There was absolutely no way Professor Duskurk would open his classroom without being present. He had carefully arranged the desks into a horseshoe around the very edge of the classroom so that everyone had a clear view of the blackboard at the front of the classroom and the center floor. In front of the blackboard was a small table covered with a black cloth. There were clear outlines of something other than the table under the cloth, but that was all. Professor Duskurk stood beside the door with a clipboard. "Please state your name and then take the first desk available, working clockwise around the room," he said in a no nonsense voice as each student entered the room. ooc: please act as if your character has been here the whole time if you don't get online before we begin and just add an ooc note for me with your character name. Thomas Duskurk was like... the nicest dark lord she'd ever met. Well, then. Daphne, rather disappointed in herself, slipped her wand back into her robe pocket. She probably needed something much more fashionable to put her wand in. Thinking about that, Celandine arrived. MAYBE she needed a holster too. Hmmm.
"Hard for you?" repeated the blond in disbelief. "You're the brightest and most talented girl I know. I guess I shouldn't feel too disappointed in myself if even you didn't get it right." Although, the was something really inky about the way Cela was talking.
But she was gone before Daphne could ask her if something was wrong. Rubbing one cheek, Daphne picked up a quill and scribbled the homework down. She folded the piece of parchment neatly, slipped it into her DADA textbook and right into the schoolbag before heading out of the classroom.

Kellen heard the announcement that class was over and watched his spider be banished back to the front and under the cover. It had clung most stubbornly to its web, probably frustrated that someone was actually taking it away from its task. He took out a piece of parchment and copied down the homework. If all they were going to do this year was attempt to cast forbidden spells on bugs and fail, he was going to have to put effort into his written work. | |

After a suitable period of time Professor Duskurk called the class to order. "Wands away!" he declared as he walked up to the front of the classroom and banished the spiders back to the front. He conjured the black cloth back and placed it over the boxes once more. "I will now assign homework. It is due one week from from now (ooc: one week from the time stamp of this post, whatever your time zone).
"I would you like you to write up a short essay for each of the following two questions:
1) How could even the most simple spell be considered dark? Include a specific example how one might use a benign spell in a dark way in your answer.
2) Under what circumstances could you survive a well aimed killing curse?
"You are dismissed." Sidney is relieved when Professor Duskurk removes the spider from her desk. She's not sure she could have tried to do the spell again. Sidney's not sure it that means she would make a lousy dark wizard or if it means her magic just isn't powerful enough. She writes down the homework assignment, packs her bag and walks to the front of the class. "Thank you for the lesson, Professsor Duskurk. It was most interesting." Sidney looks at the black clothe that is now over the spiders. "Sir, will we be practicing the other curses in our next class?" Sidney hopes they won't. She doesn't like inflicting pain on other creature even if she's not very good at it. | |

Carter had spent nearly the whole lesson just looking at the spider with his wand in hand. He wasn't sure whether or not to consider that a failure. He was glad when class was finally called to a close. He copied the homework and gathered his things. He said a quick, "Thanks for the lesson, Professor." before heading out the door.

Emily looked slightly disgusted as her spider twitched and jerked. 'That is so gross' she thought to herself and lifted her wand. Just then, the proffessor anounced that class was over, and Emily levitated her spider into the disposal bin before copying the homework into her book and packing away her things. Thanking the professor for an interesting lesson, she left the room.

"Thank you," she said one the professor had answered her question. That certainly did help her; she would have to remember that tip for next time. Then he said class was over already? Well at least she wouldn't have to torture the animal anymore, but it still creped her out. She then wrote down the homework on her special piece of parchment for her homework and left the room for her next class.

Lenalee was cautious from moment one of entering the DADA classroom. When the professor did not mention defense and instead focused on the Dark Arts portion of the equation, she knew something was wrong with this man. Maybe not wrong per say but definitely not the normal amount of "evil" one would expect of someone in this position. She had thought he was simply uncaring. She had known plenty of people like that. But now it was clear he did care, but not for the students safety.
She stuck it out through the entire lecture and tried to do the spell as requested. Her heart wasn't in it though and she spent the majority of the time listening to how he interacted with the other students, memorizing what he said exactly. And how he said it. She almost laughed herself at the evil chuckle comment. 'So he has a sense of humour? That's promising.' She didn't so much as get her spider to complain about an itchy leg.
She silently took down the homework instructions and slipped out of the classroom door. 'Time to get to the next class.'

