OOC: Nicoletta Davis, 2nd year
Nicoletta found the next seat availible and sat down.

Avery sighed as he said he would be lecturing. Avery came to this school to learn, not be lectured. She had enough lecturing at Bauxbatons. Ah well, she guessed she wuld deal with it. Avery looked at the teacher. She nearly snorted at his "sinister" look. People called that scary? That wasn't even close to scary. Avery took out her parchement and a quill and got ready to take notes on the lecture. She didn't plan on flunking her sixth year.

Nikki looked, well stared was more like it, at the new professor. He prefered lecturing more? Something told Nikki that this would not be one of her favorite classes. But she had to give it a chance right? Right.

It was class, Katie was there to learn - no matter what form that came in. She couldn't leave. For one, if her parents found out she'd left class, even if the Professor allowed it, well.. that would be unpleasant. And two, more importantly, as this new Professor dude walked around looking at them Katie might have felt just a tiiinsy bit intimidated. Just a tinsy bit.

So it was a lecture first, which meant she should have gotten out things to take notes with. Pulling her bag halfway onto her lap, Katie quietly proceeded to pull out a quill and parchment before setting her bag down at her feet and arranging the parchment on her desk, ready to begin taking notes.

OOC: Kita Hermione Lewis, 2nd Year, Hufflepuff

Kita entered the class and looked around. She remembered being here the previous year and she remembered the tiny "havoc" that was caused in this very classroom. She loved DADA and was keen to get started. She noticed that all the students seemed to be sitting accordingly so she followed the line. She smiled at Kay as she passed her and sat down at the next empty seat. She couldn't wait to get started.

OOC: Rachel Rider - 7th year Ravenclaw

Rachel looked up at their new teacher with interest. He was... different than the rest; he wasn't really bubbly or funny or large or eccentric in any way. And THAT was rare for a Hogwarts Professor.

Lectures, she could handle; that really wasn't a problem for her. What she DIDN'T like was the fact that they would be doing practical things for only half a lesson - she could study the theory alone; the seventh year MUCH rather preferred to practice the spells in class.

Oh, well. She'd give him a chance, this Professor Duskurk.

Boy was she nervous. This was one of the few classes Allison had really been looking forward to. In her seat she squirmed a bit every time she caught sight of her new professor. She remembered Cela's excitement and that made her uneasy. Why would someone be thrilled to attend class when the professor was so intimidating was beyond her.

Taking out a quill and parchment Allison sat still and looked around only to spot familiar faces. Wanting to say but was not daring enough Allison reserved her smiles for later.

Lorcan frowned at this pronouncement, or perhaps the expression that accompanied it. He cast an anxious glance at Lexi who was sitting a few desks away and thought, for a moment about leaving. The last practical DADA lesson had left him with broken ribs. Instead he reluctantly took his things out of his bag, ready to make notes.

OOC- Rebecca Latrowski 4th Year Ravenclaw

As soon as Becca had walked in all her thoughts read were Creepyness!! "Rebecca Latrowski, sir." and then she sat down next to some random Hufflepuff whose name she did not know. Lecture? Hurray! She thought sarcastically. I barely know this guy and I'm already sure I don't want to know anymore. Taking out a quill and parchment, she wrote her name and waited for the lecture.

"The dark arts," Professor Duskurk began and as he spoke it was written on the blackboard. Once he got started he paced the front of the classroom, caressing the black cloth at the front of the classroom whenever he neared it. "Are in the eye of the beholder. What makes magic or a creature dark? In most people's minds these are things that are harmful to other people and so they must label them dark. However, the dark arts can actually be quite useful and I dare you to find an auror who does not use them!"

He glared at the students, as if in defiance, daring them with his eyes to contradict him.

Ooc: Ian McKensie - Fifth Year Ravenclaw

Professor Duskurk was, quite simply put, interesting, and Ian wasn't sure if his kind of interesting fell on the good or bad category. Not that this mattered, really - McKensie wasn't actually brave enough to just walk out on this man. Because, yes, Professor Duskurk was not only interesting - he was slightly intimidating, bordering the line of firghtening.

He was the no-nonsense type of guy.

Scratching one freckled cheek and holding back his urge to tap the quill against the wooden desk (ADHD was part of him, and it was nearly impossible for Ian to remain still), or a shoe against the floor, Ian stayed quiet and almost still on his seat.

