Becca smiled, she happened to really like football and raised her hand and said, "Well, sir, it's a soccer or football depending on where you are from."

"They usually call it soccer in Australia too," Evelyn added to those who said it was only an American term. She had lived there for five years, and even though most of that time hadn't been spent in the Muggle world, she'd heard her dad talk about it.

And then, Annie saw the glory. Tah dah!!

She immediately raised her hand, waiting for her turn to answer. Excited, yes...she was. They were going to play soccer, of course! She was craving for those moments...of scoring a goal and screaming and kicking...Enough. "That is a football, or as in some other places call it, a soccer ball, depending on the continent, or even country..." There were many ways, hers was SOCCER.

She let out a looooong stretchy sigh. Finally...unstressing time.

Jimbo almost didn't hear the last question on account of how he was distracted by how comfy soft the grass was. He was sitting near the back, against a wall and was tearing at the grass with his fingers while he listened to the everyone speak. He thought that having a class all about muggles was quite interesting. He didn't have anything against them, but he only now realized he didn't know squat about them, that being why he hadn't and probably wouldn't answer any questions. This class just might be good for him. He'd learn a lot.

A "soccer ball"? What do they do with it?

Jimbo needed to be educated in the muggle department. It seems a lot of people knew what that thing was. Sigh.

Sir, what is soccer?" Brant was confused. he was raised in the wizarding world. He was used to Quidditch, not muggle sports. The he spotted Miranada and then he moved closer to her. Maybe she could help him out.

"Very good, very good. That will one point for each of you." He tossed the ball into the air and caught it again. "Yes you are all correct. It is called a football or in some countries...soccer."

Noticing the young Slytherin roll his eyes once again, Lawson placed the ball onto the ground and sauntered over to him and knelt down in front of him. "Are we boring you mate?" he asked giving the boy a mocking look, "You know if you feel you are above attending this class, no one is making you stay." he gestured towards the door with his hand, "Please feel free to leave at anytime."


Straightening up, Marcus looked over to the Hufflepuff. "An extra point for your correct elaboration."

"Alright raise your hand and tell me what the objective of the game is? Just a general outline will be fine. We'll get to the finer points of the game a little later."

Miranda DID raise her hand. "Sir, the objective is to kick that ball into a net. And then...it's all mumbo jumbo to me. It's like Quidditch, when you try and get the Quaffle through the hoop." She smiled.

Celandine raised one hand to answer and tugged on her t-shirt with her other hand. Of course, despite the fact that they were told to wear comfortable clothes, Cela had still worn a skirt.

What? It was comfortable, and Muggle. Besides, she still had Miles' boxer shorts and she was wearing those underneath.

"You have to score the most goals and... you can't touch the ball with your hands or go in places that you aren't supposed to go." Right?

"To get the ball into the opposing teams goal?" she asked more than stated after raising her hand. Eh, she'd only seen the muggles play for half an hour. She didn't know much about the sport.

Raising his hand Chris began to tell of the basic objective of soccer. "Well really Soccer is very similar to Quidditch. In soccer you can only use you feet to kick the ball down the pitch and into the goals. Only the Keeper or goalie can use his hands to block it and catch it. The person with the most points at the end wins." he said happily.

Cadence raised her hand again. As much as she had hated gym class at muggle school, she had learned a lot of about football.

"Sir, the main objective of the game is to score goals by kicking the ball into the big netted goals. You have to kick it because you're not allowed to use your hands... unless you're the goalie.... which is kind of like the keeper in Quidditch."

"Well Sir, if its some sort of ball then I think its used to move around, Maybe kicked, Im sorry I don't know much of the Muggle sport." he felt kind of embarassed but he couldn't help it, But this game did sound like some fun.

Put her hand up Kay answered. "The objective is for your team to get the ball to the end of the pitch and kick a goal. You can't use your hand or the ball go to the other team. You can only kick the ball. There is 10 persons on the field at one per team." Kay said hoping she was close. She didn't really know much about football.

