This was one encounter Jake was both dreading and interested in. Whoever the History of Magic professor was these days, Jake had one particular question to ask, considering he surprised even himself with knowledge about this subject.

Knocking quickly on the door, five times in rapid succesion, Jake began to chew nervously on his thumbnail.

Please don't be the scary guy... Pleeeeease don't be the scary guy...

Svensson was nibbling on the tip of his favorite quill, staring at his notes for his first class. They looked pretty complete. Why, there was not even much space left to add more. But he felt like he was leaving something out.

Knockknockknockknockknock!

The man jumped and leaped to his feat, shoving himself and his chair away from his desk. Five knocks to his door. What, was somebody trying halfheartedly to break in or something? Svensson dropped his quill and notes onto his desktop and ran a hand through his hair as he walked around his desk to the door.

He opened it and blinked at the student standing there. He knew this boy. What was his name again? Joshua? Jorge? Jack? John? "Come in, James," he said finally, convinced he had figured out the boy's name. He stepped to one side of the doorway to let the boy pass through. "How can I help you?"

Well... that was a surprisingly quick reaction. In fact, the way the door opened so soon, Jake was petrified that it WAS the scary guy, because the scary guys were always the quickest.

But it WASN'T! Jake could have skipped for joy. But he didn't... just gave a small smile.

And believe it or not, he was glad that Svensson couldn't remember his name. Not so much of a reputation for Jake it seemed. Alriiiiiight.

"It's Jake, sssssir," the boy corrected, stepping inside the office. It seemed that the first question he had been asking himself about the subject had been answered. Now... "Suhh-sir... I juhh-just... fffirst I wwwanted to kn-know... Are your c-c-classes ggggoing to be sssplit into... like... ad-advanced an' bbuhh-beginner?"

Don't think I'm nervous... Don't think I'm nervous...

Svensson repeated the boy's name in his head as he let the door fall closed and stepped back around his desk. Jake. Jake was the kid who seemed nervous. Hmm.

As he contemplated the boy's question, Professor Svensson tidied an already near-perfect pile of parchment on his desk and wiped his quill on a scrap piece of parchment.

"Split classes? Oh, no," Svensson finally answered, shaking his head with a smile. "I feel that more advanced students can always benefit from thinking about things more simply, and that way the advanced students are available if beginners need help on homework or whatnot." Svensson paused and twirled the quill between his forefinger and thumb. "Is that all you wanted to ask, Jake?"

Her Cadence was, back at Hogwarts. Two years go, the healers thought she might not make it back here, but she did. And it was a brand new start! Most of these professors wouldn't even remember she'd destroyed the Hufflepuff Common Room, and after being homeschooled (if you could even call it that... more like self-schooled) for two years, she was going to take advantage of having real professors as much as possible. The first task on her check list was to go to the office of each professor of each class she was taking and introduce herself. So, here she was outside Professor Svensson's office. This would be her History of Magic professor. Cadence had always loved history, and always found it fascinating, so she was really looking forward to talking to Professor Svensson.

Before she knocked on the door, she took a quick inventory herself. Her uniform was in perfect condition, hair sleek and shiny, no food in her teeth, makeup was very conservatively done... just enough to bring out the golds and browns in her eyes.

She knocked on the door, but it sounded like Professor Svensson might be with another student. Cadence would wait, it was no big deal. She stood a little away from the door and waited confidently for her turn.

Sighing in something that was like relief, Jake noted the change in classes and smiled to himself. That made his job alot easier for today. Visibly relaxing, Jake looked around the familiar office and shook his head. He couldn't come to see a professor and just ask one question. That wasn't fuuuuun.

"No," the boy replied lightly, looking straight back at Svensson. "Ssssir... Duhh-didn't yyyyou like t-t-transf-f-ffffigurrrrattion?" he asked, in s scarily hopeful voice, the look in his eyes confirming that.

Svensson smiled at the boy's reaction to his answer but was caught off guard by the boy's next question. He frowned and shook his head. "I liked transfiguration," he said slowly. "I liked transfiguration just fine."

He looked up from Jake suddenly. Someone was knocking on his door. Again. "Come in!" he called, hoping that Jake would be content with that answer. It was an honest answer, and there was no need for him to take the time to explain the full reason he switched subjects.

Redirecting his attention to the boy, Svensson said, "Is there anything else you'd like to talk to me about?"

"Hello Professor Svensson!" Cadence began. Looking around the room, she saw that there was another boy in there already who looked very familiar. He was in Hufflepuff. Her eyes grew wide for moment; it was Jake! He probably didn't remember her, though... Trying to be polite, she smiled and said, "I can come back later if you would like?"

Well that just didn't make any sense. In fact, Jake was completely lost now, over everything. If the man liked transfiguration...

"But..." he started, but was interrupted by the door. When the man had switched his attention to whoever was there, Jake frowned at his feet. "I don't get it," he whispered, apparently to his shoes, before glancing behind him at whoever was at the door.