Elisabeta wrote down what the professor said and sighed it was just like her lectures back at Drumstrang but she was here to learn and learn she was going to do

Avery tried not to roll her eyes as he glared, but she ended up rolling them anyway. He wasn't all that scary. Avery already knew Aurors used dark magic. Her mother was an Auror. But her mother was dead now. Avery scribbled down notes. What was with him and that black cloth? It's like it was his pet or something. Avery didn't think this teacher was scary, she just thought he was weird.

Satine felt a shiver go down her spine with the Professor said his opening words 'The Dark Arts'...she felt like a piece of ice had been dropped down her shirt in the back and rolled down her spine from his first three words. She kept her gaze on him afraid that she would miss something important and he seemed to have first hand experience on the dark arts...she instantly wandered if he'd been an Auror in the past...

Jack was writing down everything the professor said so fiercely he was afraid his quill would crack in half. This guy was like...something else. Sure, Jack had found him rather creepy since the moment he saw the guy at the feast but all he needed to do was say a few sentences to convince Jack that he was insane. Completely and utterly nutters.

And WHYYY was he being so meannn?! There was no need for glaring and exclaiming during a lecture, was there? All Jack hoped was that this lesson passed without anyone talking back to the professor. He feared for his classmates safety!

Kita barely looked up as she wrote down the notes to the little bit that the professor had said. She looked up at him when he said something to do with contradicting and she frowned. This teacher's good she thought, very good. She didn't know what an auror was but she knew that it must be something to do with defence and dark arts.

Legend looked up from his parchment and blinked a couple times. So...this guy was saying that...The Dark Arts was good? Alrightie there, he was obviously brain washing them. Aurors didn't use Dark Magic! Thats why they where the good guys. Nonetheless Legend scribbled a note on what he had said. He would write it. He wouldn't believe it though.

Looking up after writing he noticed that Duskurk was glaring at them. Like really GLARING. Having nothing better to do Legend glared right back.

Alexandra listened as the man spoke about Dark Arts as though they were very intimate with one another. Dude was creepy and he was rather suspicious indeed.

She was not one to make a Professor angry... especially an obviously crazy one so she simply jotted down some notes and followed the dude with her eyes. What a nutter.

The dark arts. Okay.

Jake lowerewd his quill to his parchment and s-l-o-o-o-o-w-l-y began the write out the letter 'T', which was easy enough... but then the 'h' was harder, and the boy frowned in concentraion. Before he'd even attempted the ridiculousness that was the letter 'e', Jake heard the man finish the first mini-part of the lecture.

Yeah, no.

Nudging Reese in the ribs, Jake looked at her notes meaningfully, telling her with his gaze that he'd be borrowing them... bwaha. So she'd better make copieeeees.

Anyway, focusing back on the professor-man, Jake shrank back a little, determined to listen hard. What the man said was... actually very true. Very true indeed.

So... aurors were evil.

Yes.

Okay, Torin was majorly creeped out right now. He did not like this Professor at all. Talking about Dark Arts being useful? They were evil. And he had a bad feeling about this teacher and the way that he talked about them. And whatever was under that black cloth wasn't good, he figured.

He gulped and slightly moved his desk away from the Professor.

Allison's head bobbed, yes dark arts useful. Yes. Of course, if Professor Duskurk said, it must be true.

Trembling she dipped her quill in ink and was ready to write down anything he might add. She had really wanted to bug Ian who had just arrived, but no. No time for that.

Finally! Someone who understood! Even if he was creepy and made her shudder every time his intimidating gaze landed on her...Smiling slightly, feeling that this was going to be a good class, she stared at the black cloth on the table while listening to the Professor, who she still didn't know the name of. Of course, Evelyn didn't write anything down as of yet since she pretty much knew what the Professor was saying, and she was too interested in something else anyway.

Her attention was more on the table then the Professor. There was definitely something under it, and she wanted to know. What...was....it? Or them...

Ooc: Jasmina Bennett; Second year Ravenclaw

Mina jotted down every word the professor said. Just hearing him say the words 'The Dark Arts' caused chills to run down her spine. This was lesson was going to be far different than any other Defence she'd ever had. That fact alone chilled her to the core.

GULP!

Nancy had stopped moving her quill across the piece of parchment mid-sentence. What was he talking about?! That the Dark Arts were good? She guessed they could be useful when used wisely but good? Totally not. That's why they were called Dark Arts. A quick glance at the faces of her fellow classmates told the 16 year old that she was not the only one who felt that way.

This definitely was going to be one interesting lesson. And not a good interesting. A bad, veeery creepy interesting. Hopefully nobody would openly object to what the professor was saying. The way he was currently glaring at them suggested that this would certainly not have a happy ending...
