Upon entering the Muggle Studies classroom you will find that there are no desks and chairs instead there is a huge field of grass for you to sit down on.
Professor Lawson is standing by the door waiting to usher in the students for their first lesson of the term. "Please come in and find yourselves a piece of grass and park your behinds on it." He sincerely hoped that they taken note of the special requirements and worn something comfortable.

Not that she was spying or anything...pfft. "Or what a few other people call it, a...Locker ball? Blocker...Oh, soccer ball." Finally, she got the word after hearing a few other people say it. Tobias felt lost, to say the least. He should have read up on Muggle culture before coming here. There was no way he would be able to answer any of these questions. He sighed, pulling a piece of parchment from his bag, titled, and dated it, and then drew an accurate little sketch of the ball - he was oddly a decent artist due to his detailed garden records at home.
The black and white thing was apparently a "football" or "soccer ball" since that's what everyone else was calling it. He thought it slightly boring and wondered if it came in different colors. | |

In England, there were two types of football: rugby football and association football. The slang term for rugby football was "rugger," and the slang for association football was "assoc." The word "assoc" gradually evolved into "soccer," which was much easier to say.
When association football was introduced to North America, gridiron football (the type played by the NFL and in the Super Bowl) was already well established. To avoid confusion, Americans adopted the British nickname "soccer" for the new sport. " he said quickly. He could have told him the whole history of soccerbut he didn't want to over do it.

Kylie mentally slapped herself. Of course, of course. Be more specific. She thought to herself, she literally gasped when she saw the football. She had loved playing soccer with her brother back home. She raised her hand excitedly,
"Sir, that's a football. Or a soccer ball, as the American's call it. It's used in the game of football, or soccer. She trailed off as she realized they were sitting on a grass field right now. Were they going to play soccer?
She felt all giddy and excited inside. YES!

Perhaps this wasn't the class for her. Allison looked left and right as she saw people who answered excitedly over the football. Soccer ball whatever. Still she rose her hand and answered, "That is a football. Well a football here in Europe and all over the world. Back home that would be a soccer ball. A ball that is kicked around in the sport."
She didn't understand, it was a ball what was so exciting about it?