Adrienne was relieved when Professor Duskurk dismissed class and assigned homework. She really didn't even mind that he'd banished the spiders back under their cloth at the front of the classroom. She'd been getting unnerved at how the creature had kept looking at her, even though she still couldn't work up a desire to try the curse again. So it disappearing didn't disappoint her one bit.
Stowing her wand away again, she pulled her notes out again to write the homework assignment down, before she looked up in surprise at hearing Cela's comment. There was no way she'd honestly believe that, but she wasn't about to question the prefect either. Besides, she hadn't exactly been successful either, and that really didn't bother her. Gathering her things after she'd finished writing the assignment down, she stood up and sent the professor a tentative smile. "See you next class, Professor Duskurk," she said, before leaving the classroom. She just hoped they weren't going to torture spiders again next class, or her liking for DADA was going to fade pretty quickly.

Becca quickly slid her wand into her pocket and then put her books back on the table as she began to copy the homework. She thought they'd be doing all of the Unforgivables. Oh well, she really didn't want to either, so it worked out just to her liking. Finishing her homework copying, Becca said, "Thanks Professor Duskurk, quite an interesting lesson today." and then walked out the door.

She didn't say anything back, but atleast now she wasn't looking like was going to spill some tears. Because...Miranda didn't cry. No sir. She smiled crookedly at the boy and nodded at his soothing words.
But she didn't look away as Oliver tried again. Her eyes took turns in watching him and the spider. And when he cast the spell again, she kind of did feel like she was going to be sick. But the face of the boy made her react more and she got closer and took his hand . "That doesn't mean you're a bad person..." She said gently. He could be obnoxious and highly annoying, but that didn't mean he was evil.
But now the spiders were being summoned back and she let go of his hand to write down the homework and get her things packed into her bag. She really wanted to get out of here. "Oliver?" she asked calmly, not really knowing how the boy must be feeling. He didn't seem happy, that's for sure. She took his hand again, maybe he needed to be led out, but he was probably fine now.
She turned to the Professor on her way out. "Thankyou, Professor... The lesson was very...educational."

What had he just said to Miranda? The Slytherin had a lot of repressed resentment inside him, yeah, but hatred? He didn't think so.. But what just happened kinda proved that he did.
He felt his hand being taken and looked at Miranda. She saw? He hoped no one else in the class had because.. well, it seemed so wrong to have succeeded – even if the success was only a twinge, the thing had still reacted to his spell. What, exactly, did that say about Oliver?
He gulped and nodded slightly to Miranda's words and gave her hand a small squueze as if to say, “I know. I'm ok.”
And he was, right? Silly to get worked up over such a small reaction to the spell. It could have been coincidence for all Oliver knew. The spider might have had cramp in it's leg there.
Still, that thought was no reassurance. He scribbled down the homework with a shaky hand, then just sat, lost in thought and not hearing the professor dismiss them. He heard Miranda again and allowed her to take his hand and lead him out of the classroom.

He knocked on the door 2 times and entered there were several students sitting in their desks. He looked at the proffessor and said "Hello sir, my name is Amadeus Knight", he walked towards a empty desk and sat down.

Kita was blinking back the tears but no such emotion showed on her face. "Crucio!" she cried for one last time. She looked up at the professor and noted down the homework. Her hands were shaking and she could barely write anything down. She put her wand away and adjusted her bag. She looked down at the spider that she was torturing. Even though she didn't do anything to the spider, she still leaned down and said, "Sorry." Other people might think she was weird but she didn't. By this time, Kita was crying and everyone else had gone. She knew what it was like to be tortured. Or hurt. She ran out of the classroom still crying...

Neptune Bott nodded solemnly at the Professor. Giggles = not evil. Hmm. Who knew? Her siblings had surely called her evil oh... several million times... and she was an incessant giggler. And more times than not, the giggles were at THEIR expense.
She had to stifle a giggle at the very thought, and distracted herself with copying down the homework.
Before leaving, she skipped up to the professor, EVIL!CHUCKLED using his example, and then grinned. No doubt he was impressed with what SHE had learned in class today. After a small curtsy, Neptune Bott EVIL!chuckled all the way out of the classroom. OH JUST YOU WAIT til we meet again, SPIDER!
