Nate noticed a girl about a year young than him staring and smiling at him when he anwsered. He also noticed she had her hand rasied but lowered it as he anwsered. Since they were sitting rather close he took out a peice of parchment and wrote :

Iris sat back and listened to all of the other students answer the professor. So this is what it was like learning with other students... she didn't much care for it. If Stupid Helios hadn't gone and gotten himself killed last term she wouldn't be here studying...muggles. Ugh ok, time to get a grip and remember that this had been Krissy's favorite professor and to pay attention to the lesson on Football/soccer.

As if reading Arya's thoughts Allison reached into her satchel and retrieved gum. Giving one to Arya she stuffed one into her mouth. She wondered if she could crawl out of class as well. Better not.

Listening to what the professor and other students said Allison was a bit distracted. How did all of these student's know about soccer? And why did they even care? Quidditch--in her opinion was much more interesting.

She recalled playing the muggle sport once. She had hit the ball so hard her brother's tooth had been knocked off...and she wasn't aiming towards him. Yes. She was horrible at sports.

Soccer? Zach had been playing since he was young. He had some good game, but the history of the game eluded him. His school work wasn't as polished as his foot work.

Already not feeling like he belonged in this school full of wizards and witches, not knowing things from his world, the one that they called muggle with an air of disdain, only made him shrink down further in his seat.

Taking the gum from Allison she smiled a thank you before sticking the gum in her mouth.Making sure not to smack or blow bubbles she continued to look aimlessly around the class. She never cared for the history of sports, even though she played a few. She just hoped they would get to the fun part soon. She was begining to get a bit restless, though the gum helped.

Iris raised her hand to answer the question, slightly confiused at how many different anwers Lawson was getting. "Football, as we know it - 90 minutes, the rules etc... began in the 18th century, in an English School, in Cambridge, I think." Iris looked at Lawson as she answered, fairly certain that she was right.

Gold raised a cheerful hand in the air.

"The original "football" began in medieval Europe, sir," she said, with a nod of her head. Long time, no? "Association Football, which is the standard form of the sport - the game as muggles play it, today - came into official existence in 1848, the result of mid-nineteenth century efforts to standardize variants of the game."

"The FIFA-approved Fustal, on the other hand, dates back only to 1930," she added, as an afterthought.

"The first International Soccer match of modern times took place in 1872 between England and Scotland. The match took place in Glasglow. The earliest form of soccer in which players kicked a ball around a small field can be traced back to 1004 B.C. . This game was playe in Japan. There have been many different cultures that have played a sport similar to modern soccer."

So many people seemed to know the right answer, even though there were varying definitions of what 'soccer' was. Evelyn had thought she would know a lot about Muggle things, more than other people, because she was so close to her Muggle relatives and her dad was always wanting her involved in his world.

But Evelyn was starting to realise that she would have to study for this subject as well. If she put in the effort, she knew that she could do well in this class. Evelyn smiled at Professor Lawson, the only professor she had spoken to outside of class, and hoped that she would know the answer to the next question.

OOH FOOTBALL!

How AWESOME, this!

Candy raised her hand. "Professah! Documented evidence of a football-like game was found in a Chinese military manual! That was between the first and third century. BC!"

OOOHHH!!

"An' there were these laws laid down in 1848. To standardize the game. They were called the Cambridge Rules because they were drawn up at the Cambridge University an' they REALLY influenced the later rules."

"The first interNATIONALLL football match took place after that of course. In 1872 in Glasgowww between England and Scotland."

TOTALLY!

"Of course I can." Celandine agreed with a comforting smile. It wasn't like she was an expert either but she read a lot and she had got an O on her OWL after all.

Besides, house unity was a good thing. She returned her attention to Professor Lawson.

Mina sat back and listened to all the answers being given. She didn't want to risk sounding like a broken record and repeating an answer, so she just listened for now.

Soccer wasn't really a foreign things to her, but it didn't mean she like it. The game was fine but the sight of the ball was a reminder of something. Shaking thoughts away, she turned her attention back to all the answers being given.

Arya was getting bored and more restless as they continued to talk about the history of soccer. She was begining to like the sport less and less the more they discussed it. Aparently she only like it if she was playing it. She repositioned herself so that she was laying on her stomach, crossing her legs in the air. Still a bit restless she started to blow bubbles with her gum.

Natasha looked around, listening to everyone else with a happy smile. Muggle Studies wasn't her best class, she didn't know heaps on the subject, most things in her house being done magically. But she knew some things, and enjoyed the class, anyway. She had some paper in front of her and she wrote down what they were talking about and what had been said. Football was a pretty cool subject.

She knew the main stuff, like what it was called, and kind of how you played it. Mostly. But she didn't know things about the History, she perked up, interestedly listening to all the answers and writing them down.

Hayden sat in the Muggle Studies class. She was completely confused. Okay so you kick it around, I get that. But what is the point? She'd vaguely remembered seeing it on the tellyvishion once at Evelyns home. But still, it was weird.

This really was strange. Not only was Professor Lawson teaching Muggle Studies, no, they were also all sitting on huuuuge grass field. And the weirdest thing was yet to come. They were all wearing MUGGLE SPORTS WEAR!!! This was not good, not good at all.

Nancy pulled at a few blades of grass lazily while listening to the other students' answers. Definition of a Muggle. Whatever. Her attention was once again caught by a sudden movement from Professor Lawson who - as she could now see as she was now actually looking at him - was tossing a strange black and white ball into the air. What the heck was that?!

