Everything that you remember about Professor Bunbury's office? Forget about it. All the pink has been banished; the walls have turned to a pale blue, possibly in recognition of the professor's former house, possibly because blue just so happens to be one of his favourite colours. The floor is bare and wooden, except for the large square throw rug, its colour a soft green, that sits under the desk near the farthest wall.
Shelves line the walls, laden with little trinkets and framed photographs of foreign scenery and a slightly younger, more awkward-looking version of the professor with various nameless persons. Two chairs are situated in front of the desk, silently waiting for guests to occupy them. The chair behind the desk, though comfortable-looking, is nothing like the throne the previous occupant of this office used.
Several plants sit on the desk, and pages of notes written in an almost illegible scrawl have been scattered across the desktop as well. There is a row of chairs just inside the door, in case the professor somehow were to end up with more visitors than expected. A small sign has been attached to the outward-facing surface of the door, a gentle reminder to please knock before entering; the door, however, can be found open at almost all times.
This office is now occupied by one Jacob Cutter, substitute Herbology Professor. And you'll find yourself welcome to visit at (almost) any time. |

Matheu had been working on his experiment with Professor Svensson for a week now, and he had yet to go the Herbology professor! But he remembered that the professor isn't around. Sadly to say, he decided to ask the substitute; he seemed like a knowledgable man. Matheu packed his things and headed for the office. When he got there, he knocked.

Cutter had been shuffling through a few papers on his desk, looking for the notes he'd made for the upcoming class, when the knock on the door came. A flick of his wand opened it all the way, and he didn't look up from what he was doing.
"If you're looking for Professor..." Name. The one with all the pink had a name, what had it been. Something about Bunnies. Bun... ah. "...Bunbury, she's away. If you're not, then what can I do for you?"
Glancing up, he took in the unfamiliar face. He didn't know this kid. Not that he knew many of them at all.

Matheu looked into the office. The substitute looked at him a little puzzled. "Um, no, sir, you'll do just right," Matheu said. "Can you help me with a project that me and Professor Svenson are conducting?"

"That would depend on the project, but I'm sure if Professor Svennson doesn't mind my helping then I'd be glad to." Cutter gestured at a chair in front of his desk and flopped unceremoniously into his own. "What would you need me to do for this project?"

Matheu took a seat in the chair and pulled out what he had of his thesis. "About last week, I asked Professor Svennson to assist me in creating a stimulated potion of a Metamorphamangus via the use of Metablood, which is from an unknown subject as far as I know. What I'm trying to do is to completely alter the structure of a plant: it's biological makeup and appearance. He asked me what type of plant, mundane or magical, and he suggested I talk to Professor Bunbury; but since she isn't here, you're next in line." Matheu handed the professor his thesis. "Here is my beginning thesis so far."
My Thesis Quote:
Metamagi Blood Hypothesis & Thesis
Metamagi blood is known to derive from the magical beings known as Metamorphamangus (pl. Metamorphamagi). These beings have the ability to change every aspect of their appearance (e.g. nose, eye color, eye shape, hair, face, etc.). However, the blood is not directly derived from these beings. The source is hardly known but the ability is very known and understood: it has the ability to change the appearance of a living organism. The blood is primarily used as a potions ingredient. The ingredient is highly rare, and to an extent, virtually priceless.
Purpose: Generate a potion – with the Metamagi blood as a key ingredient – that completely changes a plant’s makeup (the look, feel, smell, complete alternation). The potion must make the plant have no essence of what it originally was. The potion must include the Metamagi blood, which is high in nitrogen, and a contrasting ingredient, one that will eliminate the nitrogen. The nitrogen will alter the original situation of the potion by expanding the structure of the plant and making it mutating it. The plant will be mundane, one of natural Muggle life. The plant should be a tulip.

...Woooooooooooah.
Good Merlin. Cutter reread the thesis paper a few times, just to make sure he was reading correctly. His gaze switched between the paper and the kid, back and forth several times. He was obviously not even past his fourth year. Second or third, most likely. And yet... wow.
"Well you wouldn't be able to use a mundane plant for this, you do realise that, son?" Cutter held the paper out to the kid, offering it back. "You'd need a sentient plant. Tentacula or devil's snare, something of the like. If you want it to be able to change at will, it has to have a will, after all." Cutter paused, then cleared his throat and sat up a bit more. "Maybe it would be better to hold off on this experiment until next term, yeah? We're coming up on the end of this one and it wouldn't do to start experiments and trials and things of that nature and then not be able to finish them. We'd never allow a student to do such things unsupervised, as well..."
