| | HoM 1: Goblins For the first History of Magic lesson of the term and his first postponed lesson ever, Professor Svensson was quite nervous. He had his notes laid out on his desk and he had several maps ready to put on the board, if he should need them. He did not think he would, but it was better to be safe thann sorry. As the set time for the beginning of the class neared, Svensson opened the door to his classroom and began pacing the front of the room. He should never have quit his job as a repairman at Gringott's. His coworkers there never expected much of him, and the goblins who worked there would never have wanted him to teach him anything.
As he continued pacing, Professor Svensson glanced out of the corner of his eye to be sure that none of the desks were touching in their new circular arrangement. Hopefully nobody would think that sitting in a circle was too out of the ordinary. Then again, this was Hogwarts. And here, the extraordinary is ordinary! |

Hogwarts RPG Name: Auden Azarolla Ravenclaw First Year | <.< >,> v.v ^,^! For the beginning of the lesson, Ivory had simply but sitting in chair blushing and trying to speak up without stuttering or stammering. However, after hearing Cela's great detailed answer that she in fact agreed with she felt that maybe she did have a bit to add to the discussion.
Raising her had, her tiny voice was on the verge of squeaking with nervousness.
"Well, I agree with Celandine," she began. "The Goblins might have used the concept of the bank as a power move, thinking that by securing the wealth they would gain status and maybe eventually be considered more than subservient. However I believe that maybe the reason wizards were compliant with the idea of having them secure it was because at that time they did not trust themselves . A person could easily be swayed for economic reasons but Goblins have their reputation to keep and much more to lose if they were to commit a crime such as laundering money or whatnot." |

Arya took notes as the Professor went into descussion with the class. How anyone could be interested in the subject of history was beyond her. Who cared about goblins or how Grinngots came to be? All that mattered was that her money stayed safe. She still chewed her gum and swung her feet as she took notes, ocassionally playing with her hair out of sheer bordem.

Writing down notes as fast as she could, Wesley's eyes were attentive and ears perked. If she had known all of this information was covered in her history textbook she would have read it before class- before school had even STARTED.
Because Wesley was going to work in Gringotts. She was going to sit behind one of those counters and talk to people and use shiny quills and hop across the giant lily pads and brave the dragon and deliver papers and Galleons with care and precision.
It was going to be the BEST.
Momentarily distracted by her dreams of glory, the Hufflepuff struggled to follow the tangent once more, but soon caught on and continued writing at break-neck speed.

Marie sat there taking notes on what everyone was saying about Gringott. She had never really given much thought to the goblin, she just knew that her families money was well protected in his bank. Now she wished she knew a little more about the founder of the bank before class started, then she would have been able to answer some of the questions too. Oh well, she was there to learn and what better way to learn than by listening and note taking.

As far as history goes, the bank changed history because it gave wizards a safe place to keep their money and belongings. It's considered to be one of the safest places in the world, which has definitely helped some rich wizarding families stay...well, rich I suppose...because they don't have to worry about their money being stolen." "So that's two goblins that are on chocolate frog cards. Perhaps the makers of chocolate frogs don't discriminate against goblins as much as goblins think wizards do," Svensson said. "And yes, Gringotts is one of the safest places in the world--then again, people say that about Hogwarts, too, and Hogwarts used to have a basilisk in its basement." Quote:

I expect he probably bought the loyalty of several significant Pureblood families of the time, maybe with rare, goblin made goods, encouraging them to use the bank in the way Gringott intended. Maybe he also approached those who had something to hide, wizards who wished to hide and protect their dark artifacts." Cela mused with her hand raised.
"As for how this all ties into the Rebellion, I wonder if Gringott was a part of the Brotherhood of Goblins, those who were trying to negotiate without violence. Goblins like him, who were respected and trustworthy, would have gone a long way toward finding supporters among witches and wizards." "I very much agree that Gringott probably was part of the Brotherhood of Goblins. Who knows? Maybe he helped found it. Or maybe in his time it wasn't necessary." Quote:

Even though there have been some cases before. Professor, I can't help wondering.. are there other wizarding banks besides Gringotts?" She felt a bit stupid asking, if it was an obvious question. But she didn't know the answer, so why not ask..? "There are other wizarding banks besides Gringotts... but Gringotts is by far the most successful, the most powerful, and the most important. Other banks generally operate only locally," Svensson said. Quote:

That actually made sense. After he thought about it for a moment, of course. Svensson could not help but agree. All these students brought up such interesting ideas and reasons things had happened as they happened. "You say that wizards trusted goblins because goblins needed their reputation to be pure--could it be that a greater prejudice occurred after the bank's founding because a goblin betrayed his race's reputation and stole some money?" Question that didn't have a straight answer, though he would have welcomed an attempt at an explanation.
"From what we know about goblins' sense of ownership, how do you think the goblin community reacted when the Ministry took control of the bank after Gringott's death? How do you think Gringott would have felt if he had known this would happen?" |

Nicoletta slowly raised her hand. "Didn't they try to keep a safe place for wizards' gold and treasures?" she paused. What else? "And they knew the better security they kept, the more wizards would trust them. So the vaults of the older, more distinguished familys have better security and are guarded very closely." |

Nina cautiously raised her hand.
"Well, Professor, the money inside the bank obviously wasn't the goblins'. So they couldn't have been too surprised that wizards wanted to further their security on their own valuables? As long as the actual building lay in the hands of the goblins, they should be okay with it right? And it is, the goblins run the bank. It's just the idea of ownership that was taken away from them, not the physical aspect. Which is what they really care about... right?"