Ooooooh! The 16 year old was now staring intently at the ball in the professor's hands. Apparently, she was one of the few who had no idea what it was. So it was a...soccer ball. Or football ball. Football ball? Strange. Why two "ball"s?

Tugging at the overly large T-shirt she had chosen to wear for the occasion - she didn't exaclty have a lot to choose from - Nancy listened to the rules of this soccer/football/whatever thingy. Somehow, this sounded interesting. You got to kick something anyways. Which sounded like exactly the thing she needed at the moment.

Flipping through the pages of the textbook she had taken along just in case Nancy's blue eyes fell on a few lines which seemed to be associated with the professor's last question. Quickly she raised her hand and said a little hesitantly, "Uhm...Sir? I think they had something similar to now-a-days football...soccer...whatever...between the 3rd and 1st century BC in the Chinese military manual...Zhan"She struggled to pronounce the strange Chinese term correctly. "G-go-Guo Ce, I think." Erm.

"Okay we all have varying answers but all are essentially correct. Yes we can go back thousands of years and find people that have played some form of football. Two points for each of you who gave an answer." Lawson made his way back to the box he had placed on the ground earlier.

"The first set of football rules were drawn up at Cambridge University in 1848. They were influential in the development of subsequent codes including what was called back then Association Football. After many meetings between different clubs I suppose you could call them, they each came up with their own distinct rules and branched off to create their own brands of football."

Marcus paused as he began to take out more balls from the box, "As stated earlier, the first international football match took place in 1872, between England and Scotland in Glasgow. The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the international football body, was formed in Paris in 1904 and declared that they would adhere to Laws of the Game of the Football Association. Football is one of the most popular sports played in the muggle world today. Billions of people go to stadiums to watch teams play and others watch the game on television."

He paused again to look around at the students to see how many of them had fallen asleep. Well they were getting to the fun part very soon, once he had finished talking first. "Did you know that over 240 million people in over 200 countries regularly play football?" Marcus began to slowly dribble the ball between his feet, "And we're about to add to that number." He stopped the ball with his foot, "What I was doing just then was called 'dribbling.' And no jokes or smart aleck comments either thank you." His eyes flicked over a few Slytherins as he said this.

"You control the ball with your feet by continuously kicking it. You can also pass the ball onto another team member who is in a better position. So what we're going to do today is practice dribbling the ball and passing it off to another player. I will allow a maximum of four people to a group." He beamed at the students as he stood in front of them, "Oh and yes everyone has to participate no exceptions unless you want to find yourself in my office after class." Again Lawson gave the students a huge smile, just waiting for the grumbles from those who thought muggle studies was stupid. "Well hop to it, come up and grab a ball."

Whee!

Cela stood up IMMEDIATELY and beamed at Professor Lawson. She was totally reaaaady to dribble on the ball!

She put her hands on her hips and looked left and right. Who would join her?

More importantly, who would get a ball and bring it over to her so she could dribble on it?

Yay! At least she had gotten two points for her answer. Something positive! And Nancy needed positive things at the moment...she still didn't have a proper plan worked out after all. Guh!

The 16 year old resumed to pull at the grass next to her while halfcarefully listening to the professor's words. She wanted to kiiiiiiiick the ball. And NOW!

Dribble...dribble...that word sounded funny. Well, at least they were going to be allowed to kickplay with the ball now. Finally. Running a hand through her dark-blonde hair to get it out of her face Nancy glanced around the room for somebody to pair up...okay, not so lucky.

Oh, well, she was going to get a ball first and THEN go look for partners. With a few quick strides she was over at the box containing the balls and after picking one of the black-and-white balls up she let her eyes roam the classroomfootball field yet again.

Noooow...who to team up with?

Ginny smiled widely."this sounds so much fun!"she though and she stoood up..She looked for partners and then went after to take the ball..She picked a ball over the box.

"Hi Professor Lawson", said Ginny as she joined Ginny. "Hey", she said. "This sounds great", she said as she looked at the ball.

Barrys mouth dropped. They were going to play football? Barry had played it before in a muggle school when his dad had forced him to go there. Barry sighed and walked up to get a football, maybe he would be alright everyone hadn`t played it yet.
Barry looked over to Cela and saw that she was ready to play. He asked her "So um Cela, want to team up?" It would be nice to do something with Cela, it had been too long.
Barry looked over to the other girl and sort of gave her an expression which meant that he didn`t mind her joining him. The limit was four. Right? And the more the better

Evelyn stood up, but didn't get a ball right away. She was too shy to go up to someone and ask to be partners, so she waited for someone to approach her, or for Professor Lawson to pair her up with someone.

Evelyn tied her wavy chestnut hair into a loose ponytail, hoping someone nice would want to partner up.

"Sure." Celandine agreed, with a smile for Barry. She waved over at Nancy too. If the Slytherin wanted to join them that would be cool beans.

And then?

Cela started to streeeeeeettttch.

Limber up.

Yup.

Natasha was quickly scribbling as much as she could remember of what Professor Lawson said, before she jumped up, excited. Eeeeeee, they were gonna play with the football! She didn't know how to play, but still, she could learn, right?

She looked around and saw a girl that had a ball, and she came over to her. "Hey, wanna team together?" She asked her, grinning. Did they all get there own football? She wasn't sure, but got one anyway.
