JC thinks about the question, "Maybe, this is because it is so close to Hogwarts that Muggles normally don't go that near, because Hogwarts has an enchantment that makes Muggles think it looks haunted so if they ever come near, they won't want to come again."

Miranda raised her hand. "Sir, is it because the area has been enchanted with Muggle repellent spells and such? Or maybe because it's not a place where people venture often to, and therefor is pretty secluded. It might not be a place where people think of settling down and build a home. Maybe." Pffft. Who knew. Well the Professor probably.

Jack wasn't sure why this was. Still, he could take a guess at it, right? He raised his hand. "Is it because Hogwarts and Hogsmeade are kind of out in the middle of nowhere? Even if a Muggle did find out about us, I doubt the idea of living out here with no TV's and all those other muggle things is very appealing to them!"

Lina thought about it a moment. "Well, Hogsmeade and Hogwarts were founded about the same time, weren't they? And considering there are numberous passages between the two (none that I have seen) I would certainly believe that. But then the first building I would think would be the Hogsmeade station. If that doesn't count, then I think the Three Broomsticks, because it's closest to the station and would be perfect for the first set of students to visit."

Svensson nodded, mulling the students' ideas over. "All very good ideas," he said. "It's highly possible that most of your ideas are at least contributing factors." He wandered back to the board and tapped his wand on the map at the approximate location of Hogsmeade. A little flag appeared, not quite at the exact placement of the village, but fairly close.

"Very well, then, class," he continued. "Hogsmeade is the only community of only wizards, but we wizards do sometimes live in clusters, don't we?" he asked. "Wizards only rarely live in complete isolation, but often we live peacefully in groups, among Muggles." Svensson stepped away from the map and gestured at it with his free hand. "Can anyone name any towns or cities in Europe that are inhabited by Muggles and wizards alike?"

Eh? Oh, yes, now she understood, hehe. Gosh she was slow today. The Professors other question made her pull a face. Errr. Other cities? Tough one. But it did remind her of when she went to Sweden last summer. She raised her hand to answer. "Sir, I'm not sure, but maybe in the north of Sweden there could be muggles and wizards living together. They have a Dragon reservation up there along with the yearly broom race, AND the Sami people - the indiginous people from that country - do live up there aswell." She made a face to say, 'maybe?'

"Don't we all live pretty much...live together?" she said, wincing slightly on how that came out. "Nevermind. Bulgaria, in general, is someplace witches and muggles live." Unlike her and her home, which was in the middle of nowhere...and she was too lazy to think up a specific town or city."Which also has a ministry of magic of there own and an awesome quidditch team if I do say so myself." Though definitely not her favorite.

"Well, back in the time muggles were persecutng witches our kind needed a place where we could get away from them and muggles inhabited all the other places so our kind had to travel to a place in te middle of no where that was hard to get to. The reason Hogsmeade is the only place solely inhabited by wizards is not only that we use magic to get to a certain train to get us there but not too many muggles would even try to make a dangerous trek all the way out here in the middle of no where with no reception or electricity. Hogsmeade is so far away from what muggles would call civilization that wtches and wizards are safe here and if we tried to inhabit other areas they too would have to be off the beaten track in the middle of no where and there are not much of any places like that with muggles developing just about every square inch of land elsewhere so I think thats why we only have only one place like Hogsmeade", Herminny said after raising her hand.

Lina raised her hand as she considered. "I believe that Godric's Hollow is one of the more famous places. And then there's Tinworth, and Ottery St. Catchpole... London too, isn't it? I've heard a lot of wizards and witches from London."

Svensson frowned slightly. He must have worded his question oddly. "What I meant was, where are some places where there is both a significant magical community and a significant Muggle community," he explained. "As opposed to places where there might be mostly Muggles and maybe one wizarding family."

Svensson tapped his wand on northern Sweden, Bulgaria, England's West Country, and in the general vicinity of Tinworth and Ottery St. Catchpole. And, of course, London. Little flags, slightly different from the one marking Hogsmeade, soon marked the areas. "Does anyone know of any other communities? They can be lesser-known places that you know about if, say, you know someone who lives there or you've visited the place," he said.

Mina thought for a second. She did have family in France, so logically there would be places there where both muggles and wizards lived. Slowly she raised her hand. "Would Paris be one? My grand-mère lives in Versailles and I used to spend my summers there."

Svensson scratched his chin. "It could be," he said. "Especially if your grandmother has other wizards as neighbors, in addition to Muggle neighbors."

Since no one else was voicing their suggestions, Svensson decided they must have exhausted the subject. "Let's talk about the International Statue of Secrecy briefly. How may it affect these communities? Not so much Hogsmeade, but other communities where there is a noticeable wizarding population living among Muggles."