Marie still wasn't really sure about goblins and all that they do, however from listening to the other students in the class she could tell they were very possessive creatures. Raising her hand she said "I believe the Ministry taking over Gringotts angered the goblins greatly. For years they had run the bank, to have someone else come in and tell them what to do must have been a great shock to them." Putting her hand down she thought about what she said, she knew it wasn't the most detailed answer but it was one that made sense to her.

Now a even more uncertain about her answer after hearing excellent answers from her classmates Nina raised her hand again.
"But then again," she began "a goblin, being a goblin, and protective of what they 'believe' is theirs whether it truly belongs to them or not, they could very well be upset. Which makes me think, maybe it's not the goblins that are the problem, maybe its just the different and unclear definitions everyone has of ownership that cause such a tension between goblins and wizards. If someone set a definitive definition, there would be less fighting between the 'species?'."

Such deep thinking on the part of the students, it was just what he had been hoping for. "I'd wager that definitive definitions for a lot of things would lessen the strife between goblins and humans." Standing up, Svensson beckoned Dylan back to the circle. "You can sit back down. Thank you for making that list for us."
He walked into the center of the circle and slowly rotated in place. "I want you to split into two groups--down the center, maybe. Everyone on the left side of the room will be a wizard. Everyone on the right, a goblin," he gestured with his hands so that they would know which side was right and which was left. "Imagine you're at a conference between goblin leaders and human leaders. You're trying to come to terms of peace. If you're a goblin, maybe you're a member of the Brotherhood of Goblins. Then again, maybe not. If you're a wizard, maybe you're part of the Ministry of Magic. Or maybe you're a wizard from abroad. You decide."
After clearing his throat, Svensson continued. "On a piece of parchment, write down what you think is the biggest problem that needs to be resolved at this meeting. Use what you know about the goblin rebellions as a basis. Then, someone can start the debate--well, more of a discussion than a debate. Keep it civil. And no Gobbledegook, no offense to my goblins. Not everyone knows Gobbledegook.
"Are there any questions?" Svensson wasn't quite certain that he made himself clear enough, so he wanted to be sure that everyone understood what to do before he left the circle and gave the floor over to the discussion. |

Nympy raised his hand. "They would fight, hard. They never take things standing down. I imagine that they would have felt like they were robbed." he said. He thought more about his uncles goblin stories. "They are really sneaky like. They would have riggled out of it or something. Using trickery or deceit." he said, smiling

Wizards take everything the goblins make. It was made for goblins and it should stay with goblins.
That wasn't how she really felt of course, but she was supposed to be a goblin. That was how a goblin would think of it.

We want to establish that in the wizarding world, we need to accept the wizard approach to ownership. We also want to keep more control over the goblin radical groups.
After he wrote his paper, he waited for the professor's responce.

On Professor Svensson's note, Nina took a bit more time thinking it through.
Then she added: Quote:
Only when we understand each other, will both sides be content. Then we can avoid pointless rebellions and focus on working together on other important issues.
There. That should do it.

Goblins feel that Wizard take everything they have and never think about giving things back. They do not return goblin made things.
Thinking this would be something the goblins would feel important. Goblins never sold anything they made. They rented their things and alway want it back when the wizard or witch died.

Oh...thank Merlin. She was on the wizard side. Phew! Who wanted to be a ugly goblin anyways? Thinking it over though, she had no clue what to write down on the paper. The only thing that came to mind probably didn't even really relate to the discussion. But eh...at least she could write something down for now and then cross it out later. Quote:
Everyone, including goblins, should just learn their place in their society. Which means, us (wizards/witch) having more control. *insert really evil face* Okay, so maaaybee she wasn't really thinking for everyone, just for herself really. But that's pretty much what she thought.

| Atypical Ravenclaw Bookworm // Hair Flipper Pro / / the edgy starbuckian // Hot Messie Mina looked around and let out a sigh of relief. She was on the wizard side. Goblins did scary her a bit. She understood some of their reasoning but it didn't mean she wanted to be one.
Looking down at her parchment, she thought of a possible problem to write down. Tapping her quill softly, she smiled before leaning over to write. Quote: Wizards
There is a serious lack of understand on the part of all parties. From what it appears, certain exchanges have not been met on level grounds and thus both parties believe any agreement is biased to the other. There is a need for cooperation and not conflict. Certain protocol and procedures should be followed before action is to be taken. Civility before violence.
Glancing down at her parchment, she wondered if her point made sense. She understood the wizard side. Self-preservation. They wanted to protect what they thought was rightfully theirs, but didn't the Goblins want and think the same thing? Lack of understand, that was the problem. |

Lucy heard professor telling out the rules and as she looked around, she knew she was in the right side of the room " Sad, i'll have to be those short and ugly Goblins now" she said, however she thought for a question for what the goblins may think Quote: Goblin:
"Ok so we goblins take care of everything that you need and don't except anything in return but don't you think we should get some credit for our work and be praised for that instead of being treated as ugly and rude?"
Lucy had lost her mind while writing that question, but still she thought maybe they think like that.