"The point of the game is to score as more goals than your oponante before the game. But you can't use your hands, only your feet...well you can use a few other body parts to but not your hands. The way you score is by kicking the ball past the keeper and into the net, each goal is worth one point." That was about as basic as she could go without going into detail. Arya got more excited at the thought of playing soccer for class instead of taking notes.

Raising her hand Marie said "Sir, the objective is to be the team to get the most goals by kicking the ball into the net, or also known as the goal at the correct end of the pitch."
Boy was Marie glad Evan had taught her these things. Who knew his little lesson would come in handy here.

Pierre looked up as the Professor walked over to him. He really didn't know what to say. A professor had never confronted him like this before. He was tempted to copy the look on the professor's face, but he decided against it. "Sorry, Sir. I'll stay." Can't promise I won't roll my eyes behind your back though. Even though Pierre was bored with the class, he wasn't going to leave. That would mean that he couldn't get the homework, which meant he wouldn't get the points necessary.

Pierre listened to the next question. It took all of his strength not roll his eyes this time. He decided not to answer the question and to let everyone else participate.

Ziva let her hand drop back down after she answered, then when a new question was formed, her other hand shot up. "Soccer or football, sir, the point of it is to get the ball into the goal of the opposite team the most times before the game is over. Off course, with out getting penalties of such that could take a player out of the game and or loose points for their team." Ziva said. She paused. "It's similar to how we want to make goals in Quidditch, and if we do something like fouling, then we get consequences." Ziva finished.

"Wait this game is played on the ground?, theres no flying involved?" Brant asked Chris. "This is surely going to be interesting." while he nodded towards Miranda.

Nate again knew this. He was excited for getting an extra point. "The objective of soccer is for your team to score more goals than the other team. Each team consists of 11 players who can score a goal by moving a ball into the opponents' net with the use of any part of their body except their arms and hands." he said smiling to himself.

Tobias considered raising his hand and saying that the goal was to win, but opted not to for fear that the professor would take it as pure cheek. He meant it in all sincerity, because he honestly new nothing about this football-soccer game. And the only thing he knew about any game was that the goal was to win.

Oliver raised his hand. "The objective is a little like Quidditch in that you have two teams who compete against each other to score goals. The players have to kick the ball into the square goal area in order to score. Like Quidditch there's a keeper in goal who will try and save the goal - he's the only player on the pitch who is allowed to use his hands.. hence the name, football. The team that scores the most goals by the time 90 minutes are up is the winner."

Blah, now it was getting harder. The most Jake had ever done with a football was have a it of a kick-around. The boy scratched the back of his head and thought hard, ignoring everyone else. That couldn't be the right answer, could it? Why would they all be here if they already knew everything?

Raising his hand warily, Jake still refused to look at Lawson. "To... kkkkick it?"

Well it made sense... foot... ball...

Now that soccer business sounded violent. Which reminded him... there was one thing he reeeeeally didn't get. "Wh-wha's the ddddifference 'tween fffootball an' sssoccer?"

They had to be different? Why else have different names?

"There are two teams, and each team has to try and get that ball into their goal as many times as possible. It starts in the middle, and they kick it to each other. So, it's a similar objective to what Chasers do in Quidditch. They have Keepers too." Evelyn tried to use a comparison to help those in the class who were only familiar with the wizarding world.

Lorcan raised his hand. "Sir, the two teams have to score goals by kicking the ball between into the goal. There are eleven players on each team and they pass the ball by kicking it to each other. They're not allowed to touch the ball with their hands unless it goes outside the pitch, except for the goalkeeper. Goalkeepers can touch it." He glanced at Lexi and grinned. Muggle Studies was one thing he should be good at.

Chris leaned over to Brant. "Yep that's right. They run around instead and kick it into only one goal with a net on the end of it." he said to help out his friend and then leaned back strainght in his chair to listen to Professor Lawson continue with the lesson.