Ivory squinted one eye in concentration, staring up at the ceiling as if it had all the answers. Raising her hand hesitantly she brought it down again and then up again. As if indecisive on whether to answer.

"Well umm...I guess not only would these people have to have enough knowledge of the muggle community to blend in but I'm sure that among so many muggles they'd ..well...have to sacrifice a few wizarding perks, I guess for lack of a better word..."

Bringing her hand back towards her, she stared wide eyed wondering if she was right.

Lina raised her hand as knowledge came to her mind, though she wasn't sure from where. "The International Confederation of Wizards' Statute of Secrecy, also known as the International Statute of Secrecy, was enacted in 1689 as a method of protecting the wizarding ways of life without persecution. This keeps wizards from revealing themselves or using magic in front of muggles and thus betraying our existance. This is not an uncommon tactic, as there have been other communities that have done the same. The Traditions are a set created for a fictional game in the muggle world, as well as the Black Veil used by a series of muggles, and perhaps some wizards, who believe themselves to be vampires."

"Well they would just not have to do anything that would give themselves away wouldn't they?" Which was...a lot. "In other words, the wizards and witches living in communities that hold muggles as well would...well, have to act and possibly live like a muggle outside of their home. Inside their houses though, I guess they can do some magic here and there, although it probably wouldn't be a very good idea. Especially if your window is hanging wide open." Now that would definitely be bad.

'Wonder what the punishment would be if one got caught.' she thought, trying to think of anything she may have read that had told her this, or at least give her a clue. It probably wouldn't be good though.

Svensson nodded. "Good," was all he said about their responses, though he made a mental note about whose had been particularly insightful. He gestured to the flags on the map. "We'll have a small discussion in a bit, but first let's talk about some of these communities," he said. "Godric's Hollow, for example. What's so special about Godric's Hollow?"

Lina raised her hand. "Wasn't it the birthplace of Harry Potter, and where he was orphaned?" Oh yeah... "And something about Godric Gryffindor..." Smooth, Lina. Way to sound like a stereotypical Slytherin. But her most vibrant memories were of that time... quite some time go.

Destiny heard of that place before..she just couldn't remember why..

Jack raised his hand. "It's one of the few places where wizards live away from muggles, but it is also home to many famous witches and wizards. The house that Harry and his parents were attacked in is still there today," he added.

"OH! And the graveyard is supposed to be haunted," he added, raising his hand once more.

Michelle knew lots of things about Godric's Hollow, so she decided to say something different than what everyone else said. She raised her hand and said,"Ignotus Peverell is buried there, and he passed the Cloak of Invisibility down through his descendants in the village."

Godric Hollow is also where Albus Dumbledore and his family and Bathida Bagshot, author of A History of Magic lived. I believe it was while Albus Dumbledore was living in Godric Hollow that he met Gellet Grindelwald. They fomulated their plans to conquer the wizarding world while Grindelwald was visiting his Aunt Bathida. Following the death of Albus's sister, Ariana, Grindelwald fleed for continental Europe. He would carry out his plans for wizard domination over muggles without Albus Dumbledore's help.

Gold raised a hand. "Godric's Hollow is the place where Voldemort was vanquished for the first time, sir," she said, politely. "October the 31st, 1981. He murdered James and Lily Potter, but we all know the curse he shot at their son, rebounded."

"... and I've read that there's a war memorial at the centre of the village square, professor. It transforms into a monument to the Potters, when a witch or wizard approaches it. Unaccompanied by a muggle, of course."

She lowered her hand.

OOOH! That was such a FUN question!

Candy TOTALLY raised her hand.

"Professah!" The first year said happily. "Bowman Wright, inventor of the Golden Snitch, was a resident of Godric's Hollow once."

She was juuuust about to raise her hand when...pretty much everyone else spoke up first. Sighing, she lowered her hand and started to tap her fingers on the desk in a random beat that has been stuck in her mind all morning.

Although, there was something that hadn't been mentioned yet. "Professor, the golden snitch inventor Bow...man... nevermind." And that one was taken too! Who was that anyway? First year perhaps? She didn't see the girl last year...so must be.

Aw well, answering this question just wasn't meant to be she guessed. And back to tapping the desk!

Gordic Hollow, she had read about this place. Well it was well know to all in the magical community, "Its were Harry Potter was born and brought up for a year of his life" She said raising her hand, "It was also where Voldemort killed Harry's parents, and leaving him with a scar after he tryed to kill him. It was Voldemort's down fall" She explained.

She smiled, "Albus Dumbledore and his family also lived there before Harry's time"
