn't know if she would be able to take it anymore if she had some other weird thing pop up on her skin, or if she floated to the ceiling, or burned herself again! That last one seemed to have stopped, but...ugh. She probably just jinxed herself. Destiny knew healing charms right?! "One. Just one, class where nothing but learning about and mixing potions would be nice. Just one! No boils, feathers, levitating, balloons, scales, random love, poisons or anything. Just a simple...normal...class." And with that, she let her head drop back down to the table, her arms dangling at her sides. Yea, she was tired.

Emily walked to a station at the very back of the potions lab and swung her heavy bag onto the table, where it landed with a dull thud. After reading the instructions on the board, Emily pulled out the parchment onto which she had copied the library book page on the Black family Tree and began to read, telling herself she would put it away when the teacher began class. The first thing she read was the motto "Tujours Pur". Recalling her language lessons she snorted slightly as she realised it meant "always pure". Well if it was refering to blood purity-which, considering everything else she had read about the Blacks, she assumed it was-she hardly fit. Returning her thoughts to the parchment in her hand she quickly found that cousin, Sirius, and then noiced a small line leading to the name Harry Potter indicating a godfather/son relationship. Well this brought up some interesting questions, but she pushed them to the back of her mind, resolving to find the answers after classes ended. She traced back from Sirius to Marius Black, the squib, her great great great to however many degrees grandfather and sighed quietly as she noted the different ink colour in which the names of his wife and their decendants were written, indicating they were non-magical, then stopped at a name on the sheet between Rebecca and Rachel. Emily. She was on this? And in green ink too, indicating magical blood. Very interesting...

Stepping into Potions, Rachel eyed the board with slight annoyance. She had purposefully made her way here ALL the way from the Tower, knowing that the lesson will be IMPORTANT - since all Kazimeriz's ones are.
Intro? Two parts? Why did she never KNOW these things?
Eh, well. She might as well stay and review the basics one more time.
Waving at Allison with a grin, the seventh year sat herself down in a table directly in front of a rather odd Ravenclaw boy who was preoccupied with patting in hair down in a kind of weird manner.
Well, in a normal manner because just the action of patting the head is weird. Oh well. Automatically making sure she had everything, Rachel placed both elbows on the table and waited for Professor Kazimeriz to make his grand entrance and begin the introduction.

Okay. So...
Even though Jake felt he was pretty okay at potions, he still wanted to go through the motions of the introduction and everything. You never could learn too much after all.
Soooooooooo, Jake stepped into the classroom, all normal-like, and moved riiiiiiiiiiiight up to the front (or as close to the front as he could get). He found a workstation of his own and dumped his school bag into his other seat; this was like, the only lesson he hated working with someone else in. If he was making a potion HE was going to try, he'd only trust himself.
As his bag made an ominous clanging sound on one stool, Jake sat himself down in the other. His robes were tucked into his bag; with these new ones he kept tripping over. They were a safety hazard.
Aaaaaaaaaaand he waited. Looking all muggle in his shirt and school tie... he waited.
Alooooone.