There was that girl... that really familiar girl that Jake KNEW he'd seen around here somewhere. Not just in like EVERY office... but before. It took a while before it FINALLY clicked that the girl was, in fact, Cadence... whatever-her-last-name-was.

...

Which upset Jake some more because that brought up the image of Set. More dead kid nightmares to come. Oh joy. "Hey, C-c-cadence," Jake nodded quietly, shaking his head at her suggestion. He was done here, thanks very MUCH.

"I dddon' get wh-why everything huhh-had to ch-change," Jake muttered, glancing into Svensson's face and looking away, requests about what books to look for on wand history totally gone from his mind. "No thuhh-thank you. I'm ddddone. I'll see y-you later, Puhh-proffffessor Sv-sv-svenssssson."

There was a tiny hint of an emotionless zombie in the way Jake talked, and he turned to the door, waiting to be properly dismissed.

He wouldn't get answers about Truebridge here.

"Hi Jake!" Cadence replied with a smile. "I didn't think you'd remember me!" But something was wrong. Jake didn't look at all happy to see her standing in the professor's office. So, I guess people do remember what happened... she thought to herself. She was completely taken aback and just watched Jake and the professor for a moment, unsure of whether to leave or not.

she tried to remember why she wanted to come here in the first place - now she remembered her mother sent her an owl asking her to say hello to her old teachers from when she went to hogwarts. her mother luna lovegood went to hogwarts 20 years ago yet still remembers everything since her 4th year when she first joined DA

Svensson spared Jake a sympathetic smile. He couldn't remember what year the boy was in, but he seemed nervous. "Bye, Jake," the professor replied. "Could you do me a favor and prop the door open with that chair on your way out?"

Turning from Jake to the girl who had just entered, Svensson nodded politely. "Now is fine. How can I help you?"

And then came yet another series of knocks on the door. "Come in!" Svensson shouted over the girl's head.

"Sir," Jake mumbled, by way of saying that yes, he would. The boy was now thoroughly disheartened now and dragged the chair over to the door and opened the thing up, shoving the chair in so it would prop the door open. "Llllater," he muttered, shoving his hands into his pockets and strolling off, maybe sort of brushing a tear away with a rotation of the shoulder.

Cadence walked over to where Professor Svensson sat and held out her hand in greeting. "My name is Cadence Ballard, Professor, and I just wanted to come by and introduce myself before classes started." she smiled at him graciously and sweetly, hoping to make a good first impression.

evanna walked in to the room. she was quite nervous about talking to a teacher after school hours. Proffesor Svensson i was wondering about today's class when you talked about the book "hogwarts a history" i have already read the book and i was wondering if there is another book that you could recommend me of about hogwarts

Nicoletta stood outside the door. History of magic deffinitely was not her best class... Alright she was decent, but that's about it.

Svensson frowned. "Well, I can undoubtedly recommend other books for you to read," he said, "but you might have a better chance with getting recommendations for books you'll have access to if you ask Mr. Kapoor in the library. If you insist, I could probably come up with a list for you, but I can't guarantee that they'll be in the library."

Yet another knock. Either Lars himself or his new office seemed to attract students. "Come in!" he called, beckoning to the girl since the door was propped open already.

Nicoletta stepped inside. Wait! Have I been here before? she thought. No way, not possible.... Huh, mabey I've seen him somewhere else, like all the teachers are moving around anyway. "Hello, sir. Err, I was wondering if you sort of have some kind of extra homework, practice type stuff I could do...." she stopped. Man, that sounded stupid! "Well, what I meant was.... I kind of stink at History of magic." she grinned sheepishly at the Proffesor.

Nymphy knocked on the professor's door and entered. "Hello Professor. I'm Nymphy Smith. I just wanted to come and introduce myself before classes started. I am really looking forward to your class!" he said, being absolutly plitle and trying to hold back his excitment slightly.

Professor Svensson gave the girl a sympathetic look. "Normally I would gladly give you some extra practice work," he said kindly. "After all, most people would not say they 'stink' at something they are actually good at, but I think maybe you should wait until after my first class. Would you like a piece of hard candy?" he offered on a side-note, before continuing. "Who knows? Maybe you'll understand the concepts better this year than you have in the past. Give it a shot, and if you still have trouble come see me again. Does that sound like a good plan to you?"

The professor smiled at the first year who saw that the door was open and understood the invitation to come in. "Hello, Mister Smith," Professor Svensson replied. "It's very nice to meet you. And if you're looking forward to my class, I can honestly say that I hope it meets your expectations." He gestured at the basket of hard candies on his desk. "Would you like a mint or a lemon drop?"

Nicoletta smiled. Mabey he was right, new term new chance. "Yes sir, I'll make sure I'm there." at his remark about the candy she replied, "No thank you sir, I just bought quite a bit at Honeydukes but thank you for the offer." she held out her hand. "Nicoletta Davis, sir."
