The ornate mahogany door opens to reveal the opulent office of Professor Duskurk. The intricate scrollwork upon the door is duplicated in the fine, burnished, mahogany furniture within. The desk is large and uncluttered with only an inkwell, quill, and blotter before the high-backed, throne-like, chair behind the desk. The only other adornment to the desk was a silver-plated and emerald-encrusted desk name plate reading:

T. Duskurk, Professor.
The wizard sitting in that throne-like chair behind the desk looks at you with black eyes that seem to almost flash scarlet at times. Though he is middle-aged for a wizard his hair has not yet turned white, instead it is a blackened grey, and very few lines can be found in his still-handsome face. The only feature giving away his age of three-quarters of a century is his size. By no means overweight, Professor Duskurk's build has gone from thin to bulky over the years, giving him a very commanding appearance. He is very clearly, by appearance and bearing, one not to be lightly crossed.

If your eyes can be drawn away from the wizard sitting at the desk one would see that the rest of the pristine is comprised of effulgent mahogany shelves and cabinets echoing the ornate carving of desk and door. There are myriad books, phials, and instruments without even a hint of dust. Each of the cabinets is firmly locked with what might be more than just simple locking mechanisms...

When had she arrived? Kiri briefly considered inviting her to see Professor Duskurk first, but judging by the time she'd had to wait, she was likely to be late for her next lesson anyway. And Professor Lupa could afford a few extra minutes, she wouldn't be the one to be told off for that.
"Good afternoon, Professor Duskurk," Kiri said politely, shutting the door. "At the feast, you said you wanted to see me?"

"Thank you, professor. Did Professor Duskurk order you to his office too? It seems every Slytherin here has been ordered here by him." It did seem odd to Sidney that Professor Duskurk wanted to see so many Slytherins even their head of house. I guess he's very interested in that house. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Violet couldn't take this any longer she piped up and said "Excuse me I wasn't and I think he sent them here to tell them that that.." Violet was thinking she knew almost all the Slytherins who went in there and the ones she knew did get into trouble but so what who cared? "That he wanted to give them hot cocoa and cookies" Violet finsished and stuck her nose up in the air.

Sidney gives the Slytherin girl a confused look. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset you, but I was talking to Professor Lupa. I didn't mean to make anything out of the number of Slytherins here. I assume Professor Duskurk likes Slytherins. I'm happy he's inviting them down for a Hot Chocolate Party." From the comments other Slytherins have made to her, Sidney doesn't believe Hot Chocolate and cookies is all the Slytherins are getting from Professor Duskurk. Sidney really doesn't understand some of the students around here. She's beginning to wonder if she just brings out the worse in people.

He took a moment to squint in her direction, bringing up the memory of her sitting straight and looking him in the eye without any of the snark of her housemates. "Ah yes. I was taken with your presence at the feast and would like to extend to you an opportunity to serve me," Professor Duskurk said, steepling his fingers and resting his elbows on his desk as he continued to study the girl.

Kiri allowed herself a few moments to look around Professor Duskurk's office. What a professor decided to do with their office - what kind of furniture they used, what personal photographs they put up, whatever magical items they possessed - always gave clues about their personality. And some of the stuff they managed to acquire, especially if it was foreign, was just too interesting not to look at.

In Professor Duskurk's case, Kiri decided, a lot of time had gone into the acquiring aspect. The cabinets holding them were clearly very old, but spotless and polished to a shine. So many glinting glass phials and mysterious instruments... And so many books! Kiri eyed them enviously. Some of the tomes looked as if they were older than the shelves they'd been sorted into.

The professor sat behind his almost entirely empty desk, watching her silently. Kiri slid into a chair opposite him. Kiri nearly jumped when he spoke - she hadn't noticed until that point how eerily silent the office was.
"Erm, thank you, Professor" she said when he had finished, figuring that his comment on her "presence" was probably meant as a compliment. But what did he mean... Serve him? He was a teacher. Students went to lessons and did homework, they didn't attend on professors. "What do you mean, exactly?" she repeated aloud.

He smiled and it seemed a bit sinister. Thomas Duskurk didn't really have a smile that wasn't at least a bit sinister. That was a very good response. He was further impressed by this students. "On occasion I find that having a student assistant is an invaluable advantage. Most of your duties would be to run various errands around the school in your free time. And you would, of course, be rewarded for your efforts," he said and summoned a book over to the desk as he spoke the last sentence.

Kiri tried to think quickly. A student assistant? With rewards?

Sure, she would have preferred someone who wasn't quite as creepy as Professor Duskurk, a teacher whose unwavering gaze seemed to be inspecting your very soul and putting red circles around the parts he didn't like. But then again, he was the Defence Against the Dark Arts instructor. And he looked old enough to have faced the sort of things that would give him an unwavering gaze. He'd probably made others blink first, and who knew how many eyes those had turned out to have.

But a small voice inside Kiri registered its protest. It had a few things to say about what had happened last term... Kiri decided to fish around a bit more, to try and figure out what Professor Duskurk had in mind. She figured she had another two or three questions left before he became impatient. "I'd, er, definitely be interested, Professor," she said, glancing at the book, "but... um, it's my OWL year, and I'm also captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team. How often would I have to run errands for you, do you think?"

"Your thinking this through only confirms your suitability for the job. You will not be required to sacrifice your school work nor your extracurricular activities. I would very much like to see Slytherin win both the Quidditch and House Cups this term," he said and looked sternly at her. He pushed a book on defensive spells across the desk toward her. "You may have that text. Your first assignment will be to request any items that Professor Lainey may have left behind from the History of Magic professor."

"I'll, er, do my best, Professor," Kiri said with a small smile, then looked at the book more closely. The cover was so cracked and ancient she was afraid of touching it. What if she opened that book and it fell apart right here in front of the professor? She traced the letters of the title, pressed deep into the cover's leather, and decided that Professor Duskurk was hardly the sort of person who would neglect such a book.

Kiri picked it up reverently. She considered briefly putting it into her bag, but then remembered about the mess in there... Ink well, used quills, boxes of potion ingredients... She pressed the tome to her chest protectively and glanced at the professor. Their meeting, quick and to the point as expected, seemed to have come to an end.

"Request any items that Professor, er, Lainey may have left behind from Professor Svensson." She nodded and had to suppress a sudden urge to reach across the desk and shake hands with the professor - it felt like some sort of... clandestine pact had been made. Kiri wondered briefly if Professor Svensson knew about this. "Would that be all, Professor?" she asked, reaching for her bag.

Riddle? I thought Tom Riddle didn't have any descedants. Well, the girl should know her family. After all. she is a Slytherin. "Nice to meet you. What do you think about Professor Duskurk?" Sidney is curious to pick a Slytherin's brain as far as Professor Duskurk is concerned. Sidney wants to make sure the professor doesn't have a personal vendetta against Hufflepuffs.

Violet knew judging by some of her friends that got in trouble from Professor Duskurk that he's not the biggest fan of Slytherin, but of course she was not going to admit it "Oh I'm really not sure just be yourself around him." said Violet

She opened the door, holding it up for the next person. Another Slytherin, apparently... Her house seemed to be in high demand today. Kiri smiled at Professor Lupa, then nodded to herself and hurried off to her next lesson.

It didn't occur to her until later that she had never actually agreed to help Professor Duskurk. He had just... created facts. How skilled and clever he was at steering people...

He wouldn't eat the apple, of course. If he'd been anyone else he might have been touched by the gift, but he was not. Professor Duskurk looked away from the apple, unimpressed. "I am required to allow all students below sixth year into my classes," he replied.
